The wagon R is actually one of the most interesting cars of the last 20 years. It is the best selling kei car and the only one to be internationally renowned, It had mazda, vauxhall and chevrotet spinnoffs. It achieved what the smart car only pretended to. We used to have a blue 1.3i manual WagonR+
The car did city driving around 38mpg and motorway it dropped to 32mpg and this when going 70mph+
I generally think, it was good, fun, comfortable car.
We did a house move in it and also used it like a van.
Sold it begin of this year, and after nearly 3 years owning it, everytime I see one on the roads, I just get a smile.
Good, it wasn't as fast as my NB, or not as comfortable as my 407, but we traveled with it from Skye to London and back.
It brought us to Liverpool, Wales and did some other road trips with it.
So, as a car enthusiast, it's not a sports car, but for what it is/was, they kind of brilliant.
We sold the Turdis, but she will be always in our memories.

I’ve just bought one of these - a manual - and I feel this car deserves a bit of defence. It’s so, so close to being a work of genius and was years ahead of its time. Not much larger than a Fiat 500 in terms of the size of it but much taller so not only is it great for around the city, even in the busiest of areas. The gearing is so short that it is well set up for in town driving too and despite the blender motor in place of an engine, it feels nippy around town. It’s surprisingly spacious too.
The looks are…divisive (I have MX-5 alloys that have been painted white on mine), as soon as you go over 55mph the engine has to work overtime and the little refinement it has goes out of the window.
A nicer interior, an extra 15bhp allowing for longer gear ratios and you’ve got a brilliant city car that can be used elsewhere. It’s a brilliant concept that’s just a little flawed in its execution.

I've got one, it's a 1.3l 5 speed manual, I've fitted it with a stainless steel exhaust and an Aisin AMR500 Roots type blower and it's a beast !!!
It's light, handling is poor but predictable... once you get used to it's vague electric steering and the global sponginess of the car (body, suspension, brakes...) once you start pushing it...
Soft tires cures easely the horrid oversteer issue ;-)
One could think it's easy to roll it, but trust me i've tried several times and it didn't (only two of the 4 wheels got air) !
And when the back seats are folded down you can put a 70's 50cc motorbike in the back, close the boot and still be able to fit two fully grown adults in the front seats !
Don't get me wrong it's not by any means a great car, but a cheap and cheerful one for sure :)

Apart from consumables like tyres and brake pads, the only thing that went "wrong" were the rear wheel bearings, which needed replacing after I drove through a deep ford (over wheel hub height) and water got into the bearings and ruined them. WassapDude94 A Twingo is a definite downgrade with the exception of 2nd gen DCi, GT and RS and perhaps the 3rd gen TCE models. I say that as a proud Twingo owner and former Agila/Wagon R+ sharer. Less practicality, not even any more power and you're no longer the showstopper that Swagon is.

I've toured in a Wagon R (early 2000's model) as a musician for 8 years, over 200k miles carting around gear and other musicians. Slept and camped in it plenty of times. Easy, cheap, and simple to fix, everything under the hood is accessible. It's no speed demon but they tend to be nippy, have a hella tight turning circle for city driving and carry a good load over distance. Absolutely love these cars!

The older model had a plastic basket under the passenger seat for you to take into shops, fill with stuff and not landfill carrier bags. Way ahead of its time.
But if you made it into a little sub box (eight inch sub fits nicely and you don't want too low frequencies) and had a female passenger whatever mood she was in would be improved within a minute of Goldie Timeless. ;-)

Dependable and reliable - I,ve had 6 from year 2002 through to 20075 manual, 1 Automatic. Worst catastrophe - 1 wheel bearing required in a 2004. Forget the underpowered 1.2 - the 1328cc is the best - followed by the 1298. Forget the red and yellow versions - the paint fades - Forget the Agila - only the small engine in this lookalike. I also have a Suzuki Carry 2003. No the most striking of vehicles but for dependability and reliability beats most.

It is actually a pretty decent car for city driving, especially in India considering how may restrictions we have in the Auto Industry and how chaotic it is to drive in India traffic. You need a lot of focus.
The version we have here is a scaled down version using the K series 998cc, 3 cylinder engine, generating a whooping 67 bhp. The same engine block is also used in the BalenoRS and Alto K10. We get only an AMT transmission and not the pure automatic as mileage is a major concern here especially since it runs in petrol and its extremely costly.
This car has one of the lowest maintenance a really good budget car and value for money here.

Had one for 10 years. Never let me down. Easy to service fun to drive ( but not over 60 mph) loads of space for a run to the tip if you fold down the seats. The car literaly has a wheel on each corner so it's a doddle to park anywhere ( it also looks like a wheeled skip so we called ours "Biffa"). Because of the seating position my lovely lady 5'3" can get out and I , all 6' of me can get in and not move the seat. It even has roof bars so you can get your 8x4' sheets of OSB from wicks on the roof ( although that does make the cornering a little ...dicey). Yes it's a granny shopping car but that's what it's good at.
