    I'm really glad you guys mention the secret stick most RUclipsrs don't mention: if they're not nice, the manufacturers stop sending them products and, like them or not, demoing those products means more channel views. That seems to be what a lot of people don't understand when it's all "He was paid!" vs. "He wasn't paid." It's possible for the companies to put a _lot_ of pressure on a RUclipsr to play nice without paying them.

  • @Birbdup
    @Birbdup 3 года назад +25

    Personally, as a content consumer, it’s rough to see. I’d personally never gig with a guitar from the acoustisonic line, but I understand why someone would like them. I also appreciate that a lot of r&d probably went into the design of them, so Fender has a lot invested and want to see a good return. Appealing to massive creators isn’t a new thing, and given the stakes involved for Fender, it makes sense.
    From the perspective of the content creator, I 100% understand taking the paycheque. Views are down, copyright strikes are rampant, gigs have dried up, and bills stay the same. If I was them, I’d 100% take the cheque and the guitar. It also provides the ability to build a brand relationship with a company that makes other, high quality instruments too. They never have to use the acoustisonic afterwards, and they could even sell it if they wanted to. So no shame on the content creators at all, Im probably just not gonna watch that video.

    • @DavidSmith-ss1cg
      @DavidSmith-ss1cg 3 года назад

      The people who get them should hang onto them and save them, 'cuz they won't get popular and will become future oddities - but worth having, as a curiosity. Even more so if you can get one finished differently. They are the kind that would be good to keep next to the couch, or in the office, or on a stand in the bathroom, so you can grab it if you get an idea.
      They would be great if small numbers of 'em were made to supply a niche market, if Fender was gonna make 'em long-term; but I fear that they won't become an overnight sensation, and so Fender will discontinue them. This is too bad, as they will be JUST what some few types of people will find to be just right for them.
      A few years ago, Budweiser made an ale to try to sell to the US, where people had started accepting the craft beers, and so small breweries came out with all these ales. So Budweiser had their go at it - and when it didn't sell well, they stopped making it - which was too bad; it was OK for an American ale, and kinda tasted sorta "Budweiser." It didn't hit the "Home Run," though, so it disappeared. The acoustic Fender guitar will certainly appeal to the folks that liked the first Acoustasonic but had wanted it to resemble a Strat more than a Telecaster.
      I remember that Roy Clark got an Ovation acoustic when they first appeared, in the 1960s. He strung it with electric guitar strings, so he could practice on airplane flights - and he liked it(although it was Glen Campbell's endorsement that caused a lot of people to give 'em a try). Later on, the US vocal group America made them popular by all 3 playing them - which was a good advertising image, the 3 of them, all with Ovations, including a 12-string.
      This is all Music business stuff, like you've said. The noise will pass soon, and the guitar probably will, too. Which is too bad - it would probably be a worthy mate to the Fender acoustic Tele clone; you know, to have a Strat clone available for the folks who'll prefer for their Fender acoustic guitar to resemble a Strat instead of a Tele. Fortune passes everywhere.

Personally i think its lazy as hell. I really dont get who would want an acoustasonic..Acoustic players are generally more stuck on the classics than electric players {and thats saying something!!} and would never touch something like this on purely aesthetic grounds.. Electric players who want an acoustic sound can either: A. Buy an acoustic Sim pedal.
      Or B. Buy an acoustic guitar.. The only people i see using these guitars and raving about how great they are are the people who are being PAID to be seen playing them and saying how great they are at every given opportunity...People will look back in a couple decades from mow and wonder wtf they were thinking.. Bravo! You guys are killing it. Casino Guitars has read my mind with this video. Around 48 hours ago it became obvious that an embargo had been lifted and Fender said, “Release the hounds!” for videos on guitars that had obviously been in the hands of RUclipsrs for weeks. Frankly, it all leaves me with a funny feeling that I have a hard time putting into words. Analogies fail, but it’s a bit like watching a ridiculous squabble between two people you respect. When it’s over, you find yourself respecting each of them a little bit less than you did and you’re not sure why. You wish you hadn’t seen it, but you can’t unsee it. In this way, the once respected guitar RUclipsr and Fender both lose a little. But when you’re trying to be a fulltime guitar RUclipsr and Fender comes knocking how can you say no? And once you’ve said yes, how can you say anything bad? I mean, folks, this is Fender, right? Beating up on Glarry is easy. Nobody needs Glarry. But Fender … umm, yeah. Which is why I loved the Paul Davids video on this guitar. It’s not just that Paul said he wouldn’t buy it, which takes some courage, it’s more the cool, almost indifferent way he approached the product. It’s almost as if he’s thinking, “Yeah, love ya Fender but I don’t need you and I refuse to bow down.”

