My proud dad moment was recent when my 22 yr. old had friends over and they were drinking Captain & Cokes and bragging about how strong they were making them, while my son walked out to the campfire with Knob Creek 120 single barrel with one ice cube. His friends tried it and nearly choked. They all asked him how he could drink "that stuff." He kind of laughed and when he went in for his second glass, he grabbed my Laphroaig Quarter Cask, neat. Needless to say, his friends suddenly thought the bourbon was kind of tame. And they think my son is nuts. Funniest part is my son doesn't normally drink. He just wanted to show off.
Great video guys, I just got back from my trip to India. Have you tried any of the Paul John Single Cask's or Select Casks being the Classic (unpeated) or the Peated? Would be great to hear your thoughts on them as well. Indian Single Malts are really developing and growing but as you said Daniel the Angel Share is huge meaning little maturation time compared to Scotch Whisky. Cheers Fella's
Question; What ~5L barrel would you recommend to blend an Infinity Bottle every once and again? Nothing with to big an impact and overtake the mix i hope to one day concoct
Wild Turkey 101 is the only whiskey my father drinks. Should I get him something similar to Wild Turkey like the Fighting Cock or is there another whiskey that's similar to Wild Turkey???
Question for the Somm. I was recently at a distillery tour and they said that they had experienced something that I would like more knowledge on. After charring their barrels they had one that was extinguished quickly and they said that what came out had the more carmel and vanilla notes. But, the other had been extinguished slowly and contributed more smoke notes to the whiskey. Is this yet another variable that is used?
Seems like it would be a legitimate variable, the slowly extinguished one would have burned into the wood a little farther which could trap some of the smoke in it. Hopefully we can get a response from Daniel on this when they record the next set. Take the thumb up and hope it gets noticed.
Yes, in theory it's possible. Lightly charred / toasted wood will lead to less wood tannins. Heavily charred makes it more woody. If they changed nothing else about the inputs, that would definitely be the case.
I just wanted to say, that as I am from Chile, earthquake country, When I see all the whisk(e)ys un the vault on the shelfs. I only see a disaster waiting to happen. I watch it and get scared shitless.
As a Californian I think the same thing. But earthquakes are very rare around Austin, and when they happen they're small. The most recent one nearby happened 3 years ago, and it was a 2.9 magnitude. Very likely, few people even felt it.
I know what you mean. I live in Japan and we get a tremor every few months or so.They need to put some rails or lips or something on those shelves. Incidentally, I was curious so I looked it up: Austin lies directly on the Balcones faultline!......It hasn't erupted in 15 million years or so, and is considered one of the lowest risk fault lines in the United States. Looks like it's due if you ask me. YOU WERE WARNED, REX AND DANIEL!
Watching these from the start, i must say i found it mighty brave of you to accept bottles that were open. I guess when you were smaller there was also less chance of a crazy sending you something dangerous.
Thank you for getting to another Indian (1st being Amrut Fusion) Whiskey! Being Indian myself I have a sense of national pride when seeing all of the positive critical reviews and wish they were more readily available in my neck of the woods! (Ohio -_-) So far I have only obtained Amrut but have been eyeing Paul John for awhile!
Yes. At the Liverpool Whisky Festival I had Brilliance, Edited (which is simply peated Brilliance) and Bold. All were great. I bought a bottle of Edited.
Fantastic, I call the Edited an edited version of the brilliance with the peat. Did they also have the Select casks for you to try at the festival which are all 55% abv?
Its one of the things I love about festivals, I'm hopefully getting to the Midlands one this weekend and if not then to the London one. Hopefully you get to try them soon!
Might just be me, but I think they got the whiskeys the wrong way round after the blind tasting xD side note, how do you feel about Tullamore Dew 12, tried it in a whiskey tour in Dublin and fell in love with it!
Nice episode...just finished off my current bottle of WT 101...I love it's balance of sweet, spicy, and savoury, and I always get fairly present herbal sage note...good stuff!
Serendipity Dec 29, 2020. I go to Va ABC in my area outside Charlottesville and credit card machines down. Cash only. I had $5 in wallet. Bought samplers of Fighting Cock and WT101. Let the battle begin.
I am a fan from Romania. I am new to the world of wiskey. I only had 2 single malts Glenfidih 12 and Chardu 12 and want to try a peted whiskey. Do you tink that a cand try Laphroaig 10? I like exprsso.
You might be better off trying Ardbeg 10. It has sweeter notes than the Laphroaig. Dont get me wrong as Laphroaig is a nice taste, its just a bit dryer on the pallet and not near as sweet. I keep both and in many expressions when the mood strikes
I had to treat myself to a new experience in whiskey. Once I completed the quarterly challenge( in a different way). Antibiotics! I have bought outlaw bourbon! Wow what an experience! I’ve checked the website couldn’t find anything on smoking the grain. I’m getting smoke. I’m in love with this whiskey. Daniel you’re awesome Rex the dude! I need to say no more.
@Rex and Daniel I just tried Bullet bourbon for the first time and keep getting a "sour rubber" and "mineraly rock" taste do you get any of these flavors? #CHADWEEK
Daniel and Rex, what are your professional views on tasting clubs such as flaviar or tasters club? One gives samples and one gives full bottles. Are they worth the price in the long run or will I pay $80 a month and get stuck with $40 bottles of whiskey ultimately getting screwed?
Jon Gardner posted on the tribe’s fb I love yeasty bread flavors, like those in a hefeweizen. Anyone know where I can get a strong yeast tasting whiskey? I really like them too any recommendations
Daniel, it was a cold day of work out in the snow today, so I decided to try your old concoction of bourbon and Swiss Miss using Evan Williams, and damn is this stuff good!
Great episode. Love that you're back on whiskey. Your channel is my new favorite. Saw the chocolate vid. Quick tip.... try squishing the dark chocolate in your hands.... get it all smushy and then try kneading it and then wadding it into a ball on saran wrap. Then throw it away. Sláinte
I introduced a friend- my own mooch- to smoky whiskys. Started with Black Bottle, moved to Double Black and then on to Shackleton's and McCarthy's... ended up at Ardbeg Uigeadahl. His comment was, "Wow! I didn't know whisky did that!"
Hi guys!! I know this got nothing to do with the whiskys from the video, but have you tried Whisky Of Ye Monk’s?? whats up with that whisky? does it even exist?..... By the way keep up the great work.
I've always said they need to set up an air handling system for these barrel houses, pass the air through a cooling tunnel and condense the evaporated whiskey back into liquid. Nertz to the angels and their share, you've now created the largest still...in the world.
JasonWhiskyWise we have a limited number of the Paul John products here in coastal South Carolina so far my favorite is the Edited with about 5 drops of water. The peat is light enough it does not overpower the sweet nuttiness of the barley and wood notes. My go to is Compass Box Lost Blend which I still have 3 bottles of. I like Rock Oyster Sherry Cask and the 18 year old by Douglas Laing. I run a Whisky Club here in Pawleys Island we taste 6 times a year and 5 different Scotches and Whiskies a tasting. In April we are doing all America Night starting with East Coast Ryes to St. George Single Malt. June will be Scotches from each region of Scotland. It does make for an interesting hobby.
That's a bummer on the distribution of Paul John there but your Whisky Club is awesome as its a great way to share different whiskies with a group. Rock Oysters are great and my personal favourite is the Rock Oyster Cask Strength from Douglas Laing as their company have some great releases. I'm just starting out on my Rye adventure but Scotch's id say I'm seasoned with lol. I agree whisky is a great hobby and really fun to hear peoples opinions and tasting notes on the whiskies as everyone has a unique palate. Hope you have a great tasting!
JasonWhiskyWise if you can find HighWest Mid Winter Dram buy it. It is a mix of 6 and 16 year old rye finished in Port Wine casks, it is worth the money around $100.00. If on a budget get a bottle of Bulleit Rye and use that as your base to compare other ryes.
This episode was like watching two kids with ADD trying to tell a story. Neither of you could stay on topic. Now sure that isn't unusual, but this episode was more chaotic. Going from whiskey in warm temperatures to the chocolate tasting to proposing a bbq tasting to tossing Daniel out a window to a dad story then back to chocolate with a dash of tea before finally getting on with the review all in 8 minutes 30 seconds, was fun to watch. I'm guessing the Ritalin kicked in around that time.
Because it's called "straight" bourbon. If you put "straight" it's at least 2yrs old, but if it's younger than 4, it has to have an age statement. After 4, no age statement needed.
BBQ is a great idea, or maybe even just different types of BBQ sauce. Or hot sauce! There are literally tons of different kinds of hot sauces out there to try!

