A few of my clients were interested in this new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 and asked me if I was in the know... I did some quick research and ended up here. Thanks Lisa, as always, I love your no hype no nonsense reviews. Thanks!
how does this compare against the new surface pro? thinking of getting one for on the go, but can't decide. i like the thinkpad keyboard though, slightly more .xlsx-friendly to work with. need those f1-f12 home end pgup pgdn del buttons to be independent!
Hello Lisa - I own the ThinkPad x1 Tablet 2 Gen LTE i7-7Y75 16GB RAM 256 SSD. My experience using the device is contrary, in that as long as the device is plugged in and the settings set to maximum performance then the CPU performs at high levels? Do you think it's really not suited for "heavy lifting," considering the Turbo rate you mentioned are comparable to customary mobile i7, yet my device when plugged in, usually can stay mostly above the 3.0GHz range, and when unplugged it can average little less around 2.5GHz. Given you reviewed the i5 version, do you think the i7 could be suited for "heavy lifting"? Thanks for your earliest convenience to answering my inquiry. David
Hello Lisa, I am from Germany and have now after the third generation of the Lenovo tablets appeared (unfortunately with active cooling), for less than 1,000 € / dollar granted this second generation :-) I'm actually thrilled, but had a problem with the first set up: During Windows Updates (#1803 and 1809 - the big ones), my tablet no longer loads temporarily. Do you know this phenomenon or is my tablet defective? Thank you and best regards from germany
Hi Lisa, great review! How does this stack up to the Miix 510? I'm going back between the three. Love the price point of the 510, but love the build and rigidity of the X1.
Hey Lisa, nice review, I already enjoyed the 1 gen review. I am in a dilemma at the moment because I have to chose between the X1 Tablet (2 gen) and the Yoga 370 ThinkPad for my next company workhorse for the upcoming 3 years. I do work a lot in trains as a project manager for a large company and I wonder which device is better for heavy daily work? The Yoga 370 is faster but has a lower resolution (however more screen property), the X1 Tablet is thinner and has a higher resolution but a smaller screen. Weight is not an issue for me. What is your opinion?
Hi Lisa. Any chance to review the Lenovo X1 Yoga 2nd Generation? Do you know if it is compatible with other Wacon pens for better drawing experience? Love your work!! Keep it up!!
Lisa, any ideas on why is everyone trying to reinvent the tried and tested clamshell design by replacing it with unbalanced, flimsy, hideous, kick stand contraptions? FYI: I've owned and smashed/sold every Surface device and have now returned to a regular clamshell Thinkpad, vowing never to return to ridiculous kickstands.
I have been researching machines for a while and the ones with kickstands, while they are nice and sleek, always have me wondering. Is it going to stay up? And just the very fact there is a kickstand means you need MORE surface area for your machine to sit on.
It strikes me that if the keyboard could also be used over bluetooth this would be a much better value. The position you show it using the pico projector seems also best for using with pen input, but I'm assuming the keyboard must be detached for that position. If there is something there I'm missing though, please correct me. Thanks for the review!
The quickest and easiest fix that'd make a big improvement for any customer that Lenovo could make to all of its Thinkpads is simply to calibrate the display before packaging it.
Great review - as usual! Would you consider a review of Google home? How about a smack down between Home vs. Alexa? Or even just an update on when Google Home users like me will see that update announced earlier this year?
Hi, Lisa. Thanks for your review. Can you please, made the play list for Thinkpad only in your channel? Because, I am a Thinkpad fanboy so I can repeat saw your video in your channel. Thanks again and again....
I have a surface pro 4 and it sufferes from the flickering screen when it gets heated up. I think i will get one of these on ebay for around 340$ used. I can say as an artist i prefer wacom technology than the surface pro 4's ntrig. Ntrig just isnt up to par. The other thing that I like about this lenovo vs the surface pro 4 is that the power input is a modular usb c type instead of proprietary cable like the surface. It may not be as powerful but you actually open up the lenovo and replace parts unlike the pro 4 which youd need a heat gun and careful hands. Pro4 has better tech but microsoft has quality issues and the screen flickering when the pro4 gets hot makes the lenovo a better choice. Do not trust anything microsoft. I use sketchbook pro and photoshop and honestly if you use sketchbookpro with this lenovo you should be fine for fast sketching and linework.
baris malcioglu No, the port is simply USB 3.1 (10 Gbps), not Thunderbolt (40 Gbps). The new ThinkPad X1 Tablet Generation 3 (Available February 2018) has two Thunderbolt ports built into the tablet. But its screen has grown to 13.5 inch (3000x2000), so you can't use the add-on modules. And the Gen. 3 will not get new modules. If you want to use a module, you must use a ThinkPad X1 Gen. 1 or Gen. 2.
