In the beginning of a longer than seven day streak, I feel like my focus has increased while my awareness of peripheral things has diminished. When I released once a week in the past I felt more intelligent, reaching a peak around a day or so after I released and then everything goes downhill afterwards quite drastically. Retaining for a few weeks, I don't have the same level of creativity, but I feel more able to synthesize solutions to problems effectively, more articulate, and I feel less daunted when I encounter scenarios that require rational thinking. Put simply, I can think more clearly. I feel though a marked lack of immediately perceiving the implications of stimuli or concepts I encounter throughout the day. But I have ADHD and the aforementioned may be a sign of retention alleviating the symptoms of my ADHD. But to be honest, I kinda miss that ability. It allows me to come up with novel concepts and gain understanding on new topics quite rapidly, though my self control and ability to focus on tasks goes to hell at the same time. Bloody two edged sword.
absolutely relate to what you're saying. For me after binge relapses I gain an insane amount of ability to focus with tunnel vision on one thing and not get distracted. However I lose this as i go longer on a streak and I can percieve more around me. However the good thing is the intuitions and insights from a longer streak lead to more jumps in effeciency and understandig the big picture which in the long term leads to more work done than being hyperfocused on one thing.
@@J2day2 I think it is similar to how weight training can make you able to lift heavier weights than before. I did quit it since SR produces similar results, but did lose a bit of wm gains :P
@@bluegiant13 interesting I actually had a goal to make it to dual-8-back but had to give it up as my life became so busy back then. Working memory gains were legit
@@J2day2 I just opened the app again to see the statistics. My peak was 9, it took me 188 days. It actually doesn't take much time. I remember doing only 5 rounds in the morning which came to about 10 minutes. I've noticed these little habits are easy to do but also easy to not do, small efforts and consistency works better. But your video has definitely inspired to look at it again
@@bluegiant13 Man I feel you about the slight edge of good habits. My plan is to get back into it once I go fulltime as an entrpeneur and it will become my morning habit!
I stumbled upon your channel this morning, and I immediately subscribed and enabled post notifications. It feels like I've discovered a goldmine of knowledge; everything you say deeply resonates with me. Regarding the dual n-Back game, how long did you stick with it? I'm thinking of trying it to see if I experience similar results.
thanks man, appreciate your accidental stumble onto this channel. So I looked back at my notes and I did it for 6 months (July 2014-Dec 2014). In that time I went from dual 1 back to just about 70-80% on Dual 4 back. I've actually restarted it this year from end of July 2023 to now. In that same period I've reached the same level. Its fascinating how this time around I am making the same gains in less than half the time despite it being nearly 10 years since I did it consistently. Definately permanent gains!
not at all, new videos are coming soon. its been a nightmare trying to hire someone new and finallly found someone to help me. The quality of the videos should also improve
Definitely so. I feel like my conversations with others are a lot easier when I am long on retention.
That’s true when I go on a streak I become a genius
Missed your videos bro.
Fantastic explainatory piece on systems thinking - would love to heard more.

I played that same game for a year or so, what a coincidence. Brings back memories
oh damn really? its mind-blowing (no pun intended) that there's a game like that can literally make you smarter after a while playing it

Am on Day 21💯
When do you usually start to see these benefits?
for me it happened after a few cycles of 30 day streaks. however most noticeable was when I went 87 days in 2018 and it was very very noticeable

Is J2day on a relapse binge?

Are you? 😢
Am still alive bro. My new editor is making a new video hopefully ready in a couple of weeks
