The creepy children stories are the reason I get creeped out at work. Everyone is brave until the toddler bolts upright and just stares at you before saying 'I love *unintelligible babbling*' before a random toy starts to make noise and the kid just lays back down.
Surely there is some other influence on his mind than a goddam headache to make him change from a normal dude to: “Yeah Ima live in a cave the rest of my life eating dead corpses with people I’ve hardly met”.
It seems implied that he's under some sort of hypnosis. There were also a lotta cult-ish vibes between how charismatic Doug was with the cops and the way the MC was ostracized & punished every time he called attention to/tried to put a stop to the weirdness, & manipulation like that can unfortunately be a heckuva drug *without* the addition of hypnosis.

Worst ending ever. It made no sense for the character, it's like he was transplanted with someone completely different. No final clash with the guy he had been chasing, building up a final meeting for. I feel like the author started writing the first bit, without having any idea how it would end, and maybe rushed the ending...
That's the sad thing about most of these. It's like somebody starts off with a great idea, builds it up for ages, then when things start unfolding they just end the story. This one had such potential. I was like "oh great, another ghost girl in an asylum, how original." But then it was a real girl and there was a murderer on the loose in there, and I was excited. Are they real? Is the guy imagining it? Then in about 2 paragraphs it went all "sike, mole people, fuck you, the end." It doesn't make sense. No amount of people pleasing will convert a rational person into a cave dweller. No murderous underground cult would let somebody talk about them on the internet. No way nobody would get suspicious. Nor would that place still be open if they had that many escapees. Or condemned buildings. Started out good, then the premise fell to pieces, then the author got lazy. Typical reddit.

I’m really disappointed by the ending, to say the least.

Hearing him not talk about people getting their skills ripped out from their head during the first 2 minutes is really weird.
