“We aren’t meant to expend energy continuously. Rather, we’re meant to be pulsing between spending and recovering energy.” I feel like society wants us to forget this

Three years ago, I developed Long Covid. I now have chronic fatigue and dysautonomia. The blessing in this is that I am learning slow living as a necessity. I do a little, rest a little, do a little, rest a little all day long. If I refuse to listen to my needs for rest and rejuvenation, I crash and can't do much of anything. I am amazed at how much I can do while taking this slow pace. I am still quite productive, just mindful and rested as well.

It’s a balance it seems. The machine will chew you up & spit you out if you let it. But the machine has its benefits as well. Move the levers that extract the benefits while trying not to get stuck grinding in its gears. It’s a delicate balance. No one has figured it all out but a small few have got close. You will turn a corner and something positive will happen, and know you deserve it. Stay on your path. Blessings

In the last couple of years I went into "quiet worker bee" mode. I'm self-employed, but I work with small creative companies on a daily basis. For me, this is the perfect balance. I no longer have to hustle for clients or work, but I retain all the benefits that being self-employed brings. I set my own hours, can take mindfulness breaks in the middle of the day, pretty much do my own thing... as long as I deliver what the teams I work with need. While I have plenty of creative input, I'm not the ones making all those decisions. I get to do work I love, I get paid enough to live quietly and comfortably (very minimally, especially by US standards), and I feel at peace. Thank you for being open and honest... it's nice to see someone on RUclips showing the reality.

Great video. I love your humility and that you're not pretending to have all the answers. I agree, life is a journey and we learn as we go along. And maybe we sometimes need the fast to see the slow. Loving the nature and the city shots!! Thank you 🙏

I'm a 72 year old widow and retired 13 years ago after working 2 jobs. Now I feel free and relaxed. I do what I want, when I want. I keep busy, or I stay home and do nothing! I love it. I'll be a first time Grandmother in October, so I guess I'll be a little busier!! But in a good way.
    I love your videos!

This kind of sums me up, and my attempts at slow living. Life is busy and has daily challenges, and you do have to fight to remember to fight for your pockets of peace and tranquility. Thanks Peter.

Great video, very relatable. I like to look at it in terms of the 80/20 rule and spend the majority of my time practicing slow living with a small amount of time working with more intensity, more like a sprinter with a long recovery rather than a marathon runner that rarely takes a break and hustles constantly, particularly common here in the USA and other similar cultures.

Yes, we are in this together. I think what ever we are searching for, its like a relationship or anything else, you cant just start it and think when its were you want it to bee its going to stay that way if you dont keep "building" it. And you said in some of your videos that some one that learning him selves is the best teacher, I think so too. Just keep it going we love it! And I think you just talking its also a good video. Take it easy and relax, tings have it ways to work out. Have a nice weekend and thanks again.

Slow living is not easy in the present consumerism world. You used to consumerism for the last 30 years and you can't stop that suddenly. You have to take 1 step at a time. I am practicing slow living for the last 4 years. In order to make it work you need to have the following,
    1. Financially stable. Must if you have kids
    2. You need to develop minimum 2 high paid skills. In case, financially things go wrong you can get back up with those skills. Always stay up to date with those skills.
    3. You need to have enough support in case you are no more.

I think this must be the best video of yours that I've watched. Thank you. I really appreciate your heartfelt honesty. It was also lovely to accompany you remotely on your walk, to see those lovely trees and hear the birdsong. I can relate to so much of what you say and I too am learning about myself and my slow living journey. Someone once chidded me that I don't have equal yin and yang in my day. For 6 months or so I tried hard to have a yin/yang day. But I just felt like I was trying to fit a square peg into a round hole as the saying goes, the result of which was that I was unproductive and stressed. I learned that I'm like one of those old fashioned lights witches: that when I'm 'on' I'm on, and when I'm 'off' I'm off. For me that could mean working intensly for 3 days on a project, at any time of day or night depending on my inspiration, but then spending an entire week afterwards on my hobby, or walking, or just sitting in coffee shops or reading. It feels supportive knowing I'm not alone in trying to find my way.

Thank you for the honesty. It is reality! I doubt there are many who deliberately attempt slow living or essentialism and nail it the first time. Yet, so many RUclips or Instagram accounts feed us a constant flow of minimalist perfectionism.
I am taking the concept of time buffering as a practical way to slow down. That extra 50% of planned time to complete tasks feels like a huge slowing of time, but alleviates so much stress. Not easy to always do, but feels more tangible.

Though I agree walking in nature is more relaxing than walking in the city, for me slow living is - at some point in a day, just do one job (it can be anything, reading, cooking, cleaning, finishing an email, puttering around..), with full attention, enjoy the outcome of it. When you make work and passion same, it’s easier. Great share with honesty!

Great honesty, and I loved how you presented it while journeying through the forest. (That casual SUBSCRIBE sign on the tree was golden!) The wonderful part is that, without slow, intentional living, you might not have been self-aware enough to pick up on the problem so quickly. We're all in the ups and downs together. Keep going, Peter!

Well, taking time "off" must be put in day to day basis. Let us say, there will be a time of the day that you will not allow yourself to be disturbed and just relax. We cannot do slow living if our environment is constant busy, we can only sched sneak time to relax. We can still be busy at the same time have tranquility in life. 😊

Getting stressed out by the attempt to live slowly .... In comparison to my life, yours is extremely fast-paced. I couldn't keep up with you in a million years. You even talk quite fast for a slow-living person. That being said: I somehow really like you and your videos. You are honest in sharing also the not so easy aspects of slow living and how it affects you. So, keep searching for what suits you best, and enjoy the process.

Gee, is it hypocritical of me to watch slow videos on 2X?
On many subjects, mostly narratives, I can listen much faster than the teacher can talk.

    • @EricaGamet
      @EricaGamet Год назад +1

I had the same thought! I listen to most videos on 1.75x (2x does something weird to the audio for me where I miss tiny words sometimes)... but I feel bad watching Peter's so fast... but it's usually on 1.5x.
