LORE - Portal Lore in a Minute!
In the year 1947 Aperture Science Enrichment Center was created to make shower curtains for the US Military. The owner, Cave Johnson, fell ill thanks to his secret production of a Conversion Gel made from Lunar rocks prompting him to produce a three-tiered research program to ensure the longevity of his company. First, The Heimlich Counter-Maneuver. Second, The Take-A-Wish Foundation and third, The Portal Project which included the making of the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device. The latter was endlessly funded by the Senate and Johnson went on to... well, die.
Fast forward many years later when an AI research assistant known as "Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System" - aka GLaDOS - is activated on the Enrichment Center's first Bring Your Daughter To Work day. After releasing a neuro-toxin, locking everyone inside and taking over the facility, GLaDOS is equipped with a morality core to keep her dickish impulses in line. The morality core is a failure, shock. and thus, the Aperture Test Chambers were created for GLaDOS's enjoyment.
The remaining employees were forced to further develop and test the Portal Project using the nifty portal guns. It's unknown how long those poor souls lasted in the nearly abandoned Enrichment Center but eventually GLaDOS finds herself with only one test subject left, Chell, who GLaDOS wakes up from her stasis bed. GLaDOS tells Chell she's trapped in the Enrichment Center and must make her way through the test chambers...and so, the adventure that is Portal BEGINS!

Chel was not the last remaining test subject, there was over 1000 other subjects, of which she was the least desired. Rat man changed her listing in hopes Chel would be able to defeat GLaDOS.

yeah but we only find that out in the portal 2 rat dens and comics. I think this was done on portal 1, but still, there's nothing in the first one that says she's the last test subject, they shouldn't have just assumed
George Lee Exactly. If they're gonna do "Lore" they gotta actually get it right. Plus in portal 1 during the nourotoxin P-Body and Atlas aren't there. Unless they're there just for effect in the vid.
MrCatDoesGames Ya. How did Atlas and P-Body get in when they were made by taking (during when Chell was trying to leave) a broken personality core and a working/non working turret. They were mainly made to do a couple of 'different' test chambers and to prove to Chell that she (GLaDOS) was the master there.

@daniel strong Caroline, Cave Johnson's PA. Iirc: Cave was supposed to be put into the AI to save his life, after he got sick from moon rocks but died before then and one of his wishes was to have Caroline take is place and run aperture. It's explained in the second game, after you've fallen into the old aperture labs, ~an hour into the game

Caroline's conscience was transfered into glados but it wasn't actually Caroline, she lost all her humanity (she killed all the scientist of aperture, which is why Chell (you) is the only person) (the Caroline you get to know in the second game is absolutely wonderful and adorable, in a less murderous way than glados is - they have two distinct personalities). At the end of the first game you disable glados. At the start of the second you turn her back on. Wheatley (a new character in 2) helps you to disable her again in the second and turns glados into a potato-powered version of herself (still glados, though). At the end of the second glados deletes/kills (at least, apparently) what is left of Carolines conscience before setting Chell free. Sorry, that was quite a bit but this is my favorite game for, in part, this reason ^ THE STORY IS AMAZING 😂

the AI is basically the bots from tf2 its just a bunch of code learning things like how to walk how to headshot in 0,00000003 pico seconds and stuff like that and when Carline's conscience was put on the .... the..... the components that glados has to store stuff tbh i wanted to say hardrives but im sure glados doessnt use hardrives so all the stuff from caroline's brain was transferd to the thingys

+Brayan Yepez Exactly, it prevented GLaDOS from deploying the neurotoxin, which is precisely what she tried when the core was incinerated.
It kept her from murdering people outright, it didn't do much else.

Malcolm Well, the result was the same either way, death, but after the morality core was installed it was death by science instead of just death.
Allen McFine If the morality core were not installed on GLADOS at all, the game would end right at the start, so I think that's a pretty big difference. The morality core didn't exactly change the nature of GLADOS, but it did alter it enough to stop from killing you outright. So it definitely did work in some way, although didn't achieve the perfect result.
You made several mistakes. For example the portal gun was around LONG before Cave Johnson fell ill.
Yeah like seriously one of the direct results of the ground up moon rocks was cave discovering they made an excellent portal conductor. Also you leave out Glados being cave's female assistant Caroline who after cave's death was uploaded into a computer, ie Glados.
And in the very early days when the portal gun existed, during the tests, test subjects wre shredded to death while passing through portals, because they didnt have the material for safe teleporting back in 1954 or something
@Gamer Boy yeah, I believe a safety feature to eject anything inside the portals was added in the ASHHPD (Aperture Science Hand-Held Portal Device), and ASDPD (Aperture Science Dual Portal Device), that wasn’t in the early ASIQTD (Aperture Science Innovators Quantum Tunneling Device).
The video was made with lore established before Portal 1 was released, wasn't it?

