Still had this on my watch later list from 3 years ago. Just want to say thank you, I passed my database classes and currently working as a database developer.
I am new to SQL related software. This series video is the clearest, the most comprehensive and well organized one I have found on RUclips! Thank you very much! ps: really like your accent!!!
Terrific course, great contents, very good instructor, good pace, I couldn't ask for more. I now have a new favourite source of training material. Just looking forward to more content.
I can not believe that you are offering all these videos with that quality in production and technicality for free. Honestly I’ve downloaded all videos in your channel in case it closed for any given reasons. If you are offering any courses for money count me in.
I haven't watched it all yet but I already am in agreement. These videos are very high quality for what they're offering. Good audio quality, well spoken and so far everything he talks about is correctly explained. Liking these :)
Another video completed. Albeit a simple one that unfortunately took a long time to complete as my download speeds must have been running in reverse? Anyway SQL Server 2019 downloaded and ready to go. Hope it isn’t too tricky learning from your 2016 version using the 2019 one. Thanks again for a great video Andrew. Love the comment from a previous viewer as database developer sounds like an amazing job. Maybe one day in many years from now...
That's definitely the tedious part over with, writing queries is the fun part! The techniques covered for 2016 will still work in 2019, heck even the older videos which use SQL Server 2012 will still be relevant! The series could definitely use a reboot but I hope you enjoy the videos anyway!
Very impressed with the videos I've watched to date. Something to be said for the precise organization and presentation of content materials, and most importantly the clear, concise language used to deliver the instructions-which is most refreshing. Frankly, I've watched other similar videos that have left me struggling to interpret the message and piece the puzzle together - which is somewhat puzzling, counterintuitive, nonsensical, etc. to me...enough said. Honestly these videos are by far the best I've watched. Kudos to WiseOwl for a well-done product! Wise indeed I say...clearly not an oxymoron thing going on here.
Warning. As of today (May 6, 2017) you need to be a bit careful when you go back and install, separately, SSMS. The page you are taken to is for SSMS 2017, only. The page claims that SSMS 2017 is compatible with all previous versions from 2008 through the newest, SQL Server 2017. However, what the page does not tell is that if you are going to be using SSIS, then SSMS 2017 won't work ... it is not compatible with SSIS 2016. This incompatibility may change in the future, but as of today, if you will be using SSIS, then instead of installing the only version that the page shows, you have to scroll down and find and click the link to go to previous versions, and download the latest SSMS version for 2016. PS: Nice video. Without it, I would have been frustrated by several other nonsensical things about installing SQL Server 2016.
Hello, thx a lot for your video. You explain everything in a very clear form. Maybe you can help me with one problem. When I`m clicking on Download button (as it is shown min 3:40), my computer starts downloading file SQLServer2016-SSEI-Dev.exe and it doesn`t want to follow me to another sheet, so I can`t proceed as you do it. Hope you can help me.
hello hope the wise owl team had a good Christmas coming to the SQL introduction course in February I was just wondering if you could do a updated version of this as the 2016 nor 2017 wont install on my computer but the 2019 one does thankyou
Hi Harrison! I'd probably just skip straight to the 2022 version of SQL Server Developer Edition www.microsoft.com/en-us/sql-server/sql-server-downloads It's unlikely that we'll have a new version of this video before you attend your training course but the installation process is pretty similar to that shown in this video.
your videos are always the best on youtube! you rock! could u help me with a problem? i installed too many sql instances (i tried intalleing a few times, and appearantly instaleed some extras) how to i delete the extra instances?
These are great info! One question. If you install and configure a database with a coalitation type and want to change it later, what problems will that cause down the line?
Hi, been trying to install SQL2016 on my unit and have been getting failed installations on a few of the features all having the error as: 'attempted to perform an unauthorised operation'. Ive looked online for a resolution but nothing seems to help. have you come across something like this before?
Hi, I just took and passed my 98-364 DBA Fundamentals. I'm now ready to start studying for my 70-764 and 70-765. Will this video get me through those exams? Also, I am running on Windows 7. so if I use 2014 with this, I'm wondering how far off I'll be. I'm not doing the 2012/2014 because I'm trying not to take 3 tests.
@WiseOwlTutorials thanks for the video, what if i missed add myself/current windows user as server administrator? can i also find the security folder from the SSMS tools and find myself's name and tick the 'serveradmin'? will it do the same thing?
When I clicked the download link, it didn't take me to "Download Results" page where it posted the prerequisites. It straight away downloaded. So I just proceeded like that.... Hope it will work fine....
Great videos mate, Just one thing, How do you set up the server for the reports to go to? I have been banging my head to make it happen. Is It all automated when setting the Native Mode Report Service upon installation of SQL server?
Yeah, done all that!! I'm just trying to do a fresh install and try customize it so I choose the native mode. A big ask, Would this work in a VM? (Virtual machine).
Hi WiseOwlTutorials, Thanks for all the SQL videos and I had first handson experience installing sqlserver 2016 today and encountered following error message at the end of installation. I followed your guide except my instance is default name. "Wait on the Database Engine recovery handle failed. Check the SQL server error log for potential causes" .. according to google, Change the Account Name of Database Engine Service to NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE and it should work..but i tried. it doesn't and it keeps failing to install. Im trying install evaluation version of sql2016 instead of developer. I hope you can help to advise me on this issue. Thanks alot
Hello! I can't find the microsoft sql server on that page... Have they changed the name? I can only see sql server....I am not sure which one I should use for my report builder on windows 10.. I also just noticed that I should be selecting the custom installation but will the basic be good enough?
Hi Lee! Microsoft have released SQL Server 2017 and 2019 since this video was recorded, for the latest free version (SQL Server 2019 at the time of writing) head to this page www.microsoft.com/en-ie/sql-server/sql-server-downloads and scroll down to find the link for the Developer Edition. You'll also need to install SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) which you can grab here docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/sql/ssms/download-sql-server-management-studio-ssms?view=sql-server-ver15 I hope that helps!
@@WiseOwlTutorials I noticed that you have missed out the polybase installation... it is asking me if I want to use the standalone head node or the port range?
Thank you for the reply and link, and for the great videos! My hopes are that others will benefit from the question and reply. I was able to figure most of it out and have moved on to your SSRS videos. I am still working through some issues with properly displaying the SQL Server Reporting Services page on the web, but continue to review your videos as well as read through the information on the Web Service and Web Portal URL, it appears I have some permissions or path issues to resolve, but can at least get to my reports. Again thanks for what you do!
Hi, I previously installed an instance of SQL express 2016. During the installation, I noticed there were only about 2 features, but i went through with it anyway. After watching this video i noticed that the installer size was 2GB, while mine was around 400MB. Is there a way i can add up the other features in the future without having to uninstall the whole thing and installing it again? Thanks

Hi! I just have 2 questions regarding MS SQL Developer Edition. I downloaded SQL Server Dev. edition and Visual Studio Comunity edition for learning purposes. I am creating a windows app using C# and would like to connect it to a database of SQL server developer edition as backend. Is that allowed as long as I don't use it for commercial purposes? Thank you in advance! Cheers!
For someone commenting on a "tutorial" video, you really lack the ability to describe what it is that needs to be further explained. The install went rather seamless on my end.

Superb timing as just about to start my first SQL project (2016). Looking forward to watching this series.

There is a fountain of information in every video I watch.
Just donated. I feel I've learned at least as much from your videos as I have from several books.
Very well done. Clear, concise, not too fast, not too slow. Thank you.

for someone making a "tutorial" video, he really lacks in explaining a lot of things
