The reason I bought a QNAP NAS is because they made a 4x M.2 NASbook which is slim and looks nice under my TV. Since I've bought my NASbook, QNAP has made a second generation and a 2.5in version. Recently QNAP introduced their line of wifi routers; one router has a 2-bay NAS and has mesh options, the other is a wifi 6 SD-WAN powerhouse. QNAP is doing a good job keeping me hooked to their environments. A major con for QNAP is the huge learning for QNAP OS; trying to get HomeBridge and NordVPN to work took days. Their app store is great.
This video is a hit piece. Qnap has far easier at home expansion options than Synology, among other incorrect info being spread. This video is either extremely unresearched or just plain lying.
Agree. He did mention he's a synology user though. While he fairly pointed out some Qnap weaknesses, he failed to do likewise with synology. For instance synology hardware specs lag behind Qnap's in similar price points. Also synology tends to push proprietary gear...like overpriced rebranded Toshiba hard drives. I've owned both and agree synology has better software and is more intuitive...but Qnap offers better hardware for the money.
I do most of my work by ssh’ing onto my QNAP TS-473A, and entering commands to do things. Setting up containers, etc. I use it for many things, including training my AI models…I installed a very powerful gpu, in its own enclosure with its own power supply, and connected via a riser. Qnap is more versatile, and the linux base is not as trimmed down as synology, imho. Qnap is a clear winner for many reasons, including expansion and future proofing.
I think for the guys with no experience the Synology is good, but this guy lacks in a powerful nas for 4k or nas, it plays 1080p and some 4ks, I used to have the 1520+, 1621xs+ and none are good for HDQ, I returned the last one for that reason, now I have the Qnap Tvs-h674-i5-32g, it is a monster for multimedia, for that after 3 Synology nas I got disappointed with the last nas from synology without embedded graphics.. Too bad.... now I am a Qnap guy!
What the hack synology win when it comes to expandability :D are you serious- did you check how many extensions can be connected to e.g. RS1221+ vs TS-864EU? Be honest
QNAP has been the clear choice for the last few years. I myself now use the ZFS NAS TVS-h1288X together with the RTX 3060 Ti (so I also use the NAS as a powerful 💪 gaming PC). In addition to that I have a 10G router QHora-301W and a QSW 10G switch. In a word, luxury. But even cheaper solutions are more interesting compared to the competition. For example, the cheapest 2-bay NAS TS-233 offers an interesting CPU with 2GB RAM for basic home use. For more demanding users, the 4-bay TS-464-4G is very interesting.
>QNAP has been the clear choice for the last few years. Mind explaining why? Synology is 100% way more mainstream and popular (which matters because of its app store.. a lot of community ports for 3rd party apps as the video describes) so that choice is only "clear" to yourself right now.
@@ShaferHart Why? Already in my previous text it is quite obvious "why" 🙂 And it's not just me, but a lot of customers have also see it clearly over the last decade that QNAP is simply a level above in comprehensive HW (not only in the NAS role, but also in the switches and routers) and SW (QNAP had and has a much broader application offering than Synology for a long time). Synology always takes years to at least partially introduce something that is globaly used (e.g. NVMe, 2.5GbE, etc.) and waiting years for them to introduce something doesn't make sense. In addition, NAS devices have largely lost their purpose in the last few years in terms of using increasingly popular streaming services and also the cloud. Therefore, it is more advantageous to focus on QNAP NAS in this respect, because NAS does not only bring backup and storage service to the home, but it brings other possibilities of using NAS, e.g. as a multimedia center (thanks to HDMI) or also mainly as an additional computer, which is simply not possible with Synology.

Yes but qnap is much better for technical people as thetr us much more customizability

Thanks for that!
Lack of NVME volume support is has a big disadvantage of Synology compare to QNAP or Truenas.
Excellent video!! Thank you!
So which was the winner ?

@@antik06 you are contradicting yourself . Maybe I just don’t understand your response.

How much they pay for you? 😂😂😂 Synology
I doubt this channel use or own a NAS storage before.
thanks :-)
Qnap also has 2.5gb lan
Subscribed, the first video that explained nAS well. Good production all around. Thank you!