    The RUclips guitar channel, retailer, reviewer, influencer, etc. will eventually eat itself.
    There’s way too much of the same shit on all of them, and I don’t think it’s sustainable. Not in large numbers anyway..
    The guitar buying public is no longer in the dark by how it all works and it becomes tedious to wade through the sea of sameness.
    The good ones with strong entertaining and trustworthy content ( such as Casino Guitars) will thrive, but others will get left behind.
    It’s inevitable when saturation occurs, credibility and interest wanes.

Music bis is so mainstream now days with so many consumer "know-it-all's" with the internet. All of this and no place to play. No clubs or venues that pay musician's a paycheck. I remember when even a good Strat copy was not an everyday bedroom decoration. Now everybody is a guitar player that isn't capable of playing. Now everybody is a consumer review person that just buys gear.

    Last time I was in Vegas visiting family you could still smoke on the casino floor.. there were no smoking sections, and even on the casino floors they were supposed to have the no smoking sections extend around the restaurants and whatnot. Things could have changed as I haven’t been since Covid, and I don’t smoke anymore either way… but I’ll admit Vegas is (or was great) to smoke a nice cigar while you’re drinking for “free”.
    I’ll have to ask my family to see if they updated the anti smoking laws. The casinos want people to be able to smoke without having to get up from the machine or table. I seem to recall people (locals) were upset down there when the laws im referencing came into effect.. I remember the smokers in the family complaining, but when I went for a visit as late as 2019 i didn’t notice a difference from all the other visits (except we had to leave the restaurant to spark up after dinner). I was still able to smoke a cigar at the blackjack table, so I may be a simple man but that was enough to keep me happy..

    I skipped on the 5 hour stream where they opened by saying "Fender is the greatest brand" instead of "Fender is our *favorite* brand" since that established disingenuousness immediately.
    Aside from that, I still watch these Acoustasonic streams because of the personality of the people I'm watching, various spicy jams, and seeing everyone have a bit of a difference take on what they care about.
    The Acoustasonic just isn't for me at all, but I was surprised that it could in fact chug alright. So the videos did improve my opinion of it.
    And I had no idea that Fender owned Jackson and Charvel if not for videos one week before.
    It is really interesting to think about how different the relationship is between manufacturers and RUclipsrs/Podcasters/Influencers vs manufacturers and retailers (that are also Podcasters).

    What pisses me off about it is the way that they all drop on the same day and if you're not interested there's no other content for you. I much prefer reviews from people who buy the gear and live with it a bit, particularly when some stuff sounds great at first but gradually proves to have flaws - you don't get that insight when the reviewer is sent something to review and then return. Even though some RUclipsrs make clear that they won't give good reviews for free gear if it's crappy, I feel like they must know that negative reviews will mean less free stuff which means less content that they can produce.

    • @CasinoGuitars
      @CasinoGuitars  3 года назад +1

      Thats a great point and well said! Unfortunately the cycle of RUclips doesn't allow for a patient well thought out review of new gear if you want the clicks...it's a speed game for those who play it.

    I've opted out of all major guitar channels about three years ago, when it became unbearable to see guys without strong ethics advertise, mostly without disclosure. They are the obedient salespeople of the 21st century the companies have waited for. I get totally turned off by aggressive marketing, that's why I haven't bought any Fender guitars in three years. But there are definitely too many 15yo with too much money, who buy every advertised product and get influenced very easily - but even a lot of older ones seem to be very easily led nowadays and lack any critical thinking. I work as a social scientist and data actually shows exactly that - that teenagers in western countries have the most money and opportunities in history, but lack maturity and responsibility more than ever before (at least since the first surveys about 30-40 years ago). And companies are well aware of that, they use data and psychology of the masses, and that's why companies spend more money on advertisement than on quality control. As soon as I see guitars or products pop up on YT-channels, I'm not interested in these anymore at all. I hardly ever write any comments, it doesn't make any difference (aside from helping the video to become more relevant regarding the YT-algorithm...) and no-one reads it.

