FYI: If you end up trying this wash and go combo, you may want to wait to add any oil or hair serum and use a lighter leave-in. If you don’t you may experience a bunch of frizzy, puffy and undefined roots like I did . 🫣😆 My hair wasn’t able to properly set due to using a too much of my thicker leave-in and my oil while my hair was still wet. Had I allowed my hair to dry first the results would have been better. I still thought it was petty and I rocked it for a few days. 🥰
I have been natural since about 2004 or 05. People are making natural hair way too complicated. Use clarifying or chleating shampoo on your hair at least every 4-6 weeks, focus on both moisture and hydration, deep condition with heat as needed, moisturize as needed, and prep your hair with heat protectant if using heat. The policing of BW and mixed womens hair (that have a Black parent) is insane! We should enjoy the versatility of our hair. I am sorry you have had so much hair drama, but I am glad you are back on track and enjoying your hair! We appreciate you sharing with us! I would love to hear your opinion on wash n gos.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I totally agree with you that we should be able to enjoy our hair without all the rules and drama. I’m just SO OVER IT! It’s time to have fun again! 🙌🏽🥳 Yes, I’ll share my thoughts on wash and goes. I just think I’m going to have some very unpopular opinions! 👀🫣😬
Thank you so much!! 🥰 I’m excited how far my hair has come but I’m even more excited to break away from all the rules and judgement that still exist. 😝 I hope to maintain all my curls but if not, I realize that’s okay. It’s not the end of the world especially since I really don’t plan to wear wash and goes that often. 😅
The natural hair community is a mess for so many reasons. They're multiple communities within the community and natural hair still doesn't have as much research on it compared to other hair types. I wish they had Afro textured hair in mind when it came to cosmetology but since they don't every stylists had to come up with there own methods and ideology(no butter s, no oils etc) for how to take care of natural hair. We think all stylists are qualified to speak on natural hair even when their work or track record with natural hair health is extremely poor. We follow a hair typing system that puts us last, was created by someone that said our hair was the weakest and least versatile and isn't even accurate since hair pattern, porosity, density etc is on a spectrum. We should look into the basic science of hair and how products work and make hair care practices based on that instead of following trends and listening any and everybody.
You're absolutely right! We've got some work to do to figure it all out! I just we could do it without all the rules and judgement. I personally chose to no longer entertain any of it. I’m going to do whatever I want to my hair whenever I want! Thank you for sharing your perspective. I think it’s spot on❣️
I definitely understand where you're coming from. Being in the community became exhausting for me also. From the products being constantly thrown at us, the constant misinformation, being shamed for what products we use, or even the confusion with hair type / porosity. On top of that most of the products people recommended didn't work for my hair, so It started becoming too much and wash day started to feel like a chore. What really did it for me was when the no oils no butters stuff started getting popular. At that point I was so tired of all the rules that when they said you had to pay to get the information I was like eff that I'm going back to my roots. Lbvs I went back to using some of the old products I used to use and have a much simpler routine now. I felt so much happier once I just focused on what I know what works for my hair, not what everyone else has going on.
I enjoy watching your videos. Whatever hair videos you want to share, I am here for it! I love your hair and various iterations of styles you try out. There's a space and medium for everything 🤗 I've redefined what "natural" is for me. I may blow out my hair, wear a WNG or twist my hair, or put in braids. What I've taken from the community and licensed hairstylist is to do less and keep my hair cleansed and trimmed. I'm much happier, and my hair is thriving. Plus, I'm trying out wigs and textured clip-ins to mix it up and have fun.😢
Hey Shelly, make your own rules! I will still watch. I am transitioning from relaxer to natural to become a straight hair natural myself. Atleast the chemicals are GONE! :) Happy New Year 2025! 🎉
Thank you Sis! 💕 I’m glad you’re transitioning and know how you want to wear it. The sad part is some will try and judge you because you want to wear it straight which is so ridiculous!😝
They definitely didn’t need to come out the gate with an attitude especially with the prices they charge. I’m on a path to healing myself and my hair. I’m working with a trichologist to get my hair back on track and I’m making great progress.
Happy New Year (almost!). You've got to do what makes you happy. I tried a few things from the natural hair community and just stopped, it was making my hair routine far too complex and I thought what is going on this is not right. I use sulfate shampoos, deep conditioner and a hair butter plus I blowdry my hair. My hair ok, growing and as curly as ever. Finding my own forever products as I realised some influencers are less than honest and you can't trust what they recommend. We just have to go through our own hair trials and errors. My next stage is finding a good hairdresser to really help me to achieve my hair goals.
I’m so glad you paused and started just doing what works for your hair! Girl most of these influencers are solely motivated by money and will sell their soul for it! I personally trust very few too!💯
Girl, do what makes you happy because we are all getting older and make yourself happy. I went back and forth so many times, right now my hair is flat ironed and been that way for the whole month of December. It’s easier and I wanted easier during the holidays. I’m not doing for heat training purposes but if the hair loosens I’m not mad. I’m 41 and doing what I feel. I have to wash and not sure if I wanna blow it out or wear it curly but either way I’ll be alright, and so will you dear. I still use grease and silicones and I still got hair😂.
