LYRICS:
You can sail off the edges of the earth
Greet the workers of the universe
Still nothing prepares you for loss of life
Mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm
At the table
Undressing cosmic knots
What remains of disconnected dots
Who knows how the painting will look in the morning?
When the day is born and life is ending
Ah ah ah ah ah ah
But it’s neither created nor destroyed
There’s a way to quiet all the noise
‘Cause it’s only a different kind of gain
Even if your color fades away
When the world is born and life is ending
Then you learn to love your loss of life
When that moment comes and life is over
Anyone can love
Anyone can love

I really appreciate how much this band goes against the conventional stuff and instead, creates something as fresh and as magical as this
If you traversed the modern days art as a whole, you'd have been shocked how many of such mad geniuses are up there among this whole mass pulp.
Ya know - "cream of the crop always rises to the top,{ OH YEAH }" but isn't sitting atop of PR sticks... And that makes me feel that they're underrated and unappreciated.
Also none of them has Little Dark Age as a meme so how would I ever seen them otherwise than spending my time on searching for them ;3
@@lolsonchciwy5022would like to hear your recommendations
They made it a point with Congratulations that they wanted to alienate a lot of the people who hooked on with Oracular. They've only ever doubled down on that ethos, especially with their self titled record. They're truly artists for the sake of it.
The hook in this feels like it's from an old cartoon that never existed. Really dreamy
This is literally Terraria OST and I love it
The hook is so heartwarming and comforting and beautiful, this album is pretty moving after a few listens
ffiii ost
It's sounds like something that could be in Adventure Times
The backside of this album is an absolute gem. Never have I been so moved by a modern album
2:09
A reference to the magnificent Siberian Breaks, Part VI: The Way That It Was (8:22 - 9:12):
“Long before it made a noise
To keep on quietly reminding you
What’s never created or destroyed”
MGMT, heartfelt thanks for your music. Since I was 9 years old in 2008, your songs have been a part of my life. Even now, at 25, they still move me deeply, giving me chills and stirring my emotions. It is been a joy growing up with your music, and I'm excited to see where the journey takes us next! Love for all MGMT fans around the world ❤❤❤
Yeah I heard that on first listen and I went: "Hang on, created or destroyed...?"
That's great, didn't consciously catch it. I was watching the Melons review and he was saying that this sounded a lot like the Flaming Lips and Sufjan Stevens and I was like "but have you heard Siberian Breaks?" Makes me chuckle listening again.
Its the law of conservation of energy too "energy is neither created nor destroyed"
The hole album seems to be honouring Siberian Breaks
Seriously.. have listened to the album 8 times now... And still this song is what im drawn to. Its the crescendo of the album.. that last minute and a half has me tearing up and laughing its so amazing but you can only get to this place by listening the whole way through. This is an album for the fans not for radio, innovative and beautiful as ever. Theres a metaphor out there im sure, but i wouldn't ruin this with a single sentence. The place im at right now... You have found me.
Hide and seek. Show and tell.
sounds like One Thing Left To Try
This song is incredible. My dog died this week, and while not the most significant loss I've experienced in my life, it has certainly been an emotional week, and the feelings associated with "loss of life" are strong for me right now.
MGMT has done a perfect job of capturing these feelings that are only felt when you lose an important life, the noise, mystery, sadness, but ultimately love. A seemingly simple love, but one that cannot be accessed until you've lost. Beautiful.
Sending hugs 🐶
RIP for your Doggo ❤
Holy shit you put my thoughts into words. Lost my nephew recently and felt embraced listening to the album. ❤ sending hugs as well.
I feel this sincerely.
My dog passed away, too, and he ultimatively was more connected to my healing journey than every other being in my life. Thus it was a fucking hard hit for me.
Combined with the fact how present dogs are, that they are not creatures of past nor future really disconnects my dog from my grief. And that disconnects me from the whole ordeal from time to time.
But the week I had with him after his diagnosis was truly magical. Although also hurtful.
For you, I personally liked the sentiment that after death, the love you had turns into the equal amount of grief. That grief and love are of the same essence.
I hope you like it as well.
The last 4 songs of the album are the greatest thing they have ever done imo, wish more people hear it.
This is a masterpiece… This album is just wow. The more you listen, the better and better it gets. What a trip!
Like The Smiles new album it does get better on repeated listens. There are a couple low points for me, particularly the third song, but overall you are right.
I think this is my favorite album from MGMT so far.
It has the trippy feel of the self-titled record with better production and a more inspired feel overall.
It's very beautiful. I think its their white album.
