How to Make Your Own Cane Doors

  • I made my own custom cane doors and I'm in love! Here is a step by step tutorial to show you how you can make your own doors too. If you want to add caning to an existing door you have, this video is for you as well. I'll show you how I made my own door out of wood, and added caning to the middle of it as a design feature. Working with caning is easier than you think and in this video I'll show you how to use it and secure it!

    The set up for the rabbit is backwards. Use a sacrificial or split adjustable fence so the rabbit is on the inside and a feather board to hold the work against the fence. This protects the fingers and uses the correct cutting edge of the router bit. Biscuit or lap joinery works well if you aren’t into mortise and tenons.

    What kind of "thin wood strips" did you use to secure in place? How thick did you cut those strips down to? I'm unable to get anything less than a cm without it splitting!
