Great video Wally! I've really enjoyed looking into Bible scholarship for this reason. I came across the 'everlasting punishment' issue not long ago and was blown away by the hubris to just completely alter the Bible for their own doctrine. It's also hilarious how the 144,000 passage just switches between literal and figurative between every sentence lol Old John was playing games

The bible doesn't say anything about making a vow of loyalty to a group of designated men during baptism which the GB men have installed during all JWS baptisms.
To enact loyalty to the GB men of the WTS/JWS you instantly turn yourself in support and share the sins of these false prophet apostates which these men have immersed themselves with and further support their false biblical teachings.
These men have used coercive deceiving tactics which are scriptural apostasy to make other people unrighteous in the eyes of god .

A thing that bothered me was the idea of receiving a blood transfusion is frowned upon by the jw. Blood means life and is holy to them. In my opinion rejecting it means rejecting life. The bible forbids "ingesting" blood, but thats not the same as a transfusion. A transfusion happens in an extremely controlled environment, while ingesting blood means eating or drinking blood.
Yes and my Mom woke-up before they killed her with the "no blood " BS.... They killed her just before the new flashlights 🔦 😳 😪 she could have blood fractions.... Jehovah's witnesses are murderers.
I was with my Mom at the hospital 🏥 when she was in coma. I asked to see the surgeon, doctors, specialists alone 😔 they declined.... They killed her. It's premeditated murder and they where in a conspiracy to do it. You have no idea how much my Mom apologized to me. I was victim of CSA and she told me to shut up, etc... long story short: she was CSA victim too... I hate those murderers acting like if they were good people... nothing is good in that cult 😕 I had more CSA....I had to go more often and for longer period of time every single time.... my clandestine "worldly " friend who knew because she didn't buy the bs I said about all my bruises.... she was 8 years old and big enough to tell the teachers, the director of the school and her dad and mom.... less than 5 minutes... everything was ready/ I would've been her sister... her parents ready to adopt me, etc... we moved to Canada 🇨🇦 in a hurry and I was never allowed to have her letters ✉️ and my mom was burning 🔥 mine too! After decades, my daughter made a fb page and she was the first person to ask friendship to me..... She's in Belgium 🇧🇪 and I am in British Columbia, Canada 🇨🇦.... She traveled to see me in 2018 when we both turned 50 years old... what a 🎁 💝 gift 🎁 ... it was like we were never separated.... my real sister ❤️ 💓 💛 💕
I don't recommend to try to find friends from school to anyone. 1 friend tried and it didn't go well.... Yvette and I, our story is very, very different than everybody else. It can bring very down a person when it doesn't end up so nice.... People can feel of no value at all, and sometimes worse 😕... if they don't search you... just : don't do it 😑. HAVE NO EXPECTATIONS ! I am so glad that I was never dead from my suicides attempts. Just don't do it people , nothing is better than life and I went through hell and back. Try to find help! I am often out of service. Spring time, summer and fall time I am really lot of the time camping 🏕 on a private camp site, in winter, snowmobile paradise is here.... I love being out of cell phone range.. . Out of my little town: we are out of service 2 km away... My cat 🐈 comes camping 🏕 with me ,no leash or collar... he loves ❤️ it. A cat 🐈 that I rescue from a pet-shop... he was too bad, aggressive.... I took him because he would've been killed... 5 families took him and gave him back.... this cat is traveling and camping with me///just saying that we never know what tomorrow will be...🥰🤗😲😉🙂

Iirc there are no comments in the bible about eating human blood, despite the occasional instance of human child sacrifices to BOTH the deities of the polytheistic groups around the Israelites, and the Israelites themselves sacrificing to "Jehovah" aka Yahweh aka the YHWH deity.

The Watchtower’s mode of operation and with much success is to: Teach conjecture and make arguments using loaded language and logical fallacies and deliver it using the Monological Discursive teaching method reserved for Math and Sciences in Academia. I see it as eternal punishment is like you remain dead you don't get resurrected therefore the punishment continues to be eternal and the opposite is everlasting life.
The "waters above the waters" is literal and not just descriptive of the atmosphere, but "God cannot lie" must be figurative because they preach mistakes and errors all the time...

