I bought a glock 22 in .40S&W about 3 years ago. Why not? The secondary market was flooded with them as all the police departments switched back to 9mm. .40S&W is a fine caliber.

I have bought 2 s&w 40 in the last year. Some of us newer tool owners started late. I have lots of catching up to do. Will hit my 2 year anniversary in November.
I purchased a 40S&W, back when the last 9mm ammo shortage hit.......... I don't want a 9mm and I have plenty of loaded ammo for my 40 and I bet a get another deal soon...........................
I wish South Carolina had the prices that cheap. The stores around here are anywhere from $2-$10 dollars more per box for that exact ammo you showed on the shelves.
Look into Expansion Munnitions. They're an independent ammo supplier that states 1. They won't sell off their company to corporate conglomerates like Vista and 2. They also said they're supplying civilians, not military or police. I haven't seen them in stores yet but I did talk to the marketing director who confirmed this.
Picked up two Smith and Wesson 40s recently at really good prices. Glad to see the ammo is available. Everybody else fleeing the round has made it a bargain now.
Walmart has been getting in boatloads of 22LR Federal and little over $22 a box with tax and they have a limit of 2 so I've been going in there and buying two boxes about every other day to keep stocking up on it at that price. And that's cheap for 325 rounds per box.
I've been restocking 22lr ammo myself after consuming around 10,000 rounds of it the last two years due to the scamdemic shortages and price increases. Got my reloading jam going strong on centerfire pistol and rifle early in 2020 because I've seen this movie before in 2015-16, 2011-12, 2007-08, 2000-05, 1994-96, 1990-91, 1985-86.....
If you think about it and do the math some of the gun shops will sell them 50-round boxes Norma or some other brand names for $10 and if you bought six boxes that is 300 rounds and would cost you over $60 with tax. So if you can find them cheap stack'em deep. As long as Walmart keeps getting them I'm going to keep buying two boxes every time I go in there.
I can't believe the Winchester white box 55gr 223 Remington - I remember buying a bunch boxes on sale at Academy for $4.50 a box (normally is was $4.99). I still have probably 40 boxes of it in ammo cans with $4.50 sale price tags. Worse, seems like yesterday, but I think that was almost 20 years ago. Man, I'm old.
Really varies by region, as I found yesterday. In my area, things are still pretty sparse. Only a very few calibers can now be routinely found. But took a drive about an hour to the south to help a friend in need: visited a couple shops there afterwards, and it was like going in a time machine back to 2018. They had most everything and varieties of many. Saw no 410, though, and no primers.
Enjoyed this news. Good to see an improvement. . Entertaining to see the shade 40 s&w gets. What a difference a year or two makes in what's "cool" or not.
Just FYI, I own a Sig 226 in 40 S&W and shoot about 1k rounds per year with it. I had zero problem finding self defense ammo at the height of the shortage.
Of course! That caliber never lived up to the hype and they quit making guns and ammo in that caliber. Get what you can of it while you can. In 5 years it will be as scarce as it is plentiful now.
.40 S&W is still a good seller in most stores in the greater Northern Illinois area. Not everyone has jumped on the 9mm bandwagon. Even .357 SIG is still selling in my particular LGS. Some local PDs have doubled down and purchased new .40 S&W chambered handguns. One particular agency just purchased new Glock 22s & 23s. .40 S&W isn’t going away anytime soon.
Glad the ammo is starting to come back but the prices are still too high. .22, .38/.357, 9mm are still about twice what they were. .223/556 and 7.62 are cheaper than pistol ammo.
Shortage of factory ammo and reloading supplies it seems to be going the wrong way still here in Canada. For some reason there is tons of 9mm Luger on the shelves.
I bought a 40s&w for just this reason. It's a solid hitter and I walked into local shop during pandemic and their was 10x the amount of 40 on shelves. So I bought what was more available. I have never walked in and not found at least 1 box of it. Some guys wait in line for 9mm and I just bypass it, buy it and walk out. Bandwagon isn't for me.
Glad to see 40, can't figure what people have against it, I've enjoyed firing both of mine for years, I suppose the generation behind me spent more time gaming, leaving them limp wrist

In central Nebraska it looks like Cabela’s and Sportsman’s Warehouse are pretty well stocked now, but prices are still high. I haven’t seen those $17.99 specials on wolf or tula 9 mm around here yet.
