The 'Of Man and Manta trilogy' (Omnivore, Orn and 0X) is my favourite. I'm intrigued to hear what you make of it. And Philip Jose Farmer is excellent. He also wrote a 'biography' of Doc Savage.
That was fun, lots of novels with interesting art, goofy art, pulpy art etc. all around pretty great what you've added to your collection I'd say. I haven't read any Piers Anthony yet either... will probably turn to "Macroscope" when I do because it's already in my collection and I've heard from some people it's an unique take on a SF story. Looking forward to Ira and you discussing "Bug Jack Barron" and finding out whether it's actually any good 🙃
I've read three books by David Mace, including Demon 4...although I never did have the edition with the Chris Foss cover. It was the Chris Foss cover that got me to take a chance on Nightrider, which was such a strange and cold reading experience that I decided also to read Fire Lance, which was easy to find back in the day, and Demon 4, which was not easy to find and a book I decided to order, finally, about eight years ago. I ended up with the Ace edition, which has an okay cover - but I'm envious of that Granada edition you have (and in great shape!). Mace writes in a sort of soul-sucking style and not much actually happens in his books, but I found him somehow hypnotic anyway; Fire Lance was my favourite. Space for Hire - and its sequel, Look Out for Space - by William F. Nolan, are very funny, but also very offensive a lot of the time. Big winners in the Not Aged Well derby. I mean, you would have some interesting things to mention, if you read Space for Hire and pulled it apart in a video. I read Telepath by Arthur Sellings and was not all that happy with it - not inclined to read more by him. Undersea Fleet is one of the first SF novels I remember reading. What was I? - Ten years old? Eleven? Eventually I read the whole trilogy. Sort of Young Adult, but the last two books are fun. I got into SF via undersea stuff - Twenty Thousand Leagues and so on - and the cover of Undersea Fleet had a sea monster and a submarine; I ended up reading a lot of Jack Williamson (why I gravitated to him and not to Pohl, I have no idea - Williamson's books always looked more appealing to young me?). I loved Bug Jack Barron when I read it in the late 1980s - and like Space for Hire, of all things, I have it at a 5-star rating...but, also like Space for Hire, if I re-read either of those two books, I think I might have a completely different reaction to them now. Would some content strike me totally different than it did when I was a young, carefree, slightly vacuous lad? I don't know; I'm so looking forward to you and Ira discussing nothing but Bug Jack Barron. This should be good.
Awesome book haul, Jake. That’s quite a bargain for less than $100. There are too many interesting books to name, but to name one, “Passing for Human” by Jody Scott looks particularly intriguing.
These covers are so much fun. $1 is a steal. Also, I will see you and King Conan on the 18th. I am strapping on my loin cloth tight! Well, not too tight.
Some nice books there - FYI ‘Journey behind the wind’ is the third in the Song of Wirrun trilogy. Patricia Wrightson is Australian, and the trilogy addresses the mythology and creatures of Indigenous Australia. First 2 books are ‘The Ice is Coming’ and ‘The Dark Bright Water’ -it was first published here in Oz as a YA series in the 70’s.
Ah, that's interesting and good to know. It wouldn't be the first book I started in the middle/end of a series! I'll have my eyes peeled for the other two. Cheers!

Ooh I want that House on the Borderlands. Also I predicted you would have 97 new books (tax). Just looked up Dannus. It's a 5 book series and I NEED them all!! The guy on that last book was definitely painted with Kyle Mclaughlin from the 1984 Dune movie in mind!
Ha no tax, I get 10% off Recycled books which covers tax here in TX. Ugh, you can have my Dannus. Definite Mclaughlin feels. But not in a Dune way...no...this is Twin Peaks Mclaughlin.

Hah, I know what you mean when you were talking about Passing for Human. I’ll pick up a book that looks interesting, but maybe I don’t want it enough to pay money for it, so I put it back, pick it back up, put it back… my rule now is that if I’m interested enough to pick it up about ten times to read the back cover, I should just buy it already.

Sir Fred Hoyle was an English astronomer who formulated the theory of stellar nucleosynthesis and panspermia. His son Geoffrey wrote some novels with him. 'The Black Cloud' by Hoyle is a classic hard SF novel. Have that same cheesy cover for 'The Incandescent Ones'. I don't think Sir Fred was pleased with his publisher.
Think the value of that one book is just the author's name: Ernest Blow. Get it? And those Ace Science Fiction Specials are really kind of valuable. Moreover, Space Tug is erotica, not science fiction.