@@shelly.v.247 Yes!! And I like channels that show what our hair can do. Your hair is not my hair, and you might suggest a product or hair care line. I may or may not try it, but I enjoy seeing black people style their natural hair. Do what makes you happy. Please continue to make videos. Happy New Year!
🤣🤣🤣 why you playing!!?? Omg. I was about to say “ is your husband gonna see this?l lol 😂 had to post this comment only a few seconds into the video. lol had me scared 😳
Hey, Shelly! 🙋🏽♀️ I think I was a bit judgemental when I started out too, and the older I get and the more I learn about hair and grow as a person, the more I'm striving to live and let live. As you said, right is right, but we definitely shouldn't be negging others for what they choose to do with their hair. I've really gotten into watching people colour their hair, because there's such a lovely level of freedom and joy from most of them that's refreshing to watch. There are definitely certain hair aspirations that I choose not to speak about on youtube because they're personal to me, and I think we should all have that freedom to show up and choose what we want to share. 😊 Your hair looks great in this video btw! ❤❤❤❤
I absolutely love this comment! You're speaking my language and I'm so grateful you see where I'm coming from. 🥰 I just don’t understand most of it. I don’t understand all the rules and judgement that occurs within the natural hair community. I pray one day it changes. Until then I’m just going to do me whatever that likes like. Also thank you for the sweet compliment. I appreciate you and Happy New Year! 💕😘
I needed to hear this!!! Thank you for your honesty and allowing us to see things from a different perspective. I flat ironed my hair for the first time on Christmas in 8 years and I felt anxious about my curls coming back and then I was like.. I kind of like my hair straight. And planning to book an appointment for a silk press soon. I am over it all too!! Please don’t stop posting. And I would love to hear your thoughts on wash and go’s.
You’re so very welcome Sis! I think we just have to let go of all the rules and judgement regarding our hair. At the end of the day we should not fear enjoying our hair. I’m done with dealing with the anxiety around it. However, I can guarantee you I’m going to ruffle a lot of feathers in the process and I’m sorry not sorry! 🫣😬 I’ll also try recorded my thoughts on wash and goes but it ain’t gonna be pretty! 👀🫣😝
When you speak facts!! I left Instagram for almost four years I was so over naturals lol. I ain’t even want to look at a curl so much I went back relaxed for 6mos 😂. But I’m naturally again.
Something that floors me w/the natural community is there hate for heat as well. Even though I recently experienced heat damage from one flat iron 😓i still believe each head of hair is different. My sister could flat iron her natural hair multiple times a year and absolutely no damage. I reserve the right do whatever I want to do to my hair and I don't use dyes or chemicals, so I am still natural. I did a protein treatment and then a keratin treatment and my curls to an untrained eye look like they are fine, but the damage makes me just want to big chop. I talked to you several times on IG (raising royalty) when this first started w/ the BGCs and how the no oils and butters. I am going to do straight natural things until I decide to start back transitioning from this damage. I most def. understand your sentiments. It's your hair and even though we all nosey and like to know all the things, NO ONE has a right to tell you what to do w/ your hair especially if they aren't contributing any coin to your styles. Look forward to continually watching your hair flourish.
I gasped at the beginning of this video! Thanks for being honest, Shelly. It’s your hair, so do want you want! I subscribed for your personality, so I’m not going anywhere 🙂
@@laurenthomas3748 Haha I know right! lol 😂 I’m just ready to have fun again without all the rules and judgement. 🫣 I appreciate you for sticking with me and I can’t wait to see what all I do or don’t do to this hair. 😍
Gurl! 😂 Listen, if you are black, have natural hair, and do hair videos you will be considered a natural hair influencer and judged accordingly. Just do you, Sweetpea. It’s your hair, your choice, and you’re beautiful!
I know you’re right but I’m on a mission to remove myself from caring about all the rules and judgement that comes with it. I’m ready to fully be free! 🙌🏽♥️🥳
Look, having curly hair is hard. I’m not even gonna lie. So if you wanna straighten your hair GO FOR IT!!! I’ve divorced curly hair multiple times in my life and me no care. I’m here for your videos curly or straight. Bc you’re so cool. 😎 period!!! Plus I’m about to cut my hair again so I can wear it straight in a short style. It’s a first for me but I want to try it. Cute is cute 🥰
Girl I hear you! I’ve done it multiple times too! 🤣 I’m here for all of us to do what brings us happiness and joy! 🤩 Please let us know how your hair comes out! You know we is NOSEY and want to know and see all the things! 💕🤣
Sis I love this for you! Make your own rules for your hair. The magic of our hair is we can braid it, twist it, perm rod it, press it, curl it, whatever! And instead of us knocking off each other's crown, let's love each other's crown and celebrate the beauty of our hair. I will still rock with you in 2025! BTW when I go from a blow out back to wash and go my hair takes at least 4 washes to get back to that springy curl. I use a protein line by CurlMix that is wonderful every 4 weeks. Sorry this comment is so long but continue to share your ups and downs. Many blessings to you!
