  • We are all different. We may all react in slightly different ways to things that happen to us. I am 70 years old. This is how it is with me 5 months after my heart attack. I hope those who have 'walked this walk', or have relatives who are 'on that road', find this wee video helpful as they make progress forward.
Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills

Glad to hear you are doing OK Tom. I have mentioned before that I had a valve replaced in 2012 and had a couple of incidents since then when I put myself under to much physical strain. But nothing damaging and I am still kicking. I pray that the Lord will look after us both until he calls us and says your time there is up just come on home and rest.

Just watched your video Tom.. Hope you get stronger in the months ahead..If it's any consolation I can not remember a May or June being so cold...We also had to put the central heating on and felt really cold at night.. Don't push yourself too much..take it easy and try and take a nap when you feel tired and exhausted...Michael

Hey thanks Michael. I was at a wee talk at the cardiac failure unit this morning and all the folks were saying much the same thing about what was happening to them. The guy speaking was mid 40s and he had always looked after himself but he had a heart attack too. His father and mother had heart attacks too. So it is in the genes. He is now back out on his racing bicycle after 3 years. Hope all is good for you. You never know what is round the corner Michael. Life is so short and fragile.
      Best wishes Tom

Hello Tom , I will be 72 this year and I can tell you I am starting to feel change , I have lots a stiffness and sore joints , my whole life has been outside in one way or another early days of farming tolls are showing up now , not to mention the years of motor racing which was very hard on the body back , neck and hands . I think for sure you have come through very well you are looking good and its ok to be a little slower , as the songs says " the cares of tomorrow can wait until this day is done " I am looking forward to come by those hills in Sept / Oct :) Thanks you Tom.

      72 Shaun??????
You look more like 55! What's your magic trick!
I look fine from the neck down!
Tanya says I'm walking around like an old man and she is right!
      Oh dear, oh dear!
I hope you manage to make it over and that the trip lives up to expectations. I'm always saddened returning to places I used to know well......so many ghosts, so many changes from how it was.

Hi Tom, it's been several weeks since I've visited your channel or in touch generally, due to having my own set of problems. I saw this video tonight and felt I had to pen a comment or two. I've been saying for a long time (much, I guess, like everyone else) that you should slow down; our brain tell us one thing, and our bodies another, and neither the twain meet in the middle! My brain gives me mixed messages, and even my body can't make its mind up. However, one plods on - good one day, not so good the next. It's like life itself, ever-changing.
It's good to exercise, but not to overdo it; it's good to relax, but not so much that you get lazy. Everything in balance is my mantra, and the only way I can cope with the changes.
My electric blanket has not been off since the end of last September, as I feel the cold. My central heating has come on automatically from when the temperature goes under 22 C - so that's been practically every day until about ten days ago.. The sunshine has brought me out of semi-hibernation, and the birdsong gets me out of bed by around 05.30 to start my day.
I take my days leisurely now, and probably like yourself, I find there are not enough hours in the day - so much to do, and so many things more I want to do; and that's when both the brain and body have a quiet arramgement for me to begin. I'm thinking that that's just about the same as you're experiencing it, so follow on with it my friend; do what you want to do, but in short measure and with spacing.
I'll have something to send you shortly whcih might explain a little why I've been absent - a sad story with possibly a happy ending!!
Stay safe and well my friend - trust your instincts and what your body tells you. Fond regards, Reg

hi Reg As you say it's getting the balance as right as possible.
My, my you have been using the electric blanket too. ( I thought it was just us! )
      You start very early!
I'm doing the same things each day as I always did but at a much slower rate. Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays are largely rest days in between the grandchildren! Unfortunately other things do arise that will not fit into this timetable. That's when it gets a bit difficult. The school holidays will bring their own problems on how to balance activities. We will be minding both children 5 days a week instead of 3. There are holiday clubs etc to bring them to so this makes it a bit easier but it's going to be challenging. But we'll see how we go. Youngest son Ben gets married in 3 weeks time too so that will bring more differences.
I am always grateful to be still here and to be able to carry on. There are just so many folk a hundred times worse than me in real constant pain while I'm out for a walk with the wee man and jumping on the old bike. I must sound like a moan.
      You take care Reg
      Tom

Wow Tom, its hard to believe its been 5 months, were has time gone?
This heart attack has been a major alteration in your wellbeing Tom my father had one at i think at 75 and had a new valve fitted and from being a reasonably fit man for his age he just adjusted and as they say dropped a cog, i think if you can snatch 30 to 45 minutes nap on an afternoon that will help a lot i do it everyday and even if we visit our Claire in Hull I'll take myself of into the living room for 40 winks, LOL, on top of a major setback like you've had as we get older we naturally slow down and pace ourselves, what doesn't get done today gets done tomorrow type of style and in some ways you get more done in the long run,but anyway it's each to there own but you are looking great, there's still plenty of milage left in you Tom McClean,LOL.

    • @TomMcClean
      @TomMcClean  14 дней назад

I hope there is plenty of milage Chris. Dropping a cog or two is exactly what is needed. I have slowed up considerably. That's interesting and smart about you going for a nap. You have a lot of wisdom.

Tom - as a man of similar age - I am almost certain that the "new you" probably beats all to hell the alternative of a "No you"? A wise man once told me to "enjoy each of these days because someday we will look back upon them as The Good Old Days"!

Keep up your sprits, slow and steady wins the race. If you feel tiredness consider energy drinks consult a dietitian and keep up the exercise regime while improving your bodies volume of oxygen intake that helps supports the cardio activity. Research……VO2 max…..and how it can be improved. Looking after kids is a tough job…..there’s a reason they invented soccer balls…..get them round to the park and take a folding chair with you allow them to run and play while you watch! Go easy…..until you regain some reprieve from the current state and have faith keep improving the best you’re able. Hills can be your new challenges document the day you do it and the time it takes to go up it….progress needs to be monitored for a mental affirmation to your progress. 👍 Happy day’s…..just try your best. ❤

Hey GC. Thanks for that. I certainly am slow and ....well a wee bit unsteady at times. You know i never even considered energy drinks! You have me smiling at the folding chair idea. I'm doing well with a good wife at my side. Slow and steady it is my friend.

Not to tell you how to live your life but perhaps your son or daughter should make other arrangements for their kids rather than dump them on the old man. You need rest to recover from your episode and the stress of looking after rug rats doesn't help.
Btw, it's not the middle of June, it's the 170th of January.
    Hang in there.

Ah Goober. I very much hear what you are saying. We are probably too soft. We love seeing the wee ones when so many friends can't, because they live so far away, but it is tough at times. I had next to no good memories of any of my grand parents. It's great to have an input into their lives to help try and mold them for good.
Yes our weather is indeed like autumn or even winter. I wouldn't be surprised to be told that the Met people/'experts' are experimenting with it.