    • @joebobhenrybob2000
      @joebobhenrybob2000 3 года назад +1

      I read it! The internet was fun for a decade or two. But there's a lot of money out there sloshing around and various corp/gov entities have fully adapted. Geniuses with Phd's in psychology and statistics have worked hard to discover exactly how to take advantage of human nature and the resulting algorithms never sleep. And corp/gov entities have figured out how to fake grassroots trends online and then said hey we can do this in meatspace as well. It seems to have reached a sort of saturation point where people realize it's time to just turn it off. Everything is now "leveraged" for the purpose of something else. You can't trust product reviews on sales websites anymore (maybe some 1 star reviews...) you can't trust music or film awards let alone reviews. You can't try to filter based on low production value even ....how many cheap low production fake grassroots channels can you create? infinite for all intents and purposes. Maybe there's still some merit to seeing which apparent grassroots channels have ongoing efforts to marginalize them, as those would likely be the ones with the least money behind them, but then again there could be 2 monied interests duking it out for all I know.
      So you end up going by word of mouth from people whose content you analyze and evaluate skeptically for yourself - as all systems of reputation/trust-building are leveraged as well. The entire universe of product review turns into sort of a disembodied corrupt 3rd world country that exists on the internet with unseen neo-feudal relationships in a giant criss-crossed web. Cheerful thought eh.

I have experienced this talking with new players; they seem to be more concerned about having the newest pedals than practicing.🙄

Being left handed, with a limited amount of guitars that are even available, I look at it like I need Humbuckers, or the Tele jingle jangle or the Strat tones. My best "Humbuckers" sound is not my Gibson SG or Les Paul Traditional, it is my Epiphone SG 400, heavily customized with Seymore Duncan Hot Rodded Humbuckers and new pots. The only thing Epiphone on it is the Wood and Bridge. My Red Growler.

    I understand that companies have been making commercials since they've existed and youtube and other social media is naturally going to be utilized as well. However, I think there's a big difference between seeing an ad in a print magazine, where it's obvious that you are looking at an advertisement, and coming to youtube and being bombarded with an ad disguised as a video coming from seemingly all the big guitar channels at once.
    Time will tell if this is a winning strategy for the companies but it definitely leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I haven't watched a single video about these guitars and I'll probably keep it that way. I did enjoy you talking about the other people making the ads though, for what it's worth :-)

    I ended up watching maybe 5 videos on the FenderSonicAcoustoJazzer before finally finding out that there was no way to blend an acoustic and electric voice on the guitar, so I wouldn't want one anyway. Apparently you can on the Tele and Strat models, but that took me several videos to find out as well. I'll stick with my old Yamaha AEX500 for now thanks..one humbucker, one piezo, one blend control, nice !

    Most youtubers just echo other youtubers from what I've noticed.

      That does seem to be a consistent thread. Some of the big dogs are putting their own spin on things (Paul, Philip, Rhett, etc.) but there has become an echo chamber lately. Thanks a ton for sharing your thoughts!

    For me this is the signal to start weeding out the channels that only do product review like these. I will put up with payed reviews if there is some original content too, but even the original content gets cloned and transforms into a hype. Klon anyone?

      Right on and we dig that. We actually had a friend build guys a klon clone from a defense contractor that we want to play with online soon!

    After watching you guys I went to videos about the new Acoustasonic Jazzmaster. There were so very many, way too many, that I just had to check out "Will it Chug?" first. If in doubt...

    Acoustasonics aren’t sure whether they’re acoustic or electric guitars.Rather like individuals who aren’t sure whether they’re guitar salesman or RUclips divas!

    It takes a lot for me to get excited about a product these days, pedals included. How many strat, tele, JM, big muff, ts9, klon, memory man, ect clones do we need. Its pretty much only chase bliss and guitars well beyond my price range that I lust after these days.

    It’s time to break the spell of the guitar cartel.. this includes RUclipsrs, turning newbie guitarists into gear heads and not players.

    I didn't see it as propaganda until you said it. My first thought was my ordered American Pro II Jazz bass possibly got delayed in getting made because they had to devote more people and production to another acoustisonic that will be sitting in piles at guitar shops. I'm at week 5 of a 4-8 week estimate and still anxious.

    It’s getting hard to watch now. Every RUclips channel has the same paid advertisement for the same product on the exact same day now. And every other RUclipsr now comments on each other’s videos too.

    Years ago I worked for a major music chain (Camelot Music), that got bought out by another music chain(TransWorld Entertainment FYE), and I had to read about the buyout in Billboard magazine because nobody at corporate told any of the managers of their stores...🙄
