As we get older but a little comfort means a lot, with me at 76 I am doing a lot with POTA. I small walk to a picnic table and I have some ham fun. I like your channel as it gives me Ideas in what I can do with portable Com's. Mike, VA3MD
Good for you, Julian! I'm on the lookout for a smallish camper myself. After spending our fair amount of time in the field there's nothing wrong with bringing a little comfort along! 😉
I showed my family this video and they immediately knew where this was going. Too funny...but seriously great opportunity and a fun journey in Emergency Radio Communications we have had over the years.
Very cool. I felt like a sell out of sorts when I got a trailer, as I was spending less time with a pack on my back and sleeping in a tent, but then I had the realization that it got the whole family out a lot more. That trailer is long gone but looking to get another one soon. Enjoy!
Very happy for you Julian. I hear you. Here I. The Canadian Rockies the weather can be brutal as well and having at least some sort of permanent shelter would be nice for portable ops. 73
Julian, Congratulations on getting the trailer. Hopefully, it will present a better climate for your excursions. When it was cold, snowing and/or sleeting on a few of your videos I felt cold, I don't know how you tolerated it! The best 73 to you and your family. Jim
Fantastic news Julian. I have an Eriba caravan, and just installed a 100W flexible panel and Victron solar system on it, with the possibility to add additional panels should I ever need to. I also fitted a motor mover system - something I can recommend if you want to make positioning the caravan an easy process! Best of luck with your new acquisition - I look forward to the new content!
Wwooo Hooo! That’s Awesome! I’ve known several people that have setup’s in travel trailers and motor homes with satellite tracking gear! Enjoy Brother!
Evolution is inevitable. Congratulations on embracing yet another advancement in your Ham Radio journey. Oh, and Thank You for being such an inspiration to the World Radio Community!
Excellent news! Nothing wrong with a little comfort. Pretty sure you’re signed off on being miserable outdoors, no recurrent training required. Enjoy the caravan!
As you age more, your body will appreciate the occasional rest. Just don't get to carried away the the resting part. Looks like a nice ham shack on wheels!
If and when the SHTF you will have PLENTY of time to be miserable and rough it. In contrast we have limited time to enjoy the best life has to offer, so WHY NOT enjoy it while we can! Beautiful trailer and it will be a lot of fun for you! All the best to you and your most excellent subscribers. RC
We are very excited about this as we love going in the outback gol prospecting and we also have a van that we want to set up HF radio in . Looking forward to see what you do . VK6BP and soon to Be VK6YL
What a great opportunity Julian. Speaking as one who went to more RV camping then tent camping 5 years ago, you are going to get allot more "comfortable" time to do what you want to do. Plus Snapper will stay warmer !
Congrats this is what I imagine my field ops to be specially in a remote area where I can scape the craziness and feel secured w all my radios, etc..I am also been keeping eye on this type of items....looking forward for new adventures and your videos
It is a "no brainer" decision Julian. You can always leave it behind when you want to revert to the "hard way". Your dog will thank you for it. I look forward to seeing you cook breakfast inside it whilst transmitting winlink on the IC-705 - on 10 watts of course!
Mr. Moving On Up, in the world! You are about to become a spoiled family with a soft bed, warm camper, hot shower, running water, and being high and dry in a down pouring rain! You might discover, it just isn't large enough, and trade it in for a bigger model. Plus you can always mount antennas & a bike rack on the rear bumper! Enjoy it, you guys deserve it!
Hey great news! If I can offer a small tip - make sure to have a tire shop look at the tires on the caravan. Often a weak link in older caravans that maybe have been sitting for long periods of time. New tires are inexpensive compared to a blowout many miles off-grid. Cheers on the new rig!
My trailer is set up for off grid camping and it is great to be able to get out out of the wind and to have warmth and light available during short winter days. My biggest power draw is the 12v@3.4A blower for my propane furnace. At 45 deg latitude solar panels mounted 25deg from horizontal and facing south are about optimal during the summer solstice, 65deg for the winter solstice. In my case 2x180w roof mounted rigid mono panels keep the batteries charged even in typical winter weather. It's not ideal but works for my lat. and long. and I don't need a generator except in the case of significant snow. I'm planning to add additional panels mounted vertically that can be adjusted 0-90deg and swept off in case of snow. Replacing incandescent bulbs with LEDs saved a surprising amount of energy. Know your loads and do the math but you can't have too much panel area. Cheers.
Nice unit man! One nice thing is that this could be your mobile base station and you could still deploy on your e-bike and use your existing setup for getting around in the bush. You don't have to decide on one or the other, the two work well together. Watch out for leaks though. Some units need to be patched up every couple of years.
That’s cool, I’ll be watching closely. I’m picking up a trailer (caravan for those in Europe) myself and am very interested how you’ll be setting up in regard to survival comm and remote communication.
Congratz!! I m sure that will give new opportunities and different comfort. I have been planning to buy a small van. Could build it for travelling and for radio. Solar panels etc… lets see one day what happens. Looking forward to see your ideas for that trailer! 😊
What a nice gift to your family, You will have to share your space now(bummer). But for me like the out doors but the potty issue. I like my own catbox. Hey its fun to have a nice solid wall in the wind than that trarp sound all night.
Congratulations, Julian! Very happy for you. Took a similar route here a couple of years ago - got a campervan so that we'd be more likely to go camping with the kids at borderline inconvenient opportunities. :)
I'm looking for similar, but a little larger, for emcom. Which of course will be used for POTA, Field day, etc. as well. I'm an old fart now, and roughing it is not always an option like it once was. Congratulations! Put time into planning on the layout if you're modifying anything.
Hi Julian, you must make outdoor live for fun, and gives you new things to make with solar😉 Have fun with the new challenge. Don't forget to share that😂
Julian -- Just saw your short video re your "new" caravan. I'm anxious to see how you are going to tow it with your bike 😂 I'm tweaking you only because I'm sitting in my travel trailer ('caravan') looking out at Bodega Bay on the Calif north coast. There is a lot to be said for pulling up the blanket in the morning whilst my spouse jumps out of bed to turn on the heater and start the coffee ...
There is absolutely nothing wrong with being comfortable while operating portable. Congratulations on your new wheels.
Julian. I am delighted for you. At times, especially when you are getting older, a bit more comfort does not hurt ! Trust me... I KNOW.
...congrats, Julian! ...what a blessing, both to you, and to us as you share your "new" content through this gift! 73!