But what about powder and primers? My LGS (box store) has hundreds of 20-ga, and ZERO 12-ga trap loads. And no components to reload. Yes, there is enough 40S&W and 10mm to sink a container ship, but ZERO components to reload.
A dollar a round for something that is supposed to be 7 dollars for 25 rounds. Of course, no one will do anything about this criminal price gouging, will they? Pfft.
Prices will never get back to where they were due to inflation. I would expect prices to be 10-15% above pre-covid. I am just glad that the shelve are starting to have stock at any price. I am still waiting for primers in my area (NJ) and I have not seen any on the shelves.
Last year they were saying that .40S&W production was going to stop. But I've seen a number of new guns come out in .40, from 2011's and Tanfoglio off the top of my head.
Local gun shop had 410 rounds behind the counter not up front with the 12 and 20 gauge. 60 cent for 556/223 weather single 20 round box or 150 round bulk box.
I bought a 40 s&w pistol in 2021 just to diversify from 9mm. Brass cased ammo for it has been the same price online as steel 9mm. It's become my choice to plink with as I know I can replace the ammo I use semi economically.
Lol in my area my only ammo on the shelf at a similar size and type of store was expensive match grade .22 LR, some Aguila 9mm ball, some Wolf 6.5 Grendel, and some spam cans of some manner of 7.62x51 ball.
Today at Walmart I purchased 2 bulk boxes of Federal .22lr for just under 7 cents/ round, down from a bit over 8 cents/round purchased 2 weeks ago. An encouraging trend!
You sure there are any shooters down there? Our Fleet Farm stores on the north side of the cities aren't near as well stocked and have much more limited variety. And if something new comes in that hasn't been seen very much, it disappears quick.
Wolf .223 was far cheaper than .50 cents a round before this hit (.25 cents a round)… The contracts won’t be renewed for Russian ammo and those contracts are roughly 2 years…
40 S&W is a fine caliber. My favorite is the 155 and 165gr gr, but I won't cull the 180 either. I've much more comfidence in 40 or +P 45. Notice in the last 2-3 years how many police shootings there are that require many more bullet impacts on a suspect to effect a stop than previous. Still kind of expensive but it was all there. First time I've seen a selection and all the shelves full in more than a year. .308 FMJ NATO for $17 for 20. .22LR for $3-4/ for 50 : -/
Ammo is pricey, real pricey. Sigs .277 is $4.00 a round. Yea I’ll practice with that. Not!!! All these new rounds out this year will be doomed. I tried a new round years back. It sits in my closet collecting dust. I haven’t seen it in years now. I have 40 rounds left one box with two bullet weights. OK one shot before the hunt. If it’s off, next rifle. You really want to buy a new caliber rifle in these times? Not me.
Was at a major sporting goods store yesterday here on the left coast. Lots of 9mm and 223 / 556 & 7.62 x 51. NOT cheap at all. 22lr was $9.99 a box of 50. Saw several cases of 556 Fed xm193 $897.00 No primers or powder available. and haven't seen 243,30-30, 30-06 etc. in over a yr.
Accounting practices (GAAP) typically use FIFO inventory valuation system which rewards vendors when prices are rising and penalizes when prices fall...hence, all stores/distributors etc are more keen to raise prices and drag feet the other way. So "profits" are not cash flow, but rather the value of the business month over month....inventory valuation is part of the equation.
but if people stop paying the high prices and hold off, eventually the supply is going to overwhelm demand and I would imagine they would have no choice but to drop prices back down. I'm sure they would do it slowly to see just how little they have to drop it before people start buying again but here I still think its on us consumers to hold off and wait.
@@larryarcher8533 Totally agree...though reality is people are individuals and won't act in a coordinated manner. Eventually, in it's own timeframe, supply exceeds demand and prices do fall...and that is in the process of happening right now. Fortunately, I started hand loading after last crunch and have been unaffected this time though I sure would feel more comfortable if primers started showing up again...not yet.
@@drdrake63 Actually the first one I bought was to convert to 9mm to make my son a cheap suppressor ready because he liked the look. He ended up not liking the pistol so I kept it. Never intended to add the caliber to the line up. Got a couple of boxes cheap on clearance and it was over. Added more ammo and eventually started reloading them. Biggest benefit is that there is usually .40 cal bullets and brass when there are no .355. Just picked my second up out of lay away this week end.
Love that the thumbnail showed the absolutely worst 5.45x39 that has ever been marketed. Hasn't been made since 2015 AFAIK. .223 bullets loaded to the canelure which makes them so short LOA that they don't feed properly. Not all Tula is made in Russia. Please tell me where it is made?
