Hi graham, a fellow flight attendant here. We are required to wear stockings with our uniform. We always have to carry a lot of extras with us because if we have a tear we’re required to change it right away (annoying, I know) we also do have to wear a shoe with at least a 1 inch heel that’s presentable to walk through the airport. Most all flight attendants have heels for the airport and shoes for on the plane. Since we are the main employees representing our companies they train us to always be tip top🤷🏽♀️ it’s a lifestyle
Both my parents are flights attendants and are both furloughed. My mum is at risk of being made redundant. British airways are screwing their flight attendants over and using it as an excuse to get ride of crew on the older, more expensive contract.
Graham is super cheap, but I understand it. The part that I don't understand is why, to his extent. You're working to pass money on after you die? Enjoy your life more =)

1. Stockings are mandatory! And most flight attendants will invest in good compression stockings to help with blood circulation (being in the air does take a toll on everything). 2. High heels must be worn with your uniform. You can get reported for being seen walking around the airport with flats or other shoes...which will result in a write up. Tragic, I know.

@coco marineblu she probably talking about hair. Alot of company dont consider certain hairstyles appropriate. So you would need to go to a stylist to get it done regularly, each time buying all products for installation (e.g extension) and upkeep (wraps, gel, hair care etc). They keep their expenses low and try to make the most of their salaries, that is a great strategy for building long term wealth regardless of how low ones income might be it’s all possible by saving and investing regularly
1. Makeup, stockings, hairstyles and heels are compulsory. - So they have to spend on foundations, blushers, lipliner, lipstick, and mascara. BC your supervisor WILL check. - Hair gel/spray, hair tie, hairpins, and hairnets are all compulsory. - Heels must have a certain height to them. 2. They have LONG HOURS. They can spend 8 to 12 hours standing for their entire shifts. For women, its worst bc they have to wear heels. LONG HOURS + HEELS -->>> Really, really tired. You will have to travel home and the airport is always located at a FAR area. Hence, no energy to cook. 3. Flying can wreak your damn face. Additionally, women are MADE to wear makeup for their job. So, their skins are way worst than their male colleagues. 4. When you're overseas for a few hours/days, you don't pay for mobile internet services. So you can't take an Uber. *PS I know all of this due to my Airport staff's training. I was made to wear makeup, hair stuff, painful heels, long hour shiftsx6 days a week, and had long local transportation. I return home just in time for my eight-hour rest, woke up, shower, go to work, and do the same thing again. No one has time to cook man. @The Graham Stephan Show Love your show btw
My sister gave up her orthodontic career to become a flight attendant. She would be treating her patients and listen to their stories of traveling here, there, everywhere, so she became a f/a and would work her patients around her schedule and just decided to do it all the way. Twenty-five years later, she is still loving it. They get paid more than that with the company she works for. They are also required to wear a watch at all times and make-up too.
You have to wear stockings as a flight attendant. They conceal imperfections on your legs and their is an outdated school of thought that if you wear stockings you won’t distract men.
You have to wear heels outside of the plane but once you get onto the plane you can change to flats. America's airlines are actually pretty lenient on uniforms and appearances. Other airlines in other countries require pulled up hair, hats, or a certain standards of makeup. Obviously everyone knows there are other requirements in other countries such as height, weight and age but won't go there lol.
