Its always interesting to hear you talk about these not so famous weapons. Your perspective differs alot from the mainstream pvp players and 'meta'
First time I saw this weapon was in a game called Dead Island, could put some wires n stuff on it to make it stabby AND electrocute zombies, good times
That sounds nifty
That's exactly where I first heard of the wakizashi. My favorite weapon was the metal kanabo that you could put a mod on that would blast zombies into the air if you got a crit. Dead Island was such a fun game! I played the hell out of it as a teenager!
One significant issue i found in pve because it only works powerstanced in the left hand:
The katana powerstance movement starts by swinging your left hand katana. I cannot tell you how many times I've missed and failed to stagger enemies because it uses the shorter one first.
All that being said it is quite stylish, much nicer looking than 2 similarly sized katanas tho honestly they should have just brought back the paired katanas from 3 instead of this.
I actually really like powerstancing the uchigatana with the wakizashi because it keeps the good moveset but reduces stamina usage on L1 and also allows you to have parry. it does do significantly less damage than a second uchigatana, tho.
I simply just like that this exists at all, instead of not existing. A dagger with a katana powerstance, while being less powerful is just a new way to play that looks really refreshing. I wish there where more hybrid weapon class move sets out there, like in dark souls 2. But elden ring still offers as much variety as DS2 does, more so than the other games.
The main bonus of using the wakazashi in PvE is the fact it adds an increased crit bonus to the right hand weapon. That's the best use for it.
If you equip the wakizashi in left hand it will increase right hand weapon's crit damage ?
So let me give you a little bit of history behind the actual wakizashi. Based on historical research of the weapon, the wakizashi was, in fact not used as a primary weapon of attack, but rather as a weapon to compliment the katana in battle. The Katana was a weapon that worked well on it’s own, but in the very very small cases where a Katana couldn’t get the job done alone, such as in confined spaces, the samurai would make use of the wakizashi as a short ranged option. The wakizashi was also an option for putting pressure on an opponent in a fight. Lots of samurai would use a wakizashi as a means of throwing off their combatant by switching briefly to a two handed sword style as a means of distraction. Another good example of how a wakizashi was used properly was in cases where one swing by the katana didn’t land, so the wakizashi was pulled and swung to deliver another swing. The weapon isn’t necessarily used to duel wield, but rather to compliment the katana. I think that the game does a good job at sort of hinting at that, seeing at the base blood loss buildup of the uchigatana is 45. 45 blood loss buildup seems like a pretty low number, but if you stack the wakizashi’s 38 blood loss on top of the uchigatana, then you have a buildup of 83 when power stancing the two weapons. The idea of both weapons separate is also viable, because using the wakizashi on it’s own allows you to utilize quick step as a much more maneuverable option, giving you an extra bit of dodge for a back stab, or to get a bit of distance, but honestly, you really just want to use the wakizashi in cases were you need the weapon as a back up in situations where the uchigatana fails, which are very rare
I think it's really good for cosplay / edgelord build that wields this dagger in offhand and normal katana in main hand, like, the biggest pro are the style point you get for using it
Cringe
sorta, that combination was used by one really famous japanese guy (miyamoto musashi). it also conserves some stamina compared to uchi + nagakiba
Woo I'm early. Love the format of your vids, all very similar sure but excellent showcases because of it and you show good gameplay too
Thanks!
@@MrIwont4get do you ever want help with any kind of work on the channel? I'm looking for a new hobby and id love to help like, script write or maybe make closed captions, something like that
I appreciate the offer, but I'm not particularly in need of any assistance. Thanks though!
By complete accident when I just wanted to have some fun with different weapons and since the start of the game I was somehow drawn to the daggers even though I ended up using the katanas. Once I leveled up the wakizashi and started using it, I added lightning to it. Suddenly it became one of the most fun weapons to use for me. Soon starting my second playthrough and I kinda wanna have double wakizashis and beat the game that way haha. What they lack in range they make up for with speed. And the lightning ash gave it range. Now I find myself wanting to learn from smarter people than myself about these hidden gem weapons.
Amazing video! Thank you 🙏
Really wish these had the dagger move set
I really wish the parry frames were better, on par with small shield at least, which I could say of all the offhand parry weapons, but no monastery scimitar repeat please.
>can't power stance katana if it is in your right hand
Man... I wanted to do a build where I have moonveil in my left hand and be like, a magic assassin darting around with the funny knife.
This plus black flame blade melts bosses
Isn't quality always worse than heavy or keen for infusable weapons at RL150? Not that I care if you use optimal things or not, just curious.
Quality is only worse if you're not actually on a balanced quality build. On a quality build I had about 40 AR more
What inspired you to try Cragblade? Any specifics you could call out? I've always felt this is a fairly useless Ash of War, but I've never done any math around it
I'd heard it basically adds 10% stagger and 10% damage, so I think it would actually pair better with larger weapons that have a lot of either of those things already, as opposed to a dagger that doesn't have a lot of either
@@Shmethan the dagger has low stagger, so the crag blade allows you to actually stun people with it.
What’s in your currently rotation when you’re playing for fun and using whatever you want?
Offhand a few ive been enjoying are urumi, envoys long horn, morning star, inseparable sword, Warhawks talon and the linghaft axe
Quality infusion? I mean in lvl 125 meta pvp their are outperformed over any other infusion, in lvl 150 you can gain 20 AR but your are losing like 15-20 points in stats investment :l
PD: I enjoy your content, keep the good work!
At 150 it was closer to 50 AR for these. At that point I'd say it's worth it, but barely.
7:27 Elden Ring momento
Double blades
Is it a good idea to power stance it with a Katana or just two katanas
I'll probably give this one a miss. Not really tryna do a musashi playthrough
is this powerstance combo faster than the other dual katanas?
Let’s get to 50k
At the absolute least it's R2 should be a poke 1 handed...
How can I get the 2nd Wakizashi?
New game plus
Yeehaw
This weapon is just a bundle of missed opportunities.
