  • With the news this week that the Cowboys & Dak Prescott aren't close to an extension, Jon Machota of The Athletic asked some questions about what a future without Dak Prescott as the Cowboys' QB would look like. If there is no Dak in Dallas, could Colorado head coach Deion Sanders steer his star QB son Shedeur to Dallas?

    IMO, the window was closed when Dak's rookie deal ended. With the salaries QBs are getting now days, teams need to manage their roster and turnover like an old school college program and plan on turning it over every 4-5 years. Only keep them around if they produce early and can be locked early - like the deal Tyron got. Disproportionately committing a huge chunk of salary cap to some players leaves the roster lacking in other areas. It happened when Romo got his deal and now Dak. With CeeDee and Micah looking for theirs too, last season was their best shot as a championship team. It won't be the worst thing (long term) if they blow it up . But then again, do we trust them to make good trades after the return they got for Amari?

      That’s not the reality. The Chiefs are always in the hunt. The Bills are always in the hunt. Ravens are always in the hunt. Not every one of the highest paid QBs are a SB contender but the SB has been won by only the highest paid QBs…..and Tom Brady.

    • @MarcoAspaas
      @MarcoAspaas Месяц назад +2

      @@williamsilva7425 Great examples - that add merit to my point, thanks! The past few seasons for Bills and Ravens haven't ended any better than the Cowboys. Yeah, Tom Brady won SBs with Patriots, but he started winning them on his rookie deal - Dak is not Tom, and the Pats teams had more weak spots each time they went to SB after he got paid. Tom also didn't break the bank to be resigned and took less than market value. As for the Chiefs' Mahomes, they also started winning SBs w/ QB on rookie deal, then locked him in to a long contract (a 10 year deal like Tyron's),and oh yeah, Dak ain't Patrick either.

    Thank you for being the media outlet that finally speaks truth to the notion of a “team friendly “ deal for Dak. I concur wholeheartedly! There’s no guarantee the “team friendly “ deal would bring in quality talent! Jerry as a GM has not been that great. I would give I him a grade C…..and I feel like I’m being very generous.

    Here is my question to you all. Does drafting a QB high in the first round guarantee you he will be any good? Consider the 2021 draft. Only Lawrence is still with his original team. Dak is a very good QB who does need to play better in the post-season, but you do know he will lead you to 10-12 wins a year, throw over 4,000 yards and 30 plus tds to about 10 interceptions per year. If everybody can just elevate their play in the playoffs, this team will find more success.

I like Dak and I think's he above a lot of other QB's in the NFL , but how can he think he should get paid the same or more than QB's that have won multiple playoffs gams, championship games and Super Bowls (Lamar, Mahomes). I would give Dak a contract with lots of incentives, like win a Super Bowl get $20M, lose a Super Bowl get $10M. Give him incentives for playoff wins. Incentives will make him work harder and motivate his teammates better.

    The Cowboys are strangled with the salary cap. Has anyone asked the questioned why can't they can't
    go after free agents in this market. Look at the roster they have 6-8 players have a massive deal. There is
    no money to go after anyone in the free market. Plus Dallas is also looking into the future. We need players
    in the rookie deals to rebuild and release the ones before their deal comes up. Trade Lamb and Parsons before
    their resigning that will keep you cap lower plus give you more money in the end to sign free agents. If you look at
    Belichick in the past he would trade before that player could ask for new contract and get picks to take advantage
    of no name players and draft players.

    My favorite response during this whole debacle is "who are you going to get that's better than Dak". WE AREN'T WINNING WITH DAK. It's like we've become so afraid of moving on, that we'd talk ourselves into being okay with this team paying astronomical amounts of money to an 8 year guy who hasn't won anything. Dak has 2 playoff wins. We've squandered several top 5 offense/top 10 defense squads since 2016. We're the first team in NFL history to win 12 games in back-to-back-to-back seasons WITHOUT A CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP APPEARANCE. It's time to move on because we can lose with a much cheaper QB. What's the difference between not making the playoffs and getting bounced after a game or two max?? Y'all remember when we drafted this dude? Romo went down and the Cowboys tried to find a veteran QB all week. When that failed, they were going to start Kellen Moore until his broke his leg or ankle in practice that week. Dallas went from starting Dak out of necessity, to literally being afraid to let this average QB go. He is not a winner, and he won't win on another team just like he isn't winning here. LET IT GO AND MOVE ON.

