It's scary but telling that communism/juche/central planning has failed as shown by the fact that Chicago has more authentic Korean food than the entirety of North Korea (with the few exceptions for the Dear Leader and arranged tour guides).

I live in Chicago area all my life. Chicago has a lot of Korean restaurants because Chicago has a lot of Koreans living here. The Koreans seem to concentrate themselves into their own neighborhoods, like in Glenview and Northbrook and on Milwaukee Ave/Lake St. I recommend the Korean restaurant Iron Age. It’s has good food, but you have to cook it yourself at your table.

Authentic Korean food is very simple, because they have been poor (as was rest of the world). North Korean food is probably closer to authentic Korean food than what is served even in South Korea let alone Chicago. I mean, mayonnaise in Korean food? WTF?

    • @keahidean4642
      @keahidean4642 3 года назад +3

@@mychevysparkevdidntcatchfi1489 Are you Korean? By what metric are you measuring the authenticity of Korean food? Mayonnaise is simply egg and oil. They have eggs in SK. They have oil in SK. They can blend the two. Also, Korean food is not 'simple'. It may lack the diverse spices found in something like Thai or Indian cuisine, but there's complexity in the way foods are prepared. If anything, I would say North Korean food is even farther from being authentic since they wouldn't always have easy access to some of the ingredients.

We're all here enjoying watching the remaining few heros in this world that can truly make the biggest difference.
First couple minutes--I'm just enjoying the calm narration and the arrival to the restaurant.
I then realize she is in a restaurant she's about to eat a meal.
Duh, I'm sure she experienced this already since her escape to China of course as we all know.
Nope. It didn't matter whether it's been many many years now. I broke out in tears. And then I was overwhelmed because I cannot believe the same woman who was just trying to get a piece of bread here she is enjoying. Is enjoying even justifiable word?
Yeonmi Park, I'm speechless at your existence and your effort to do something about your truly unimaginable circumstance. Through your one self and one body has literally brought the whole world to their knees--your young legacy so far has done more than many presidencies could ever wish---out hearts and mind surrendered the inevitable human condition of pride.

All the guest on your channel seem like wonderful people, like you. You have taught your viewers so many interesting and important things, as well as sad things about the Kim regime. May North Korea find freedom. God bless you.

It's interesting to see how a restaurant in the US does it. I haven't tried a Korean restaurant in the US, but I ate at a Korean BBQ place in Jiamusi, Heilongjiang, China many years ago. It was a fascinating and different kind of experience. The grills at each table weren't gas or electric. Servers brought out deep metal pots filled with hot coals and placed them in holes in the table before replacing the grills on top. I remember we turned small pieces of sliced meat and sweet potatoes on the grill using our chopsticks. I had never seen anything like it. I hope I can go back to visit China someday, and I would also love to visit South Korea.

Dear Yeonmi, I fully appreciate that you are an individual living in a relatively free society and respect that you may choose to promote what ever you choose (including yourself) in the public domain, but this video diverges greatly from the basis on which you started this channel, and for those who had watched your earlier videos, and were about to commit some serious though to those who are struggling in North Korea, it comes as a proverbial slap in the face.
I seriously plead you consider catching a grass hopper, roast it lightly, and while you chew on it consider creating a new channel such as "Yeonmi does Dallas" for content such as in this episode, and reserve this space for the humanistic issues.
Re: the "does Dallas" reference; please ask a Native (American) English speaking friend for a reference to this; I meant it as a sarcastic/ironic comment rather than anything personal; keep up the good work.
    P.S.even the walls have ears,
    And those ear are ringing
Keep your head to the wall,
Inside the Mortar there is talk about ...
Lean your head to the wall
Hear you, hear me, hear who?
Scream you, scream me, scream who?
This can't be happening, this can't!
This can't be happening, this can't!
This can't be happening, this can't!
In the beauty of my home
In the beauty of my home!
    Scream!!!! ... Who????
