Then a line about "Cleanse the world with blood and grow lotus in it." 3rd song: cleansing your guilt and seeking a new life. Maybe it's about Wukong finally giving up the idea of saving the world kindly and gently, instead, choosing a path of blood.
“Cleanse the world with blood and grow lotuses in it…that’s your destiny” the english version is pretty vague while in the chinese version is more straightforward. “Dominate the world with might and spread Buddhism throughout the lands, that is what you are destined for…” but I like how the english version uses Lotuses as a metaphor for Buddhism.

After Sun Wukong beats the bosses, he can absorb their abilities or acquire their weapons as his. During fighting with other bosses, he can transform into the bosses he absorbed before and use their unique abilities.

I got you Afro with the lore. So basically from what developers have showed us so far this story takes place after the actual journey to the West. We also don’t play as Wu kong. We play as another human like monkey called the destined one. this is everything that is 100% confirmed or pretty much confirmed that I know at least. If someone knows more, please tell me more.
What I’m going to say here or just a bunch of theories, I’ve heard. 1. This game might be a different retailing of journey to the west maybe Wu Kong was actually bad and we’re trying to stop him 2. The destined one the playable character are either a clone of Wu kong gone rogue. Or maybe his shadow we don’t really know. 3. And finally, we’re trying to become our very own monkey king as the destined one this one in my opinion is the weakest but it is the most souls like.

For those who don't know, Wukong had ascended godhood at the end of his journey to the west. Not just a novel but he's legit, one of our god in Chinese. My grandma house had one small Wukong statue where we pray and burn incense every day.
But Journey to the West isn't even really mythological... it's a fantasy novel lol. The author certainly didn't think it was a true story. It's like praying to Daenerys Targaryen.

Wukong is based on a monkey god “齐天大圣” (in English it is Great Sage Equal to Heaven, which is also the title Wukong gets in the novel) that actually exists in Fujian province. There are shrines that existed 200 years before the novel was written, maybe more. They have a monkey god worshipping culture there.
Another point to add is that the first official trailer of game science from 2020 to all the trailers and release dates is August 20th, because this date is the birthday of Sun Wukong, also known as Qi Tians Dasheng in the folk temple. Every year at this time, some people who believe in him in Fujian Province, China, hold celebrations.

grew up on this as an american born chinese and here's a TLDR- his opps are monsters and gods. wukong pissed off the gods after achieving immortality and then they got up on him bout that. in journey to the west he started off with too much ego trying to claim his place in heaven and challenging all the heavenly deities until he went up against buddha and but then got a mountain thrown him for it where he was trapped for centuries before a monk named Tang Sanzang pulled up and freed him. Recruited him to be his personal body guard as they went on a journey to india from china (hence journey to the west). because wukong had that ego, tang made a deal w some angels and they threw a crown on him that crushes his head everytime he tries to be on some bs to keep him in check. lores crazy bruh.

As a Greek who loves all kind of mythologies (Journey to the west is one of my favourites) I can clearly tell that the game isn't about Journey to the West full story but about the first chapters/prequel of Sun Wukong. It will be about his birth in the magical stone atop the Mountain of Flowers and Fruit (Huaguo Shan), his discovery of Water Curtain Cave (Shuǐlián Dòng) behind a waterfall, which becomes the monkeys' safe haven and his kingdom, his Training Under Patriarch Subodhi, The 72 Transformations (72 Bian), his acquiring of Somersault Cloud (Jindou Yun) The technique that enables him to travel vast distances, his Rebellion Against Heaven by defeating the Dragon Kings, invading the Underworld in order to erase his and his monkey subjects' names from the Book of Life and Death, further securing their immortality, causing Havoc in Heaven by declaring himself as the "Great Sage Equal to Heaven" (Qitian Dasheng) and demanding recognition from the Jade Emperor and of course his final chapter, challenging Buddha himself, ending up losing and getting imprisoned for 500 years before he was freed and became Tang Sanzang's disciple, in order to go at their Journey to the West to retrieve the sacred Buddhist scriptures .... If you have watched all the trailers so far, you can clearly spot all these moments, establishing what the game's story and lore is about.... I'm not too well versed into wukong lore, however what I do know is that Sun Wukong's whole flow is that he seeks to be immortal and he is willing to go at extreme lengths to achieve this. iirc he: - erased his name from the Book of Mortals - consumed all the peaches of immortality - ate pills of longevity - and much more that I don't rmr. He can pull hair from his body and transform it into anything, including himself and his enemies (he has like 50k+ hair) I'm going to assume the game will revolve around this, but yet again I'm not too well versed in the lore so I could be very wrong.

