I’ve just bought one of these - a manual - and I feel this car deserves a bit of defence. It’s so, so close to being a work of genius and was years ahead of its time. Not much larger than a Fiat 500 in terms of the size of it but much taller so not only is it great for around the city, even in the busiest of areas. The gearing is so short that it is well set up for in town driving too and despite the blender motor in place of an engine, it feels nippy around town. It’s surprisingly spacious too. The looks are…divisive (I have MX-5 alloys that have been painted white on mine), as soon as you go over 55mph the engine has to work overtime and the little refinement it has goes out of the window. A nicer interior, an extra 15bhp allowing for longer gear ratios and you’ve got a brilliant city car that can be used elsewhere. It’s a brilliant concept that’s just a little flawed in its execution.

Dependable and reliable - I,ve had 6 from year 2002 through to 20075 manual, 1 Automatic. Worst catastrophe - 1 wheel bearing required in a 2004. Forget the underpowered 1.2 - the 1328cc is the best - followed by the 1298. Forget the red and yellow versions - the paint fades - Forget the Agila - only the small engine in this lookalike. I also have a Suzuki Carry 2003. No the most striking of vehicles but for dependability and reliability beats most.
Hey guys, I just wanted to say thank you for the review. You got me so excited about the car I got myself a 2005 Wagon R+ 1.3 VVT with 94hp. Should I end up modifying or even using it for instructed laps with Apex I'll let you know ;) greetings from a place between Nürburg and Hockenheim.
It is actually a pretty decent car for city driving, especially in India considering how may restrictions we have in the Auto Industry and how chaotic it is to drive in India traffic. You need a lot of focus. The version we have here is a scaled down version using the K series 998cc, 3 cylinder engine, generating a whooping 67 bhp. The same engine block is also used in the BalenoRS and Alto K10. We get only an AMT transmission and not the pure automatic as mileage is a major concern here especially since it runs in petrol and its extremely costly. This car has one of the lowest maintenance a really good budget car and value for money here.
I had a Wagon R for 14 years and found it the most reliable practical car I have ever had and with the rear seats down a great carrying capacity and a good work horse.
Actually looks a lot more interesting than some other cars. Just look some of the cars made for the American market in the 90s/early 2000s, some of the dullest pieces of design you'll ever see.
Had one for 10 years. Never let me down. Easy to service fun to drive ( but not over 60 mph) loads of space for a run to the tip if you fold down the seats. The car literaly has a wheel on each corner so it's a doddle to park anywhere ( it also looks like a wheeled skip so we called ours "Biffa"). Because of the seating position my lovely lady 5'3" can get out and I , all 6' of me can get in and not move the seat. It even has roof bars so you can get your 8x4' sheets of OSB from wicks on the roof ( although that does make the cornering a little ...dicey). Yes it's a granny shopping car but that's what it's good at.
Saw someone driving this. It was silver, with blue rims, a body kit, and a sticker that said “Made in Japan, perfected by me.” It wasn’t a pretty sight XD
My Uncle had one of these. They sold these in India where he lived. I rode in it. From what I remembered, they aren't so bad! It's mediocre. Kinda comfortable. Ok ride. And as said in this video, pretty much being a Kei car it's great for city roaming, where he lived.

I can not believe that he wrapped it in chrome. Chrome is the most expensive type of wrap (generally speaking) not to mention a wrap in general is not that cheap. He must have really had money to burn
This reminds me when Richard Hammond did the review for the pink micra on top gear 😂
ManWithTheMoustache Jeremy: “Well it just looks like a scrotum”
Its good enough for me if it gets me from point A to B without having to walk or use public transit.
Ethans camera work can almost ALMOST make a Suzuki wagon look cool..
drove a rental Opel Agila (the identical twin to this car) once, and was surprised of how spacious it was, how hard the seats were and how it felt like it was going to tipp over it's outer front wheel when going in a roundabout...
No the most striking of vehicles but for dependability and reliability beats most.
looks like alex was crying before the episode
Just bought one today. Fun small car if you ask me
Still waiting for Vtec to Kick in.
I had 1.3 wagon r manual it did 52 to the gallon . I regularly got 160 miles on £20 of petrol the most frugal petrol car I owned .
My dad owned this car. Drove it till 145kmph, very scary vehicle
5:18 it went from 7 to 9
If Kimi Raikkonen drives it it will double the price...
I have this car .😭
I still cant figure out why i bought it.
I swear Car Throttle creates better Car shot videos then the car reviews the creators of any car makes.
Hey guys, I just wanted to say thank you for the review. You got me so excited about the car I got myself a 2005 Wagon R+ 1.3 VVT with 94hp. Should I end up modifying or even using it for instructed laps with Apex I'll let you know ;) greetings from a place between Nürburg and Hockenheim.
well, this is my first car...
I'd bang it; quite literally. Too much boost and the engine will literally BANG! What did you think I meant?
I’m a simple man... I see a Suzuki Wagon R... I hit like...
What?!? No, don't sell her... Give her away at least
💀👌

There should be a giveaway to a random subscriber. Or he can scrap it and give the parts to fans. Either way is fine
Unless CT buys the car from Ethan he's not gonna give it away mate. Would you just give away your car for nothing?
The Dutchinator it's a £500 car tops... I don't think that they'd struggle without without it
I have one of the older models (99 Wagon R+) and it's such an awesome car.
Actually looks a lot more interesting than some other cars. Just look some of the cars made for the American market in the 90s/early 2000s, some of the dullest pieces of design you'll ever see.
hah thats nothing against škoda octavia (all generations)
There’s literally millions of these cars on the road here in Japan, pretty boring car culture we’ve got here, not gonna lie
WHOOAAA! VTEC!
leskyLSK *VTEC just kicks in Yo*
NNOOOOOOOOOOO MISSS YOU SWAGON
The still in hungary
Bollocks to 21mpg ,where did you get that figure From? Get more than that definitely
It really is 21 mpg. My parents have one. It is a travesty of design that car
@@kausarde4974 Bruh, our 1.3 72 hp got 40+ mpg at 50 mph and about 25 at 80 mph because it is up at 4k revs at 80 mph.
2-2.5k revs at 50 mph.
for a 1.3 they're shit on fuel but car cost me 300 quid with mot and low miles.
I think 21 kilo metre per litre
I have a manual one and it’s a joy. Needs wider wheels though, does tend to tripod on roundabouts haha
Saw someone driving this. It was silver, with blue rims, a body kit, and a sticker that said “Made in Japan, perfected by me.” It wasn’t a pretty sight XD
I think BoostedBoyz' Odyssey with lownmower engine was faster than this
To some it’s boring but for the watchers
It’s the car throttle car
Better than a prius 😂
My Uncle had one of these. They sold these in India where he lived. I rode in it. From what I remembered, they aren't so bad! It's mediocre. Kinda comfortable. Ok ride. And as said in this video, pretty much being a Kei car it's great for city roaming, where he lived.
The final shots are pure awesomeness!
15 seconds ago posted and already ten comments
And already doing 60mph
Juan Manuel Martinez Maaaaan I was writing the same!!

Interesting username and you like cats? I think I have some videos for you ;)
Convert it to rear engine set up add turbo then see something fun.
You forgot you can wear a tophat while driving!
someone says: it's better to drive a slow car fast (high rev), than drive a fast car slow.
It's the type of car you trundle down the road in listening to elevator music during rush hour with a long queue behind you to get to bingo.