BTW.... you are welcome for the BBQ suggestion. I do not know what you will pull out for the next QC.... lets add some flair to it... cheese, tea, coffee... really??? I would rather watch you do an unboxing of doughnuts... just saying... well, i guess you live and learn... until the next pour...
This is a topic I haven't seen discussed. STRANGE WOODS FOR AGING WHISKEY! All I can ever find is people aging whiskey in oak, wether is white American or European. We all know oak is used, but why not others? Disregarding the size of the trees making for less of a yeld for barrel making, and off flavores some might impart, are all tree viable for aging whiskey, or are there some trees we need to stay the hell away from. Im currently aging (wooding) what would be a bourbon in several jars, with several different woods, at similar chars. Oak, hickey, cherry, maple, walnut, and mesquite. All seasoned, dried, chipped and charred (#3) WILL ONE OF THESE KILL ME? The walnut and mesquite smell like they would at this point. no more gift reviews dammit. gimme some of that Glenfiddich xx, Macallan edition 1, 2 and 3 reviews. I need to know if Highland park 18 is worth the money. I need to know about treaty oaks Ghost Hill expression and if its as good as they say. At least give me a mixture of mainstream whiskeys which are somewhat accessible to the people and then do gifted reviews.
I don't believe I've ever tried Indian whisky but I have had Fighting cock and honestly they're not messing around with the actual product it's a fine well bourbon imo.
Indian Scotch..........hmmmmmm!!!!! I’m not sure if I’d try any of them just on a whim. I’ve had Indian beer (Kingfisher) and it was horrible. I became very ill after drinking it as a matter of fact. That one experience doesn’t mean Indian whiskies are bad, but I remain skeptical. If you guys like them, that’s more of an endorsement I can trust. Who knows, maybe someday.
im kind of surprised you didnt add water to the 101 and the fighting cock to go further indepth with the profile. All in all im glad youre back to whiskey. I personally am not on your level also more of a bourbon and moonshine guy. The whitetrash stuff if you will lol but just like cars a chevy caviler can be as just as much fun as a ferrari if you go balls to the wall lol "heres to fighting stealing and drinking" stay safe!
so in my blind tests fighting cock beat six and twenty five grain and it beat Early times BiB in blind head to head, it it wasn't even close on the Early Times. It even beat Buffalo Trace! I can't believe this is a $17 bottle! And my son graduated from South Carolina (the gamecocks) so I bought him a bottle! Fighting Cock lost to Russell Reserve 10 year, but that is a $17 versus a $40, so not fair. 3 wins, 1 loss. Totally surprised.
My proud dad moment was recent when my 22 yr. old had friends over and they were drinking Captain & Cokes and bragging about how strong they were making them, while my son walked out to the campfire with Knob Creek 120 single barrel with one ice cube. Kunal Brahmbhatt Peated version of our indian whiskys are heaven. Better than many scotch single malts.
I’m from Hyderabad and we have India’s largest liquor mall but still Paul John is hard to find! Hopefully will get my hands on the bold soon!
@@Namburiadityasairam2605 tried Tonic? It's available there.
I have the Paul John Edited which a is slightly peated version of the Brilliance. It's much nicer.

