  • Portable power station on a budget? Here is the Genasun GV-10 Merlin M100 Solar GoKit. This is a 100-watt solar briefcase, Genasun charge controller, and a Power Queen 100ah battery that can keep critical devices powered or charged off-grid, during a blackout.
The kit includes the solar briefcase, Genasun charge controller, and all required cables for interconnections between components and battery. I've included battery recommendations from Power Queen, and will release a separate video on that LiFePO4 battery.

I use my 12v batteries to augment my EcoFlow batteries via the 12v cigarette plug that way I can use my 12v batteries to charge in the sun, then can use those to top off the two EcoFlow units as needed. Not the most efficient setup but my only cost was the cigarette plug adapters since I already owned all the batteries.

Great job as always Julian! Simplicity is the greatest aspect of the Solar Panel to Genesun Charge Controller to Battery setup that you've employed for years. This simplicity is also what is allowing you to further adapt this setup to electrical needs beyond grid-down comms, or I should say in addition to grid down comms.
I don't think that an overly complex setup would be so easily adapted to other applications. If it isn't broke, don't fix it!
Looking forward to more videos in this series as you continue to expand upon the possibilities of grid-down portable and not so portable operations.

Hi Julian, I took your advice and went for a Genesun 10A Lithium charger and I concur that they are very RF quiet. Currently I'm using it with a 60W panel and an 18Ah battery for field use but I am looking for a higher capacity battery for my QTH and a larger 100W panel for the back of the car. The only source of confusion is that the 60W panel used the standard single pole solar connectors and this one uses a larger Powerpole connector so I'll need to make some kind of adaptor or maybe a "spider" to allow me to put the two panels in parallel into the charge controller. I'm looking at the Fogstardrift 105Ah battery which has the ability to look at battery state via Bluetooth and an app.
Thanks for all the time that you put into the channel, very much appreciated!

I have a battery that's Chins branded but probably came from the same factory as yours. I've had it for a few years now and primarily use it to power my travel trailer. A couple of years ago, I experienced a 3 day electrical outage. @jasonhowe1697 some people need a starting point. A simple system to run a radio, recharge headlamps, Nans CPAP, our radio equipment, or my air compressor. Nobody is talking about running an entire house in a grid down with this. Just some essentials.

@@OH8STN the question to ask yourself how much have you wasted on solar & battery solutions for your radio toys yet you hsvrn't considered a home/csravan/5th wheel solution where you might have upwards of 15KW power draw between 10-15 items within that abode and you think 1 1.5kw genset is a proper power solution when you have a min 1.5KW per device
yet you're to busy taking about man pack solution for the fucking radio not a proper power solution for the home or caravan/5th wheel you will live within

you need to stopn looking at yourself as a the back packing/hiking hippy and sit down and look what you will be need to live off of for the next 12-36 month's

when I talk about something it typically comes from personal experience of living in conditions that require mains power to live 24/7/365-366
I see a lot in the prep world waste money on 1-5KW based gensets only for them to die in the arse because they are trying power the whole home
your exhaust in the kitchen onsuite wash house toilet and 2nd shared bath those 7 fans will typically consume 7.5 KW of when all switched on
your fridge/freezer, washer and dryer will consume 8.5-9KW
I'm not sure how practical it is trying work out what dc power reserve you would of calculate consumption rate of between 18-25KW VAC,,
been a CPAP user since age of 18 now 46 there isn't much in tyhe dc>dc power options movie on from there once conver dc>ac>dc you might rnd up 15-25 min mark operation you get ups type power use in time use

This other SCC would be within 30 feet of my comms station ( that includes HF ).
I use a victron in a travel trailer I own and also in my truck, and have no RF noise from those, but Ive only checked with VHF / UHF, not HF.
I wonder if that 30 foot separation would help reduce noise.
