Chuck wanted to beat Mike bad!
After an 18 game winning streak, The Bulls had lost in Denver a couple nights before. But this was the 72-win Bulls! They couldnt lose 2 in a row.. And they definitely wouldnt lose against a sub .500 Phoenix Suns team.. Could they??

WOW!!! I actually remember watching this game live when I was a kid. Charles Barkley was & always will be my favorite player and I can remember how awesome this was when they beat the Bulls that night since they were damn near unbeatable that season.
I especially remember the steal Chuck had @ the end to seal it. I was jumping around my living room the same way he was after the dunk as I watched with my dad. I was 11 yrs old. Always fun to revisit childhood on youtube.
    thanks baldheadkid

I always loved those Suns jerseys.
Jordan, Barkley, Pip, KJ... lot's of greatness, lots of emotions. I had mad respect for them back then.

I've been looking for this footage of Barkley's monster dunk and celebration for 15 years. I remember I intended to tape this game but took a nap and forgot to start the VCR and just watched it from the 2nd quarter till the end. Man if only I knew what that game wouldve been like. Totally awesome upload, thanks a million.

i am amazed how fast MJ was at 1996, especially he got the motivation from playing against barkerly. He will evaluate his game.

It was indeed the only time all year the Bulls lost 2 consecutive games, just amazing. After this loss they reeled of winning streaks of 7,6,6,6 and 5, if that's not consistantly dominant i don't what is. They actually had 9 different winning streaks of 5 games or more that season, i believe the Bulls did it 8 more times in the following season when they won 69 games. Imagine in a 2 year period you win 5 games in a row or more 17 times, that's just incredible.

People say Barkley didn't play defense yet he got a lot of steals and drops 30 pts on Rodman who was a great defender.

I believe that was the only losing streak that the Bulls had that entire 1996 season (they had a 18-game winning streak snapped in Denver and then lost this game before winning the following game at Golden State). Barkley was actually mad at the Denver Nuggets because HE wanted to end the Bulls winning streak. LOL.

That is because this game was a big rivalry matchup for this time in NBA history, especially since the bulls only defeated the suns in the finals two years prior. This is the period in the NBA where there were a lot of awesome rivalries because teams traded less, chemistry was better, and lots of intense battles between team's that had their core players maintained for several seasons. Made for much better viewing than today's lamer brand of Bball

The NBA is garbage now. The players don't respect the sport. 84'-96' will go down as the golden era of the NBA as a whole.

This is the real NBA. Today's NBA should be renamed AND1 Hoops Entertainment because that's what it is right now: (AND1) because it's all Style and Zero Substance, (Hoops) because it's basketball without the Individual and Team basketball fundamentals and lastly (Entertainment) because it has turned to something similar to WWE, not to mention ESPN is blatantly scripted and biased.

@ry3304 Jordan marked a great all-around player on both ends of the floor. Barkley proved more dominant on the glass, but he also constituted more of a ball-stopper and his defense proved inconsistent at best.

And I watched this game, or at least I watched the stretch drive, at the time in 1996, but that was sixteen years ago and I was only fifteen then.

i agree. it is almost like a joke just to see how happy they are. kind of reminds me of reggie winning shot in the playoff a little bit. by the way i couldnt stand elliot perry a lot. that guy's style is hideous.
and that footrace at 2:48 is amazing. first the tip was hard and the ball is flying far fast, mj just accelerates in less than a second and ran pass the two guys and catch up with the ball, and still be is able to maintain his balance after the quick braking at the end and attempt.

... yes and no. Kukoc scored 18 points in 29 minutes off the bench (with 5 assists and 4 steals, plus just 1 turnover), but he needed 19 field goal attempts to score those 18 points and he shot 0-4 on threes.
I watched this game last November and I remember Kukoc scoring at will for one stretch in the first half, mainly because the Suns were attempting to guard him one-on-one with older, slower forwards such as Wayman Tisdale and A.C. Green. I guess that Phoenix made an adjustment thereafter.

i was always amused watching these mortal teams celebrate like they just won a Gold Medal when they beat the Bulls. funny how a minor hiccup for History's Greatest Team will turn into a story that other guys will tell their great grandchildren.
