    Daley, I think you missed a point in that the PS move cameras have to be mounted and stay in one place. I suppose you kinda covered it with management of cords, but for people who don't have a dedicated office, or worry about aesthetics the PS move is a hassle. You have to recalibrate the cameras and everything.... every.. single.. time... So my playtime is cut by almost an hour by setup and troubleshooting. I think my wife would strangle me if I always had the cameras up too. I would give the point to Nolo in that regard.

    • @DaleyTech
      @DaleyTech  7 лет назад +6

      That's true. Moving it back and forth is really no good at all and I could have mentioned that for sure. If that's what you have to do, then nolo is a no brainer pick cause it moves so easily. I did mention in the video that if you bump a camera, it needs re-calibrating but yeah, moving them on purpose as well does require a full pose calibration again.

      Man, I got kids. I've spent a solid week (after bedtimes) cranking away and troubleshooting with psmoveservice. I've finally got it working with one camera, plus kinect. TrinusPSVR, psmoveservice, driver4vr, etc. Holy crap, I used to live for that kind of tedious calibration and setup. Scoured my way through deep deep forums for "why do I need my PSVR to be on the main display, and how to I re-register my display ID#s" along with "newest Windows Update breaks psmoveservice pairing". I've finally got it all working, sorta. Have a second ps3Move camera in the mail, as well as a fourth psmove controller, and it's late at night now. Late as hell.... Shoot, I even figured out how to get TrinusPSVR to turn on just one LED, and calibrated that to a virtual HMD through psmoveservice (which was a whole other pain). But it is working..... Sorta. lol, I even have an assortment of different colored ping pong balls coming next week so that I can make a tracker for my virtual HMD on my PSVR. I went to school for software engineering, and am a hobbyist for electrical engineering. I know my way around arduino and raspberry pi coding fairly fluently. I know I can get this to work, and work well, with perseverance... But I'm 2 bottles of wine down now, and I think I hear my 1 year old waking up.... So I just ordered a Nolo from Amazon, because the wife is dying to play some custom songs in Beat Saber, and I'm DONE screwing around with this!

    I have the full PS Move set up, 3 controllers (yes I bought a 3rd for head tracking) 2 Bluetooth adapters, 4 cameras, and 2 PS Nav, my set up has worked great ever since I finished it, for VR headset I have a Google cardboard with a 1920x1080 hdmi display that conects directly to the graphics card, this to avoid latency as Riftcat didn't work great for me with my wifi signal, the display uses OSVR drivers to work

      Michael Ivlev I got it on ebay for 30 dollars, its recomended for it to be 5-7 inches, but those ones are EXPENSIVE, so I got a 3.5 inch instead, and I just put extra magnifying glasses from the dollar store to compensate FOV loss, this display is actually meant for Raspberry pi

    • @iamapie13
      @iamapie13 7 лет назад +1

      Michael Ivlev it's 30 dollars canadian by the way, and the resolution of the screen is equal to the oculus DK2, not the Vive nor CV1, as screens with those resolutions are really out of my budget, Id be better off buying a Pimax 14 than buying a screen with the Vive's resolution

    What I like about Nolo is that I was able to bring it to my friend's house and set it up within 15 minutes. They had a blast with tilt brush. I think Psmoveservice is better, but I prefer not having cameras in my living room :P. I can deal with the 180 turn around immersion breaking in exchange for not having to setup the Psmoveservice every time I wanna play a quick session. Plus the portability I'd awesome:)
    either way, great video !

    In my experience with the PSMoveService, the position tracking is actually very stable. It seems that the problem with the PS Move controller setup is that their motion sensors are kinda noisy,. Since PSMoveSerive/FreePie now supports virtual controllers also, I think a nice experiment would be to attach a ping-pong ball to an ex-phone (Like an S4), run FreePie Android on it for tracking orientation,and use PSMoveService with Virtual Controller support via FreePieBridge and then map that in a freepie script with its already-exisitng Hydra support. You can then install the Hydra steam driver for SteamVR and use your oldish mobile as a controller.
    With some Android/FreePie dev you could emulate buttons/trackpad to mimick the vive to some degree.

      Right, the PS Navi does not have a gyro or magnetometer in it, so it wouldn't track orientation.

    • @DaleyTech
      @DaleyTech  7 лет назад +4

      That's exactly it. There is no IMU in the navi controller. So you could track the navi controller in space, and program the buttons, but it's orientation would be 100% still and you couldn't twist it, or turn it or anything like that.

