    You should literally play, or just watch the full walkthrough of *Tales From The Borderlands* , it's basically like a TV Series, there is pretty much no gameplay there and you just control a movie there, and it's very great, it's literally something you can play because you're not even playing it when you playing it, you're just watching a movie, if that makes sense lmao. xD

      Seconding this. TFTB is easily something that you could watch to get a rough Borderlands feel. It's certainly better if you've played the games and understand the references and cameos, but it's still an amazing story even for people that have never played or even heard of Borderlands. Also I will warn you that there is alot of dynamic camera movement and angles at times, but its still amazing.

    To be honest, when it comes to trailers vs playing the game itself, there are stories in the game that you can only learn about by watching a lore video or just playing the game.
    For example, anyone that remembers the ending choice of the Fallout 3 DLC- The Pitt, will understand what i mean when i say i felt like a fresh turd for choosing to potentially save the future over helping the people of the present.
    The full story of Ulysess from Fallout: NV was one that would require you to have not only played all the Fallout: New Vegas DLC but also spend time exploring every new environment- and it was worth it.
    Reminiscing aside, i think you would prefer watching lore videos, since there is no learning curve to get in the way of hearing more of the story.

  • @Axetwin
    @Axetwin 2 года назад +5

    You can only learn so much about a game from only watching the trailer, yes. But you don't need to start playing them to understand the story, you can watch a Let's Play. Which is essentially watching someone else play it, typically in an informative way.
    The Meat Bicycle guy is Krieg The Psycho, and no that's not him doing finger guns under his chin. That's just a normal psycho.
    The set up for Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon's Keep is the Vault Hunters sitting down to play a game of Bunkers and Badasses (read: Dungeons and Dragons), and then it turns into an emotional gutpunch near the end.

    8:30 No, actually the guy on the title screen is just an unnamed enemy of the 'psycho' type. Most of the generic enemies in Borderlands are called 'psychos', because they're homicidally delusional (I think the lore explains that the evil corporations created some kind of pollution or weapon that turned a lot of people into psychos, but I can't remember). The 'meat bicycle guy' is called Krieg, and he's like an abnormal psycho that has managed to hold onto some of his empathy and morals (or really he just fell in love with the blue-haired vault-hunter Maya). But he's not on the cover, nor is he part of the original 8 Vaulthunters.

    To give a breakdown, the first was the opening sequence for Borderlands 1, with each subsequent game introducing the 4 playable characters/classes that players can run through the game as(do note that you cannot change once you’ve started a character, since that requires the creation of a the character to do so and starting the game again), with Borderlands 2 having the inclusion of 2 DLC characters/classes after release, in the form of Gaige, the Mechamancer, and Mr. Meat-Bicycle himself Kreig, the psycho, which explains why they weren’t in the trailer. The game’s follow a timeline, with each chapter, even the ones you once played, grow older with each game.
    The Tiny Tina’s fantasy trailer sets up the what is about to occur in the Dragon’s Keep DLC, which makes it Borderlands in a RPG world, with it eventually branching out into its own game as the upcoming Tiny Tina’s Wonderland.

    The borderlands series is the progenitor of the looter shooter genre of video game, a series of video games that follow a basic gameplay cycle of kill monsters, pick up the weapons and gear That the monsters drop and use it to kill more monsters, repeat. The original borderlands was the one of the 1st of its kind really, blending RPG elements with, for the time, excellent first person shooting gameplay. All packaged in a wholly unique cellshaded artstyle and universe that until recently, was primarily centred around a planet called Pandora that was entirely post apocalyptic riff on mad Max. The developers really hit their stride in their 2nd game borderlands 2 (the game that this video was made for) which expanded more on the lore of the the universe as well as giving one of the best villains in the entire history of video games known as handsome Jack. The series also began to start leaning into its more Absurd and Memey humor that lends itself to be a bit outdated from time to time but still gets a good laugh for those who were aware any of the now inside internet jokes. There's also a lot of toilet humor. This particular lean into the more comedic aspects and absurdness of the series is what it's mostly known for in the gaming community it was always able to ride the line of crude, edgy humour and good comedy until the recent installments really took a downturn with a change in their writing processes, unfortunately. Overall it's a series I dearly love and enjoy.