Actually, the Morality Core worked just fine. She could no longer do anything that was outside testing protocols.
Of course, given that Aperture Science testing protocols routinely violate normal morality, this was a bit of a slap on the wrist -- she just had to reclassify everyone as test subjects and test them to death, rather than using neurotoxin again. (After all, the neurotoxin wasn't experimental.)

@@wta1518 yo it's crazy that nobody's made a more comprehensive timeline about aperture labs they have such a deep history buried underground that you can track and get voice bites with insights into the company around that time.
Portal 2 in a nutchell:(long gasp)
Cave Johnson made Aperture Science and Aperture made the Portal gun. Portals works best on Moonrock, so they grind it up and use it as a portal surface. Cave gets Moonrock poisoning and tries to cheat death by uploading himself into a computer. Cave realized he'll die before the computer is finished, so he forces Caroline into it instead. Computer gets activated, goes nuts and kills everyone, computer tests person, person finds out computer is bad, person blows up computer. Person gets pulled back Ito Aperture, gets put to sleep for a long time, gets woken up b moron. Later computer gets activated, gets replaced by moron who puts her in potato. Person falls down pit with potato, potato goes through emotional arc and finds out it was Caroline, goes to surface with human, human beats moron, potato gets put back in computer, computer lets person go, the end.
This comment is far more accurate than this video.

After computer kills everyone there was actually a guy who survived. Guy has mental issues and knew computer would go nots and kill everyone. Guy thinks Cube with heart on it can talk and listens to its advice. Guy does some stuff on a computer and sets person to get woken up. Guy makes graffiti to help person. Person blows up computer and escapes and gets pulled back into Aperture. Guy saves person from sleep machine thing and probably dies.

alright, what most people don't realize is that GLADOS flooded the labs with neurotoxin twice. The first time ended in the morality core being added, the second was on bring your daughter to work day. (during portal 2 you can find a potato battery project with chell's name on it, and writing suggesting that cave johnson may have still been alive during that event, the first incident is referenced in the lab rat comic, and her in game statement, the second time she tricked a researcher to giver her the neurotoxin for a demonstration of Schrodinger's Cat) According to the Lab Rat comics Chell wasn't even supposed to test at all, but doug ratman put her first on the list, so at the begining of the first portal there were still hundreds of living test subjects. However, with the shut down of glados at the end of the first portal the life support systems went offline, with doug ratman diverting just enough backup power to keep chell alive. Chell then spent a very long amount of time in stasis until being woken up by wheatley at the begining of the second game, and wheatley informing chell that she was the only remaining test subject, and that she may or may not be suffering from brain damage.
You got SO much wrong. I mean FFS, Chell is literally the FIRST test subject (because Rattman, who you didn't mention at all, moved her there. That's the point.)

Lore in a Minute videos rarely ever give the full story. It's more like "backstory before the game began that you'll find out on your own in a minute". They never seem to give any details after the start of a game.
Look at their "MGS Lore in a Minute" video, for example. They literally just give you some backstory up until (including MGS3, MG1, MG2) MGS1, then that's it.
Of course, in their defense for that one, it's a LOT of stuff to cover. It's not really possible.
The test chambers weren't created by Glados though, and certainly not FOR her. They were created a long time before and she was created for them, to monitor the tests, which went on for an unknown amount of time before the the neurotoxin attack that happened just prior to P1. That attack had literally just been cleared up when Chell woke up

All the test chambers in P1 have viewing rooms... for humans. Regardless of the fact she can create them, this video insinuates there was no testing before glados, there was.

She did build the tests in P2 though, after most of the older ones were destroyed.
You also forgot the part when Rattmann is about to run away with Chell, but sees the "party escort robot" and has to hide. And Chell wasn't even the last subject. While Rattmann was looking through the test subject's files, he found Chell's information: Very stubborn, never gives up. DO NOT TEST.

The portal device was already in developent since the 60s in the portal lore.
In the old aperture test chambers they warn you not to enter the tests without it.
this was wrong at so many times. 1. the test chambers were not for GLaDOS they were for the portal gun.
2. chell was not the only one left she was place first in the test subject order by Rattman who believed chill could take down GLaDOS

I'm honestly surprised there isn't more dislikes from how much they got wrong on this. They completely glanced over Portal 2 which had been out for almost a year when this video was released.

Chell isn't necessarily the ONLY one left, and there is a combination of the original plot, and the REAL plot.