    Hello! Thanks for your videos! I buy pimax 4k and use it with PSMoveSteamVRBridge + 2x ps move + 4x ps eye + 4x pcie usb3.0 controllers(each camera is in root hub and in separate controller). PS move controllers works bad in beatsaber. There is a big delay, like i have rubber hands and plumbum sabers. Also sabers always flow somewhere.
    Start+select sometimes helps, but not always and not for a long time. I try to calibrate a lot and in different ways. Try to use 2 and 4 camera setup. Headset and game itself works great and "real-time", no signs of lag when move head fast (my computer is xeon-1650 12x3.6ghz/32gb ram/rx470 8gb). Also looks like controllers works fine in "test tracking poses" in PSMoveSteamVRBridge - fast and accurate.
    I also play beatsaber with HTC Vive recently - it was completely accurate, like i really have lightsabers in my hands, no matter how fast i move them. I successfully played expert. With PSMoveSteamVRBridge easy is a chalenge - miss too many targets.
    I don't understand, is PSMoveSteamVRBridge is really so bad and i need to buy nolo, or i just do something wrong. Can you please make video with EXPERT beatsaber with PSMoveSteamVRBridge (I don't find any fast VR action on youtube with PSMoveSteamVRBridge). Or give me please some advise how to increase accuracy. I look through all your videos. My camera positions is exact as yours. I want to try remount 2 cameras closer in front of game position, if no other ideas come :)

    I get my nolo vr pre-order from taobao.
    Setup not difficult. Official documents can be simpler.
    The controller is too low to detect.
    But overall.
    A very exciting experience.
    Because my phone screen has some problems.
    Dare not spend more time trying.
    Hope Riftcat and Nolo as soon as possible to provide wireless version.
    This will improve the gaming experience.
    I also got my Baofeng Mojing S1.
    It was the most comfortable headband device I used.
    Unfortunately, can not use more than 5.5 inches of mobile phones.

  • @MadmanEpic
    @MadmanEpic 7 лет назад

    I'm probably going to go with NOLO. A lot of VR games were designed with the Oculus's old "limited roomscale" thing in mind and don't require full 360° turning even without the quick-turn, and dealing with lighting conditions is not at all something that I want to do. I have to ask, though, what actually happens when you move the NOLO base station?

    • @0LoneTech
      @0LoneTech 7 лет назад

      MadmanEpic The Nolo base station is a lot like the Vive lighthouse units. It marks the origin of the play space and has moving parts so should not be moved while it's on. It has its own battery, so the system is very nearly wireless (only the headset marker must be cabled). When you activate the Nolo, you need to orient it toward the base station, which is as simple as turning towards it and double clicking the system button. If you're using things like SteamVR's chaperone you may need to redraw that too after moving the base station (btw, I've heard that gets a tad confused when combined with the 180 turn feature).

    Hey, I've watched almost every video on your channel now, and I'm so excited to be setting up my own vr system! Your videos are extremely helpful, and I want to say thanks. Anyway, have you tried any off brand psmove controllers? I'm looking to cut costs where possible, but I was unsure of compatibility. I've been seeing a lot of "Snakebyte nav con" controllers really cheap (as low as $7), but I wasn't sure if I should just spend another $10/controller to get the Sony version. Any advice?

      That's a great deal! And you really should get a 2nd camera. Don't worry, those are the cheapest part and should only cost you a couple euros each.
      To do that, you will want to map the vive touchpad to the PS move button. Watch this video here as I go over it all. For that game, you will want to make sure you set it up the second way I talk about here:

  • @0LoneTech
    @0LoneTech 7 лет назад

    You're right about Nolo being highly integrated. Even the calibration is built into the firmware. This leads to another tradeoff; the Nolo requires next to no CPU processing (great for the target of mobile), but on the other hand is restricted to its report rate (60Hz). In the comparison, though, the PSMove I believe requires a computer vision system which will demand more from your computer. I've also written a free software driver for the Nolo with OSVR, so it's not at immediate risk of abandonment.

    • @DaleyTech
      @DaleyTech  7 лет назад +1

      That's great to hear! But yeah, PS move service does have a bit of CPU load to monitor all the cameras so it does require a bit of resources. Should be about 15% for most modern CPUs. This was drastically reduced once the ROI was introduced cause before that I would normally get 40% or higher, lol.