You are so lucky where I live all we have is a Academy Sports and they almost never have ammo on the shells I've only managed to find ammo twice in the past 3 months someone should fire the manager at that place
Why should the manager be fired. Most companies send what they want the store to have. Is it the managers fault they are not being sent more than they sell out of between trucks?

Im sure folks still buy 40S&W pistols there. Why wouldn't they? I've seen the trend and bandwagon of 9X19 and a lot of folks give reasons its better, but they're either personal choices or misguided myths and hunger for popularity acceptance. And I've yet to hear a valid fact of it being superior to 40s&w. I love the 9x19 and most all other calibers including 9x18 makarov. Im no snob, I'm just not willing to sacrifice over a couple round capacity for an inferior round for defensive purposes. Range use ill shoot it all day and do regularly. But for carry its 40S&W, 10mm, or 357mag and depending on area 44mag or larger lol. P.S. 40s&w "advanced" as well right along with 9mm Parabellum/Luger and if one thinks its too "snappy" shoot a mag then shoot a mag with a micro compact 9mm those same folks bought to carry or even the same frame size. There's a little difference but no where near how folks put on and especially not enough to justify exaggerating and propaganda. Also look at gel and meat tests. Then look for hard barrier tests like vehicle doors and safety glass/windshields. See how many actually penetrate or make it thru and actually stay close to on target if they do. I had a hard time not carrying my 1911's , but 45acp done the same in tests. Bounced off. And I love 1911's big time. Appreciate the videos as always. 🐍🇺🇸
I bought a glock 22 in .40S&W about 3 years ago. Why not? The secondary market was flooded with them as all the police departments switched back to 9mm. .40S&W is a fine caliber.
Except it isn’t. All pistol calibers suck. The only reason police haven’t switched to rifles is because they can’t holster them.

Can't find 357 mag or 44 mag ammo.
Are u in Grandforks?
Lakeville, MN location
Was at a major sporting goods store yesterday here on the left coast. Lots of 9mm and 223 / 556 & 7.62 x 51. NOT cheap at all. 22lr was $9.99 a box of 50. Saw several cases of 556 Fed xm193 $897.00 No primers or powder available. and haven't seen 243,30-30, 30-06 etc. in over a yr.
1 April was when the price increases were suppose to take effect.
@@buffalobob870 yep you're spot on. Far as primers, a friend of mine is still finding them sporatically but of course at an increased price.
Thanks
Alack, i heard not about 7x57, .35 Remington, or .300 Weatherby. Oh woe.
I have bought 2 .40 S&W pistols in the past 3 years, and at my local Cabela's last night .40 S&W was on average $5 per 50 cheaper.
I bet you’re feeling pretty smart right about now lol. I’ve never had a problem with the caliber I just always figure go nine or 45.
Didn't realize that Sig / Ruger /Kimber don't have any current 40 cal offerings. Let's see what happens with the 10mm.
Any .35 Remington?
HOW WAS 45ACP.?😀
I have a bad feeling I'll never see my hunting rifle caliber of .35 rem ever again :(
Apparently 410 shotgun shells are done.
Today 4/10/22 out west dry ! For ammo hit and miss in Oregon ? Some online !/not a box of 410 I. Site ?
I'm seeing more 308 300 win mag 7mm rem 556/223 but no 30-06 and 3030
Like some other commenters, I've bought multiple 40 S&Ws in this past year, 2 used and 1 new.
Just bought 500 rounds for $192
I bought a Glock 23 a month ago. Since people are walking away from 40 that just means it’s easier for me to find.
.38....357....45acp are all high. Primers are extinct.
Bought many thousands pre covid.
@@survivalconcerns515 oh yeah I forgot human decision-making has been taken out of most business decisions at the store level at this point right modern Business sadistics Without context
@@blakew.2327 I work for a large retailer in distribution. Everybody always complains at me telling me your stores need more of this, that, and the other. I tell them to tell it to credit card reader at the check out. Because it has more control over who gets what than I do.
@@survivalconcerns515 interesting it is primarily based off of statistics on sales then well I guess I'm doing my part by buying particular items when they do have them nothing else to do then thanks for the info
@@blakew.2327 And other factors such as how fast certain leave the store without being paid for.
See any .380?
I did but didn’t get pictures of it
Fleet Farm
Disagree our Walmart has had no ammo for three yrs not one round