hey, guys,
at 12:40, is Rex saying 'dalton' smoothe or 'dolphin' smoothe?
dolphin smooth
Nice episode...just finished off my current bottle of WT 101...I love it's balance of sweet, spicy, and savoury, and I always get fairly present herbal sage note...good stuff!
Hey guys what does Jim beam go good with in the vault
Serendipity Dec 29, 2020. I go to Va ABC in my area outside Charlottesville and credit card machines down. Cash only. I had $5 in wallet. Bought samplers of Fighting Cock and WT101. Let the battle begin.

Got a few bottles of this like a year ago and I've been waiting for you to do this review! THANK YOU!
The barbecue idea sounds absolutely amazing. Please do that.
The Paul John Edited seems also to be 👍. Did you guys ever tried Amrut Fusion? Also from India.
It's awesome! We did a video on it somewhere
I would really like to see you guys review a bottle of J. R. Ewing.
I just had some Paul John last week :-)
did somm mooch whske from the mooch in 12:33
You guys mixed the 101 and FC up btw... So you liked the FC more than the 101. Daniel even said the FC is friendlier at 12:00. Just saying....
Great episode. Love that you're back on whiskey. Your channel is my new favorite. Saw the chocolate vid.

Is it standard to use 6 row barley or is it more common to use 2 row?
I think 2 row is more common, but I've never really done the research.
Whiskey Vault actually Indian single malts uses 6 row barley as it is more common here.
You need to review Laphroaig Triple Wood!