I have beaten the game once with both endings, and when the screen credit started to roll, I felt a deep respect for the developer, a sense of accomplishment for buying it first day, and more importantly a sense of lost and loneliness where I don't want this to ever end. I had a blast during that 75 hours of game play, I felt like I was in some sort of adventure, every turns was unknown with awesome game play as a reward, I died 100 if not 200 times, beaten bosses with just a hair left and fist pumping in the air with excitement, I haven't had that kind of connections with a game in forever, I am 46, and this brought tears to my otherwise routine life. A month later, rewatching this trailer still bring goosebump and a sense of emotion that mixed both with tears and joy. If they could bless me with 2 DLC and let me keep my progress bring me straight to this world again, I would gladly dive in once more. Thank you,

Here is my take on the lore: In ancient China, Wukong was the king of monsters, or "Yaoguai". He started a rebellion against the Taoist gods of China, and was defeated by the Buddha. 500 years later, a Chinese Buddhist monk released Wukong from his prison. Wukong escorted the monk on his journey to the west, fighting monsters along the way, and eventually reached Buddha and became a god himself.
Interesting summary! Just so you know Guanyin released Wukong though, and I think Game Science already confirmed we don't play as Wukong but as instead the "Destined One". The game takes place after Journey To the West I believe and you can see the actual Wukong in one of the trailers because he has jingu bang with the characters carved on the staff, stopping the destined one (us) from killing the wolf boss.

Black Myth Wukong looks incredible across gameplay, graphics, visuals and even music. We'll have to see how it all plays out and I'm hoping it really delivers. This is one of the most polished trailers of a game, I have probably ever seen!

So basically from what developers have showed us so far this story takes place after the actual journey to the West. We also don’t play as Wu kong. We play as another human like monkey called the destined one. this is everything that is 100% confirmed or pretty much confirmed that I know at least. If someone knows more, please tell me more.
What I’m going to say here or just a bunch of theories, I’ve heard.
1. This game might be a different retailing of journey to the west maybe Wu Kong was actually bad and we’re trying to stop him
2. The destined one the playable character are either a clone of Wu kong gone rogue. Or maybe his shadow we don’t really know.
3. And finally, we’re trying to become our very own monkey king as the destined one this one in my opinion is the weakest but it is the most souls like.

For those who don't know, Wukong had ascended godhood at the end of his journey to the west. Not just a novel but he's legit, one of our god in Chinese. My grandma house had one small Wukong statue where we pray and burn incense every day.
But Journey to the West isn't even really mythological... it's a fantasy novel lol. The author certainly didn't think it was a true story. It's like praying to Daenerys Targaryen.

Wukong is based on a monkey god “齐天大圣” (in English it is Great Sage Equal to Heaven, which is also the title Wukong gets in the novel) that actually exists in Fujian province. There are shrines that existed 200 years before the novel was written, maybe more. They have a monkey god worshipping culture there.

grew up on this as an american born chinese and here's a TLDR- his opps are monsters and gods. wukong pissed off the gods after achieving immortality and then they got up on him bout that. in journey to the west he started off with too much ego trying to claim his place in heaven and challenging all the heavenly deities until he went up against buddha and but then got a mountain thrown him for it where he was trapped for centuries before a monk named Tang Sanzang pulled up and freed him. Recruited him to be his personal body guard as they went on a journey to india from china (hence journey to the west). because wukong had that ego, tang made a deal w some angels and they threw a crown on him that crushes his head everytime he tries to be on some bs to keep him in check. lores crazy bruh.