Exactly Sis! Instead of us knocking off each other’s crowns because we get upset about another queen or kings decision to put heat etc in their hair is wild to me! I truly hope 2025 will be the year of change for everyone. The start of all the goofy rules falling off and folks stopping with all the judgment! Also, I agree with you. After a 2-3 washes my curly typically bounce right back. Especially because I use protein treatments and K18. Happy New Year Luv! May you have a blessed and wonderful year! 💕
Thanks girl. Since I transitioned to my natural hair (2011), I have finally embraced Silk Press Season!!! Yes -- I am rocking a cute bob and I do my own hair. I love my natural hair, but have no desire AT THIS TIME to twist out, braid out, moisturize, seal, O. M. G..... I cannot. But, I sure have been embracing SPS. Love it!
I love that you’re enjoying exploring different ways to wear your natural hair! There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that at all. I hope in 2025 we all start to lean that way and leave all the rules and judgement behind! 💕
Yes please let us know your thoughts on wash and go’s. I also think wash and go’s long term is more suitable on short hair because as the hair grows longer, it tangles more most definitely - at least that is what I have noticed on my hair.
I definitely will! 💕 Yeah, there are a few things about wash and goes that I suspect might not be the best for my hair. I could be wrong but I doubt it. 🤪
Hey Shelley Friend!!! Your content will never be boring ma’am. We will LOVE to see different hairstyles every week. One week silk press, next week pulled back bun, the following week twist out, the week after that wash and go, bantu knots and etc. We love to see it all. It is good to do and try different things (that is with anything in life including hair). One way of the same thing isn’t good because then you have no room to grow. Title for your new series is called “Shelly’s Way”!!!! Happy New Year!!!
@@InJonesWeTrust14 Happy New Year to you as well Luv! ♥️ I love the idea of a Series called “Shelly’s Way!” I think I’m going to use your idea so thank you! 😍😘
I am glad that you’ll still be sharing content in regard to your hair growth and sharing how you retain your length. I have enjoyed your videos and Happy new year 🎉
I’m so glad you like my videos! I’m excited about what’s coming up and I’m excited to continue to share my hair journey! 🤩 Also, Happy New Year Luv! 🎊♥️🥳
Shelly, I love your haircut. It's growing back so fast. Keep doing you, ignore the foolishness. I do the same thing after heat damage I did the big chop. But I love blowing out my hair and getting a good press. We have to remember our hair our head. I use to get the same comments. Some people will see pictures with my hair straight and say you are not considered natural hair. I let comments roll off like rain water. I decided everyone doesn't need a response from me. Once they see I can care less about what they say. They stop talking real quick. Your hair is beautiful and keep doing what makes you happy
I love every aspect of your comment! 😍 Yeah I’m not going to indulge in any of the nonsense regarding how I choose to wear my own hair. If I get heat damage I’m won’t be cutting it off again like last time either. I’m just gonna roll with it and do all the styles I want. It’s going to be so fun!!! 🙌🏽😍🥳
I cancelled the creamy crack in June 2000. I feel like I've seen it all and just rock whatever hairstyle I feel from natural to weaves, crochet braids, etc. How many wash and go video can I watch??? I'm also stepping back from the Product Junkie addiction!
I get anxious and "influenced" based on the content that I watch. One of the first things that I've done is to limit most of my viewing to people with my curl pattern/hair type. My hair is similar to Shelly's. I wore it in pulled back ponytails and buns twice in the last couple of weeks. I felt like my curls looked a little stretched, so when I saw Shelly say that her curls looked a little stretched, it made me understand why I felt that way. I wasn't too concerned about it, but I did learn something new about my hair, so the content was helpful. I just went down a rabbit hole and saw a new method. Instead of following it, I referred back to a regimen that I wrote down a couple of years ago when my hair was flourishing (but I had a blonde curly cut). I pulled that out and refined it a little bit, and I am going to be CONSISTENT with the product line that has helped me the most (Cecred) and OG stylers that work for me--As I Am and Aunt Jackie's. I also have my own oil blend. That's it. I saw my mom the other day, and she noticed the growth. That's what I want because I want options! I'm excited about doing my hair like I was way back in high school. I freed myself from curly salons and nail salons. I cut more than two inches off my hair, and I will do my own trims until I get the last bit of color off (I dyed it again ). Black women have enough to be bothered about. I'm celebrating my hair and doing what works most for me-wash n gos. I have ADHD, so it's hard for me to focus long enough for intricate styles. I thought I was going to do Marley twists, but I aborted mission twice because that hair is too heavy and course compared to my texture. Lessoned learned! I shared all of this as an example of the trial and error (without judgment) that I've gone through. Since C19, I've been "natural" with a texturizer, big chopped into a relaxed pixie, shaved down into a fade (hot flashes), and now my hair is curly and similar length to Shelly's. I am confident with all the styles, and they were best for me at the time. I hope each of us learns to simply enjoy our individual journeys and learn to use influence for education and inspiration, and not a prescription. Happy New Year!!!🎉
Love all the examples you shared and that last part is spot on‼️ Keep doing what you know works for you because no one knows your hair better than you. 💯💕
It’s so sad that we have even been made to feel anxious at all! However, I realize that at the end of the day we control any energy we give that type of thing because it all starts with us. I choose to no longer give any of my energy to it in 2025! 🙌🏽💕🥳
I have followed a lot of different influencers as they used different products. I do what's best for my hair and now I'm using oils and butters that work for me to keep my hair from being dry and brittle. A lot of the influencers were experimenting with products as well. Keep up good work because your experience will help someone as you have helped me and now I pay close attention to those who use oils and butters and do silk presses or heatless roller sets. Happy New Year stay encouraged and continue to be positive for your viewers 😊
I say do what makes you happy. I commend you guys on social media because I would have cut folks off long ago. I decided to cut my hair prior to all the scandal even though I didn’t suffer any damage from the NONB. Menopause has me uninterested in anything that takes too long or keeps me hot 😂. I have had my hair long, short, permed and natural and I don’t care who likes what so I completely get doing what makes you happy. Your journey from tape to drape is going to be amazing because you’re doing it your way so even if you have any hiccups it will be a learning experience. Enjoy it and embrace your hair the way you want.
