Thank you for checking out the channel .
They don’t get to the pony bc RUclips algorithm likes when u watch full 5 mins video . Instead of watching where the info u is and leaving after . That’s why I try to keep all my videos under 7 mins and straight to the point, thanks for watching again 🙏🏾
I had a 2017 Focus ST that I bought brand new until I traded it in for a new Mustang 3 months ago. In the 3 and a half years I had it I put 83K miles on it and never a single problem. And yes it was modified also.
No way .I’m considering getting a mustang for the channel . Mustang or ss
have had my focus st from 2017-present 55k-134k not a single issue with it its a 2013
Had my 2015 st3 since new, I've had a few minor issues like the stock bov and fuel pump. Other than that she's been a real fun car, I'm older now (bought it at 18) I'm debating on selling it for a gt500.
Mustang. Rocking
@@shainhoon4929 the stock bovs are only rated to last until factory warranty ends so I think it's like 40-50k miles. Either way if you're over that just buy a new blow off valve or a bypass valve. You won't be able to find a stock bpv because they're only sold with the turbo, unless you do some digging on the market. Good luck 👍
I have had my ST for close to 9 years now with 76,000 miles on it. I have had it modified to a stage 3 for 70,000 of those miles. The only problems I have had is my stock strut mounts went bad, My exhaust hangers have broken twice and I blow my intercooler pipes off about every year and a half or so and that is with high tack and T bolt clamps. When the car had around 14,000 miles the high-pressure fuel pump went out but that was replaced under warranty. I also fried out a coil pack trying to back probe it for an RPM signal and shorted it out. It has been a really fun car and it still brings a smile to my face when I drive it. I just found your channel and you earned a subscribe from me.
Knock on wood bro.
Thank you for very much for the sub man . More videos Coming out
Very well done car man! I like it. I just purchased an ST today! Super excited. Found one with only 20k miles at a BMW dealer. Guy traded it for an M3. Sweeeeeetttt.
Thank you and I’m sure u will love it they are fun card
Great video man, getting my purge valve replaced in a couple days
Looking at a all black 16 ST tomorrow, thank you and good job getting straight to the point! You’re underrated and need more subscribers !
Thanks for checking out the channel. I hope u really enjoy ur st man I love mine. Come back for more st content
How many miles did you buy your car with?
did you get it??? I’ve had my 16 for almost a year now and it’s one of my favorites I’ve owned
@@allangreene15ag im looking at a 16 with 81k and they want $16k hopefully it’ll be there in 2 weeks currently not as prepared but definitely have my eyes on it *ps* i dont know how to drive a manual but i really want to own one to learn
I learned how to drive a manual car by buying one and driving it 2 states away from me by my self
I'd like to thank you for your video friend,
I own a focus st and i agree with you about the purge valve. I didn't know it is a common problem but in case people wonder if they have a faulty valve or not. simply, monitor the AFR at cold start, you will notice that AFR drops below 10 especially during summer when temps raise to 40s degree C. Then you know that the purge valve must be replaced. I never saw AFR drop if temps are below 30 degree C!.
Another common problem for focus is low life of radiator cooling fan. the Fan will stop after approx. 5 years (depends on milage) a friend had the issue after 3years only.
One last problem is that car door latch failure. It suddenly won't close the door anymore. I heard that some cars were recalled by the dealer for it. but my car wasn't recalled.
Thank you and
Sorry for the bad language
I didn’t know the fan had that problem thanks for that too .
I am FBO with an E30 tune, never had my charge pipes pop off. Granted with E ,you run lower boost than on a 93 tune. I max out about 22.5psi or so on my tune.
The EGR purge valve recall, make sure you tell the dealer to CHANGE out the parts...they'll try to just do a software update first, thats useless. Im also running the CNT Racing cat-less dp and never had a problem. I sold my defouler to someone else since i never needed it. Guess I'm just lucky lol.
My 2016 is also RaceRed...car looks nice man! Im also doing the red/black theme...running black RPF1's and some aero.
