Evan Zaremba in this movie right? I mean there were like two scenes in this film where Bruce has flashbacks about his parents getting shot and the shooter in the smoke looked like Napier just like in the 1989 film. They just decided not to mention Joker’s name in this film
Like the Catwoman reference. You see, Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns, and Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever and Batman & Robin are all part of the same continuity. Michael Keaton, Chris O'Donnell, Pat Hingle, and Michael Gough appeared in these films. Michael Keaton did the first two, and Chris O'Donnell did the second, but last two, and that makes the difference.
Why didn't Keaton do the third film? I heard they even got as far as costume-fitting w. the new Batman suit etc. and then he was out. I really liked the flashback in Batman Forever. They didn't re-use the Burton footage, but shot a new scene where you didn't see Jack Napier's face, just his outline and gun, but it was good. A nod to that the Joker still haunted Bruce.
SilverTounge85 Michael Newton wasn't a fan of the direction the film was heading in. He was hoping to do another gothic take rather than the neon lights and flashy sets.
They kept some of the Gothic architecture of Gotham w. Arkham Asylum and a lot of the buildings, but they added a lot of neon lights etc. So they kept some of Burton's ideas in both 'Batman Forever' and 'Batman And Robin'. They could at least have had Gotham Cathedral where Joker's last stand was, as a cameo on the background etc.
SilverTounge85 That is true. I think that cathedral cameo would have been great! But yeah Keaton didn't like that it was going in lighter more family friendly tone.
After a meeting with Joel Schumacher, Michael Keaton left due to creative differences. Johnny Depp, who had worked with Tim Burton on Edward Scissorhands and Ed Wood, And Billy Baldwin, who had worked with Joel Schumacher on Flatliners, was on the list to replace Keaton, but they turn it down, and Val Kilmer was cast. He, like Keaton play the character straight, and on the set of Batman Forever, Kilmer called Burton a weirdo, and Schumacher a silly old man, after he told the first asisstent director to go fuck himself, and after Batman Forever came out on June 16th, 1995, and in 1996, Schumacher fired Kilmer.