Bravo, Shelly!!! Good for you! It’s your hair and YOU have to care for it. All that goes into that. I go back and forth with staying natural and going back to that hair crack (perm). The perm was soooo much easier. I miss that ease and the time that I now have to spend on my hair. I wish you well, my sister!!
Yes, and thank you Sis❣️ I’m excited to get back to not caring about every single little curl and if it’s still perfectly curled. I just want to enjoy my hair again whatever that looks like or means. As far as perms, I honestly haven’t had one in 30+ years. My vice was Keratin treatments and I loved them so much! 🫣😆 Also, I’ve heard the study on relaxers has some major flaws in it. That the ingredients in them doesn’t cause the C word. That’s more so in keratin treatments due to the formaldehyde in them. Of course who really knows but I say, we should all do what brings us joy and happiness with everything in life. 🙌🏽💕
I started following you because you're versatile. I love that you wear your hair both ways. Also, with the judgment, I think that comes with how long people have been wearing their hair curly for a long time. It's just like anything else when people find something new they're over the top. Like when someone finds religion, or starts eating healthy. I don't think it's a black thing, I think people are over the top when are learning. Your hair, your rules!!
Wow you just gave me a completely different perspective on how to think about everything. 🤔What an interesting take and I can totally see where you’re coming from. At the end of the day, I just have to stay true to myself and my family here on RUclips. Maybe others will be inspired to feel free from it all too. 🙏🏽♥️
Your hair is always beautiful to me. I'm excited to see your content no matter what it is. I think people should mind their own head of hair and do what works for them. 😊
Good for you, Shelley! Rules are made to be broken. I’ve been wearing silk presses most of 2024, and plan to do the same going forward. Cheers to you, girlfriend 🥂
@@Marcie_does_it Yes do what’s best for you and your hair! There are no rules and to me how you’re wearing your hair your is just fine! You want to know why? Because it’s your choice!!!! 🙌🏽♥️💯🥳
This is very relatable to me right now! Here’s to showing up how you want to in the world & removing the rules 🥳. Also, I’m dying to hear your thoughts on wash and go’s. I have some of my own after wearing them exclusively for 6+ years and recently switching over to heat styling
I’m curious to see if our thoughts are similar regarding wash and goes. I’d be willing to be that might be! Hopefully I’ll record and share it soon. 😬♥️
Hey Shelly I just love listening to you, you're so honest and have integrity. I have been thinking on the same line, so happy to hear someone else thinks this too. I must say you're curls look beautiful but I love when you wear your hair straight. Please by all means do you, because you need to be happy with you. You have definitely inspired me and I trust a few others as well. Bring give me your thoughts on wash n go's? I will always tune in to you as long as your available. Have a happy New Year sis. Love you.