Forgot to mention fuel rail pressure sensor. It’s a common thing to go out on a tuned ST. Already replaced mine at 60k I’m now at 75k BT full bolt ons and upgraded suspension and upgrade stage3+ clutch. Runs perfect still lmao
I’ve replaced my purge valve twice now. I’ve also used warm clamps when installing my first BT which was a CP-e GTX3076r Gen2 Atmospheric kit and never came off but used T-Bolt clamps either way once I got home. And agreed on the bank one sensor. I’ve replaced mine once though. Upgraded to NTK (same brand as NGK which is what we replace our spark plugs for on tuned ST’s) and haven’t had an issue since. Good little bit of info bro.
Good video, and good info. I’ve got 3 Foci… (2) RS’s and an ST. All three have needed a purge valve every 30k miles or so. TRASH! There’s a guy on the forum named GuitarST who sells a modified purge valve setup that looks SWEET and allows you to use cheaper purge valves. Also uses quick couplers so it becomes a 5 min swap, not a 45min affair. I recommend seeking him out and getting the kit. All fittings are solid RaceFlux AN-6 fittings and it’s a solid piece of kit for like $220-ish.
On your intercooler, new mishimoto boots and good clamps will resolve the issue. Real popular issue with us diesel guys with big turbos, a good set of boots installed right usually solves it.
Have a 2013 ST no issues he mentioned but did put better clamps on my CPE intercooler and have catted down pipes.
Knock on wood haha. Thanks for checking out the video
This was a great video but there's a couple things that need clarifying. 1. The purge valve recall did not necessarily replace any parts. Ford inspected the cars to see if there was any deformation. If not, the ECU was updated to catch if the purge valve was stuck open. I had the recall done and they just flashed the ECU. 2. You shouldn't need to replace your O2 sensor if it's your downstream O2 sensor (after the cat). That sensor is just checking that the cat is functioning like OEM (which any catted downpipe likely won't work). However the upstream O2 sensor before the cat is important for a functioning engine. Save some money and either ignore that CEL if P0420 or contact your tuner to remove that. That's what I did.
Thanks for the correction
idk if thats 100% true since the o2 sensor after the cat detects how rich or lean you’re burning and makes corrections to the fueling no?
@@divindeep That's correct, it also trims fuel bias to account for catalyst build variation and degradation.
You're videos are very helpful Rogee
Thank you bro I’m trying man to help everyone while I learn
I would also mention the check engine light for cold start misfires. This is super common on these cars even with low low mileage. My first check engine light came at 5,500 miles. This one is a bit trickier to treat because you really need to get it into the dealer. There is a TSB out for it, and it DOES fix the problem, but the catch is you need to be on a stock map. The gap it calls for in the spark plugs won’t fly with a modded engine if you are making more power. My 2 cents.
I never got a check engine no way 5,500 miles with a check engine holly shit
@@Duraguy There is a 350pg thread on focusst.org forums with people who had these. Some even got it days after they bought the car new
Which means it’s a common problem I will have to look into it
@K Cav from my research it’s mainly on the 14-15.
@@trumpetplyrmatt I have a ‘16 and had it bad
Nice video, going to look at some st’s this weekend very helpful🙏
Hell yeah man come back for some more videos bro . I’m glad that helped u man
You have to ask yourself if you want to start off with a stock st or an st that someone has already modded?
Thanks bro useful video looking at these myself 👍
Thank you
If worried about rear O2 sensors going bad or reading out of spec on an aftermarket downpipe, look into getting an e-tune. (I recommend JST Performance) It will bring a whole new life to the car and is VERY much worth the money. The rear O2 is only used for emissions readings and can be turned off by your tuner. The pre-catt O2 sensor reads your AFR's.
I have a tune and I’m tuned by Alan from edge auto . It’s just a common problem with the catted downpipe
I’m looking at getting a 2018 focus st. It seems to be completely stock and has 59,000. I really like the car and the want to get it I plan on leaving it stock. The only reason I am apprehensive about it is I need the car to last me at least 5 years after purchasing without having to do any major repairs.
Like I tell everyone if you keep a car stock and don’t start buying go fast parts the car will last for years.
Is the sel worth it? Found one with 38k miles for only 9k
car is clean bro thank you for the video
Thanks bro I’m glad u enjoyed it 🙏🏾🙏🏾
where did you get your rims from?
