@@RiesenWuschel no maths girl? Not true. I'm one (MSc in applied mathematics, currently doing a PhD in mathematics education) and I know of more who watch this channel
I'm that way with climbing problems, unless i've tried something over and over and just can't get it, i don't like people giving me beta, i like to figure it out on my own, that's part of the fun for me.
Sometimes I wonder how much chalk he has wasted by chalking up extra heavy and then just clapping and brushing the excess off. It doesn’t seem like a lot, but I bet if you collected it all up over a few years it would be entire chalk bags full... More, even! I’d say he probably wastes about half of all the chalk he buys…
I think because Magnus is a bit less polished and more freestyle than most climbers of his caliber, he tends to vastly underestimate the level of technique involved. He knows his friends are strong physically, and he kind of assumes that should be enough. I guess once you do something until it’s easy for you, you start to forget how hard it was to get to that point. For Magnus it’s all just automatic muscle memory, common sense and unexplainable intuition that gets him through, and if he can’t verbalize what makes it hard, he assumes it must just be strength and grit… That’s just classic Magnus underestimating himself, and devaluing how absolutely beastly he actually is.
i would say when you are very good at something for a long time, there are certain aspects of the skill that you take as intuitive that others are not even close to considering on their own. thats why I think some of these guys smash the more physical bits, if they are strong and struggle on the technical stuff unless they are a gymnast or some other profession. Also when you are only doing hard routes, a lot of the routes will seem easy no matter how hard they are to the average person
Grip is simply something you don't get unless you train it specifically, no matter what kind of sport you do. This is the biggest overlook he has. When I saw the inclined blue 6 I thought ''there is no way they will do it''. On top of that, the MMA guy is way too heavy to perform well especially since a lot and I mean a lot of his weight is also on his legs which lead you to swing like a flag for most of the movements.
