    13:23 model/miniature makers also have this problem with finishes dulling their contrast and highlights. The glossier, the worse it is usually.
    Try using a more matt finish than gloss, and also make the highlights much brighter/more contrasting than you would normally think to do before applying the finish… as always experimenting on scraps before committing like we all have done before 😂
    Cool vid, love the knotwork.

    I like that orange fall leaf. I recently bought a western oil canvas duster and since I bought it I have been thinking since the shoulder cape is removable it might be cool to have a couple with various designs on it. Doing up a bunch of leaves up like the ones you did and using that would make for a rather interesting option.

    Hey Magnus! Just got around to watching this one. This type of thing is actually some of the first projects I've done. Yours look great!
    Just some more ideas that worked for me- on leaves, try a double beveller in the veins. Looks nice if you use a pear shader in some places to push in shapes too. For the sticks I used the really heavy bamboo skewers, and once cut to length, sharpened the ends in a pencil sharpener. Then just sand it smooth.
    I do Celtic knotwork too, and if you're up to trying more, you can learn simpler ways to get basic shapes with a laid out framework of dots and breaklines. Then it almost does itself. Of course, you'd still have to do the embellishing parts free hand. Keeping it creative! Thanks for the awesome videos.

    • @lori-annallen9186
      @lori-annallen9186 5 лет назад

      Oh, and I don't know if you have ever used any vegetan belly- but don't for these. Too stretchy and the shape gets wonky since there's no structure to the piece to hold it firm. But you probably knew that. ;)

    Always strop the blade! Disposable blades too. You’ll get YEARS out of blade and its never dull. I still have my cheap chinese skiving knife and its deadly sharp 2 years later. I strop it every day I use it. The blade edge is a mirror.
    Also theres a difference between honing, polishing and sharpening. Learn when to apply them to always keep your blades sharp.

    • @funkyspacecow

      Try a diamond stone and/or charging a leather strop with diamond honing paste. Lee Valley (woodworking supply catalog) stocks diamond stones and honing paste if you don't know where to find it. Note: I've not done this with a ceramic blade but there's no reason it shouldn't work since the diamonds will be harder than the blade.