115000 miles on a 2017 focus st. Bought it brand new. Biggest issue I had was the purge valve at around 90000 miles. Check engine light came in during that experience. Also I had to get spark plugs at around 70000 miles. A little early
Yeah the purge valve is a big thing with focus st and rs
Should be replacing spark plugs about every 15-20k miles.
Full bolt ons for over a year and have never had any of these problems..
Knock on wood
What is the front splitter!!
Whats with the ankle chopper at the front ?
you have a dope build Mr. Du
Appreciate it man. I like that Mr. Du
2017 with 24k miles on it starting to burn oil under high boost. Only mod was cobb catted downpipe with O2 J-tube, and cobb cat back exhaust. Probably trade it in get something else still making good power maybe oil isn't coming from the rings could be the turbo likely the piston rings.
Make sure the car is tuned
Good video. But intercooler issue is bc of lack of installation. I installed mine with no issues whatsoever. Some people just don’t tighten them properly.
Yes u are right
In my 18 FoSt with now 18k miles bought at 16k miles I've replaced the wide band o2 sensor twice, purge solenoid and am on my 3rd head gasket. It's now going to be oringed to hopefully help it. Also needs to be mentioned it makes 503whp and 510wtrq and is far from stock. 2.3 stroker stage 2 cams and springs g24-660 turbo 5" intercooler lsd diff and built trans. 30lbs boost full e85 with aux port injection.
sheeee 503 WHP on a FWD car is crazy bro. u might as well RS drive swap it.
@@Duraguy if it wasn't expensive and hard to do I would. It's already the same liters as a rs
Fun car. I just picked up a modified st a few days ago. I'm still trying to find out what has been done to it before getting a tune.
Take a look under it and also u will know when a car is tunned . How fast the turbo kicks in
@@Duraguy I have the Cobb Accessport that came with the car. Only has the Cobb tunes so I paid for a Stratified tune. Their stock progressive crackle tune is already a noticeable improvement over the cobb stage 2 tune. Smiles for miles 😂
Worse problem I had was my after market sway bar link. But it was an easy fix. 2014 st3 with 100k miles and that's the only prob I've had.
Same
2015 focus, full bolt ons besides downpipe. Has intercooler, all the intake piping, hks bov, ported throttle body and a awe track exhaust. Bought a tuner and a tune, was about to add catless downpipe and my stock turbo just blew at 40k miles
No way . Are u going aftermarket or stock . I have a stock turbo
@@Duraguy just happened in the last few days but I just figured it out a couple of hours ago. I have more digging to do to be completely sure it's the turbo but I'm pretty sure. A couple of days ago some buddies at work said there was a puff of black smoke when I started it, then last night my cpe charge pipe between the intercooler and throttle body blew off and had oil around it, the hks bov is leaking oil so I disconnected the pipe from the intercooler and oil spilled all over my face lol. My catch can in between the crank case and manifold is full of water too.... Not red like the coolant, completely clear, haven't drained it all the way yet, guessing theres oil at the top of it too. I'm really hoping it's just the turbo, and I'll replace it with a bigger one. If it's the engine I'm just gonna find an engine to drop in It
@@sategllib2191 🤞🏾. If it’s the motor pick up an escape motor
@@Duraguy I'll probably do something like that, would like to get a pop and drop kit so the engine can handle 600+ when I can get a bigger turbo. Might as well plan for the future since it's broken 😅 Going to try building it myself if it comes to that
Hell yeah
what size tbolt clamps did you buy exactly so i can purcahse some for my intercooler?
Buy something for 2.5 inch pipes
good shit bro im gunna get some cash off one for this
NICE BUILD!!!!
Thanks man
Thank you thank you thank you!
You are so welcome!
Hi. Do you recommend one 2017 used with 30,000 km?. I love it.
They all have the same engine but u will be fine with any st they are more reliable than an rs
I have a small favor to ask that means the world to me. My car needs fixing, and I was hoping you might be able to help. Your expertise would make a huge difference, and I would be incredibly grateful.
Hit me on instagram man @_toyse
Do the gearboxes handle much abuse?
Hiw much power can they hold , if your not dumping the clutch hard?