First, thank you for trusting me. I know that trust isn’t built easily! 🙏🏽💕 In 2025 I’m going to be true to myself and what makes me happy. That might be curly, straight or slicked back etc. I just want all the anxiety gone that folks are gonna flip out if I silk press my hair and some of my curls get compromised. If I don’t care why does anyone else? Sis, I could go on and on 🤪 Anyway, I’ll definitely be sharing my thoughts and opinions on wash and goes. I might really get canceled when I share those thoughts. 👀🫣🤣
I watch your videos because I'm nosey😆. Seen your ups and downs with your hair and have seen you have grace with yourself thru it all. We all know the difference between apples and oranges . if I don't like certain videos , I just don't watch them. I mind my business! My business and my hair. Straight, curly, or twist is for me and I don't care what others think. See how I didn't include some things? Not my business. Doesn't mean I don't think they are beautiful, but if it ain't mine it ain't my business. Love your hair, love your personality. Did I say I'm nosey too?😂😆😉
Haha we really are bonded in our level of being NOSEY huh! 🤣🤣🤣 I wish everyone would take the same approach to their hair and that of others. Meaning if it’s on your head then it’s your business. If it’s not, then it ain’t your business! 👀🤣 2025 will be the year of change for me and I hope it holds true for all! 🙌🏽💕🥳

I started growing my hair in 2018. I am a male natural hair RUclipsr. I started growing my hair again 2021. The movement has become quite sickening, toxic, and rule-heavy. I was just talking to a friend today about the concerns I have with the Natural Hair Community (NHC). The exact words I used was divorcing myself from the movement and then I found this video. There are far too many people offering opinions that are not scientifically-based or scientifically supported. I’ve been using hair grease for years on my scalp and hair for years because it leads to length retention. Many people in the NHC are anti-grease, and it isn’t a mainstream. I prefer using all of the anti-products, such as hair grease, oil, mineral oil, and sulfates. Because I use hair grease, I prefer to use a sulfate shampoo to strip my hair. I keep my hair routine simple: I wash once a month, get a protective style that lasts for a month, blow dry once a month for protective style, and repeat. The movement is doing FAR TOO MUCH. Simplicity, authenticity, and consistency is key. Continue doing what works best for you because your journey is solely unique to you! God bless 🙂
Curly or Straight. A hairstyle is your choice. It is a hairstyle not a religious conviction. Wear your hair like you choose-which makes you happy and keeps you healthy. It’s your choice.
Hi Shelly ive been following your journey for a while and im glad you are at a point where you are happy with your hair. As for me i was natural since 2012 and grew my hair to mid back. Over the years i tried different cuts colors and tried relaxers again. I want to enjoy my hair and have fun. Im currently relaxed with a short pixie bob cut and im happy no stress. Plus i wish a mofo would say something to me about my hair chile they dont wana hear my mouth, so lets all be nice and respectful lolz 😂 ill watch your videos no matter the route you take 😊
Girl, as long as you don't run to the creamy crack, you are part of the natural hair community. Your personally is what keeps me viewing your channel. So, enjoy the re-grow journey. I'll be watching because I'm nosey and want to know all the things.😊
I appreciate your support and you know I'll be here talking about it all cuz we’s NOSEY and want to know and see all the things! lol 😂💕 I personally have zero desire to ever use a relaxer in my hair. Matter of fact, I can’t remember the last time I used one. I think it was 30+ years ago 🫣 I just want to have fun with my hair again without feeling anxious that if I compromise some of my curls that I’m going to get drug. It’s sad that it’s even a thing! 😅
I’m not sure when naturals became stuck to one style. I have been natural since 2002. I have always worn my hair is various styles, but limiting silk press to once or twice a year. Wash n’ go as the only style will not be good for the hair overtime. Stretching the hair out helps a lot with eliminating fairy knots.
@@ArethaRenee I agree with everything you said. However I might want to wear silk presses more than a couple of times per year. If I do, I’m not going to worry about what anyone feels or thinks about it. It’s time to drop all the rules and enjoy our hair on our terms! 💕🥳
Hi Shelly! Your wash and go looks good! I am kinda where you are with my hair too - I’ll do a wash and go here and there, but I am curious on your thoughts on them. Just want to see if we are on the same wavelength, cause I have some thoughts on it too after doing this for 3 years now. As black women, we’ve always been competitive and judgmental each another. Some of us….❤ I feel like we are judged some much. We don’t need that energy from each other. You have to do what you feel is best for you. Natural curly or straight is still natural. I prefer curly, however, I do wear it straight several times a year. We have versatile hair texture. Why should we look the same all the time. There are so many hairstyles out there. Try them all Sis, it’s your hair. Express yourself however you want. All the backlash is a new type of bullying. Nobody can choose how you wear your hair but you. Your hair is so beautiful how ever you choose to wear it! Let’s change the narrative…Period!❤ Happy New Year beautiful!