Just so you know ... I like your content so much that I typically push the like button within your first 10 words. Go for it! 73!
When life sends you a gift. Embrace it unquestioning with both hands. The universe has your back!
Rock on, Julian…I’m sure you’ll trick it out, for all our major benefit. I’ll be watching, as always!

That would make one heck of a mobile ham shack!
Julle and Pentti roadtrip! ❤️🔥 Cant wait to see more!
Nice! A mobile off-grid station! Cannot wait to see what possibilities you come up with it!
Congrats! Looking forward to seeing you in the caravan.
Congratulations on your gift. Love all you have done for Amateur Radio.
CONGRATS and ENJOY!!! Semper Fi.
Good for you, Julian! I'm on the lookout for a smallish camper myself. After spending our fair amount of time in the field there's nothing wrong with bringing a little comfort along! 😉
Welcome to the RV Hams! Six years ago you recommend I dump the "shack field in the field" idea. Now you get to be in he club!
Great news, Julian! I can't wait to see what you do with it, cheers!
I showed my family this video and they immediately knew where this was going. Too funny...but seriously great opportunity and a fun journey in Emergency Radio Communications we have had over the years.

I just hooked up to my trailer a few hours ago leaving in the morning and I will be out in the wilderness for about six days. You will love it.

Fantastic! I'm a backpacker, but bought a trailer this past year.. absolutely love it for extended outtings.

Thanks for the awesome comment and kindness 🙏
Looking forward tosee more of this project!

Congratulations,, this will be a useful option for your operations
Very cool, looking forward to see how you customize it.
Well said, another option! Opens new possibilities! Enjoy!
Great idea. My dream is a pinzgaeur 4x4 with a cabin on the back and all the gear set up, maybe even a generator
I had a Pinz 6x6 and sold it years ago. It was low mileage. I kick myself every time I think about it. N6MJS

Awesome to hear, Julian. I think you've earned a few relatively easy deploys :)
Have fun with your new caravan 🎉
That is great news. I'm looking forward to seeing the interior and seeing how you rig it for EmCOmm.
Sorry we made you late for breakfast. Hi to Mrs Julian. Looking forward to seeing what you can do with it.
Congrats brother! Enjoy it!
Nice!!!!!! You can keep the gear dry and warm up a little easier now, congrats!!
Comfort is safety.
Enjoy.

🥳👍🏻
Congrats Julian!
Congrats man! That'll be a treat!
Congratulations on the caravan! It should make for some great content!

this is cool cant wait to see more of whats to come.
Awesome, it’s a blessing.
We build these for people everyday with any mods they need or want including solar or wind generators. Very practical shelter and comms.

Looking forward to a seies of renovation videos transforming the rig into a state of the art ham shack...good luck.
options are always needed. the right base for the right situation.

Great advice, thanks. It just had new tires fitted. Also recently passed inspection. Still, This is the kind of advice I need. 🙏
Glam Ham is also setting up an RV. Would love to see the mobile coms!

Comfy digs! Sleep well.

You deserve some comfort. I see no issue.
What are those glasses/goggles you’re wearing? Nice! Hopefully your caravan trailer works out for the best!! 👍🏽

Hopefully it doesn't leak, but what an opportunity for some excellent radio fun ahead !!
Awesome, Bro! A mobile ham shack.

looks pretty nice to me, just think of all the possibilities!
Fantastic!
If you have been watching some of the Dayton tours, there is plenty of potential for an emcom trailer build and survival house on wheels!
I'm looking for similar, but a little larger, for emcom. Which of course will be used for POTA, Field day, etc. as well. I'm an old fart now, and roughing it is not always an option like it once was. Congratulations! Put time into planning on the layout if you're modifying anything.
Dude...secure base camp, it's a new and expanded game. Nice!
Hi Julian, you must make outdoor live for fun, and gives you new things to make with solar😉 Have fun with the new challenge. Don't forget to share that😂
That's awesome!
Very cool. Especially if it means more content. 👍
I can't wait to see how you modify this 'new to you' opportunity. I am sure that you will do it justice.
Can't wait!
right on brother!
Fabulous- so many more options be comfortable while bringing whatever gear you would like to use or compare.

This is awesome! I'm more attracted to this form of camping than tents on the hard ground at my age.
Julian, Good luck with your new adventures with this caravan .