  • @ruolbu
    @ruolbu 7 лет назад +6

    I would like your oppinion on some Nolo performance.
    1. Can you reliably throw objects? In some games it's okay but others simply don't work well. As a reference, could you start up Rec Room, enter your dorm room and try to throw the basketball and dart? Try throwing from abover your head (like you would in real world) or from your below (like you would toss the item to another person). For me and others objects simply drop to the ground. (Another example: can you try the demo for Bullets and More VR, use the Revolver and reload it by flicking your hand? I simply can't make this work)
    2. You mentioned the trigger and how nice it feels. But have you noticed that it appears to be digital only? There is no analog value. Once you reach that nice click you pressed the button, everything before that does nothing. Do you know of a game that requires holding the trigger but not fully pressing it, and can you do that action with the Nolo?
    3. And finally, have you had any BIG tracking problem with Nolo? I'm not talking about those little bumps you had while testing Tilt Brush. For many people the hands end up several feets away from them, or move mirrored to their actual arm movements. Sometimes this can be fixed by restarting the Nolo driver.
    Sadly Nolo is not as easy to use for some of us as it sounds from your video, so I wonder if you even had these troubles. No offense ;)

    • @bigo93
      @bigo93 7 лет назад +3

      Throwing with NOLO has it's problems. The devs know of the issue and are working on it.
      Their drivers are still in beta, so there will be bugs. And it's only just been released, you can only get it via pre-order from them.

    • @ruolbu
      @ruolbu 7 лет назад

      The only statement I've seen about throwing was a post from a couple days after the first units arrived at peoples homes. They said they had problems with the old driver (0.3.x at that point) and we should update (0.4 at that point). By now we have 0.6. and throwing still does not work. That's okay if they are still working on it, but where did you get that info? Do you have a link to a forum post, or facebook message?

    • @bigo93
      @bigo93 7 лет назад

      Which info? That the devs know? Or the throwing issue?
      NOLO have a forum and facebook page on which kickstarters are posting issues, bugs and other feedback.

    • @ruolbu
      @ruolbu 7 лет назад

      "The devs know of the issue *and are working on it*."
      This info.

    • @DaleyTech
      @DaleyTech  7 лет назад +1

      I actually brought the throwing issue up to them when I first got it, and when they released the new driver saying they fixed it, it seemed to work for me. Now, I tried it in Zombie Training Simulator and It worked correctly after the driver update. I've also tried in Castle Must Be Mine and it seemed to fix it there as well. I will keep this in mind for the next time I try some games.
      In regards to the digital trigger point... I didn't notice that and didn't try a game yet that requires an analog trigger. So this may very well be a true issue! But as Bigo said, the driver is still beta, so hopefully that's something that can get fixed!

    So I have a question for you dude..i have a oculus DK2 that has been collecting dust mainly because so many VR titles now need hand controllers..what about my setup would I have to change to implement move controllers? Could i use the head tracking that the DK2 has and keep a 180 with two cameras? or would it be better overall for me to just ignore the DK2 camera entirely and use the move cameras with a custom made head tracker?..i also wonder if the Move controllers would throw off the DK2 tracking camera.. I'd like to know your thoughts on the subject or if you've ever tried something similar before I dive in and try to make something work haha.

      Also i do have the option to use my phone..however it is pretty old its a moto G 1st gen and i doubt it would translate to anything desirable.

    • @DaleyTech
      @DaleyTech  7 лет назад

      The PS Move Service works great with the DK2. Using the DK2 sensor for head tracking along with the PS Move Service for the hand controllers only works great. I do that fairly regularly. It also means the setup is much easier since you don't need freepie or ps move freepie bridge. You can apparently get it to work as well without the oculus sensor, and use either the virtual HMD or 3rd controller option for head tracking, but it's not going to be quite a smooth and is a bit more involved for the setup. And when I say not quite as smooth, I'm not saying it will be bad, but it will be a bit noticeable. I would suggest to just try 2 cameras and 2 controllers and see how you make out. If it's decent, then you can add a 3rd camera to increase you coverage and then maybe later on look into using the OSVR server instead to use a virtual HMD and get yourself 360 degrees rotation.

    • @DaleyTech
      @DaleyTech  7 лет назад

      Oh, and I would agree with that phone. It will be disappointing compared to your DK2.

      I'm not very familiar with OSVR server do you have a video about the subject? does it work with the DK2?