    I haven’t seen any of these videos except for the opening scene but I have played and loved these games for a long time.
    It’s a game I think is hard to get into and immediately enjoy just because of the way it’s played (especially the first game) and I believe the only reason I still play it today is just the nostalgia. Recently I’ve noticed a big lag in my patience with this game, it can be tough,boring,grindy,anger-inducing,etc. But against all of that it has one of the most expansive stories,characters,lore, and map I think I’ve ever seen in a game series I’ve played before. And? It’s got a sense of humor AS WELL as some actually seriously badass moments.

    I would hope that they would get Ryan Reynolds to play Handsome Jack in the movie, he's the only actor I trust to pull it off correctly. Jack is quite possibly the best villain I've ever encountered in a story. And villains are the most important aspect of story telling, in my opinion. A hero can make a story good, a villain can make a story great. No one watches The Dark Knight for Batman, we watch it for Heath Ledger as the greatest Joker that ever lived.

  • @servantofmelian9966
    @servantofmelian9966 2 года назад

    Hannah, you never ask but I am gonna answer;
    A Brief Explanation of Borderlands:
    Each game has the objective of discovering a "Vault", which is not necessarily a traditional bank vault sort of thing.
    In each game, you can choose one of four characters as your avatar, each with unique skills (although all avatars can use all weapons). The characters are different in each game (some appear as NPC's in other games). Some games offer (for a price) additional possible avatars (the Kreig you saw in the "Meat Bicycle Built for Two" video is one of these).
    You complete objectives to acquire experience points (required to level up), and to open up new areas. Within each area, you are free to explore pretty much as you please, but the ability to open up new areas is somewhat scripted; you can not do so until certain conditions have been met. In that sense, the games are linear.
    Most objectives are of the sort traditional in video games: There is no problem that can not be solved by going out and blowing someone to bloody bits (there are a few exceptions).
    Within each game, there is a "Big Boss" who is your main enemy and must eventually be defeated. Handsome Jack is the Big Boss of Borderlands 2 and, as has been mentioned, is one of the best villains ever.
    You have allies, some of them quite charming, all eccentric.
    Side notes:
    My personal favorite avatars (and why) in each game:
    1. Brick. There is something oddly satisfying about going berserk and smashing everything around you with your fists.
    2. Maya. She's pretty, and I think she is the most powerful avatar in all the games.
    2 1/2. (aka "The Pre-sequel"). Wilhelm. I really like his two pet robots.
    3. Still not sure, but leaning towards Zane.
    Speaking of avatars, did you know you are one? In B3, there is a Siren called Amara. She's hot, and she's buff. If you ever do decide to try playing a Borderlands game, playing B3 as Amara might be a good place to start.

    The guy at the end of the trailers is a Psycho, which is a common iconic enemy in the game.
    The meat bicycle guy you keep referring to is actually Krieg the Psycho, the second and final DLC character that came out after Borderlands 2 was released.
    In every game there is at least one Vault in the main story, and some story DLCs also have Vaults.
    So the Vault in Borderlands 1 and the Vault in Borderlands 2 are two different Vaults.

    Couple of things you might want to watch if you want more Borderlands stuff:
    ruclips.net/video/1iB8EaDeyuQ/видео.html A pretty short intro to Tiny Tina's add-on content game, it's sort of a sequel to the trailer you watched last.
    ruclips.net/video/kKVf5feSMEg/видео.html A pretty good action trailer for Borderlands 2 (bit loud and hectic though)
    ruclips.net/video/nv8D0jUJ1Gw/видео.html A similar deal for Borderlands 3
    As to whether or not you should game: pick a game that looks appealing to you. If it helps, don't think of it as learning a skill, you don't have to be good at it. Every game is different anyway, everyone who starts a game basically has to start at square one (you can just pick an easy difficulty setting if it's too hard, most modern games are pretty easy to get into). Games typically vary a lot in length and learning curve too. There are games you can finish in a couple of hours and that you can't lose. If you have more specific things you would like in your first game, we can give you some specific recommendations!

