Wet on wet and wet on dry is literally the heartbeat of watercolor and I felt like we allll could use the refresher! What other techniques would you like a refresher on?
Kristy dear, I''m 76 so I give myself the liberty of referring to everyone as "dear". I've copied this page 2x & shall again. Thank you for these simple lesson for a beginner. I think of them as building blocks. I'm an eager painter .. It adds so much to my day. Thank you for letting me copy or not.
I love your channel. You and Emma J are the best and the easiest to follow! I started out with water color pencils, but I gave them to my granddaughter. I'm all in to learning with REAL paint and brushes!
Super beginner here. I just wanted to say..... you make me excited to start this journey!!! instead of stressed. Thank you. 💜 ok, back to binge watching you..... 😊
So funny, as you were saying “ if your not painting yet I know you will be soon”, I was getting my space and paper ready. Heard my laughter and kept going. 😉
I love you and your painting! The joy you have and your sense of humor is so much fun to watch! I'm new to watercolor and I get that same amazement when I see that color move! I look forward to learning from you! Thank you! 🎨😍
I loved doing the flower with the bright colours and the vibrant dots of yellow and purple. I will need to get a different white, as my one wasn't opaque enough to show like your one. Loving this new learning! 😍
Wow, so glad you commented on my post in Watercolor Beginners! First beginner tutorial I have watched that didn't stress me out! LOL Maybe I will actually learn to get looser and more relaxed with my painting by watching you! Thank you!!!
I have been wanting to start watercolor painting for over 5 years, and last night I decided to go for it. I found your videos right away. I love you! You style of teaching, your approach to painting, your philosophy overall, sings to me. I'm not scared anymore. I'm so excited!!! Thank you ❤️
Kristy, you are a great teacher with a very good instruction. I love to follow your instructions to practice and hope to find my way out. Thanks again.
Watched this twice then attempted it on my own. I had fun! The ONLY reason i paint is for the joy of it. My paintings will never hang on anyones wall ( except my own) but i love learning and exploring and your tutorials sure encourage just that.
So glad I discovered you!! I love your presentations and art, you are so cute and calming and very artistic!! Your no-stress presentations helps a lot!!!
I know I'm late to the party, but WOW, when you added the blue to the green and it blended in -- It was MY " Lemon moment". I'm loving your videos, thanks so much for sharing your wealth of creative knowledge ♥
Really appreciate your humor and approach toward art (surrender ... LOVE it!). RUclips needs more people like you to inspire others to find their inner muse. I'm learning a ton too. Great job :)
I adore your approach at drawing and teaching especially. How you're not obsessing over the brands and the colors and the paper quality it's so freeing and beautiful and stress free. You really inspire me to try more and be more free. I will follow this channel forever and grow and grow. God bless you.❤
I really enjoyed your video. I am just starting my painting journey and I am excited but not sure if i can do it. Listening to you, you make it seem possible. Thank you. I am going to be watching your videos for inspiration and encouragement. Mike
Starting over again: I now have Academy paper ❤, makes such a difference! Well worth the extra cost - anyway how might one put a price on Joy? So very exciting🔥 at last I am truly experiencing WOW 😁
I'm just now finding you, very late.. I have cheap but decent beginner paper, very thick... I was hoping you could tell me why the page buckles so much if the pooling is good? I love the way it looks and blends when I use a lot of water, but then the paper dries very warped. I have tried to use slightly less water but then the colors won't blend. I'm wondering if it is the paper? Or am I doing something wrong? Love your videos, thank you for sharing
I love your videos. I tried to find your line of brushes on Amazon but was not successful. Anywhere else that I could find them? Keep up the good work!
Kristy, I absolutely love the way you teach!🥰 Could you please tell me where to get the Academy Paper and the dagger brush? I have a few different types of watercolor paper( cold pressed 140 lb.) I don’t know if I’m not wetting my paints enough or the paper because I don’t get that amazing reaction like you do🤷🏻♀️ I am a beginner. I am 63 years old and when I say " Beginner" I mean at drawing and watercolors. I have painted along with you and I am soooo happy with what I have learned so far and you really make it fun and exciting! Thank you so much for teaching this old gal how to create some beautiful art.🥰
So I actually love using white gesso because I find it to be the most impactful white and I love the dimension it offers too. Gesso also bullies watercolor around on the page in the most incredible way!
@@KristyRice thanks! I bought some on the weekend. The smallest size they had is 500ml. Do you think a wee glass jam jar (think sample size) would be okay to use for Gesso for daily use?
I'm getting discouraged. I love the effects of the watercolors but I can't seem to judge the amount of water I put on my page. It always curls and buckles, especially when I love a particular painting. Is there a way to flatten the paper after it buckles???????😩😩😩😩😩

Awesome tutorial, Kristy! Very inspiring! I will give it a go! Thank you!!

Please do!
Love your style, question - you grab "scrap paper" to make a few designs. What do you use? I end of using watercolor paper I cut down. Suggestions?
I sometimes use the back of paintings I don't really care for, or I use scraps of cut down paper.
Starting over again: I now have Academy paper ❤, makes such a difference! Well worth the extra cost - anyway how might one put a price on Joy? So very exciting🔥 at last I am truly experiencing WOW 😁

Nope! Nothing wrong :) Paper warps… you can tape the paper down to a surface and that will help some… what brand are you using?
I love your videos. I tried to find your line of brushes on Amazon but was not successful. Anywhere else that I could find them? Keep up the good work!
Sold out until this weekend. Hop on our email list to be the first notified! www.kristyrice.com

My academy paper is on Amazon and so is my brush set! Just search travel watercolor brushes there :)
@@KristyRice Thank you so much! I will definitely check that out.
Which white ink do you recommend? Do you like using white ink better than white gouache?
So I actually love using white gesso because I find it to be the most impactful white and I love the dimension it offers too. Gesso also bullies watercolor around on the page in the most incredible way!

Thank you!
When will your 1/4” dagger brush be available?.
It's looking to be about 10 days :)
Thanks- will it be on Amazon?
Hi! What did you use for white? Is that ink?
Gesso :)
Oh I hope the re-launch of your channel means longer videos!! 45 seconds of you is not enough!! LOL!!
That is exactly what it means!!! Yay!
@@KristyRice WAHOOO!!!!!
YES!!! AGREED!!
Which inks are you using?
Dr Ph Martins!

You can gently roll the paper in the opposite direction or store it under some heavy books over night.
I will try this method. Thank you.
I iron my paper after it dries and buckles

This is my 1/4 inch dagger brush
My colors do not look as rich as yours, I use good paper and holbein paints but the colors are dull compared to yours.
What paper are you using?