Once you begin serving you change to flats, but boarding and deplaning heels are required....also airlines in the US tend to work more flights and work longer hours in a day compared to other countries with no “break rooms/ crew corridors “ or an official break for meals ...but America is slowly catching up for things like that
Yes sorry during serving can be changed to flats. I have friends who work for American, Southwest, EVA, Cathay, Garuda and Emirates. From what I’ve learned flight attendants outside of the US are treated worse with lower pay and less benefits (no non rev travel benefits for example so can’t commute) Also flight attendants outside the US do not have flexibility in their hours as they do in the US unless your on reserve.
I’ve heard the same unfortunately 😞 , all have pros and cons . Hopefully one day the profession will be more stable and respected globally as a whole . Flight attendants work and train hard to do what they do (it’s more than it seems)
ARNESAH J For sure! All the extra hours commuting to and from the airport, the health impact of being in the air for longer periods, jet lag, etc. So many things people don’t realize that make it so hard for this profession
@@d1492ay that is 3 months away. It is possible demand comes back, and employees with low seniority like these 2 are saved from furloughs. Seems unlikely tho
Ooh video idea: You and your girlfriend both go shopping for workwear, then compare the costs. I'd actually be curious to see if being a woman is more expensive.
Being a woman is more expensive. If you want to be lazy it's not so bad, but if you keep up with hair and makeup (even if you do it yourself) it adds up.
It depends on your job. If your dress code requires professional clothes, make-up, heals, and a short list of acceptable hair styles. It can cost. (Jobs where this was a requirement in my job history: barista, retail, government, and secretarial work.)
@@silentj624 i am a woma and i disagree. Makeup lasts a long time and hair can be very low maintenence and still look good. I have had times where i spent a lot and times where i spent vey little, and achieved similar results. We can do whatever we want
Instacart is actually a justified expense in NYC. If you walk everywhere it can take hours a week to shop. The closest store to you might not have good prices, the store with the best prices might be a mile away with no bus route.
As a Delta employee; she has to wear stocking as part of the dress code. It’s one of the many dumb dress code policies placed on ladies in the airline industry. Like so graham can see
Graham, nothing made me laugh harder today then when I saw your Webcam face on the women flight attendants body. It was hilarious 🤣. Keep up the quality content!
Female flight attendants should get paid a little more considering they are required to wear makeup and some airlines do require female flight attendants to wear heels at least 2 inches high while on the tarmac or out in the airport. I sure hope they at least deduct those expenses off their taxes.
@@onetwo8932 nah, because women wear different makeup and makeup brands have different values and some women wear way more than they should and are very wasteful with it. Just a makeup allowance and extra shoe allowance would be fine. Definitely not paying for all the makeup they want to buy. Them women can go crazy with that makeup lol
You must understand as well that flight attendants don’t get paid until the board flight is closed. So while passengers are boarding the aircraft flight attendant are not getting paid until the everyone is boarded and the doors have closed. Yes flight attendant are require to wear heels when walking through the airport. It’s in almost all company’s handbook along with stockings and good quality stockings are highly expensive.
they might be mandated to wear stockings if they wear a skirt. some airlines are really strict with dress code, I know Hawaiian airlines is incredibly strict. at one point, you couldn't have a tattoo even if it wasn't visible.
When my dad's colleague interviewed for Pan Am she had a tattoo on her ankle. She was told she could have the job but had to get rid of the tattoo. She went home and sanded it off in order to get the job. This was in the late 70's.

