This version has the audio problems fixed. I recently posted a video called "Power of the Russian Oktavist" with low notes from Russian choral singers. I've here broadened the criteria to include classical singers in opera as well, and from a number of different countries, all singing from C2 all the way to C1 without amplification. On my next video I will feature oktavists from Romania and Great Britain, but I didn't have enough room on this video. Enjoy, and feel free to post any questions in the comments section! Unfortunately, for some of the more obscure material I only have audio and not video. - Развлечения
Kurt Moll; the ideal operatic basso profondo, he sounds almost like a nobleman with an exceptionally deep voice
And he looks hilarious while singing :D
And he's dead now. May you Rest in Peace, Kurt Moll.
@@hlukhi Да
Is expression after hitting the low C is so self-satisfactory as well. Watch a joy to watch.
I’ve been only so recently hit a G1, it is nothing of Glenn Miller’s G1. But I just see it as an achievement to hit such a powerful note! I give a round of applause to anyone who hits these notes or even works hard to get there.
3:50
-interviewer: so Mr Zlatopolsky, how low can you sing?
-Zlatopolsky: YES.
I had to make that one lol
Glenn Miller g1 gives me the good hebbees and makes me smile automatically
that C1 from Zlatopolsky is actually closer to a B0!
The G1 notes are mighty powerful
That final Zlatopolsky’s downward progression it’s simply inhuman (D1-C1-B0). How can a human produce a sound like that with that power? I’m really shocked!🤣 Thanks for the beautiful video!
I am a basso (technically an Oktavist), then there are people like Zlatopolsky! I can hit an A1 in a choir with ease and get comments about my insanely deep voice. How he hit a C1 acoustically is beyond my comprehension.
@@alexanderabdalla5517, I can easily do a C1 on mic. How Zlatopolsky did it unamplified is mind boggling, to say the least.
Damn, Zlatopolsky sounds like a demon!
asd848 Yeap, first time i heard him in the film, i was scared.
Of course he has a demon; there's no other way to explain it
Incredible sound
Yeah, and Chandrowsky even looks like one :)
@@tojge Chandrowsky looks more like Dracula. :D
Absolutely astonishing! As mentioned before, I have heard oktavists since childhood and tried in vain to imitate their resounding bass notes. Great compilation!
Great video! Zlatopolsky was extraordinary!
Where is Glenn Miller's G1 taken from? It's so incredibly resonant and powerful :O
It is from the Conspirare "The Sacred Spirit of Russia" disc under Craig Hella Johnson. It's a fantastic disc and I highly recommend it! Lot's of great oktavist work. The piece is of course Chesnokov's "Do Not Reject Me in Time of Old Age."
@@TheOktavismChannel Can you offer a full origin for each of these snippets? Asking for a friend ;)
@@thomasjackson7679 They should all be on my channel in full if you just search by name/title. Let me know if you can't find any specific ones.
holy crap glenn miller's G1 is spectacular and in tune!
I can hit an A1 in choir, training as a basso... then there are people like Glenn Miller! My speaking voice is actually considerably deeper than Glenn's, so how he hits those acoustic G1s is beyond my comprehension.
RIP Kurt Moll
i should note that i’m a soprano 1 and this video is everything i could ever want
Same
I've been fortunate enough to hear Conspirare twice and Chanticleer a number of times. Both Glen Miller and Eric Alatorre have such an amazing presence in those groups. I can hit some respectable low notes, but not that low, and certainly not with that kind of resonance, not enough to be heard past the lip of the stage. Pretty awesome to hear those voices live.
I don't even know how this is possible, considering on an organ, it takes a 16' or even 32' pipe! lol
The human trachea is not made out of metal, tho.
Circumference and length also is significant, but most of the pitch comes from when your vocal folds is clapping towards eachother - like your buttcheeks do when you fart... xD
The ticker the vocal folds, the more air you need for them to produce higher frequencies. They also behave much slower, which is why you'll have a lower voice with thicker vocal folds ;)
I've watched this video several times now, and it's amazing each time.
The guy at 0:16 looks a little pleased with himself. And I don't blame him. I would be, too.
That C2 was a bit throaty, but there are two other recordings of it with much more ease. He also has a great B1 from his recording of “Der Wanderer”. Kurt Moll really was one of the greats.
holy fuck I almost jumped out of my chair at zlatopolsky inconcievable
I feel pain in my throat by just listening to them
Amazing.... there are there humans who sing like this..... WOW! Thanks for sharing!