I would say that eternal doesn’t mean it has to last forever. You burn. You die. Dead for eternity. Not burning forever. Just my take :)

Even though I am not nor have even been a Jw I was raised in that cult and my mother n sisters still are, I still read the bible and still used their bible for my own reading purposes. That is until I learned the truth of their bible and then it went straight into the trash.
For me reading the script in what the Christ stated that no one has gone to heaven where he has come from just him which he stated, I go with his words on that then this men.
It's something it says the ones that will rule as kings and priest it says on the earth or in some over the earth not in heaven, something to think about.

Denominations or groups that believe that, believe that all humans will reside on earth and that God will himself come to earth to live Revelation 21:1-2...so Wally's point that there is nowhere in the Bible that states some Christians will be in heaven and other Christians left on earth is true. All Christians will be together with God, and wherever God is, that is Heaven, so whether that "heaven" ends up being in the physical location of earth, or elsewhere, is irrelevant.

It is their 144k doctrine that theologically closes the Kingdom of the Heavens to their followers, which then denies them being Children of God, denies them Baptism into Christ. As a result they came up with a different baptism. The dedication vow arrangement. Thus, they are not baptized according to what Jesus instructed his disciples in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

I was told one of our kingdom hall elders was a member of the 144000 in oldhill West Midlands he was the only one who could have communion at Easter
14:20 It is in fact possible for fires to burn underground and its actually a major problem when it occurs in landfills. (structural collapse, destruction of plastic liners etc) I don't know whether the conditions would allow it to happen in a mass grave.
There are some scholars (secular not ones with religious bias) who have said that some of WT teachings may be correct. I believe Bart Ehrman talked about that a little on the Mythvision channel. He wasn't talking specifically about them but when he got to teachings that most Christians accept but that may be wrong he mentioned the two-tiered reward system. He's not the only one either. I remember hearing an interview on NPR with another scholar who mentioned that the idea of a heavenly reward probably started with Paul because the jews of Jesus' day tended to believe in a physical reward not a spiritual one. Well, fast forward a few decades and Jerusalem falls, all the Christians expect God to establish his kingdom and NOTHING happens then along comes Paul with his teachings of a more "real" reward. I believe it was a more Socratic philosophy, that what we see isn't the real reality. It's the Materialist vs Idealist argument. Paul's background was in the Idealist side so he taught that what we have in the material world is only a reflection of the Ideal reality. The Ideal of course being heaven. Not everyone qualifies for that reward but they may still qualify for the lesser earthly reward.
Dr. Ehrman (I think that's who it was) also mentioned another area where WT may have been correct, and it may have been about hell. His attitude was pretty funny actually. It was like, as unbelievable as it is this group may have actually gotten something right!
But like they say, even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Scholars with a religious dog in the fight tend to disagree with JWs, but then again they have their own power to try and maintain.
And for me this is all a huge part of why I don't believe anymore. You can find a scripture to back up almost any position. Is hell real, here's a few scriptures for that. Is it not real, here's a few for that. Trinity? Same thing. Slavery good or bad? Here's a few more. That the supposed perfect Word of God can be legitimately interpreted in such drastically different ways says a lot about it's not-so-divine origins. About the only thing it is consistent on is that God doesn't care about children or the unborn. The flood, Jericho, the 10th plaugue, the Benjaminite war, Sodom, etc, all bear that out. How many exceptions were made for kids or pregnant women? None. Unless they were virgin girls, and we already know why
I think eternal punishment could refer to eternal death, and there is some reason to believe the "everlasting fire" of the Bible is meant to be literal. Mar 9:48 also talks about "their worm never dies, and the fire not quenched." If literal, then are these doomed souls trapped in bodies that are forever rotting without being consumed? I personally, think eternal death is the eternal punishment, and the talk of fire and worms that go on forever is just a metaphor for a death that one will never recover from (eternal death.) But I don't know Greek or Hebrew, nor do I lead any cult or religion, so my opinion is just that.