I respectfully would like to offer a bit of perspective. Black women are not the only group that is judgmental toward one another, we believe that is the case because we are most familiar with our community, but the judgement stems from being inundated in a Western culture that is not ours. We have unfortunately adopted many of those tendencies but I know we’ve all seen how judgmental and competitive the entire beauty industry is and that includes every ethnicity involved. I remember hearing people of Jewish heritage being ridiculed for wearing their hair curly. And some may think it’s a stretch but in my studies I’ve identified that the “aversion” to curly hair is rooted in anti-African ideology. And I believe Black women either consciously or subconsciously understand that, so we can have the tendency to become puristists in an effort to regain and value our own culture. I think if we understood the impact that an anti-African culture has on us we can handle these things in a more balanced way. But I understand that not all of us are willing to place the blame at the door of colonialism, but if you take time to study and reflect, you will find that is the root of any pathology that we mistakingly believe is organic. Just my two cents, thanks as usual for sharing your thoughts Ms. Shelly! 😊
You know I always love to hear different perspectives on all subjects. You seem to know more than I do on that part of the subject so I won’t dare disagree with you. However, I’d agree that even with those like myself who didn’t know what you just shared found themselves at one point being super judgmental for different reasons. It was based off what I believed to be true when it came to my natural hair and that of others. So my question is: Why can’t we chose to wear our hair outside of it being curly without it being a bigger thing than what it really is? Even if that means some curls get comprised. For me it doesn’t mean I don’t love my hair for what it is in its natural state. It just means I want to wearing it in more than one style or way without any judgement from our community. Somehow that seems to get lost in the sauce because of all the rules and I’ll say “perceived” judgement. At the end of the day I just want to have fun and enjoy my natural hair in all aspects of it. I’m excited to do just that and I really hope others embrace that level of freedom too. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It definitely adds to the conversation in a positive way. ♥️
@ I hear you, it’s really very innocuous, it has no bearing on your convictions and values. I just think it’s a growing process that some of us are intentional about where others will stay where they are intellectually. I say just keep growing and learning as a person which is apparent you value. There are way more things that are important than whether we wear our hair straight or curly for sure, getting to the root of that can help create that balance, but as I said, some people thrive on unnecessary criticism.
@@zarisundiata7744 I truly love hearing your perspective! I would honestly love to talk to you more in the background because I really want to hear more. 💕 I agree with you on so much of what you’ve stated. I just wish it wasn’t this complicated but I realize it’s way beyond hair! 😓
Okay you know we are NOSEY and want to hear and know all the things! 👀🤣 How was it? Did you like how it turned out? What made you want to straighten it? 💕
There is nothing new under the sun. There are no new secrets to black hair care that some stylist has figured out. You had very long hair before becoming natural...how did you do that? Trust your own judgment, you know what you are doing. I even take stylist advice with a grain of salt. There are type 4 naturals who only wear wng's and their hair is just fine. I have friends who are straight naturals and their hair is down their backs. The key to black hair care is simple - keep your hair moisturized and your ends trimmed.
Imma say this, and I hope I don't sound any type of way. But when you are in a community of mostly women you are gonna get comments and drama like this regardless. And this is why I stepped away and prefer to watch someone like Afrikan Hair God. He focuses on hair care, keeps it simple and has the work/proof to backup his words. Whenever anyone tries to be messy or complicated he addresses it. He been saying the same thing for years, and will apologize if he is wrong or needs to update his way of doing things. You don't really get that from a lot of these natural hair girlies. One month its Olapex, then it's rice water, aloe, coconut oil castor oil argon oil rosemary is liquid gold, scratch that we don't like oils and butters, now they using grease. Wash your hair, don't wash it for months, you NEED to detangle, nah - only use your fingers or all your hair will fall out. LORD HAVE MERCY. The comment sections are always filled with hate, drama, arguments about hair texture and misinformation. Why?? Homegirl was just showing us how she does her hair and you typed a paragraph projecting because you don't know how to do your own hair??? Oh my goodness. If I ever get on RUclips, I would be the type to have my comments turned off because I feel like no matter what, unhappy individuals who don't have confidence can be trolls. I don't want haters in the comments scaring or confusing people because this is supposed to be a fun girls thang, and people have made it SOOOO COMPLICATED and negative. If you have long healthy hair instead of "wow I'm happy for you, can you share what you do so I can learn" It's "you got the good genes, your hair is only long because of XYZ. What are you mixed with? My hair could never, you're not really natural if you use heat or all that product, you got money, your blessed. thats not really type 4 hair, and you're lucky because you have to soft silky kind" (as if you can tell all that by looking at an edited video with lighting and filters) And I'm just sitting here like. I straighten my hair sometimes because I need a break and I'd rather wear my hair, then buy a wig. Can I not straighten my hair now, do you pay my bills are you my Mom? I have long hair because I keep hair care simple and leave it alone. I eat a diet high in proteins and healthy fats = very nutrient dense = strong hair, healthy, skin and nails. You could literally get on google or Chat GTP and the AI will tell you what foods help with hair growth but instead you live off sugar, kale smoothies, diet coke and fake food. I am blessed but don't spend money excessively and I prioritize the things I want. Like yall be buying wigs, lashes, nails, clothes, makeup, shoes, bags, food, and alcohol buuuuuut you don't have money to get help with your natural hair???? You sit there ALL DAY at a braiding shop, while they pull out your edges but won't spend 2 hours at most to do your own hair???? I'm sorry but I'm not buying it. Congrats on your Divorce, I hope 2025 brings you peace love joy and hair freedom. If you care about health and you want length just be careful with heat and things like color. It's not impossible if you do it correctly.
I don’t usually watch your channel though I am aware of your BGC drama. I don’t have your hair type (4c hair) however I recently had to do a big chop too. I have followed those methods. I was even a model for one of the duo on BGC. Now what I will say is that I have been pregnant and had a baby so it’s a combo of post partum sheddding, stress, medication side effects and maybe the BGC way?!? Anyway, I realized I stopped enjoying my hair once I got deep into the natural hair community too. I’m tired. I don’t watch hair content as much anymore because it’s toxic and depressing. Thank you for this video. Maybe you should try to pivot your channel some from hair content??