I recently found out that Evgeniy Badanin who is mentioned in this video is dead unfortunately. The guy who is shown in this video on 2:12 is not Badanin. His name is Bekseiit Ryspaev, he is the new oktavist of Doros ensemble. However it is Badanin's voice that is heard in that fragment of the video.
Thank you so much for this information! After I had done some further research, I realized that the picture was probably a new member and not Badanin, because the voices are too dissimilar, but I didn't really have the information to confirm this. Do you know anything further about Evgeny Badanin? Perhaps where we could hear more of him, or a photograph, etc.?
k barber There are 3 discs of Doros ensemble in iTunes music store itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewCollaboration?cc=us&ids=905445600-905445603-905445606
At least one of them - Любовь святая is recorded with Badanin
Also I have contacted Bekseiit Ryspaev in one of the Russian social networks and asked him several questions about the ensemble and Badanin. Hope to have some info
k barber Unfortunately recordings on those discs are of a very, very bad quality.
Thanks for the response!
What peice is this??
I love your videos. These men and theur voices are incredible...can you include great basses like jd sumner and ken turner in your next video? They are a perfect example of the use of octavists in southern gospel.
Man would i like to have a voice like that!!
What is the name of the song with Glenn Miller? I love Glenn's voice. So powerful.
jusefh the heartless "Do Not Reject Me in My Old Age" by Chesnokov. The full version is on my channel--check it out!
Kinda creepy hearing those low freqs and notes

The Oktavism Channel Hey! I want your opinion on this one.
I am 18 years old, singing since 2017 February ( under the hands of an excellent former opera singer). I am a Bass, thats a 100% but i am very young, my vocal tone is bright. I can sing a F2 fortissiomo and an E2 mezzoforte-forte( after i did the regular vocal warm up, and didnt sing for an hour before). I can „hit” a D2, but im not proud of it, its piano, altough right after i wake up i can sing it with mezzoforte volume. C2 is the same but its not that clear yet and volume is piano. I wont say i can sing lower becouse i dont think the notes are correctly produced, but they are there - hope you understand what i mean.
About my body: 190cm/6'3”, 70kg/180(?)lbs.
I know that basses are late bloomers, im very young and thin, but is there a chance that i will be a true basso profundo?(not octavist, becouse its deeper that Basso profundo in my opinion). My goal is to be able sing similiar to Kurt Moll, in the classical opera repertoire! I mean would i be able to sing a forte and clear C2 by learning and aging?
Im almost sure, but im just a little more than an opera fan and a begineer singer, altough my teacher said that i could have a really good careaer if i have the heart and determination.
Thanks in advance!
P.S: My exact vocal range is E2-D4 with acceptable quality, but might say C2-F4 with notes that i need to train to be louder or more beutiful!
Impressionante!
If I may ask: Might you direct me to a full video of Moll's performance in the beginning if one exists? I would very much like to know what the opera is, and whether there is indeed a full-length version of that particular performance of his.
Here you go! Der Rosenkavalier Act I (MET 1982) 5/9
what song sing Chandrowsky when goes down to G1?
what's the song called the Glib chandrowsky is in
Glenn Miller is terrific!!
What is the Michalyk/Chandrowsky clip from?
j
Dear Logan, I'm a bit late, but the clip can be found here: ruclips.net/video/CNFU5_ZdP6A/видео.html
What's the name of the song with Zlatopolsky's E1?
+Rurczak Kurczak "I Marvel at the Sky" and the soloists is actually Ivan Kozlovsky--you can hear Zlatopolsky during that brief interlude, and then in the background in the choir throughout.
the parts of Yuri Emashev and Evgeny Badanin sound very beautiful , what is the piece/ hymn ?
The first (Yuri Emashev) is "Do not reject me in my old age"/"Не отвержи мене во время старости", second is "Боже, храни родную Русь" by Doros ensemble.
What song was Correlated to evgeny badanin A1??
What the name of the piece of Kurt Moll there where he hits a C2?

+k barber the resonance that Kurt moll has on that note kills me, it's so open too. It's just... Astonishing.
Yes, it's really something--quite effortless. Kurt Moll was Vladimir Miller's voice teacher, by the way. Vladimir said that Moll could go down to F1 easily when singing scales, etc. I've heard reports of Moll octaving notes as low as A in live performance. C is the lowest I've ever heard recorded.
@@TheOktavismChannel I'm not surprised, a man who sings such a resonnant and powerful C can definitely go lower. Moll just used to sing opera repertoire where bass are used for their dark timbre rather than their low notes. I would be curious to know if any composer ever wrote lower notes...any idea?