Hey you still haven't told me how got around master of malts delivery restrictions.
They just instituted new restrictions. I have no idea now. That's only about 1 month old.
Just tried to send a bottle to you, from the master of malt. You are on the restricted delivery list.....
They probably noticed all that whisky being sent to a single address and figured you guys had some kind of bootleg operation going on.
What did one snowman say to the other snowman?
Do you smell carrots?
LOL, great review. Almost disappointed that it took until around 13 minutes for the first bit of juvenile humor. Thanks for saving it, Rex.
Add a few drops of water into the Paul John it changes the flavors quite a bit for the better.
It does some wonders to the Single Casks and Select Casks aswell. Which is your favourite?
JasonWhiskyWise we have a limited number of the Paul John products here in coastal South Carolina so far my favorite is the Edited with about 5 drops of water. Oh if you two do a BBQ episode, you've got to figure out a way to do a Kansas City style v Texas Style BBQ. The ultimate throwdown.
This episode was like watching two kids with ADD trying to tell a story. Neither of you could stay on topic. Now sure that isn't unusual, but this episode was more chaotic. I have wondered about the opened bottles or sample vials. Figured you were pretty trusting to accept something like that :-)
#SafetyFirst :-D
I knew it was coming, but I didn't know it would take .5 seconds!
I'm pretty sure Daniel forgot which is which, Rex liked the one in his right hand, which was the Fighting Cock, not the WT 101.
Try Solan number one whiskey! Really good!
hey, guys,
how do you know the FC is at least 4 years old? It's not BIB.
Because it's called "straight" bourbon. If you put "straight" it's at least 2yrs old, but if it's younger than 4, it has to have an age statement. After 4, no age statement needed.
oh, yah - I forgot - I'm going back to cheese...
BBQ is a great idea, or maybe even just different types of BBQ sauce. Or hot sauce! There are literally tons of different kinds of hot sauces out there to try!
Used to work with a guy that was a massive South Carolina fan. Had a huge photo of the mascot on his computer. (We used to rib each other alot) I walked up saw the desktop background, and said” ahh SC gamecocks fan huh? Do they call it a gamecock because giant red chicken doesn’t have the same ring to it?”
Texas Barbeque Crawl! Oh HELL YEAH!
I'm looking forward to the BBQ episode...
Great stuff!! I found the Bold very nice as well 👌🥃!!
I can see it now. Rex has Daniel by the belt loops and the back of the shirt. Rex heaves Daniel twards said window. His fingers get stuck in Daniels belt loops. They both fall out the window.
That moment when Daniel moans just as Rex says *BASTARD* xD
Now I wana see you guys do a black licorice episode next quarter!
Seriously though you should do something with BBQ
Rex, don't hip check Daniel, he could hurt himself falling all the way off that apple-box.
Rex had Bourbon Brain Seize at 11:54!!
... why dident I buy any whisky today...
BTW.... you are welcome for the BBQ suggestion. I do not know what you will pull out for the next QC.... lets add some flair to it... cheese, tea, coffee... really??? I would rather watch you do an unboxing of doughnuts... just saying... well, i guess you live and learn... until the next pour...
I second a donut tasting in the next QC.
This is a topic I haven't seen discussed.

Eric Schwab Thank you for the Link, it looks like ill be fine just sampling in a few months.
I think you guys should do your own BBQ next quarter, and try to make some marinades and rubs using whisky. Do it for....the PEEPUL
Would you please try fireball, American honey or Canadian club whisky
no more gift reviews dammit. gimme some of that Glenfiddich xx, Macallan edition 1, 2 and 3 reviews. I need to know if Highland park 18 is worth the money. Need a Whisky and M&M pairing
Peanut M&M's are the only real M&M.
Rex , before handguns were available defenestration was all the rage. Just saying.
My dad invented a cocktail for one of his novels called "The Defenestrated Zombie"
BBQ challenge sounds awesome.
Might be seeing things but I think Daniel flipped the Whiskies so Rex chose Wild Turkey...
Just bought this for $16 and fuck it’s great at that price
Try Rampur indian whiskey
Holy crap.... second! wow...
the edradour fairy flag is really good.and i am not crazy about edradour
Ive always heard wild turkey referred to as the kickin chicken...interesting.
5:35 flashback To Dumb and Dumber. Lloyd just when I think you can't possibly get any dumber, you go and do this, and TOTALLY REDEEM YOURSELF!
Daniel didn't complete which Indian whiskey is his favourite
Yeessss! More blind tastings!!!
I propose that on the next QC you guys need to taste HOT SAUCES! I demand to watch yall sweat! Plus their are some amazing and complex sauces out.
C'mon! Fight the power! Stick it to the man! DRINK that possibly poisoned whisky! THAT'LL SHOW EM!
Add 3 drops of water and it changes completely.
I don't believe I've ever tried Indian whisky but I have had Fighting cock and honestly they're not messing around with the actual product it's a fine well bourbon imo.
This is the first time for me to watch this video and the mooch skills in this one are on point, 3 years later and Rex has lost it.
This distillery's mithuna whisky is the world's third best wisky in Murray Wisky book
Why did you had kingfisher beer? It's cheap shit and nobody really likes it here. Should have tried Bira.

SQUEEZING THE TEA BAG!
im kind of surprised you didnt add water to the 101 and the fighting cock to go further indepth with the profile.
Lockhart is freakin awesome. Not far from Austin either. Just saying 😬
so in my blind tests fighting cock beat six and twenty five grain and it beat Early times BiB in blind head to head, it it wasn't even close on the Early Times. Totally surprised.
by the way, the bottle now says "aged 36 months"

Love you guys but that "proud dad moment" story seems in poor taste with the recent school shooting in florida.
