the soldier that got his head smashed with a sledgehammer was a Syrian soldier that was fighting along with the Russians against ISIS and all the enemies against the Assad Regime. he tried to flee the war and walked right into a Russian military camp (Wagner) unbeknownst to him. Thats how that torture footage got viral.
We're talking about the Russian who deserves Wagner to fight for Ukraine but was handed back by the Russian authorities. They also torture that Syrian but that's an entirely different story.
Duncan's vision of Russia is pretty distorted. I don't even know where to start. The amount of political prisoners in Russian jails is very small. Nobody really gives a damn if you agaist Putin or not unless you screamin it in the square. Prigozhin recruited prisoners on a voluntary basis. He declared few rules: no drugs or alcohol; no raping or looting; no desertion. The punishment for any of these things is death. The guy who got his head smashed surved his time in jail for murderring a cop 17 years ago or something like that. He was a thug, make no mistake about it. He decided to use Wagner group as his way out of prison and ran to other side of battlefield as soon as he got a chance. Even after his interview to Ukranian media, where he said all the right words (Putin is bad, I wanna fight with you guys against Russia etc.), they exchanged him back to us. I bet Prigozhin gave a lot to get him back. I don't know nothing about this war and still I know a 100 times more than Duncan.
