Ep. 69 I found this Horrible PAINTED Dresser and RESTORED IT...

  • I purchased this painted dresser from Facebook Marketplace for $30. It sat in my shop for months. I just didn't know what I wanted to do with it, other than remove the paint. I considered several different stain colors. I also considered building a new base. In the end, I decided to just remove the paint and apply the most natural finish. The woodgrain patterns are not the most beautiful I have ever seen, but still worthy of showcasing in my opinion. I do not create videos to impress others. I do this because I enjoy it. Sometimes I am able to earn money from ad revenue; other times just from flipping furniture. Every piece has challenges, and I hope you can learn from some of my mistakes before you take on your own projects. Thank you for all your support. Barry

      It come to a point when I see a grell painted dresser or some furniture, the chance it's MCM is huge 😜
      Just do whatever you feel for regarding no narrating or narrate. Guess it's good to change it up a bit, even though you have a pleasant voice . 😉
      All the best from Arctic Norway 👋👋
      PS. love that you kept it "original"... think the wood in old(er) dressers are so beautiful, and because it's often slower grown wood the "paintings" are gorgeous, even older pine furniture looks amazing natural.

    That chest of drawers came out beautifully! Covering all of that beautiful wood grain with that yellow paint was like putting Mother Nature in a gaudy body bag 😐 I've never went with scraping...I go directly to the "Strypeeze" paint remover 😂 I really like that cabinet you keep your sandpaper in, too.
    Fantastic work, as always!

  • @craigathonian
    @craigathonian Год назад +1

    Damn ! How sad to paint this beautiful wood. The maker clearly chose good quality lumber and once again you pulled out your magic and did an incredible job to restore it back to its beauty....maybe even better🏆 By the rangy grain and your mentioning of the yellow coloring, the wood looks like one of the pine species. It's a long shot by the age of this piece, but was there any smell of turpentine when sanding ?

  • @kayerin5749
    @kayerin5749 Год назад +2

    Ok, don't keep us in suspense! At first I thought Maple, but like you said this wood does not have a lot of graining character to it. So either a very plain Maple or Hickory? Could be pine but there were no knots that I could see... but then I'm no expert, and pine is pretty common to use. So, what was it?🤨

    There is not much you can do with a pine dresser, I have slathered on 4 or 5 coats of pool chlorine (about 8 times more concentrated than household bleach) and that didn't make much difference. Then a whitewash tinted blue helped some, but not tons of difference. It looked somewhat more like driftwood, but not really, I was going for a silver grey. This is probably less orange than it would have been though and they did a good job of avoiding the knots. I am happy you kept it simple. The worst is trying to make pine look like dark walnut or mahogany. Good job, Thanks. BTW, the pulls are the most interesting part, so glad you didn't change them.

    LOVED the quiet video this time! And everything about what you did was spot on. Love the blonde/bleach look!

    Who paints the sides of drawers? I'm surprised that person didn't paint the inside of the drawers. They even painted the back! So much paint. What a paint removal job! I'll bet it was so satisfying working on and saving a solid wood piece. Love the original handles. Unique. I also love the strong grain of the wood. What wood is it? Birch?

    What a change from the ugly yellow. So nice and Simple at the end. Really nice. Love the little cupboard (don't know the proper english name) where you store the sandpaper.

    Hey Barry. That bureau looks great. Nice and simple and clean. I did miss hearing you narrate though! It’s okay. Next time. Until the next video, take care!

    A great job on the repairs and finish. Consider a change of backdrop for the finished product viewing. It may kick up your work and details you put into it. Narragansett Bay.

    1000% better than that yellow junk. Why would anyone paint over real wood is beyond me. You did the best thing for that dresser...

    Great job! Years ago I took 7 layers of different colored paint off a round pedestal table. After lots of gel stripper, sanding and reconditioning the wood, it turned out beautiful! You have inspired me to once again salvage what someone else has damaged and bring it back to life....Thanks. I forgot how much fun working on that table was.
