I like to use old soil to help build up low spots in my yard. I watch anywhere water might gather when it rains and anytime I have a pot of soil that is no good I dump it there. Takes a little time for grass to fill in, but it works in the long run. Being in Texas mosquitos are a big problem for us, so water gathering anywhere is just breeding ground for them.

I fill the holes in my lawn with old potting mix. I always have chipmunk holes, it’s a very old home with a bit of an up and down lawn, old soil does not go to waste here.

🌿Very interresting and informative video 😊
Bag of Biochar is easy to get in Canada, or at least, here in Québec. I can find it at some plant shops. I’ve been using it in my own soil mix for about 2 years now. It seems to do good for my plants so far 🙃 Before, I was using horticultural charcoal in my mix.

I started watching Growfully With Jenna on RUclips because she gardens in clay soil. She has some really great tips on gardening directly in the clay soil, how to till it, etc.

Did you get Shota's opinion on what they delivered to you as compost? I'm still a little upset about that 😅 and I can't decide what's more impressive - Leo napping on Shota or Shota's arm being immobile for the longest part of the video 😄your dogs are the sweetest 😍

2:06 I think there are several reasons to buy one compost over another, the most important ones being pH level and NPKC balance in relation to either gardening or tropical houseplants, as an acidic pH is important for tropical plants and different plants require different nutrients to thrive, also depending on your gardens natural soil and the fertilizer you plan to use. As for local compost I would also want to know whether it contained any amount of non-renewable materials or possibly non-biodegradable waste.
The best advice I can give is to get a test of your soil for your outside garden so you know what nutrient values you're dealing with. In terms of houseplants or raised beds, read the pH level and combined NPKC value of your soil mixture (minus the oxygen values). Then compare this information to the nutrients of your water and the fertilizer you're going to use, in relation to the requirements of the plants you want.
29:48 The most important difference between Biochar and Activated Charcoal is that Biochar is derived from organic matter, whereas general Activated Charcoal can partly come from non-biomass materials. However you can also get Activated Biochar, activated meaning a process wherein the surface area is greatly increased to allow more adsorption. So Biochar isn't better than Activated Charcoal, it's just more sustainable. But it's primarily made for agricultural use so we probably won't see it in a plant shop any time soon. I mean you can barely get Activated Charcoal anywhere as it is.

Those are definitely some common factors that people look into.