Hey Graham!! I know you read the comments so I just wanted to say THANK YOU! I started watching your videos in October and absorbing your mindset through these videos has completely changed my financial situation and life trajectory. Thank you.
I worked for a bank years ago and while stockings (we call them tights or Nylons) weren’t required, they were highly encouraged. Personally, I think they help prevent blisters while wearing heels, and help insulate your legs when it’s cold. As long as you yank them up high enough, they aren’t extremely uncomfortable. Just annoying. And yes, they tear easily!
This video can be summarized "Graham discovers pink tax". Yes, it is much more expensive to be a woman, and there are many requirements that women need to meet, in comparison to men.
12:36 During my winter exam session I would go grocery shopping at 3-4 am after studying. Best time ever, nobody is around, no queue, everyrhing is silent, the city sleeps and deep down you feel like you are fucking the system. but then again, I was in my exam session, so I would wake up in the PM part of the clock :))
As a woman, I came to realize that men seriously don’t care what you’re wearing, if you have makeup on, your nails being painted, or what accessories you are wearing. I pretty much wear the same outfit daily (as in tank tops, jeans/denim shorts, hoodie, baseball hat just different variations- not the same few articles of clothing), I haven’t purchased new clothes since 2014. I tend to wear boots most of the time, so I went with a few high quality pairs of Frye boots that were pricey but will last a lifetime with occasional sole replacements. I only spend on skincare, quality vitamins/supplements for a beauty routine. I take care of my own pedicure/manicures, grooming with eyebrows/hair, etc. Women absolutely don’t need to spend so much on clothes, salon trips, makeup, purses, shoes, and jewelry if they take good care of their skin and body. Men don’t even know what that stuff is, they look at your face and figure at first and your outfit and accessories don’t even process in their brain. After that they only care about your character and personality. Save that money or spend it on buying property/investing. Most women would be horrified if they actually tallied up how much they have spent on things that do absolutely nothing for them. I get women like to do these things to stay in fashion, for other women, but are the people you are dressing for going to fund your lifestyle, retirement, and leave generational wealth to your kids down the line? Trust me, skip the shopping and buy yourself a few properties instead.
As a caregiver to 3 people with disabilities in my home, I have my groceries delivered because it saves me time and i can't always go out when I need to.
The reason some airlines give supplemental pay for cost of living is because sometimes the flight attendants don’t have a choice where they’re based and HAVE to live in that city.
Spending money on groceries delivered is the best thing she can do for herself. Being tired from flights/jetlag is a different category of being tired than anything you can experience with regular lifestyle. Not to mention coming back at night dragging your luggage behind you after hours at the airport/airborne, shopping is last thing you want to do. This is mental health expense, not extravagance
Some people live in these “luxury” cities for other reasons like maybe they where born there or their family lives near by and they have a reason to stay.
Spends all that money on a car and pays extra to have groceries delivered. Shopping at night is the best when nobody is there, especially in the middle of the week.
Thank you!! When you addressed on how outdated the shoe rule was my heart jumped for joy. Sadly we have to wear the heels and stockings both are none negotiable unless we wear pants.
I agree with Graham on most points, but on the point of having groceries delivered, I think it can definitely make sense depending on how much the service costs and how much you make per hour. Where I live, having my groceries delivered costs around $3,5 to $5. It takes me at least an hour to shop for groceries for the entire week. Since I make considerably more than $5 an hour, it's definitely a worthwhile expenditure IMO. You're essentially buying back an hour of your time.
Another thing with stockings besides them being required for uniform: wearing skirts without anything underneath hurts our thighs and they chafe, so stocking help with that. And they make legs look nicer too
Stockings could also help with compression for circulation and to minimize the appearance of veins. If you’re standing up a lot you can get spider veins.
7:20 guy pays $34.77 for a derma roller so he can needle himself for as long as the needles stay sharp. 9:03 pays $550 for one micro needling treatment done every month or two...