Cool cool, really looking forward to that. I really respect your reviews the most 👌 an xps 13 comparison would be good as well if you manage to get a hold of one
I actually considered this machine and the modular thing seemed goofy to me, and the pen hanging off was odd. I felt like I’d beat it to death around the office and on the train. I bought a Yoga 370 instead despite the weight difference.
Hey man, how do you like the Yoga 370? I am deciding between the X1 Table and the 370 as well.... How is the screen? The higher resolution of the X1 Tablet is actually the only thing that makes me considering it. I do not mind the weight, I only need a machine that can last 3 years and is fast enough to handle heavy office work.... Thanks
I'm really impressed with screen and just the machine overall. I held / tested both and the X1 Tablet is certainly thinner and lighter, but I didn't need that level of thin for an extra $300, and didn't need a 2K or 4K display on a machine this size. This PC is really fantastic, quick, lovely bright screen, great keyboard with the lift & lock feature, effortlessly flips to a tablet form factor and has nice handwriting recognition tools. Once a spent a couple of hours getting Windows 10 setup to my liking, everything's been running really well. The hinge / case / build are all what you'd expect from a Thinkpad which is ANOTHER reason I didn't go with an Ideabook based Yoga machine. I picked up a few accessories for it during my order as well but the best is the Lenovo Pen Pro: www3.lenovo.com/us/en/accessories/pens-and-supplies/pens/TAB-ACC-BO-ThinkPad-Pen-Pro/p/4X80H34887 It has a bit more heft than the included pen and really does make your work go faster being able to sit with the machine on my lap and use a combination of the touchscreen, pen and trackpad has worked very well. If you can live with a three week CTO build time do it, or there are quick ship models out there available on Amazon for a fairly pretty price.
Thomas Failor wow, thank you for the detailed reply! I just ordered the yoga 370 and I'm really looking forward to it. Will definitely order the pen pro!
Awesomeness. I got the Core i5, 8GB w/ a 128 Sata3 SSD and it's still really fast running office and such like that. I stuck a 128 GB SD card in the side for file / picture storage and it fits the bill. I hope you're as happy with yours as I am!
I think the design of this tablet must have some serious flaw. It has the same size and weight as the Surface Pro, its screen is smaller (12 vs 12.3 inch, also with much lower resolution) and processor is weaker (core m vs core i), yet the battery life is so much shorter than the Surface Pro. Normally the reason to sacrifice screen and processor is to get longer battery life, but how could it has much shorter battery life? I don't know how this tablet could compete with the Surface Pro.
Nan Qin quite late response, but the main reason would likely be because the X1 tablet has mil-spec developments. these could have affected the design elements and weight. the surface products don't have mil-spex ratings and arw straightforward designwise.
Sorry but this is not a "darn light " laptop. And 1kg for the keyboard? Did i hear that right???? Very light means below or at 1kg (2 pounds). Check elitebook folio g1, samsung 9 etc
I'm begging you MobileTechReview please do a review on a best netbook or tablet for Autocad,Sketchup, Illustrator, Photoshop usage ! I would be infinitely grateful!
Hello, I was wondering about this laptop www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/productdetails/xps-13-9360-laptop and if you have done a review on this version. If you are able to answer, I would like to know how the speakers are, if it can support 2D animation, how long it might last and if it is worth it at it's price. If it's not the best, it would be helpful to know if there are something different (Prefered to have a headphone jack, speakers, doesn't turn into a pad, to have windows 10 and on the lighter and less expensive side)
why? Its the only tablet I know that has 'infinite' runtime with this external battery. Thats one of the reasons why people love ThinkPads. I also own 2 batteries for my T460p. In theory you can go to north pol and just pack a ThinkPad and 100 batteries and you're set :P
You ought to try one out. Mine is a fantastic alternative to a traditional 90 degree laptop, the ability to flip to presentation mode, tablet mode has it's uses and this is the machine I carry around the office every day while my hunk-of-junk HP 800G1 sits locked to it's dock. Plain and simple it's a Thinkpad and the build quality is excellent.
Nice review Lisa! Hey I was wondering if you could review the Lenovo Legion Y720 laptop, it looks like a real nice gaming laptop for about $1000.00. www3.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/lenovo-legion-y-series-laptops/Legion-Y720-15IKB/p/88GMY700794
I bought this machine and started to have problem with powering back after it goes to sleep...I already send it to support and supposdly they fixed it but the problem returned..after it happen to me 3 times I decided I cant trust it anymore and I wanted to return it but they refuse even its still under warranty and customer support answer to help me was to hang up!!!! STAY Away from lenovo product
Amen. Who cares what it costs if you use it until you're absolutely sick of it. You can have all the $400 laptops you want, but I'd never buy one again.