    Dudes, do we remember what happened between Staubauch and Aikman... that wasn't so long but it was nightmare city. Then remember what happened here between Aikman and Romo? Dak is not just a pretty good, he's like top-tier good. This cap space guy is just wrong.

  • @petropetty
    @petropetty Месяц назад

    They have the cap space but they never do shit with it. So if Dak leaves what makes anyone think they will use the savings to build a top team? They couldve restructured Diggs sign Lamb & had cap to go get guys but they didnt. The problem isnt the QB its the Front Office or more to the point Stephen Jones who has made it clear year after year he isnt spending in Free Agency & will wait to the last minute by low bslling players in talks. He is cheap & fir no reason. Its not money out of his pocket so use it smartly take a chance now & then but he wont.

    So if Dak signs a 'team friendly' deal, will this franchise finally start to bring in decent free agents to help this team? While everyone is saying Dak should help the team but someone explain what this help will look like? What did they do while he was on his rookie deal in way of help? Dak's cap hit wasn't that bad these past two years so where was the help? While most competitive teams will be right under the cap in a year, Dallas always has unspent money that could've went to getting help. If you don't believe Dak can get us over the top, I get it. But if all you have is Dak should take a team friendly deal while having no evidence that the Joneses will spend more on free agents, Jerry thanks you taking the spotlight off of him & CapBoy.

    Deion knows as well as anyone how bad Dallas' current culture is. Shadeur also doesn't currently look like that great a prospect.
    Secondly, Dak should take a "Team friendly" deal? From a family that is currently allowing a mass exodus and allowing the coach and 9 starters leave, DAK SHOULD NEVER EVER BEND FOR THIS TEAM!
    They waited 2 years too late to pay him and now they want him to get crucified by media members when they're terrible this year.
    Leave, Dak! Go play for a real team.

  • @jofieji5312

    Idk why yall are acting like dak holds the cards. He has 2 options. Take a team friendly deal. ie.32mil (like Goff) Possibly get carried to a Super Bowl and become a cowboy legend the likes of which we’ve never seen before. Or get one last massive payday with another team have a 32ndth of the fame and fortune and have like a 2% chance of winning a Super Bowl with that other team. Well that or Jerry just pays him because Jerry does goofy stuff. Still dak doesn’t really have any leverage.

    Instead of looking to move on from Dak how about Dallas in big games especially the playffs change their philosophy. How about Dallas not go into the playoffs or in regular season games vs upper tier teams with the same ol one dimensional stagnant and predictable offense where every wr and TE is running nothing but 5, 6, 7 and 8 yard curl routes and slant's and comeback routes that the opoosing defense sits on all game because they can read you like an open book. How about you give Dak an efficient running game to complement him and take pressure off him to where he's not pressing and forcing things. I watched lesser QBs than Dak like Jared Goff, Jalen Hurts, Brock Purdy and Jimmy Gorrapolo play in systems like that and each and everyone of those QBs have been to an NFC championship game and a Superbowl. My question is why can't Dak have that same support system? Why cant Dak in the playoffs have help from a run game? But instead i have to sit hear and listen to a bunch of casual clueless morons tell Dak he can't get it done when it matters and how he dont show up in big games blah blah blah. Sure we can talk about the pro bowl talent he's been surrounded by over the years but if any of you truly knew football y'all would also take coaching and play calling into account as well which has not been that good with Dak at QB. In fact can anyone tell me when was the last time this offense in the playoffs ran the ball effectively? 2018 wildcard round vs Seattle Seahawks where Zeke had over 100 yards? Y'all can move on from Dak all you wamt to but if this team still has this gameplan hesding into the playoffs that's if they make it with the new QB, the results will still be the same one and done exit. This time it won't be Dak getting blamed. I suggest you start thinking long and hard about that cowboy nation

    Cowboy fan still haven't learned their lessons. Until you get a coach with genius, you will still lose. If we're saying stuff like the quarterback has to overcome or if they're simple things we can't do like run the football with every team can. Do you have a coaching problem. The generals acting like Dak is going to go to another team that can't run the football. What's the odds of that? The Cowboys are the team that offenses get figured out. Can't throw the running backs. Team looks unprepared commits a lot of penalties. Why? Cuz we don't have the coaching. You can get rid of Dak sure. But if my McCarthy still here you will still lose. Here's my take getting deion Sanders is more important than getting his son.