This song is an experience, hits me so hard. My first listen of this album I took a walk on the beach on a gloomy evening and by the end was sat, staring out at the waves as this song changed me. At the climax (learn to love your loss of life), I had my mouth gaping open, tears in my eyes, feeling so changed inside by what I was hearing. I felt like crying because of its confrontation with death, but also moved because of the unique way it embraces it. Thankyou MGMT, you guys never miss and are truly special.
@CherryCOla
Beautiful experience
Literally feels like if dying was a song
@@luka-lk7hxAnyone can love

Have you listened to When You Die?
@@willyc2051 great song but not the same feeling. When you die sounds like a bad trip
Last 30 seconds sounds like a black hole eating something
Yeah, accepting the beauty of death
This is like the sequel to When You Die
which was the sequel to "i love you to death" on their self titled hahahaha 😆
Nothing can prepare, and nothing can compare.
nothing to declare
I have loved MGMT from day one, but this might be their best album. I had congratulations as their best up until this one. This song is a masterpiece and the album is mgmt at their best.
I hear surf's up all over this song, hauntingly beautiful. This whole album is like a descent from love and acceptance into ego death and oblivion.
Yes. A lot of Siberian Breaks mood on this whole record peppered throughout. And Metanoia feels too.
Ego Death! Exactly what this album is about
Yes! I keep thinking of Surf's Up whenever I hear this song, glad someone else mentioned it
I was not feeling dancing in babylon, but ive always listened and judged their albums as a whole. This changed my mind for the better
Dancing in Babylon is just normy bate LOL 😂
they know...its infinite...nothing dies..nothing ends...its all pretend
When DIB came out I knew I needed the context of the full album to appreciate. I was right. The album compliments it so much more than itself on its own.
same, but the video is awesome
Just as this song was released, I had to rush my cat to the vet clinic because she looked very weak and ill. Turnes out she has an unknown formation in her belly, that hurts nearby organs. We’ve made an x-ray and spoken with several specialists including oncologist. They’ve said that chances of successful rehabilitation at this point are extremely low. My family and I will visit other specialists during the weekend, however, we have to make conclusion on what we are going to do on Monday. Maybe we could take a risk and try to remove the formation, maybe analysis results would be so bad that there’s nothing that could be done. I don’t know yet, but coming to terms with the fact, that I will more likely loose my dear friend is the hardest thing. I always loved how versatile mgmt’s music is and how many emotions it can make me feel and help to process. And now they’re music is once again here with me as I’m crying and remembering all the love snd support my cat gave my in these 15 years.
I still hope that everything is going to be ok and she’ll have strength to go through all that. But I don’t want her to feel pain either. If letting her go is the best thing I can do, then so be it
I am very sorry to hear that. I have faith that your cat will make it, and if not - think of the great times you had together! But I firmly believe that cats sometimes make real miracles
Listening to this song while reading this made me cry. I’m sorry that you have to go through this. Nothing prepares you for loss of life. I’m sitting with my elderly cat on my lap and know he will one day pass on. I still won’t be prepared. So I just cherish every moment I can. Even though it is difficult, I know you will get through it.
The most brilliant and original band today
There are many other great artist out there. Broaden your horizon
Most brilliant genuine band that sits close but not next to the main stream
@@claytonharring8514not really
The more I’ve thought about it’s like I’ve always been a fan of mgmt but it’s like this art that I just listen to a few times and then I don’t listen to it for a long while, the music doesn’t require it. They are like the anti band. They are just artists, they don’t even want to go on tour and I get that
Can you please drop some recommendations? @@claytonharring8514
Feels like beach boys vibes at certain points
Oh thanks! The vocals especially. But I couldn't remember what it reminds me of. Now I really hear the similarities with the song Surf's Up
Best.Outro.Ever.
Always ahead of their time. Never conform, long live mgmt
As always MGMT sounds beautiful!
Muy hermoso ❤😲💓 psicodélico, ya hacía falta nuevo álbum para disfrutar y viajar con su música, una obra maestra!
I’ll never forget hearing “kids” for the first time. I was 16. Pure ecstasy ✨
I remember when I first heard it on radio, I never thought it would end up there lol.
I'll never forget watching the time to pretend video while high af in my couch.
Same thing, I remember the moment
It feels like MGMT are at home now ❤
This album is free.
This album seems to show this gratitude and celebrates our nature and universe because life can get cut short and could end very suddenly for anyone
What a beautiful but slightly unsettling song. ❤
True
The last 2 minutes is an operatic masterpiece. Tchaikovsky would give this a ‘like’.