Omg... I bought an old droid in 2011 because of a review you did. I'm astonished at the consistency and quantity of your content... Subbed!
Your re reviews are always professional.
What's the maximum resolution and refresh rate of the mini displayport output?
I always press the like button before I see your videos! Best reviews out there!
Concise and useful review, nice job Lisa!
I found this review "Humerus" :)

thank you. Is the keyboard bluetooth? can you use it detached? :)
The text entry field kept coming out during your onenote/pen demo. Did that annoy you?
They sell Pro Pen and Pro Pen accessories
well done :D
great review, real expertise
Yes! Another Lenovo Tablet! Thanks for the review :)
How are the cameras? Do they have point focus?
Hello Lisa, I am from Germany and have now after the third generation of the Lenovo tablets appeared (unfortunately with active cooling), for less than 1,000 € / dollar granted this second generation :-) I'm actually thrilled, but had a problem with the first set up: During Windows Updates (#1803 and 1809 - the big ones), my tablet no longer loads temporarily. Because people are lazy and can't carry anything of any weight, so manufacturers continue to make their stuff lighter and lighter all the time.
I have been researching machines for a while and the ones with kickstands, while they are nice and sleek, always have me wondering. Is it going to stay up? And just the very fact there is a kickstand means you need MORE surface area for your machine to sit on.
Thanks for the review. When are you going to review the ThinkPad P71?
It strikes me that if the keyboard could also be used over bluetooth this would be a much better value. If there is something there I'm missing though, please correct me. Thanks for the review!
And again - nice tablet, but the runtime ruins it. I am really looking forward to the review of the Eve V.
if you want to use it at an art pad angle, you turn it over. the way Lenovo shows it with the projector attached.
So I guess the notable difference between the 1st generation and the 2nd generation is just the intel core i5?
The quickest and easiest fix that'd make a big improvement for any customer that Lenovo could make to all of its Thinkpads is simply to calibrate the display before packaging it.
"This one feels like you could bash a burglar with it".... LOL. Your reviews are the best Lisa!