In the co-op campaign after the solo campaign, GLaDOS uses Atlas and P-Body to give GLaDOS access to an entire vault of cryostasis human test subjects

Well, GlaDos does say outright during the final boss fight in the first game that the morality core was put on her after she flooded the labs with neurotoxin to make her stop flooding the labs with neurotoxin.
Also, "the test chambers were created for glados's enjoyment" is false, cave Johnson ran tests and in portal 2 when Wheatley is building up a resistance to the euphoria of a test subject completing a test, she mentions that the only way she got through it was that quote glados "I was in it for the science"
That is true because here is GLaDOS's exact quote from the final boss fight:
"Good news. I just found out what that thing you just incinerated did. It was a morality core they installed after I flooded the enrichment center with a deadly neurotoxin to make me stop flooding the enrichment center with a deadly neurotoxin."

Actually...
1. Cave Johnson had an assistant named Caroline, who he may or may not have been romantically connected to. Caroline was forced to become GLaDOS after it became impossible for Cave to take the position and resented him, which is why she released deadly neurotoxin.
2. The Morality Core was a success, but was removed by Chell when GLaDOS tricked her to do so at the end of Portal. This core disabled neurotoxin and rocket launchers, which eventually did her in.
3. A schizophrenic survivor, Doug Rattmann, is the only scientist to survive testing and hid himself within Aperture. When basically everyone was dead he realized he needed an escape and moved Chell from position #1--- to #1, as she was the most rebellious test subject and could actually take down GLaDOS. She was in no way the final test subject standing.
4. You completely missed Portal 2.
Caroline was not in a relationship with Cave. She was married; to science!

Almost entirely Incorrect -
In playing through portal 2 even at early subterranean levels you are required to have a portal device a 'quantum tunneling device' I believe it is called on the posters. Therefore the portal device was created before Cave got sick. (Portal 2)
The test chambers were not created for Glados' enjoyment. Test chambers existed before she was even created, at first Aperature was paying Astronauts, Olympians, and war heroes. Budget cuts and company funding shortages changed this to testing on homeless people. And then finally mandatory employee testing. All of that was under Cave Johnsons leadership. (Portal 2)
After Glados was created she had a hard coded need to continue testing. (Portal 2)
Chel was moved to the Top of the testing list by Doug (online portal Comic)
However after chel first defeated Glados the life support systems failed, killing most of the imprisoned test subjects. Again Chel was saved by Doug's actions (Online Portal comic)
I love how, despite the channel literally going offline 4 years ago, people are still complaining as if someone is reading any of these comments lol

Nice try but I recommend you to do some research before making a video like this. The amount of mistakes you had in this video is unforgivable. If someone that knew nothing about portal watched you video, they will only be given the wrong knowledge about the portal universe.

It's actually shown in the Lab Rat comics that Chell was pushed up the list to be the next one awake. So I'm sure many others survived.

@@wta1518 also, I believe GLaDOS deployed the neurotoxins to kill the scientists AFTER they installed the morality core on her and foolishly allowed her access to a limited amount of neurotoxins

The rest of the scientists were probably either put into relaxation or died of starvation, as GLaDOS put the entire facility in lockdown.

Glados had to test because "the itch" as explained in Portal 2 by Wheatley. Which is another big part, the cores, you didn't mention them at all besides the morality core. Also, there was human testing before Glados came along, in Portal 2 you have to go through a series of tests created by Cave Johnson and his men specifically made for humans.

Well, actually, the portal testing started before he fell ill. In portal 2 there are sections of old aperture where cave is perfectly healthy and only in the last part (After pump station Gamma) he says he is ill

@@quirkalurk2491 No you can't. It is pronounced Chell as in Charlie. Download GCFScape, navigate to Steam\steamapps\common\Portal 2\portal2\pak01_dir.vpk (open it with GCFScape), then navigate to root\sound\vo\glados\evilagainsamples01.wav within pak01_dir.vpk. At the end, GLaDOS says Chell's name.

This was way too shallow for the Portal series. It doesn't even mention Black Mesa from Half-Life, how that ties in to it all. The original storyline, not to mention ratman, I can go on.

This is astonishingly ill researched, considering portal 2 and the lab rat comics came out April the previous year.

Haley Mosher It can be pronounced Gladɪs, how you would pronounce Gladys, or Gladɒs or Gladoʊs, how you would pronounce DOS as an acronym. It is usually pronounced as some form of "Gladys", though, as that's what the name is based on.

The test subjects weren't employees because all the employees where killed by neurotoxin. Cave didn't start the portal project *after* getting sick, he got sick *because* of the portal project. Chell wasn't the last test subject, Doug Rattmann put her at the top of the list. She was like, 2000th in line. (She wasn't even going to be tested, because of her personality).
Just make this to correct this little mess
Atlas and pbody were created AFTER the events of portal 1, glados or potados even says this after Wheatley mentions the cooperative testing initiative
