Nice. Thank you for this video and to have taken the time to do the comparison we were expecting. Will watch and rewatch to understand all and learn in the same time some synth tricks you provide by testing ;) thank again!
Something very ASMR about these reviews. The difference between the two synths is small in this controlled demo and in a mix [with other instruments, percussion, singing etc.] would anyone hear a difference? 🖋
If you owned a Synthex , I did ,you can hear the difference between Synthex V and Elka -X. Yes the Synthx V is closer to the original 100%. Synthx V OSC PWM and RingMod brings me back in time to own a Synthex again.
Cherry Audio Elka X heavy user here (i demoed it plenty of times on my lil chan). Your vid confirmed i made the best choice (tho the Arturia one wasnt released at that time haha).
@@CatSynthTV It was my first Cherry Audio synth (well i had got the free one Surrealistic before tho) I was blown away. Since i dont even look at other manufacturers. For the price u got that warm sound plus they add so many great fearture each time.
I know this is only comparing the basics but, on raw sound and analogue-modelling behaviour, the Arturia comes out on top here. I must have a play with them both myself. Plus, there’s the Xils Audio version as well!
I have to call a FOUL! 🙃🕵️♂️First of all, you might want to use the same octave and note when comparing sound. Otherwise its a meaningless tone comparison exercise. The Cherry keyboard starts an octave lower - so you're playing two different octaves in the multi mode filter section. The filter and tone is going to have a completly different quality at those two octave frequencies. Earlier in this srction you also play two different notes during the comparisin (a G and then an A) to compare tones. Second, a more important comparison is functionality and GUI. Arturia is a much more capable synth with a more enjoyable user experience imo. It's utilitarian color coded (and les cramped)gui makes programming much more simple, fun and logical (you cant underestimate this on a double layer synth), extra features panel, efx, and a truely amazing unique arp. As far as sound, the differences are so minimal its a bit futile to compare them on this level. Unfortunatly its quite a bit more costly but they do offer 50% from time to time.

You're very welcome 😺
Those filter sweeps…. 🤤
I know. I could just play those all day 😹🎹

Actually, they are very different as far as their user interface, extra features, and efx. The arturia is easily superior on all three fronts

Indeed, the Elka-X came out at a time when I was really pining for an actual Synthe (which was beyond my reach).

Once you tdy the arturia it's hard to go back to the cherry. The GUI, extra features and truly unique arp makes far better user experience imo.

Haven't tried the Xils Audio version yet. Will have to have a look.

Arturia $200.00....Cherry Audio $40.00.
You get what you pay for 🤪