Can we replace its screen? Because my computer was line in its screen and need to be repaired.
what Microphone do u use?
It's a proprietary Sony wireless for their cameras.
Hi, Lisa. Thanks for your review. Can you please, made the play list for Thinkpad only in your channel? Because, I am a Thinkpad fanboy so I can repeat saw your video in your channel. Thanks again and again....
can you review the thinkpad yoga 370?
Conclusion battery is crappy. But how fast is the usb c charge?
how is the program called that you draw on
Great review! I would love to se a review of the lenovo legion y720 laptop. i'm thinking of buying it but there aro not a lot of reviews on it.
Hi, can you do a video for X1 Tablet 2Gen Vs New WIndows Surface Pro 4?

Ooooh....been waiting for this. Bestest, Prettiest, Reviewer Who Would Bash A Burglar.
handquake I gotta use that phrase more often...
Knock Yourself out...never thought I'd have the chance to toss it around. :-)
Can I use a ThinkPad keyboard on a Surface Pro?
Nothing important to say, just the first comment and first like :D I love you all, you have a great day! 😊

Aww thanks buddy!
Love the shirt
The new Core "M" i5 and i7s are much better than the Skylake units according to Geekbench.
Aweosme video!

X1 Yoga 2017 review please.
LISA. PLEASE review the new 13 inch razer blade stealth?!
You wrote "2650x1440," but that isn't 3:2? What's the true res?
Kiyoshi Matsutsuyu I think it's 2160 x 1440 like the surface pro 3 :)
uhh, I think I'll stay with my x220t. Seems like ok competition to the surface pro with that sexy trackpoint, tho.
Pls can you review the Asus zenbook 3 deluxe? I might buy one soon and don't want to be bent over for $1700
I've been trying to get a hold of one. Asus hasn't been great about getting us review loaners lately.
Cool cool, really looking forward to that. I really respect your reviews the most 👌 an xps 13 comparison would be good as well if you manage to get a hold of one

how about the eve V tablet?
They've had delays, so we're still waiting for our review loaner.
I love your shirt :)

Review the third generation of this tablet please!

Wtf ? This hinge seems like the worst idea ever. oO
Zoomat4 I do not know what the designers of this calculator smoked, but it was a strong stuff

Szymon Nowak according to other reviews it's better for typing on the lap.
please review the 3rd generation!!!!!!!!!
Should have mentioned the pen hanging off the side like a limp you know what.
Nice review Lisa! Hey I was wondering if you could review the Lenovo Legion Y720 laptop, it looks like a real nice gaming laptop for about $1000.00.

As it's Lenovo, I'd avoid it like the plague. Their ongoing support is laughable.
Not a long video, still 13 minutes long. Great video though, well worth the false advertising :P!
Can’t up to win11.
I really like thinkpads, but tablets shouldn't have a charging brick.
If I am going to spend that kind money on a tablet I might as well get a Surface Pro. Lenovo used to be affordable, not anymore.
thinkpads are typically targeting businesses so they tend to be expensive but I agree I'd rather get a surface
It's a Thinkpad, they're always expensive. The Ideapad or the regular Lenovo lines are the ones that are more market priced.
Thinkpads never been affordable, but they last forever.
Amen. Who cares what it costs if you use it until you're absolutely sick of it. You can have all the $400 laptops you want, but I'd never buy one again.
Market priced? To whom? If you're spending $399 on a laptop you're getting a piece of junk and you should expect it to die within two years.
hi friend, im re-upload
Horrible design flaw! I don't want my tablet flipping over like that all the time...no thanks. I stick with the surface pro 3
It feels like you could bash a burglar with this. Very laudible 🤣🤣
yee ! another laptop that i cant afford !
This Intel sticker on the stand.. whyyyyy
intel core i5 ram i5 16 gigs ram surface pro ports usb c i5 ram i5 cover i5 ... meh..
WTF, Lenovo 2017 ??? like Casio 1998...
I can't believe how we can have this very ugly device in 2017. The pen is not even completely attached. Just horrible
Great review, I always wonder who buy this sh*t....
Sorry but this thing is really ugly. Reminds me of my first Laptop i bought 17 years ago... - especially that keyboard.
It feels like you could bash a burglar with this. Very laudible 🤣🤣