What's the song with Schwinghammer? Also, where can I find more from that group he's singing with?
It is LaRue's Requiem, and you can view the entire video here: ruclips.net/video/r0XxREaz_JU/видео.html
You may also check out Vox's recording of some of LaRue from the album 'Extreme Singing'
I gotta ask. Do the Oktavists have some special technique to get that much power with the notes? Because I can "sing" down to around A2 (in the mornings especially) but I lose almost all my singing power around C2. And in full voice I can only go down to Eb2 consistently. (with out that morning boost i mean).
So, do the Russians have some secret they aren't sharing? :) Or are the just extremely powerful singers?
They are just extremely powerful singers, and they aren't just Russians, though 'oktavist' is a Russian choral term and 'basso profondo' more an Italian operatic term. Kurt Moll is from Germany, Schwinghammer is Bavarian, and Frederiksen, Ames, and Glenn Miller are American. They are rare wherever they come from: even in Russia there are only a handful. There are some techniques people use to reach unusually low notes, like Tuvan throat singing's 'kargyraa', but they don't give the sound you hear above. I recently heard Eric Alatorre live with Chanticleer--look up their performance of 'Canticum Calamitatis Maritimae' on my channel to hear him sustain an F#1 for about a full minute, live. I spoke to him afterwards and his speaking voice is so low that it seems to shake the floor, even though he speaks up higher in his range. Here's a link:
ruclips.net/video/1kzZK2af6fg/видео.html
Thanks for clarifying oktavist and basso profundo. For some reason I was under the impression that oktavists sing lower then profundos but I can see that isn't the case.
I checked out the video and it is really quite amazing. I had not heard that piece before and it has become one of my favorites. :D
Lord Queezle lowest written notes in choral repertoire are lower than lowest notes in opera, but there are different vocal requirements. Opera basses are singing over entire orchestra solo, whereas oktavists are generally just backing a choir. Much less volume required to be heard. Both impressive.
You still need the genetics for it.
My lowest "good" sounding note is a F2 which is deep enough for a high baritone, yet I couldn't even dream about hitting Moll's C2 in any way, shape or form.
Hanfgurkenhasser I'm one of the lucky-gened people, lol. All of this seems fun, and it definitely is when singing, but it can be annoying when you're just trying to talk to a stranger and they freak out at the voice...
What opera is the John Ames clip from, and are there any recordings of it?
It is from "Ayodhya" by Somtow. You can view the entire scene here: Ravan's Death Scene from "Ayodhya" by Somtow
And there are more clips from the opera on that channel.
Does anyone know what song is playing during Evgeny Badanin's A1 (starting @2:11)
It's "Боже, храни родную Русь"
How can you train to sing lower? I don't expect to get down to these notes but currently I can sing around a weak Eb2-D4 and I'd love to be able to sing a Db or a C.
Your range may increase as you get older, it certainly matures in richness in tone. May reach this stage at around age 50
ok thanks, so is it less of a training thing and more of an age thing?
Training still comes into it, work on your lower range and producing a solid warm sounding tone
1:33 song name??
2:25 - It`s not a Glib Shandrowskiy singing. It`s Iriinarch Zradgevskiy(Ириинарх Зражевский).
Yeah, you're right--I made this video before I was aware of Irinarch. I have since corrected the other videos on my channel, but since this is in a compilation, I can't really change it. I will update the description.
So whats the difference between this and singing in fry?
What song did badanin sing
Hey guys. From what piece is that Glenn Miller's G1? You said, it is from "Do not reject me in time of old Age" But it is not.
It is. Why do you think it isn't?
k barber Because i didn't find it in that song :((.
Jan Kožnar
Well, it's there. I just uploaded the entire song on my channel.
+Jan Kožnar Hardly anyone does the ending with the sustained low G. Nearly everyone else singing this takes an alternate ending that isn't as demanding.
I can reach A1, trying lower than that I just faint
2:24: I think I know that guy. He was that guy that kept flipping the light switch at the Krusty Krab right?
1:07 Niko Belic?
Aren’t Michalyk and Chandrowsky hitting an F1, F#1 or G1? I can’t tell
Can someone explain me the note system used in all of these videos? Like, is a C0 lower than E1 and so on..i know that sounds stupid as i could as well compare the two notes, but i'm not familiar woth this note system and would really appreciate is someona wrote down the notes reaching from highest to lowest or redirect me to a website where they are all explained (only in bass reguster of course :)
Thanks in advance!
