** Can I donate a whisk(e)y for you to review in The Whisk(e)y Vault?
Of course! If you’re interested in making a tax-deductible donation towards our whiskey selection, head on over to:
    11:27 - boof
    austinwhiskyvau...
    ** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
    **A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

Was thinking of you guys yesterday. Stopped at the store and was trying to choose between Balcones Single Malt or Jefferson Ocean (which was on sale). Same price, but decided to try the Texas offering since it was something I'd not tried. Even went back this morning and watched your review on the Balcones. And MAN! Was that some good whiskey!

According to Wikipedia: "Minnesota 13 was the name given to the corn liquor moonshine distilled on many central Minnesota Stearns County farms." So, Minnesota 14 is Panther Distillery's tribute to Minnesota 13.

So, I am writing to you from the future. 4 years 3mos and 3 days to be exact. I came looking specifically for a review of Balcones Texas Rye 100 proof. I find this to be an incredible rye, that has nothing in common with any other rye. On the nose there is a heavy Juarez MX leather shop leather There is a hint of dark rye bread, chocolate and coffee and oak. The palate is f#@king amazing. It is a Mint Chocolate Chip Coffee extravaganza with a burnt sugar sweetness that goes for days. I know that most of the unwashed will not appreciate this. More for me.

Have either of you tried the naked grouse? It’s a new whiskey from the famous grouse brand but with whisky from highland park and macallan mixed and THEN aged mixed in Sherry casks.
I’ve got about 12 whiskeys in the 20 to £30 range and this one I got for 20 quid from amazon and blows all the others out the water. Honestly competes with monkey shoulder for my favourite cheap whisky. Very fruity tho

I dislike the ashy vibe, just reminds me of something burnt i didnt like the smell of. Would recommend it though because its special. I would almost describe it as an islay rye if that makes sense. Always like the content keep up the good work greeting from holland.

Will Koch Hibiki isn’t being shut down. They’re just discontinuing their age statement releases. The new (new packaging anyway) Harmonys are out in stores all over So Cal w/in the last month or so. Haven’t heard if they’re gonna release other NAS to compensate for the loss of the 12 & 17. I hope so otherwise Harmony is gonna become damn hard to find. Annoying.

As someone who has been here since Rex was clean shaven and well groomed I must say, I think you are doing a great disservice to the people who took the time and effort to donate something to the vault. I get it that there are a bunch of donations piling up in the vault, and the new legion of fans want something that is easy to find, and you have the Patreon donors to please. But this was just wrong. Those people donated something to help out the show, and should be respected a little more than this. 2 donations at a time..great. 3 donations...ok. Any more than that and it just seems like a brush off.

I had to come and check this out just to see what you said about the balcones rye, I got a bottle today and it was so intensely coffee and chocolate that I had to make sure there wasnt something wrong with my palette. I'm glad I wasn't off because I love it, it has the intensity and lingering of a lot of the Islay whiskys I love but the flavors are more approachable. I think that would be a great whisky for introducing someone to more heavy intense whisky without challenging them with brine or peat notes that tend to be more divisive

Randomly, at 3am, I re-watched #RexWeek and I figured I'd try to blend now that my whiskey collection has gotten big enough. HOWEVER... My palette might be fried from spicy food and the HP12 I poured earlier. The blend I ended with was a base of (about) 1/2 Tomatin 12, 1/4 Bunnahabhain 12, and 1/4 Michter's American. I like it a lot.... I think.... I'll have to try it again at a better time to be sure.
To me, it unfolds through all three. It starts up front with B12, then builds and builds into Michter's, then the finish is warmth and the light flavors of Tomatin. If anybody cares to try it (or if Daniel and/or Rex want to give it a go), it might be worth looking into, as it is an interesting blend for sure and alone, all 3 are great by themselves.

Personally, I like that. I like when a producer finds their profile and then they try different things...putting their signature on their various release styles.

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  6 лет назад +1

Bourbon has no minimum age statement. According to federal regulations, it only needs to be "aged in charred new oak". Which means, in theory, you could pour it into a charred new oak bucket, and 10 minutes later put it in a bottle and call it "bourbon".
Straight Bourbon has the minimum 2yr requirement, and "bottled in bond" is the 4 yr minimum.