Can you and Narada start the true/authentic natural movement? All love and support, no judgment and garbage. Also, a bit embarrassing, I sent you a proposal ring in the mail. Can you return that, please and thank you? Didn't realize you weren't looking for anything serious 😉🤣 Happy New Year!!
I think that the natural hair community has beautiful moments however sometimes we do it to ourselves and I include myself in this and I don't even make content. At the end of the day do you. For those that will stick around they will stick around for all the other haters they can kiss the blackist part.
I love my natural hair it’s soooo beautiful to me , I expressed wanting to straighten my hair for a change while at work O M G some of the ladies c a r r i e d ON ! 😂😅, I’m just going to say this Aquarius has been changing her hair in every which way she’s wanted to for many years and doing it before THE NATURAL HAIR COMMUNITY was even mentioned, so I shut that ISH down we are women looking for self satisfaction and Peace of mind and body and most importantly the soul , Fanatical behavior over how a Black woman chooses to wear her hair is just something I won’t participate in or allow in my space. It’s all just another way for us to attack each other let’s support and stand together no matter how we choose to wear our hair.
@@myramorgan2307 ALL OF THAT‼️💯 I wish we could ALL stand together and each enjoy our natural hair how we each individually want. It’s not as hard as we make it. 2025 will be different for me because I don’t care anymore. Folks can say whatever they want. It ain’t gonna change how I move forward and I see the same hold true for you too Sis‼️♥️🥳
You being nice love....say it plain straight bullies!! May the next year be your best year of freedom ❤. Looking forward to whatever you are discussing going forward!!
@@cassandrawilson8813 Such bullies at times! 💯It’s too much! I just wish we could all enjoy our hair on our own terms! ‼️😬 Happy New Year Luv! I wish you prosperity, peace, happiness and good health! 🥰
FYI: If you end up trying this wash and go combo, you may want to wait to add any oil or hair serum and use a lighter leave-in. If you don’t you may experience a bunch of frizzy, puffy and undefined roots like I did . 🫣😆
My hair wasn’t able to properly set due to using a too much of my thicker leave-in and my oil while my hair was still wet.
Yes, I’ll share my thoughts on wash and goes. I just think I’m going to have some very unpopular opinions! 👀🫣😬
Wow, look at your hair!!! Not only has it grown nicely, but look at the shine & dem curls!!! Amazing!
Love your videos!
Yes, it now looks thick, moisturized and so healthy! Thank you, hair goals!!!
Thank you so much!! 🥰 I’m excited how far my hair has come but I’m even more excited to break away from all the rules and judgement that still exist. 😝
I hope to maintain all my curls but if not, I realize that’s okay. It’s not the end of the world especially since I really don’t plan to wear wash and goes that often. 😅
Do you! I enjoy your content because of your honesty. I've done a long time ago with living by someone else's standards.
There's a space and medium for
everything 🤗
I've redefined what "natural" is for me.
Happy New Year 2025! 🎉
Thank you Sis! 💕 I’m glad you’re transitioning and know how you want to wear it. The sad part is some will try and judge you because you want to wear it straight which is so ridiculous!😝
Nothing like being FREE, having accurate knowledge, & applying it accordingly‼️
Thank you Shelly for your honesty & love for humans❤
Absolutely Sis! We just have to apply the knowledge for each of our own individual hairs needs.
Stay blessed and Happy New Year! 🎆 💕🥳
They definitely didn’t need to come out the gate with an attitude especially with the prices they charge. I’m on a path to healing myself and my hair. I’m working with a trichologist to get my hair back on track and I’m making great progress.
Right! Those prices were outrageous!!! 😝
I’m so glad you’re getting your hair back on track. I know it’s a hard thing to go through Sis. 💕
Your haircut is everything! I love that you’re embracing the freedom and blessing of having a versatile hair texture. Enjoy!
Thank you so much Luv! I appreciate your kind words, love and support 💕🥰😘
You go Sis! I feel you! It's a beautiful thing to be at peace with our choices! I love this for us!!!! 🙌🏽😍🥳
Happy New Year, everyone!!❤🎉❤🎉

Happy New Year! Thank you for sharing your experience. I miss the old “natural community” when we were all trying to figure out products and our hair.
Happy new year to you too beautiful! 💕🎆🥳
Yes, that’s what I miss too. I just don’t know when it became full of rules with all the judgment. 😝
@@shelly.v.247 Yes!! And I like channels that show what our hair can do. Your hair is not my hair, and you might suggest a product or hair care line. @@Crystal_curls85 Haha we haven’t officially gotten married yet! Haha I hope that’s never the case though 👀🫣🤣
Hey, Shelly! 🙋🏽♀️
I think I was a bit judgemental when I started out too, and the older I get and the more I learn about hair and grow as a person, the more I'm striving to live and let live.
