I saw them in NYC in 84/85, they were excellent live. They had a gig in Toronto a few weeks later which they had to cancel because they could not afford to get to Toronto to play at Larry's Hideaway. They never came back to North America as far as I know. Also on the bill in NYC were The Sisters of Mercy, The Chameleons and Billy Bragg , part of the New Music Seminar.

They were not a great synth band from the mid 80s, they were an excellent post punk new wave Goth rock band from the early to mid 80s Leeds scene who did this song for the reason many of the commenters explain.

This song is neither 'great synth' nor 'post punk', it's bloody awful. Their first two albums were fantastic, especially Danse Move, Angel and Heaven Is Waiting (which ARE great synth), and Seduction which is great post punk (with lots of synthesisers too).
The record company literally had them by the musical balls. DS had to come out with songs to fit the times and,style of music that was selling. So basically they had no real choice,contracts. but,this still is a freaking good song. specially for dancing. and,can't complain about the video cause,I get to see so much of Steve. I still believe he was one of the most beautiful looking,amazing talented men to come out of the music scene in the 80's. I always pause the video when he is pulling his hair looking up. That's just breathtakingly hot!!!

Great band - there are two versions of this band around today - THE SOCIETY who are superb and have the original drummer Paul Gilmartin at the helm and then there is DANSE SOCIETY who create bad feeling and bad vibes, they are fronted by a bitter woman who in my opinion is an awful singer.