    I would love to see you react to Halo Legends: The Duel.
    Some animation studios made some short films for 343 industries. It's all lore accurate. Halo Legends: The Duel tells a story about how the aliens started their covenant. In this story the covenant (bad guys) are trying to recruit another species. These species are called Elites in the human language. The Elites are skilled fighters but aren't advanced in technology. So the leaders of the covenant tries to win them over with gift. The gift are technology advanced stuff, like guns, spaceship and vehicles. The leaders ask for return complete obedience. They want to become their gods. And the main character (an Elite chieftain) will try to stop them in the short movie. It's 20 minutes long.
    I hope you like it!

    There is a Borderlands film coming, different story apparently but probably still relevant.
    They opened a vault in the first game, the second game has a different one btw.
    Borderlands 3 has a few vaults in it.
    With regards to your lore through playing question;
    A lot of little moments in the game and cutscenes give a significant amount of character development and growth. Whilst you could get this from watching a 'let's play' or walkthrough on RUclips it adds to the experience if it is you driving the narrative by playing the game yourself.

    Tiny Tina's assult on dragon's keep is a dlc where you basically play borderlands but in a fantasy dnd setting, with Tina making up the world and enemies as you go. It's full of meta jokes (Wait, don't go there! I haven't made that area yet!) and references to nerd culture. Simultaneously however Tina (who is 11) is coming to terms with the death of a father figure and her dealing with the grief and processing it is reflected directly in the fantasy world you are playing in. It really is a work of art with the videogame as it's medium. It was so popular that they are actually making a standalone sequel using Boderlands 3 as a base. ^_^

    In the first one you do find "The Vault", and (spoiler alert)...
    ...it's just full of angry tentacles. The treasure is basically an eldtritch horror. (You do get a bunch of loot for your next playthrough when you kill it, so it's not a total bust.) In Borderlands 2, it's a new set of characters chasing the same legend, because nobody knows (or believes) that the vault doesn't exist.

    Here is the TL;DR of the Borderlands Lore (This includes all the Borderlands games)
    By the person who has an entire Christmas break to do nothing, Sir.Vapenation:
    Borderlands 1:
    The vault hunters are after a rumor of the vaults. In the end they find it, and discover their is another.
    Borderlands: The pre-sequel:
    The group of 4 (not the characters from Borderlands 1) enter a Hyperion ship that is attacked. They find "Handsome" Jack and basically help him take it back, and he then kills the boss to become the boss, and revealed as a bad guy, and obsessed wit the vaults. One of the main characters punches the Vault logo into Jacks face, scaring it, making him have to wear a mask to hide it.
    Borderlands 2:
    The vault hunters find out their is another vault, and link up with the Vault hunters from Borderlands 1, and are forced to fight Handsome Jack. In the end he is defeated alongside the Guardian (A ancient being defending the vaults)
    Tales from the borderlands: A "You choose your path" game where you play as 2 pairs of duo's, and discover a vault. Depending on the endings you done, you choose 4 characters to use a giant robot to kill the guardian
    Borderlands 2: Commander Lilith and the fight for sanctuary (A DLC to Borderlands 2 that happens after Tales from the borderlands): The vault hunters from Borderland 2 help the Crimson Lance (The team Lilith created) have to fight the Children of the vault to protect sanctuary. I think they fail, i never played it yet.
    Borderlands 3: The children of the vault is now a cult and is to big to ignore. The vault hunters team up with the remains of Crimson lance to defeat the brother and sister duo sirens that lead the cult, and win.
    And that is the summary of the game so far.
    Its all simplified and i had to *Massively* overlook many things but its the quick rundown.