Wonder if anyone else hears the words in the last few seconds of the song.
Also, It's an awesome song but seems out of place on the album, or that it's leading us somewhere else.... Maybe like melancholy and the infinite sadness, there will be another album that pairs with this
@@SpaceCaptnFacethis leads us to loss of life part 2
@@SpaceCaptnFace I think it's more like the album loops back unto itself, with Loss of Life Pt. II opening the album.
Happy 2024 to everyone!!! May good music always be with us!!! MGMT more current than ever!!!
Happy 2024?
@@therandomchannel-cr7ox Yeah. We've only been two months. We still have a long way to go this year. Greetings!!!
This song to me sounds like i imagine die would feel. Like a morning, like a reborn, like everything at once, i love how mgmts music have made me feel from day one.
I've been hearing mgmt for 6 years now, through my life, through countries and cities, its so important for me this band, THIS
Thanks mgmt for being part of my life and heart
We've all been listening to Deserter's Songs again!...MGMT are gifted and brilliant. As are the Rev. X
The best MGMT album since Congratulations
Dude they're all good
@@herzeliedstein573 I still can’t click with the self titled. I enjoy the first half of LDA, but the second half completely loses me.
Try again with psychedelics and it'll change ur mind about self titled@@sanfordcurtis8242
This albums might be a legit Dark side of the moon type
I came to say the same. They became the modern Pink Floyd with this album.
My favorite Is and always will be Pink Floyd to me there a tiny mix between the Beatles and Pink Floyd ❤❤❤
A month exactly to the last day I got to talk to one of my best friends in the world, she would have loved this.
Sounds like their own "eclipse" from dark side of the moon. Masterpiece, clearly. Pure true, the deepest vibes of mgmt's electricity... Made me cry many times. I'll always remember the first listening. I want this to my funerals. Now every music seems meaningless.
Every human being on Earth who has already seen death or has lost somebody will understand every word in this album. I can tell Ben and Andrew, just like us, have been facing some hard times for the last years. I feel like this is a journey about accepting reality, accepting life, death, pain, sorrow. That's human nature and we must learn that for the good. So that is why it sounds like a warm hug... Thank you guys for translating so many important lessons into sounds and lyrics. For being real and vunerable. 🤍 hope you never stop making music.
instant classic
After 20 years we go full circle. Love always remains. Thank you, to the management for all the good times and vibes!!!~
One of the most important persons in my life just left me while i'm trying to make music. I'm in one of my saddest moments and this song it's helping me to carrie on.
Thank you MGMT, thank you for this wonderful and impactful career you guys have.
I'm a big fan of that capitalized "O" in the album/song title.
I need to stop already listened to this song 10 times back to back.

Welcome back, boys. This body of work is truly *chef’s kiss*
God i hope thay tour again. One of the best concerts i ever seen.
Thanks MGMT for sharing your music with the world! It's been a gift to many.
Okay thats settles it, i want this song as the last one on my funeral
The only MGMT song I have ever cried to...
I love this song
I hope this isn’t their last album this album is very uplifting.
WHO SAID IT WOULD BE IT COULD BE THEIR LAST? 😥 I'm ready to throw hands if that's true
It won’t be they are currently working on new material.
It was touring that night not happen there might be some live singles though
This song is just pure beauty.
This is amazing
This is one of the best pieces of music to ever make it to the public. It is beautiful. MGMT made something ever larger than themselves. It is a great conclusion to an album but is also poetic in that the lyrics capture the essence of existence while offering a positive reframe of the inevitable. It is warm, like a hug.
This style is absolutely gorgeous! I'm spellbound
MGMT is ART
another perfect album ty for existing on this earth
The lyrics hits hard when you know that you know !!!
Beautiful masterpiece
This song feels like the mirror version of Time to pretend with the reminiscent trumpets at the end. A peaceful, almost optimistic version of it, despite the inevitable end of all.
Such a powerful ending/opening to an album.
pure magic as always
I’d love to see a music video for this by the director of the video for when you die
Thank you
Might be the greatest song of all time
Best MGMT songs period. A masterpiece.
Thank you MGMT

Fantastic track
mgmt is so underrated man.😩
This song is basically MGMT’s take on a Terraria OST song and I love it
This is the best track on the new album.
So lucky to see them preform live 12 years ago.. in penn state and Maryland university.. they were magnificent, as always. I’ve always been a fan since album 1. We were young.. now we’re 40! Bless the universe and pray for better endings
This is one of their best albums❤
Well that was cathartic
This is really nice
