Aren't you in "heaven" for some delish meals with super cheap prices?? 😁😍 Shared with you earlier that I just got back from visiting my family in Indonesia... I just kept eating, and eating, and eating, and eating!! 😆 Few words below may be helpful when you order:
    1. Pesan (order)
    2. Air (water - think of "air" as we breath in English)
    3. Pak (you omit the K when say it)
    4. Permisi (When you're walking in front of crowds trying to pass / go through)
    5. Dari Mana (Where (You) From)

    Another vegetarian meal/dish you might came across later on your journey, and want to try out: Karedok, Gado-gado, Urap, Toge goreng, Cah kangkung, Nasi Pecel, Rujak, Lontong Sayur, Sayur Asem, Sayur Lodeh, Lalapan, and honestly there's plenty more vegetarian options out there i just can't name all of them, but i think that's about all of the 'must try'. By the way the locals enjoy ketoprak for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

      @@BagsPackedFamily yes there's so many vegetarian option in Indonesia but I think you need be careful because even though the main ingredient are vegetables, Indonesian loves to add TERASI (shrimp paste) for the flavor. One of ingredient for making peanut sauce is TERASI. So if your wife don't eat shrimp, be careful. Ask before order or you can say "Jangan pakai TERASI" (don't put the shrimp paste).

    Jonathan, Kelly and kids I have been watching your videos. So interesting to see a family going on a trip, crusin' around trying the local food.
    If I can give a suggestion, it's a good idea to ask the price of the food first before ordering especially if you are buying food on the street (kaki lima). They charged you the ketoprak was just way too expensive. Should be Rp 30.000 max for two. The es podeng price is fine.

    • @syuaip

      Ketoprak Ciragil is relatively high priced. I long suspect they make the peanut sauce out of cashew. Hence the higher pricing.

    • @aansky
      @aansky 2 года назад +2

      @@syuaip yup but not 30.000 a plate buddy. That is a food price in a mall not ketoprak on the street.

    • @syuaip
      @syuaip 2 года назад +8

      @@aansky bro, have you tried one there? i'm not disagreeing that the price is high. two reasons i'm not eating there often, one is many time i go there and found that they are closed, another one is the price. So yeah, it's not cheap. bottomline is, you cant expect Ketoprak Ciragil to follow your affordability. if you complain about its price, you arent their market.
      I still see a good thing that Bags Packes Family picked this Ketoprak to taste. A good benchmark for Indonesian food.

    • @devyl1516
      @devyl1516 2 года назад

      @@BagsPackedFamily Yes, Ketoprak Ciragil is the best ketoprak I've ever tasted, but it's also the most expensive. Generally, a plate of ketoprak is about 15K IDR, and it's not cheap considering it "only" contains rice cakes, bean sprouts, tofus, bihun (those white noodles), peanut and soy sauce, and some crackers. Those are cheap vegetables in Indonesia. The one you ate though, Ketoprak Ciragil, might be about 30K IDR per plate (I don't know the exact price now, since the last time I was there was before Covid). So the price is doubled. But yes, it's heavenly. 😆

    Rice vermicelli is a thin form of noodle. It is sometimes referred to as 'rice noodles' or 'rice sticks'. Rice vermicelli is widely known in Asia by cognates of Hokkien 米粉 (bí-hún, literally "rice vermicelli"). These include bīfun (Japan), bíjon or bihon (Philippines), bee hoon (Singapore), bihun or mee hoon (Malaysia and Indonesia), num banh chok (Cambodia), bún (Vietnam), and mee hoon (Southern Thailand).

    Basically we eat everything everytime, no such breakfast, lunch, dinner menu.
    Yes we have term sarapan (breakfast), makan siang (lunch) and makan malam (dinner) but not for the menu.
    And we consider avocado as fruit not vegetable, that's why we use in ice and smoothie.

    In Indonesia avocado often found in sweet dish, we even make avocado smoothie mix with condensed milk or honey
    It's because Indonesian avocado (SEA Avocado) is different varieties with the one used in Mexico, they use Avoca for savory dish like guacamole, put it on toast with fish thing like that
    But not here, I think Indonesian Avocado is less creamy (fatty) and slightly sweater, that's why it good for sweet dish

    Ketoprak Ciragil is a great choice. The special flavour comes from the peanut sauce. I suspect it is made from heavenly cashew. It beats other Ketoprak. I am drooling for one now after seeing your video.

    imo, the key that differentiate "morning" ketoprak and "night" ketoprak is the fried tofu, the morning one is slightly use cooking oil for frying the tofu, little bit like saute, but the night one is more deep fried like tofu, and added chopped cucumber :D