    The issue with motion sickness in First Person Perspective often occurs because the motion is something your eyes and inner ear don't agree on.
    If you're controlling the movement yourself, it's not an issue for most people.
    Sometimes though, even experienced gamers get motion sick, especially if the field of view is low (narrow like you're looking at the world through a toilet roll), the framerate is low (the world seems like a slideshow to your brain), or the movement is erratic (such as with head bob while sprinting).
    But the worst offenders are often when a cutscene takes the camera controls away from you, and makes you look around in a way you normally wouldn't.

    alongside the intro for borderlands 2 I suggest looking at the character and boss intros if you can, as well as the trailers or cinematics for the DLCS. and as people said, find some way of experiencing Tales from The Borderlands, its great. Oh and of course the Pre Sequel and Borderlans 3 related stuffs, if you're willing to watch anything related to those of course.
    If you don't want to play videogames, you can always watch playthroughs on youtube :3c there are some that don't have people talking over them.
    also: HandsomeJack's face looks weird because that's actually a mask clipped onto his face.

    The DLC Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep was a representation of dealing with grief from Tiny Tina. She was very close to the character of Roland, (The funeral Brick was talking about) and Tina was using the game of "Bunkers and Badasses" as an escapist coping mechanism. She was in serious denial of Roland's death and actually has to confront it during the DLC.

    Tiny Tina has to be my favorite character in the entire Borderlands Franchise (even better than Handsome Jack in my book)...and that's mainly because 1) I always love me some crazy-ass happy-go-slappy characters and 2) the story that her character goes through both in backstory, Borderlands 2, and Tales of Dragon Keep is honestly some incredible storytelling (honestly sad that we don't get as much of her in Borderlands 3 as I'd like but I did appreciate everything we got).

    There's videos otut there with echo recordings from the Borderlands games that give some insight into the characters. I'd suggest General Knoxx, Tannis, Athena and Moxi from the original Boderlands, FR4G -TP, Athena and Timothy from the pre-sequel, Handsome Jack, Roland and Lilith from the second one, Sir Hammerlock, Rhyse and Moze from the third one. It's a tall order, but they will paint a picture of the story and how they all connect throught the series.

    If there were ever a game you could truly play as a non-gamer it would definitely be tales from the borderlands, it's like playing through a TV show or reading through an interactive book much like all telltale's games are. There are so many moments in games, that if you don't play them, you'll miss or at least not feel the gravity of when they happen. The interactions you've had, the stories (multiple in some cases) you'll miss, all coming together in some sort of beautiful cohesive mess that'll evoke true emotional response. Borderlands is one of these games and there are so many more. I think you should experience that. If not for your fans, then definitely for yourself.

  • @Snakedrone
    @Snakedrone 2 года назад

    You may have gotten to the max depth on some of the game series that you can by just watching trailers and such. The thing is, that for some of the longer living games, it's same as watching an hour or less of trailers for a 200 episode tv-series. Some games do have community made lore videos that take you further, but the good ones are far apart and hard to find. Also the thing is that you get way more invested to the story and characters when you are playing and interacting with the story and the characters, because that's what the medium was made for. There also are games that don't really require that much skill, like Tales From The Borderlands and other similar games from Telltale (and others) that are basically "choose your own adventure" style of gameplay.
    So, do you have to start playing games? No, but then you might need to moving to smaller and smaller games, as you run out of bigger titles.

    Games like this take a lot of hours to complete. But I suppose it would be no different from reading through a book.
    Watching trailers is like reading through a general synopsis of a book. Sure you get an idea of what the story is all about, but you lose all the magnificent details. And it's not just info from the main story, but there are smaller side stories you can encounter through side-quests... and they do an excellent job making this game-world come to life.
    But hey, if you're still not comfortable diving in, I totally understand. Like I said earlier, they are quite the time investment.

    (I personally really love watching Jacksepticeye, but he has a lot of commentary and jokes, + he uses a face cam, so he isn’t for everyone, although he always gets really into the story and characters of the games he plays, so it kinda feels like you’re watching it with a friend? If that makes sense? If you’re purely in it for the story aspect of it, I’d probably suggest watching some no commentary gameplay, but I don’t personally watch those channels so unfortunately I can’t really recommend any 😅 though I’m sure others will!)
