@@devonr7497I'm aware that on some cars, at least ones built in America, the stock seat belts need to be pulled out all the way and then fed back into the tensioner to hold the person in place. A misremembering of that fact could be how they fell out, or some freak accident involving a seat belt mechanism failure.
@@Tronic5435 Your saying that maybe the seatbelt didn't fully lock and keep him in place? But rather it just kept extending and didn't lock in which he could have flew out the window? I guess this is somewhat plausible, but i'm sure the seatbelts doesn't unravel much before it hits the end and locks up. So it would be really unlikely it unwound far enough that he would be able to get thrown out the window... Also the biggest thing to keep in mind now that I have more info is that they were indeed race car drivers driving a race car, so it definitely had harnesses, which is WAY stronger than just the oem seatbelts. Blown tyre can happen to anyone. That happening at Tiergarten where speeds are very high is especially scary. RIP to those poor men. Everyone else - be careful out there.
Misha said there was debris and that's the reason the tire blew. That's not entirely random, not something you don't have control over. But, of course, tires can also blow up on their own, without any external influence. That, apart from the fact they lose grip with time, is why you should switch them regularly and certainly not cheap out on them.
I'm a colleague of these guys from the Luxembourg site, didn't know them personally but when we heard the news, it left us all in a shock state. Thanks for the video Misha, stay safe all.
@dimsoneill We're a big company and I didn't have the opportunity to meet them as they were working on another building than mine. I'm working for a different branch so I literally never heard of them before, but still, they were colleagues and as Misha said they were working to make our passion safer.
So sad... as an ex firefighter I've seen more than my fair share of accidents. Regardless of blame/fault, it's still someone's son, daughter etc etc, it's ALWAYS sad when someone loses their life. 😢😢 R.I.P ❤
Yesterday was supposed to be my first time on the Ring. Or any racetrack for that matter. Unimaginable excitement for a person that's been a petrolhead his entire life and bought his dream car a few months back. We drove past tiergarten right as the helicopter was arriving to the scene. Harrowing scenes, I was deeply shocked. And then when we went to TF entrance 2 hours later, hearse had just been let through to the track. Chills going down my spine as I realized what's going on. When we heard TF was cancelled for the day, of course I was hugely dissappointed, but at the same time I fully understood the scale of what happened and had no right to call anyone out whatsoever. I decided to make the trip again today, some 450km one way since I am staying near Ulm (i'm Croatian, but came to visit my family here). It was so worth coming again. Such an amazing experience, met so many wonderful people, seen so many great builds. I don't regret a single cent spent on making it back here again. These are the type of things no money can buy. Being dissappointed is okay. Being mad because track was closed after someone lost their lives there is just heartless. My sincere condolences to the families of our fellow drivers.
Well spoken man , our passions all too often can put us in dangerous situations . Yet we continue to do this , and that’s what makes us human . Without passions we would be soulless and life meaningless. 🇬🇧😇
See the thing is is that the whole virtue of closing the track is just hollow. If people truly felt grief for tragedies like this, then permanently close the track to make certain it never happens again. Closing it for a day or two doesn't bring them back or make it any better for the families. All it is is a virtue signal.
@@sprolyborn2554 I completely disagree with your statement. Just like diving, skiing, or skating racing is a sport that bears its risks, sometimes even fatal ones. What happened is a tragedy and of course there should be precautions taken to prevent a similar crash in the future but closing it down would be a massive loss not only for the motorsports world but also for all of the region and the people living off and for the tourism and events the ring provides. Sure it’s one of the riskiest tracks but it’s a historical landmark that should be protected. After all you would not forbid people to do the above mentioned sports either, would you?
@@sprolyborn2554 it's a pretty dumb way to go about it. You're forgetting that these people didn't go out there to have some fun. They were working, testing something that might end up on your car one day. Your solution would be to just close all the tracks and never do any testing again then? Also the track wasn't just closed out of respect or courtesy. Police was investigating the scene long after the crash and intended touristenfahrten times (Misha said the car or what was left of it was still there close to 10pm) because it's mandatory to do it if there were fatal consequences. It's a dangerous job/hobby, we are all aware of it and they were as well. That's why we do our best to minimize the risks and dangers. This was just a terribly bad luck.
That's immediately what I thought, they were doing it most likely out of passion for cars (obviously for money too, as is life), for benefit of the general populus, for the car geeks. It's extremely sad to see and hear that such brave people go away. Especially because most often than not, they are anonymous for 99.9% of population, yet extremely influential for motoring as a whole.
I didnt hear this news until this morning and the moment I did panic sets in, I have numerous friends and colleagues that conduct these types of test and we all do it for our love of cars, RIP guys!