    • @DaleyTech
      @DaleyTech  7 лет назад

      Yeah, you actually use that when you want use Nolo with the DK2. I have yet to get it working right, but here is an example of how they get it working with Nolo. Basically this just uses the DK2 as a headset and uses Nolo for all the tracking so it eliminates the need of the oculus software. So I'm sure there is a way to use this to some extent to use the head tracking of PS Move FreePie Bridge.

    • @0LoneTech
      @0LoneTech 7 лет назад +1

      This is most likely because orientation and position are tracked quite separately. There's a procedure to line them up: Keep all three tracked devices in view of the base station, pointed parallel (so facing the direction in the distance behind the base station, not pointed directly at it; I've heard it should be the direction the logo points for the ceiling mounted configuration), and double click the system button on a hand controller. It might be necessary to repeat it once or twice if it picks a funny variant. That double click tells the system that whatever direction they're facing, that's forward, for each part. 10 feet is an abnormal distance, though.. perhaps your set has a more serious issue.

    I spent so much time setting the God damn PS stuff, so many days wasted, money wasted, stress and anxiety, just to find out that the freaking controllers that are newer (not the 10 years old that you use) DO NOT COME WITH MAGNETOMETER!
    Without a magnetometer controllers slowly drift to a side, making VR a horrible experience imposible to play accurately.
    So i got sick of it, and bought a Nolo and am waiting for it to arrive. :)
    Anyway without your channel it would have been a bigger pain in the ass! so thank you Daley! for your tutorials and tips.

      That's so brutal that the PS4 controllers have it disabled. I have no idea what possessed them to do that! But yeah, having to straighten them out as you go isn't the most ideal situation. Daley Tech that's just sony! I checked the github. It appears they just didn't add the magnetometer chip to the new psvr bundle controllers, for some unexplained reason!
      Thanks anyway! I know Nolo's going to be great for me!

    Any suggestions on keymapping with Nolo? I can't get through even the Steam Tutorial because it keeps telling me to press A or X and there is no A or X button on the nolo. I tried the PSMOVE via your tutorial and it worked, but I kept having USB bandwidth issues and I was really having a hard time setting up the cameras to work right in my small basement room. Nolo so far tracks SUPER awesomely (yes I see the deadspots), but I'm for sure having issues with buttons not mapped right in game. I posted on the Nolo forums but I just see that they are working on it. There must be a way to adjust the steamsettings for button mappings, but I just don't know how to do it.

      Sounds like it's being confused that it's an xbox controller. This thread is for the Navi controller, but the steps within will help to change how controllers are viewed in Steam VR. It may take care of it for you:

    Daley there is a thing that i'm missing. Until today i was sure 100% that Nolo was far better than ps move. And for what i say is about precision. Are you saying that this will change drastically for move in future for updates?

    • @DaleyTech
      @DaleyTech  7 лет назад

      I don't know if it will drastically change, but I do know that hipstersloth (ps move service developer) has mentioned he has some ideas to smooth things out. He's been working on the Kalman filter which adds prediction to the controller tracking that would make it feel much smoother, and some other things that would help to smooth things out. They take time to develop of course. There is no ETA on any of it though. One thing he did mention though, is that it will never be perfect, but there is still room for improvement.

    • @leandropiccionenter
      @leandropiccionenter 7 лет назад

      Daley Tech i really doesn't understand if agree or not with the fact that nolo is going to a v2 just in so short time since the one is out. As you said the controller is quite tiny plus the limitation of 1 tracking station is a game breaker. But honestly 2 tracking station and better controllers will be a solution to the Htc Vive controller level. Dont you think? ps: you have any eta on the new nolo?

    • @DaleyTech
      @DaleyTech  7 лет назад

      It won't be soon if they do. To be honest, I'm not sure how their sales are going since after the kickstarter and after they bumped the price up. Since they are marketing this for mobile VR and to be portable, we may or may not see it. I agree though, a small design change on the controllers and a 2nd base station would really make it very appealing for steamVR users, but we'll just have to see if there is enough of a market for that down the road.

    I use the NOLA app to stream steam vr to my oculus go. Alvr won't work for me maybe because I have a Amd gpu. But I do not have the hardware. I was wanting to use ps move controllers and was thinking of using the kinect for the tracking. Heard it works better than the ps camera's. Guess there is no way to use webcams for tracking? I have a few of them. What are your thoughts on this setup? Can I still use the move controllers if im using nolo to stream instead of Alvr? I know I should have just bought the rift since I have a gaming pc. But I like that I can play my go anywhere.