As a Greek who loves all kind of mythologies (Journey to the west is one of my favourites) I can clearly tell that the game isn't about Journey to the West full story but about the first chapters/prequel of Sun Wukong. It will be about his birth in the magical stone atop the Mountain of Flowers and Fruit (Huaguo Shan), his discovery of Water Curtain Cave (Shuǐlián Dòng) behind a waterfall, which becomes the monkeys' safe haven and his kingdom, his Training Under Patriarch Subodhi, The 72 Transformations (72 Bian), his acquiring of Somersault Cloud (Jindou Yun) The technique that enables him to travel vast distances, his Rebellion Against Heaven by defeating the Dragon Kings, invading the Underworld in order to erase his and his monkey subjects' names from the Book of Life and Death, further securing their immortality, causing Havoc in Heaven by declaring himself as the "Great Sage Equal to Heaven" (Qitian Dasheng) and demanding recognition from the Jade Emperor and of course his final chapter, challenging Buddha himself, ending up losing and getting imprisoned for 500 years before he was freed and became Tang Sanzang's disciple, in order to go at their Journey to the West to retrieve the sacred Buddhist scriptures ....
If you have watched all the trailers so far, you can clearly spot all these moments, establishing what the game's story and lore is about.... I am extremely hyped as Wukong's origin story is one of the most epic mind blowing stories in all fiction and its depiction in a game of that scale is gonna be jawdropping!!

@@TheHuggableEmpire sry can’t help u much, I read the Anthony Yu translation version years ago, but by no means the best as Yu is a scholar so there was much literature involved with his copy. You may need to google to see I’m sure there should be updated simplified versions around nowadays.
I'm not too well versed into wukong lore, however what I do know is that Sun Wukong's whole flow is that he seeks to be immortal and he is willing to go at extreme lengths to achieve this.
iirc he:
- erased his name from the Book of Mortals
- consumed all the peaches of immortality
- ate pills of longevity
- and much more that I don't rmr.
He can pull hair from his body and transform it into anything, including himself and his enemies (he has like 50k+ hair)
I'm going to assume the game will revolve around this, but yet again I'm not too well versed in the lore so I could be very wrong.

I have beaten the game once with both endings, and when the screen credit started to roll, I felt a deep respect for the developer, a sense of accomplishment for buying it first day, and more importantly a sense of lost and loneliness where I don't want this to ever end. I had a blast during that 75 hours of game play, I felt like I was in some sort of adventure, every turns was unknown with awesome game play as a reward, I died 100 if not 200 times, beaten bosses with just a hair left and fist pumping in the air with excitement, I haven't had that kind of connections with a game in forever, I am 46, and this brought tears to my otherwise routine life. A month later, rewatching this trailer still bring goosebump and a sense of emotion that mixed both with tears and joy. If they could bless me with 2 DLC and let me keep my progress bring me straight to this world again, I would gladly dive in once more.

Here is my take on the lore:
In ancient China, Wukong was the king of monsters, or "Yaoguai". He started a rebellion against the Taoist gods of China, and was defeated by the Buddha. 500 years later, a Chinese Buddhist monk released Wukong from his prison. Wukong escorted the monk on his journey to the west, fighting monsters along the way, and eventually reached Buddha and became a god himself.
it would be cool if this is the part after Journey to the West where we play as Wukong escorting the monk to complete his mission 🤔
Interesting summary! Just so you know Guanyin released Wukong though, and I think Game Science already confirmed we don't play as Wukong but as instead the "Destined One". The game takes place after Journey To the West I believe and you can see the actual Wukong in one of the trailers because he has jingu bang with the characters carved on the staff, stopping the destined one (us) from killing the wolf boss.

In the original novel , the Yellow Eyebrows Monster is too powerful to be captured, so with help of Maitreya Buddha, he was lured to a watermelon filed and WuKong transformed as a watermelon. Then after the Yellow Eyebrows Monster ate it gave him a stomachache, and was finally captured.
So it might be a similar sequel in the game to pay a tribute to the original novel.
