Well, yeah, but it helps to unleash your creative freedom. If you are starting and come up with a good composition it lets you try out different effects and get an idea of how they'd sound, you can then buy the actual pedal.

The expensive ones have gotten better, but nothing I've tried has ever been able to replicate that warm saturation that tubes have. Funny how the old technology is still the most sonically pleasing.

I like to have my pitch shifter set to a 4th interval so I can do a dual lead with one guitar. I always like to Djent with a chorus and delay, a flanger, a compressor and a nice, subtle heavy metal distortion.

you understand its all made digital these days? I mean most people don't use tape decks anymore... so its usually converted to digital at some point. the only time it actually matters is if you are say, using a digital pedal but output to analogue only to convert it back to digital again. real effects are cool. so are tape decks. but its not that big of a deal anymore. in some cases, digital is actually better... its also more convenient than keeping racks and pedals all over. everything has a footprint... and little wall warts, often...
Just because you want to justify all the expensive gear you bought doesn't mean you should forget that over 90% of humans can't tell if an effect is digital.

you understand its all made digital these days? I mean most people don't use tape decks anymore... so its usually converted to digital at some point.
the only time it actually matters is if you are say, using a digital pedal but output to analogue only to convert it back to digital again.
real effects are cool. so are tape decks. but its not that big of a deal anymore. in some cases, digital is actually better... its also more convenient than keeping racks and pedals all over. everything has a footprint... and little wall warts, often...