Thank you for taking your time to do such an important video, Misha! Safety on the track is a topic that still gets to less attention in my opinion. What i don't really understand is why it is not mandatory to equip the cars that are tested during industry sessions with at least some additional safety equipment. Bucket seats, 6-point-harnesses, helmets and HANS could in this case have very well made the difference between life and death. And it wouldn't effect the performance of the car in any way.
this is heartbreaking. I really want to show some sympathy to anyone involved, its always the worst case scenario whenever we actually lose someone we love, when doing something we love. be safe, be careful, and please be considerate when something like this happens and send your prayers to everyone involved please.
Well said Misha. My deepest condolences to the families of the 2 men who died. The crash was no one's "fault", it was an equipment failure. A blow out can happen to anyone, in any car at anytime. This has always stuck with me. When I was younger I was with my friend and his grandfather for the weekend. We ran into some traffic, the road was closed. The grandfather was so fkn mad about the traffic and the road being closed. I started agreeing with him to it sucked, and i was annoyed. The roads only close like this for fatal accidents, was still young didn't realize this at the time. I get woken up the next morning by my parents, they came to pick me up and bring me to the hospital. The fatal accident that day claimed my best friends life, and nearly took out his entire family. Sorry to hear this. Most people never realize just how much risk they are taking by driving a car. Was a auto mechanic for 12 years, every time I did a repair or service I always had the mind set of "a persons life is at stake if I don't do the repair or service correctly". I advise people to take a few seconds and glance around before you get in you vehicle, that low tire could put you in the hospital or worse the morgue.

How the hell did they get thrown out of the vehicle??? I can't see how this is possible with regular seatbelts let alone harnesses regardless of the impact ge forces. How would it possibly break the seat belt mechanism and let them fall out the windows?
Just asked ChatGPT to give me any examples in which a driver was ejected out of the car due to a harness failure.
This is the response: Complete harness failure resulting in driver ejection is a rare occurrence in motorsports due to stringent safety regulations and advancements in technology. As of my last update in September 2021, I'm not aware of specific incidents where a racing harness failure directly caused a driver to be ejected from the vehicle. Racing organizations prioritize driver safety and continually improve equipment to prevent such failures from happening...
And would eliminate your idea of the seatbelt's not locking :P
@@Tronic5435 Also I just realized the fact that it happened to BOTH of the people with separate seatbelt's/harnesses............ So this makes this REALLY hard to comprehend how BOTH could have failed.

You don’t have to push a car, your skills, or drive fast in general to be involved in a fatal accident
No matter how you look at it, the ring is a dangerous place for anyone who chooses to go on the track.
Of course more speed increases the risk exponentially but still, a puncture can lead to very severe consequences even at relatively low speed, and even if you know exactly what to do.
Sorry for the long comment, but I would rephrase it as “you always put yourself at risk when driving, especially when driving on a race track”.

@@timm.e.n. Not especially when driving on a race track. Actually if you are going to drive fast the track is the safest option. Its closed all go in same direction and no other cyclist and so on. Blown tyre can happen to anyone. That happening at Tiergarten where speeds are very high is especially scary. RIP to those poor men. Everyone else - be careful out there.
I've been in a car that blew a rear tire going 160kph. Not at the 'ring, but still. Seriously scary stuff
Toto Wolff almost died from the same thing. Good example of why if you’re doing regular laps, you should have a cage, especially in a older car.
@@danishghostrider the same shit happening with me and my friend volkswagen many years ago, blown up front right tyre on 90-100.... xd
Misha said there was debris and that's the reason the tire blew. That's not entirely random, not something you don't have control over. But, of course, tires can also blow up on their own, without any external influence. That, apart from the fact they lose grip with time, is why you should switch them regularly and certainly not cheap out on them.
More details have since emerged that it was two Goodyear employees - they were testing a new tyre :(

Having worked in automotive development the last 8yrs the words in this video really hit home.

Thanks for making the video Misha, I can only imagine how hard it must be during a circumstance like this. Unfortunately things aren't always sunshine and rainbows.
Race in Peace brothers. It's always the risk we take doing what we love. Sending positive vibes to the family, friends and all that were involved. 😞
Proud of you Misha that you are doing this. This will be hard and personal for you. Many thanks for sharing this. There is a lot of selfishness in the world unfortunately ... from people that show now respect and just thinking about their own situation ... that's so sad and it says everything about them too. My heart goes out to the families and friends of the drivers. Wishing them much strength and warmth. I wanted to go yesterday, but discovered some small issues with my car so I didn't went to the Nürburgring. This horrible accident is a lesson more to have your car in optimal condition. Many warm wishes to you and Melissa.
We felt the emotion in your speech which brought tears to my eyes,it's sad that people have so little humanity sometimes..my deepest condolences to you and their families
I hope everyone will be aware of this prevention at the end of the video, be safe and enjoy every moment 🙏