And k barber, i love your videos...this seems like rare material...god i wish i had a vioce like that!!!
Yes, the low the number, the lower the note. C1 is the lowest C on the piano, C2 is low C for basses. C4 is middle C. This image sums it up nicely.
3.bp.blogspot.com/-x9alBWKzVxA/TyAcugGN51I/AAAAAAAAAQg/xp1_Omi3kEs/s1600/octave+identification.jpg
And yes, it is very rare material due to the rareness of the voice!
Yeah...C2 is already pretty dang low...i'm a bass and that is in good days my maximum i guess...
Damn would i want to have a voice like that...
What i hate at all these videos is that there are always 15year olds (sometimes evwn younger) that claim to have a vocal range of a basso profundo...
Ah yes, well that is 15 year olds for you. They are claiming ridiculous things in the comment section of many YT videos... but I have yet to see any of them produce some evidence of their range. Speaking of young basses, I'm not sure how old Martin Wahlgren is in this clip, but he's pretty young... and that is a beastly low C!
Cry in C
k barber Is this not a C2 of a C1?
I'm not sure what you're asking, but all the notations on the video are correct.

3:22 Is this like, the Russian version of the PS1 opening?
Is C1 or C# the lowest sound ever?
+SusanoRipper That would depend on what you mean by "sound"
k barber
Oh God, i habe totaly no idea, i just started to have an intrest in such low voices. I mean, is "C" the lowest possible sound able to play on guitar? Or is it E/A ?
Anna McCormack It's actually A0, according to the standard system Americans use, but there are other systems. Generally, the one I use on this channel is what you see most often.
Nice to see somebody still remembers Chandrowsky, though the recording technology of his day did not do him justice. Moll was a great singer, but does he belong here? That C2 was a trophy note for him. It would not have been such for most of these others.
Moll definitely belongs. Vladimir Miller was taught by Moll. Miller said that Moll would be an oktavist even by Russian standards--he heard him sing a strong contra F on multiple occasions. The volume requirements of opera are far more rigorous than that of the choral world. Singing a low C over a group of choral singers is one thing, but over an entire orchestra? That's on another level.
k barber I heard Moll sing an interpolated A1 in "Abduction from the Seraglio" at the Met and it was plenty audible - I was in the nose-bleed gallery and heard it clearly.
Awesome, thanks for the info. Do you recall in what aria he sung this? I'd love to see if I could dig up a recording of this.
It was near the end of Blonde's aria -- right at the top E. As she sustained the note, Moll made a snarling sound, sort of like a "ruhrrr" on a glissando from E2 down to the A1. Very clear and defined. He stole Blonde's big moment and the audience roared.
Haha, great! I'll see if I can find any recordings where he does the same.
как называется первая песня которую исполняет златопольский?

1 thing i find odd is how the others can sing loud and deep, zlatoplsky had density, i wouldnt call it rich, but it weighs on you.
Try Eric Hollaway.....
dogpreacher Hall try me ruclips.net/video/YjGeHowucjw/видео.html
So are these voices trained this way or just naturally this low?
It's usually with training you can get low like this, but some people just have a low voice and can use it,make the notes firmer and stuff.
It is something I was born with. I can't imagine how anyone could get this low with training alone.
Adam Costello It's a natural thing. You'll notice that most basses, baritones, and tenors, with training and practice, can reach about the same range of high notes as each other. This is never the case with low notes, because it's entirely up to your genetic makeup. The Voice doesn't finish developing until 40 to 50 years of age, though, so a lot more power and depth can simply occur with time.
Miller!
Glenn Miller is my favorite but they were all good!
Yes, I think Glenn is my favorite oktavist who is performing today. Buy the Conspirare disc--there is a lot of great bass and good singing in general.
Why are they listing A2s and Bflat 2s as 1s? There’s an octave lower on the keyboard. The Aflat and G1s actually are.
This American Scientific notation.
Because those notes are below C2, so they are in the 1st octave
As far as speaking voice, nobody bests Eric Hollaway (Bass best kept secret...4+ octave SINGABLE range.....

BassoProfundo20 you are a low bass, not a basso profundo. Basso profundos hit A1 and lower pretty consistently, with power.

If your voice is deep you can train it to go lower and have more power but if you want to have a range of two octaves and over the bottom range will be subject to change and how long does it take to get bored with listening to freaky low notes without musical variety , about the length of half this video
