The record company literally had them by the musical balls. DS had to come out with songs to fit the times and,style of music that was selling. So basically they had no real choice,contracts. but,this still is a freaking good song. specially for dancing. and,can't complain about the video cause,I get to see so much of Steve. I still believe he was one of the most beautiful looking,amazing talented men to come out of the music scene in the 80's. I always pause the video when he is pulling his hair looking up. They were not a great synth band from the mid 80s, they were an excellent post punk new wave Goth rock band from the early to mid 80s Leeds scene who did this song for the reason many of the commenters explain.
Arista records did this to them and,ended my favorite band.😞 but,in all honesty was not a bad song for the time and,got lots of air time in the states in the clubs too. This song is still very popular at 80's clubs and,Parties. It sucks at times TDS is remembered only by this song but,a true fan of the band knows What's up!😜
This song is neither 'great synth' nor 'post punk', it's bloody awful. Their first two albums were fantastic, especially Danse Move, Angel and Heaven Is Waiting (which ARE great synth), and Seduction which is great post punk (with lots of synthesisers too).

producers managed to turn a killing joke/theatre of hate kind of band into some human league/dead or alive. not sure what to think about it
I like it both, but the older stuff was more my cup of tea. I love synth pop though, so it's all good.
It’s a real shame, honestly. I know lots of people love this track but it’s a travesty to see them reduced to a boot sale version of Dead or Alive.
Naa this better, can’t compare to them..