Hey Graham, about 5 months ago I got this sudden interest in finance and business. Well, your channel is the best channel I have found for fulfilling that interest. Literally, now when I see like Meet Kevin or someone else critiquing you I get defensive. I have probably watched at least 75 of your videos now on this channel and the Graham Stephan channel and none of them have disappointed me at all. I opened my first store/business a few days ago and I credit a lot of it to you. Thank you so much for being such a big inspiration to me and PLEASE keep making content and making $.20 iced coffee!
I got interested by watching you videos 5 months ago as well. Wonder if RUclips just pushed a video.
We're on the same page cheers mate!
Wow congrats man, really Graham is our gem

FYI the taxi trip to “Jessheim” is fair, because that’s in Norway and we don’t have Uber here to support our taxi drivers who earn fair wages, and work for Norwegian companies that pay taxes 🤷🏼♀️
They keep their expenses low and try to make the most of their salaries, that is a great strategy for building long term wealth regardless of how low ones income might be it’s all possible by saving and investing regularly
Did anyone else notice the “Red light” expense in Amsterdam? That is why people don’t show their face 🤣
It's probably drinks in a bar though. Red light is just a club area.
@The Graham Stephan Show
Love your show btw
My sister gave up her orthodontic career to become a flight attendant. She would be treating her patients and listen to their stories of traveling here, there, everywhere, so she became a f/a and would work her patients around her schedule and just decided to do it all the way. Twenty-five years later, she is still loving it. They get paid more than that with the company she works for. They are also required to wear a watch at all times and make-up too.
You have to wear stockings as a flight attendant. They conceal imperfections on your legs and their is an outdated school of thought that if you wear stockings you won’t distract men.
Nice. What I learned from this channel is that it’s not what you make that counts, but what you do with what you make after taxes and life expense.
Love how the guy is enjoing life and getting paid to do it. Never stays in a hotel, always explores :)

Those asian flights have much much better service than any shitty US carrier!

Over 600$ on two facials irked me more than the car.

Is this Graham "8.234/10" Stephan? 😂
Lol as a flight attendant you HAVE to wear stockings 😂 it’s required with the uniform

Female flight attendants should get paid a little more considering they are required to wear makeup and some airlines do require female flight attendants to wear heels at least 2 inches high while on the tarmac or out in the airport. I sure hope they at least deduct those expenses off their taxes.
Sounds like pay inequality
@@NickVetter Well, it follows from the uniform inequality.
Or at least should be able to send receipts for their makeup and stockings etc and get that money in their paycheck
Most makeup requirenents are like "wear 3 pieces of makeup" and honestly you can do that for like $5
You must understand as well that flight attendants don’t get paid until the board flight is closed. So while passengers are boarding the aircraft flight attendant are not getting paid until the everyone is boarded and the doors have closed. Yes flight attendant are require to wear heels when walking through the airport. It’s in almost all company’s handbook along with stockings and good quality stockings are highly expensive.
When I was a flight attendant it was required to wear stockings, wear heels, and lots of makeup. Yes, a real dress code.

they might be mandated to wear stockings if they wear a skirt. some airlines are really strict with dress code, I know Hawaiian airlines is incredibly strict. at one point, you couldn't have a tattoo even if it wasn't visible.
Frontier airlines still enforces that tattoo rule!
That's a stupid rule
The Boss likes a good ol strip search
When my dad's colleague interviewed for Pan Am she had a tattoo on her ankle. She was told she could have the job but had to get rid of the tattoo. She went home and sanded it off in order to get the job. This was in the late 70's.
How would an airline know if you had one if it wasn’t visible??

I worked for a bank years ago and while stockings (we call them tights or Nylons) weren’t required, they were highly encouraged. Personally, I think they help prevent blisters while wearing heels, and help insulate your legs when it’s cold. As long as you yank them up high enough, they aren’t extremely uncomfortable. Just annoying. And yes, they tear easily!
This video can be summarized "Graham discovers pink tax". Yes, it is much more expensive to be a woman, and there are many requirements that women need to meet, in comparison to men.
No gram you have to go to grocery outlet for protein. Has name brand protein for like 15 dollars.
They spend it on tiny silk scarves.

The reason some airlines give supplemental pay for cost of living is because sometimes the flight attendants don’t have a choice where they’re based and HAVE to live in that city.
Since wearing stockings is a must i skipped shaving my legs hehe 😂
Spending money on groceries delivered is the best thing she can do for herself. Being tired from flights/jetlag is a different category of being tired than anything you can experience with regular lifestyle. Not to mention coming back at night dragging your luggage behind you after hours at the airport/airborne, shopping is last thing you want to do. This is mental health expense, not extravagance
Some people live in these “luxury” cities for other reasons like maybe they where born there or their family lives near by and they have a reason to stay.
I agree Graham........shopping at midnight is awesome!
It’s apart of uniform when it comes to the stockings. It’s dress code.

GRAHAM - IN A PANDEMIC, we NEED grocery delivery!!!
