If you want to toast the channel:
    1) Upload your video toast to RUclips.
    2) Mark it as "unlisted" if you don't want the video to appear in public search results.
    3) Put a link to the video in our comments with the hashtag "#toast".

** Can I donate a whisk(e)y for you to review in The Whisk(e)y Vault?
Of course! If you’re interested in making a tax-deductible donation towards our whiskey selection, head on over to:
    11:27 - boof
    austinwhiskyvau...
    ** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
    **A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

  • @MatthewEDrew

Glad you guys like the juice! I've known these guys for the past few years and have loved everything of theirs I've tasted.
Never picked up on Nancy's signature, but as soon as I tasted it when I got home, I zeroed right in on it. So cool!
So I'm the Maltster for an estate distillery coming on-line here in the next couple months, and I've been doing a TON of research on really cool, rare corns. (At work they say I'm a corn addict). One of the corns we're going to grow this season is Bloody Butcher, and these guys are responsible for first turning me onto it a few years back. Your comment about the color of the corn having an impact on the flavor is dead-on. Anthocyanins (blue and black corns) will offer different flavors than, say carotenoids (orange corns).
So we're going to play with more than ten other really cool corns, spanning all colors of the rainbow to see what they taste like off the stills.
    SO STOKED!!!

You could totally throw a cotton candy centrifuge in a used whisky barrel. Probably want to use a super smokey whisky like an Islay, since it's not going to be in contact for long. Oh man, someone needs to make this happen... you'd have to work on getting a barrel that's the right size though. An average commercial barrel would probably be a little wide to catch the sugar properly, but then you could see how fast the centrifuge will spin to increase the range of the spun sugar. This is a great summer project idea.

i have decided to just enjoy drinking my whisky for the moment instead of trying to taste it like a professional taster and eventually i should get used to it and pick up the subtleties inherent within and move on to more complex whiskys

    • @GlasgowMick89
      @GlasgowMick89 6 лет назад

Yeah i do the same. Every month i've been spending a little chunk on whiskys i usually haven't tried just to expand my experience. Always look for deals too. I can usually pick 1 or 2 notes out but i do struggle. I'm improving here and there. Then after so many, i struggle even more because... reasons. I just try to enjoy them these days. It's a nice little hobby... little. Too many whiskys already and getting 4 more to try soon *shakes head*.

You guys should do hot-sauce next time you have a dry week. It's very similar to whiskey how they have so many different kinds from all over the world. From the habanero islays to the calmer cayenne sauces or Tabasco which is actually aged in Jack Daniels whiskey barrels. Also it might be entertaining to see you guys sweat it out.

Rex, can you ask Daniel to toast my recovery. On January 3rd, I was on a group road bike ride coming downhill and hit debris and crashed at 30+mph (my GPS showed I hit the debris and stopped pedaling at 33.6mph and my last recorded speed before it stopped was 29.8mph). I ended up with a broken bone, 3 open wounds, bruised ribs which lead to pneumonia, and road rash and bruising over most of the right side of my body.
This past weekend my wife and I went for our 2nd outdoor ride since the crash. And we went 36.2 miles. My arm is still weak, the cuts on my knee are still healing, and the one on my palm has painful scar tissue so being able to ride 2 hours was a pretty big accomplishment. The day before I crashed me and her did 62 miles and we were planning to do 100 and then go to Fogo de Chao that Saturday with some friends.
I think a fair request is something that is at least 36 years old. I'll leave the exact bottle up to Rex ;)
In reality, the Tribe did wish me well back in January when it happened and I even had a few locals offer to help mooch my collection since I could not drink for a few weeks due to some of the meds I was on. So you know this is a magnificent community. I've still got a ways to go to get my strength back. I'm hoping to do my first 50+ mile ride this weekend and my first 100+ mile week since the crash. By comparison my single longest day is 101 miles and longest week is 200. I was really hoping to do a 150 day and 300 week this spring before it gets hot here. But maybe next year. Just glad that life is returning to normal. And most importantly, that I can enjoy my collection without having to let it be mooched "to avoid oxidation" ;)

Glad to hear you're recovering! So sorry for the craziness. Glad you're still with us.
I'll show your comment to Rex... I may or may not edit it certain parts of your request..........

Is Rex homeless. Or is he a fan of that look?

As a beginner, would it be a good idea for me to use whiskey stones?

use or don't use as you prefer! No wrong answer on that one. All it does is chill the whisky slightly which will bury some of the flavor notes. could make it easier and smoother to start with.

Review compass box flaming heart! It's one of the best whisky I've ever tasted and I need to know your opinion.

Last night me and my wife watched three DVDs back to back.
Luckily I was the one facing the TV.

You pick a comment that brings Rex visions of King Alexander III, and then leave him hanging? You're a cork tease, Whittington!

Wonder, would the bloody butcher corn effect the colouring much? Just googled it

    • @meesternibbles
      @meesternibbles 6 лет назад

From what (little) I understand, I don't think so. Coloring comes from the barrels (or additives, but hopefully whisky isn't being tainted like that).

Oh totally the barrel has a big factor in it. Just curious as some as its natural colouring may translate over

When distilling happens, everything becomes completely clear. If you look at "new" whiskies, they look like water. All colouring comes from things other than the grains (ie. the barrel/food colouring).