The literal meaning of eternal punishment means the punishment never ends, if the punishment is death, then that means the person will be eternally dead. The meaning of eternal is the same in both, what is debated is what the eternal punishment is--is it eternal death, or is it eternal torture?
To be fair the Hebrew scriptures did not have a se se of heaven and hell, hence focus on blessing I. This world a d through family legacy. So sheol did mean grave. The Greek Hades had a sense of arriving in the underworld but not really conscious. It is valid to challenge the idea of a permenant suffering hell. Jesus referred to the constant fire at Gehenna, the waste tip outside Jerusalem, the flame may be eternal, but items thrown there were not.
However people needed to deal with the issues of wicked people prospering whild the poor suffered. So the concept of hell was creeping in at the time of Jesus and beyond. So that those not punished in the world will face punishment later.
In the same way the modern rejection of hell is also based on the need for fairness. And eternal punishment for a finite crime is deemed unfair so society rejects is Christianity as unfair.
A lot of post medieval hell fire was rooted in Dantes Inferno. And it was very useful for controlling the masses, so made a big deal.

Matthew 25:46 means "practically eternal".

Usage: age-long, and therefore: practically eternal,
This "hell" is the 1,000 year judgment time period over the wicked, which comes after the deadline to repent- called Armageddon.
Same for those who have "eternal life" in this same verse*. It is "practically eternal".
God uses the words to describe "eternal life" (practically) as "living like the days of a tree" in Isaiah 65. They will practically seem to live eternally but God is including the fact
that the last enemy death is still around. That last enemy "death" will not be destroyed until after the 1,000 years are over and God has brought all the wicked to repentance and eternal life, where death is no where to be found for anyone anymore.
We are in this together. There is a process of God bringing everyone to Life, so we must love our enemies. Either you are "first fruits" or you are last fruits but its a process for us all to come in at the end of the 1,000 years.
The 1,000 year judgment period is no picnic for the wicked. But It's a picnic for the righteous and there will be nothing the righteous can do to "cross over from here to there" , crossing over the chasm, to help the unrighteous.

Breakdown:
There is the Great Tribulation that comes before Armageddon to correct and refined people before the deadline of Armageddon. After the deadline of Armageddon comes the 1,000 judgment period, the millennial reign. If you did not repent before then then you stay as imperfect as you are and you're locked in to what you chose for yourself and your life, while the righteous around you prosper and live on in perfect bodies.
You can repent during the 1,000 year reign but you won't be resurrected to eternal life or gain eternal life until after the 1,000 years are over.

the whole book of Revelation is all symbolic. Apocalyptic was a literary genre very popular in the old days. Like today science fiction is a popular literary genre. Let say in 2 thousand year, someone reads and science fiction book and start making decisions about what is reality and what is not. Daniel and John apocalyptic writers would laugh their hearts out listening to JW interpretation of their own writings.
And clearly a commentary on Rome, on 7 hills, 7horns etc and the name Nero = 666 (or in alt manuscripts using a different spelling 616)

There's literally no difference between JW paradise and Christian paradise. It's all based on magically living in supernatural conditions in an actual human body. Watchtower tries to make it seem more real and practical and preys on the idea that "heaven" is something different. I attended a church once that taught nobody goes to heaven and that Jesus' message was entirely political and he'd come back but there'd be no paradise immediately, he'd rule from Jerusalem to fix things. Makes a lot more sense than the JW 144000 thing. Wasn't there speculation once that the 144000 could materialize bodies and hang out with the great crowd if they wanted to? It's all so silly.

Hi Wally! Oh no I can't remember which Scripture it is exactly but there is one scripture where they literally say one half is literal and the other half is symbolic. Hello Wally, living in "La-la-la-la-la-la" land keeps the JWs from opening their mouths to ask if the Bible is absolutely accurate. They used to marvel on their accuracy of translation. And then they paraphrased the Bible with their grey-colored translation. (Wow, grey-colored translation...hmmmm). But as such the rules of d-finng keeps them all from questions.

Yeah with the name they aren't even close, but it was a part of Russell's shtick to make up for him knowing zero actual Hebrew or Greek (which he famously showed in court... he didn't even know the alphabet).
Modern JW leadership know fine well God's name isn't Jehovah, but they don't actually care because it's importance is in corporate branding the religious control of people by a Publishing and Real Estate company.

They are wrong about God's name, God's name is YHWH, no one really knows how to pronounce it, but "Yahweh" is believed to be the most likely pronunciation. Jehovah is no where in the original texts, it was put in by a translator who had no idea how to pronounced YHWH either.