I heard they can hold up to 500
intercooler pipes wont blow off if the rubber boots are oil free... brake clean and a rag then put them back together
Nice vid. This doesn't mention any of the issues my friends focus has. He is struggling with a fuel pump issue
Usually the fuel pump issues are just a sensor man i had similar issue with my fuel pump
What happens if your purge valve is not working correctly, my car sometimes when I go to crank it , it want crank it makes a noise then I press to crank again and it cranks. Could it be the purge valve?
yes that what happens or it will happen when u over fill the tank too. u need to change the purge valve. Go to ford and see if they did ur warranty yet and if not just order u one . Here is a link for one ( www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=10617624&cc=3353560&jsn=1662 )
@@Duraguy i have changed one before but like its weird no check engine lights and the car runs flawless and it honestly sounds like the starter turns but doesn't engage, which could be a starter going out is what I assume.
How fast was shipping on your diffuser and was the install easy?
shipping was a week and the install wasn't the easy. there is a little fitment issue but nothing huge
what rear valance is that? my stock one was destroyed by prev owner and have been looking into buying something aftermarket as a replacement.
That’s maxton design
@@Duraguy man i wasnt even finished with the video and already got a response haha, thank you man i appreciate it alot!
Haha thanks for checking out my video man .
Hey man, super informative video. Do you have an instagram or somewhere where I can ask a few questions about your splitter? I’m looking to make a functional one and am curious on how it is mounted. Thanks!

i just watched a bunch of videos on your channel
@@Duraguy Thanks! I watched several of yours a few weeks back. Really well put together videos and love your build!
I hope you still around I thinking about buying a use Ford focus 2015 with 85k miles the car was on a accident and the front got hit in the front, I don’t know if I should buy it 😩
Get someone to give u an estimate how much it would cost to fix and base ur decision on it man
@@Duraguy it’s my cousin he’s a mechanic he said he would sell it to me around 7.5k to 9k you think that’s a good price? He bought on auction
Stupid question. For a ST that isn't modded or tuned.. Straight premium or unleaded with a bottle of octane booster at each fill up? 🤔
U are wasting ur money bro bc u are not tuned . I would get tune for that . The manual calls for 91 or high so u not hurting anything but there is no performance gain
@@Duraguy 1.25 plus tax for a small bottle of octane booster. Thanks though! 🤙
I own 2018 focus rs 4 battery replacement also back lights any solutions before I am trade
There is a fuse that’s causing it
They have checked all fuses and codes there telling me. Rewiring whole car is needed. Plus a month they will have it any other ideas thanks
What your exhaust set up ? Sounds good
catted downpipe, and roushe cat back. thanks bro
For catless downpipes get the code turned off in a tune.
Why the hell to tune the car that is allready beeing tuned from factory? It is beatiful as it is and has just enough power. Who needs more better go for an Rs rather than tune St and get long term issues.
so these problems only occur on modded cars, not stock?
moded cars. once u start to push a certain psi u will face this. but with the purge valve there is a recall on it
Good info
That’s not normal bro . Holly shit is this ur first motor or u in ur second ONE ?
Haven't had any of those issues, and my ST is heavily moded.
Lucky. Is ur car modded
@@Duraguy It is.
Whoa.. where did you get that rear bumper?
That’s maxton design rear bumper
What exhaust are you running?
Roush exhaust and catted downpipe
When u say intercooler pipe, would that be emptying my water/radiator tank/bottle
No the pipes that connects to the turbo and goes to the front of the bumper. not the radiator

How do you fix Eco Boom??

Not to mention the 1inch hole that sardine cans 4 cylinders worth of exhaust gas. Head gasket anyone? Any takers? Maybe a cracked head. Anyone?
Bro where did you get that lip I like it
That’s the bmspec front splitter. I might be selling that soon
Suggestion, look into whatever ‘Video Stabilization’ your editing software has. It slightly crops the video to correct for the shakiness.
sick video though, fellow red gang
Thank you very much for the heads up man . I use final cut prop and it sucks man I’m planning on going back to Adobe
Hey man these common issues includes 2018?
Yes sir. They are not really expensive to fix tbh
I'm on purge valve number 3 at 83k
Use 3m 90 adhesive. Hasnt popped in years
Good vid
Thanks man
Oky these are minor mechanical issues so what are the major mechanical issues that you can encounter in an St1
Obviously the engine
Hey did that rs rear diffuser come painted or did you have the rest painted around the black? Im only finding all black ones and i want one thats same color as my car other than the black part around the exhaust
That’s not an rs diffuser . This is maxton design and it comes gloss black and u can paint it
@@Duraguy yeah thats the site i checked out. No i mean rs style for the st bc i know it still allows for stock exhaust location.