Your hair looks great in this video btw! ❤❤❤❤
I absolutely love this comment! You're speaking my language and I'm so grateful you see where I'm coming from. 🥰
I just don’t understand most of it.
I’ll also try recorded my thoughts on wash and goes but it ain’t gonna be pretty!

Yeah, there are a few things about wash and goes that I suspect might not be the best for my hair.

Yeah I’m not going to indulge in any of the nonsense regarding how I choose to wear my own hair.
I saw the title and yelled out “From who Shelly???Stop playing, gurl you play too much” 🤣🤣🤣
I get anxious and "influenced" based on the content that I watch.
Happy New Year!!!🎉
Love all the examples you shared and that last part is spot on‼️
Keep doing what you know works for you because no one knows your hair better than you. 💯💕
The level of anxiety definitely resonates. Do what makes you happy!
It’s so sad that we have even been made to feel anxious at all! However, I realize that at the end of the day we control any energy we give that type of thing because it all starts with us. I choose to no longer give any of my energy to it in 2025! 🙌🏽💕🥳
Happy New Year Shelly! Enjoy your hair freedom. 🎉
Happy new year to you too Luv! Time to enjoy it all! 💕🥳
Thank you Sis, I’ll definitely continue to stay true to myself and my family here on RUclips❣️
Also, Happy New Year 💕🎆🥳
I say do what makes you happy.

Thank you so very much Sis! 💕Happy new year to you too! 🥰🎆🥳
Yeah share your thoughts on wash n go’s please
@@soapwitchcrafts Thank you Luv! 🥰I agree with you. Just mind your own hair and don’t worry about the other people’s hair! 😝
In 2025 I’m going to be true to myself and what makes me happy. That might be curly, straight or slicked back etc. I just want all the anxiety gone that folks are gonna flip out if I silk press my hair and some of my curls get compromised. If I don’t care why does anyone else? Sis, I could go on and on 🤪
Anyway, I’ll definitely be sharing my thoughts and opinions on wash and goes.
I wish everyone would take the same approach to their hair and that of others. Meaning if it’s on your head then it’s your business. If it’s not, then it ain’t your business! 👀🤣
2025 will be the year of change for me and I hope it holds true for all! 🙌🏽💕🥳

Aww thank you so very much Luv! I’m going to do just that! ♥️🥰🥳
God bless 🙂
LOL Shelly, you almost gave me a heart attack 😅😅😅😅
👀🫣🤣 I think I should have written “The Natural Hair Community” in bigger font! 🤣🤣🤣

I appreciate your support and you know I'll be here talking about it all cuz we’s NOSEY and want to know and see all the things! lol 😂💕
I personally have zero desire to ever use a relaxer in my hair. Matter of fact, I can’t remember the last time I used one. I think it was 30+ years ago 🫣
I just want to have fun with my hair again without feeling anxious that if I compromise some of my curls that I’m going to get drug. It’s sad that it’s even a thing! 😅
Your hair your choice and it's beautiful either way!❤
Aw thank you Luv! I appreciate your support! 🥰😘
We have the most versatile hair in gee world yet we stifle our creativity with all these rules.
Hi Shelly! Your wash and go looks good! I am kinda where you are with my hair too - I’ll do a wash and go here and there, but I am curious on your thoughts on them. Just want to see if we are on the same wavelength, cause I have some thoughts on it too after doing this for 3 years now. I’m going back to what I used to do too and I’m wearing stretched styles from here on out. Thanks for the content, I’m gonna be here with you, whatever you decide to post! Happy New Year!
@@teekie1099 Aww thank you Luv! 🥰 Yeah I have some strong opinions on wash and goes. My close friends advised me not to share them because they think it’ll go over like a turd in a punch bowl! 🤣. However, I have to stay true to myself and if enough people want to know then I’ll share them. 😅😬
Yaaaass! Drop those opinions on wash n gos….you know we nosey 💅💕🎀

I’m going to have to think long and hard how I want to share my thoughts because I think it might make a lot of folks upset. 👀🫣😆
Aww I absolutely love and agree with everything you’ve said! Our hair is so versatile and we should be able to do whatever we want with our natural hair without all the rules and judgement!
I’m excited to reclaim what that means for me and those following suite.
Happy New Year to you too and I’m super thankful for you being here Luv! ♥️
We respectfully decline your divorce offer. We will be open to separation with the expectations of reconciliation. 😂😂😂😂
Have fun and enjoy your natural hair journey. Natural hair is still natural whether it’s straight, curly, under wigs, or in braids.
🤣🤣🤣 Well as long as folks don’t start trying to come for me for my decisions on how I want to wear my natural hair then I’ll stay! Otherwise Imma need y’all to sign them papers boo! Lol 📝 👀🫣😆🤣

Im over natural hair and all of the products.. I've been straightening the past two months. My curls are looser from straightening, but now since I need to start working out, I guess I'll do a twistout with my homemade oil..Im over thinking about natural hair and using all these products as well. Thank you! 🙏🏽 💕

@ It’s okay, really.
what’s in your oil mixture?