It would make better sense to go with psmove if you have both platforms to play around with. With NOLO its not like you can use it for the ps4 if you even have that. (if you have PSVR)

    I'm super interested in doing this, I'd use the psmove controllers, how much does the experience differ from say the HTC vive?
    and an you use riftcat over cable to decrease the delay since its plugged directly into PC

    • @DaleyTech
      @DaleyTech  7 лет назад

      It's more or less the same idea, but it's obviously at a lower caliber. The Vive system costs around a grand for a reason. It's complete and works surprisingly well for a first gen. Riftcat does work over a tether and will help to reduce some latency depending on your network. If you have a very good wifi setup with wireless AC in optimal conditions, it won't be too far off of the tether. Riftcat is always working on their network streaming to help optimize the stream, but they even admit it will never match the vive for tracking latency and accuracy. But as it stands now, it provides a decent experience. V2.0 of Riftcat should be out in the coming months, and is supposed to have some really nice improvements for streaming added to it.

    • @Kipsterbro
      @Kipsterbro 7 лет назад

      rift cat doesn't really do much? it just transmits the data from the accelerometer/gyroscope to the PC, and the video from the PC to the phone.
      and gets the virtual display recognized as a vr headset?

    • @DaleyTech
      @DaleyTech  7 лет назад

      Mounting the PS eye cameras can be done in any way that works best in your room. I use really basic metal corner braces to do it. They just screw to the wall and I use velcro to stick the camera on it. Then just need to staple the wire so the cameras so they don't move afterwards. You can get a 4 pack of these braces for less than $5 at any hardware store.

    Im currently buying everything for the ps move setup and I have some questions. Do you need 2 bluetooth adapters and whats the max usb length?

    • @DefineOutside
      @DefineOutside 7 лет назад

      You need two bluetooth adaptors if you are using playstation move controllers and playstation navigation controller. The max length of USB is 15 feet, but that can be overcome by using an active USB extension cable instead of a passive one, although I do not know if an active or passive extension cable is able to power the Playstation Eye.

    • @DaleyTech
      @DaleyTech  7 лет назад +1

      Define is correct. The USB standard says 16 feet is the max reliable distance for USB 2.0. And you can certainly go much further with an active cable. The active cables draw very little power, so they have plenty left over for the camera. Using an active cable counts as adding 0 feet no matter what length. So the cable on the camera is about 6-8 feet long so you don't want to add any more than 10 feet of passive cable to it. I got lucky and have one camera running on about 20 feet of passive, but don't count on that working. Won't hurt to try though, it will work, or not work.

    I think I'm just going to take the easy way out with the Nolo. I'd rather not run usb wires all over my room for the cameras on the PS move service. Plus, I have easy access to a 3d printer, so getting a ceiling mount printed won't be too hard. For those of you who don't have a printer of your own- check with your local library. In my area about half of the public libraries have or are working on getting 3d printers, and most allow people to use them.

      Using gearVR gets rid of drift, so if that's your goal and you have a compatible phone already, that's a great choice. For tracking head movements you can actually use a virtual HMD with PS Move Service. You can probably get a 2 camera setup working for about $20:

    Argh you need to redo the trigger thing. Apparently it's not analogue.
    So say if the trigger was to accelerate a car.
    With an analogue trigger as you press the trigger down, you will slowly accelerate until you fully press down the trigger which will be max acceleration.
    But with these nothing will happen whilst you are pressing down, no acceleration until you press the button at the bottom with the trigger, at which point you will go immediately to max acceleration.
    Not tested myself, but it true, then it makes the whole trigger pretty much useless, except in FPS games.

    • @0LoneTech
      @0LoneTech 7 лет назад

      It's far from useless, as it can still be used for grab and such. Many SteamVR games use the trigger with a simple threshold, and those should still work. But for instance Blarp! and Tilt Brush use the analog function for nuance (pull strength in Blarp!, stroke width in Tilt Brush, iirc). Also, it does feel great... it's just that it's selling a range that simply isn't there :(

    • @bigo93
      @bigo93 7 лет назад

      This thing is when you add a trigger to something, you assume it will be analogue.
      There is no point in have a usually analogue feature and then making it so.
      It just a bit disappointing, especially if it was to save on production cost, which we know they had an issue with when it came to ordering.