I wanna go for a spin 🏎
Let’s make it happen
Mine came with a loose injector off the lot lol. Right at 1,000 miles on the dot. 😅
Wtf, that dealer never inspected that car when they got it 😲
I guess not, I limped it to the dealership and they fixed it. So I can’t complain to much
You're not lying about the O2 sensor, mine has 54k miles and I already have a CEL coming back with P0420 for low catalytic efficiency bank 1. I'll be checking it out tomorrow to see what the previous owner has in it.
Make sure u buy the oem one don’t go after market . Anytime u got aftermarket downpipes or castles u face this problem
@@Duraguy thank you for that, I think Ford really did their research and didn't want us modifying these cars too much on stock turbo. So far I know it's got an aftermarket intercooler, and straight piped with flow masters but don't know about the cat situation under there. I'll take a look at the cooler tubes, clamps ,and look at whole exhaust while it's on the lift. I'm also going to be putting on the e-focus rear motor mount.
Check and see if u have catted downpipes or catless . And it it’s catless then u can get a blocker
@@Duraguy will do! Thanks man. Subscribed!
Appreciate u checking out the channel bro
👍
It's funny, the only two issues I ever had owning an ST for 20k miles was the o2 sensors and charge pipes. Both pretty minor but annoying lol
If u put an o2 sensor spacer in you will not harm the o2
No u will not harm it . But if u have a catted downpipe there’s no point for the spacer
Shit you’re not from Pennsylvania are you? I swear I’ve seen you with a female passenger nd we had a nice little cruise and as I took my exit yall waved a GoPro I was in a white ST with Bronze wheels 👀👀
You plowing snow with that splitter? Gee 😂
Haha I might have done it
Clean car.
Oh yeah, and the motors go boom. Just kidding lol take care of it and you should be fine
Damn bro I got scared :(
Haha 😂 don’t be
@@lawnmower6591 na these cars are stupidly durable and can handle ALOT of abuse before they go boom
Rumor has it: ST3 audience were for Michigan drivers lol
that might be true bc I never see st3 where I live
Why??? the front lip skirt that Doesn’t even come close to fitting the car lol
It mounted pretty good
When will people stop buying other people’s modded cars 😂 do your own build and you don’t have to worry about someone else’s fuck ups
Hahah. But sometimes it’s cheaper to buy a moded car
The most common mechanical problem is... running a cobb ots tune.
That’s one of them . A huge one matter of fact
thanks for watching the video man
@@Duraguy of course bud. I just subbed
This is a sign to take mine off I guess
@@dominicesposito9744 yes.. Take this as a sign and go get a JST tune (if you're in America)
That’s an st2 not an st1 just saying
St1
This exhaust screams Euro
hahah
🐈 🐈⬛ in da pipe 😱
I want to go loud but I do a lot of highway driving
If these are the extent of your issue, you do not have issues. None of these are even really problems.
I consider this a reliable modded car if that is the case.
1. Purge valves go bad commonly on alot of cars.
2. Charge pipes blow off turbo cars alot when the piping has been messed with. It is more so the design of the piping compared to how the intercooler is mounted. Bead welding the pipes, or tbolt clamps help alot, but proper angle of the piping into the intercooler is the real fix.
3. 02 sensors going bad , I would look at your tune and where the sensor is mounted if on an aftermarket pipe. The wrong angle will cause water to drain back into them. Them stupid crackle tunes do not help keeping them working either.
I as well as many others have made 1kwhp+ on sensors and had them last longer than you are. Not a huge deal, but something to check out.
I'm not axin anyone!! I ask them though!!
?
pro tip if it's bank 1 sensor 2 o2 sensor goes out just don't put another one in it will run fine
why didnt u just buy an rs u have the rs front brakes by the loo of it and the secondary and primary intake from the rs
The intake is a mountune intake for the focus st. The only thing that is an rs part is the brakes. That’s bc I’m big turbo
dude im so sorry but this front splitter is atrocious
This was made for the track
