    Every time I watch your videos, I learn something new. Love the idea of putting ice in the hydration pack for a warm weather hike. I also love the concept of using a handkerchief to protect your neck from sun. Thanks for sharing your advice with all of us.

    Your tips are always welcome because as an experienced hiker you have a lot to offer. All this is still packed into the beautiful scenery of the Grand Canyon.

    I sure enjoy your video very much, especially the one you mentioned about filling ice in your 3L water bladder. That was excellent idea. I have never heard of anybody talked about it. You are brilliant. Thank you for sharing your own experience with us. Good job.

      LOL, you are too kind. I really enjoy the cold water, especially on a hot hike and I am suprised that more people do not use that strategy. I appreciate your comment.

    I have always been a weather watcher, especially because i don't like hiking on really windy days. I have started to only put what I need in my pack instead of everything 😅 You always give great informative information! 😊

      Sounds great, best of luck on your rim to rim. I believe the location of Bright Angel Lodge will give you great access to the trail, if you are taking Bright Angel, and eliminate any transportation issues on South Rim. Good luck!

    I love this. I need all the help I can get. I am constantly learning and really appreciate the information you’re sharing. Thank you! ❤
    I wear neck gaiters during the winter season but I will start wearing them year round. They really do help. The leg gaiters are a hit and miss. I still get sand and rocks in my shoes. Any advice for this?

    • @RationalTalk
      @RationalTalk  4 месяца назад +1

      Gee thanks for your kind comment.
      I find that non-WP or GTX shoes admit a certain amount of fine dust and tiny rocks. That could be the situation in your case. I always wear a GTX shoe at Grand Canyon because of the water crossings I usually encounter.
      Sometimes the shoe gaiters gap at the top, which might let in rocks as well. I always try to cuff my sock over the top of the gaiter, which limits this problem.
      Also, on some shoes, even with the gaiter, rocks get in the tongue area, then as you put them on or take them off, the rocks fall in the shoe. Stretching the gaiter to the end of the laces can reduce but not eliminate this issue. Also, sometimes existing rocks migrate from below the insole into the upper shoe.
      Those are just a few random thoughts, let me know if you find a solution to this issue and thanks for your comment.

      I will definitely try the sock trick. I forgot my gaiters once but I had two neck gaiters and safety pins. I folder both gaiters and pinned them onto the bottom of my joggers. Surprisingly, they worked out great but they looked ridiculous. Since then, I’ve tried out a few different styles and will look into the shoes you mentioned. Thanks again!

    • @RationalTalk
      @RationalTalk  4 месяца назад +1

      @@immnotaboutthatlife2086 I hope it works out. The first gaiters I saw were bandanas across the top of the shoes, I guess that is the budget way to do it, although the pre-made ones are much easier. I appreciate your comment.

      I actually say that to myself every time I hit the trail. Unless it is dangerously cold, I try to under-dress, and I am happy about that later in the day.
      I started the dual headlamps for better depth perception, particuarly in the early dawn times, when I had a hard time seeing the trail, and it has worked out really well for me. I do at least an hour of hiking in the dark and I am suprised that fewer than 1 in 100 of the hikers use the strategy.
      Thanks so much for your comment and for watching!
