You should point out that a small cymbal can be convenient mounted in-between the mounted toms using the tom mount - it's a feature I love - another cymbal without needing a cymbal stand.
Love your playing, man. It's one thing to have the technical chops, but it's another to have the feel for what the song needs. You really know how make the tune good without trying to hog the attention. Also, this kit is amazing.
Hilarious original comment. Being one who emptied his wallet for this, I agree, they’re both crazy expensive and worth it if….. you have absolutely nothing else that you’re financially responsible for.
I LOVE the sound of Yamaha drums. I’ve really wanted to upgrade to a kit in these sizes because I’m short and a 20” bass drum would enable me to set the rack toms lower.
That whole kit is beautiful, love how you mention everything, including mic's. Really enjoy your videos Nick and learn a lot from them, keep it up, all the best! David Curtis Drumming
RCs always deliver. Mine have for decades. AND my new Stage Custom Birch kit? Most definitely holding its own with my RCs. Fantastic kit even before you consider the insanely low price tag. Cannot go wrong with Yamahas, IMHO.
The Meinl 22 extra dry medium ride and 14 inch extra dry medium hats are 2 of my favorite cymbals ever. They have so much character and really inspired me to play differently then I normally would with a traditional ride or brilliant ride with tons of wash and a lot of crashability. The first time I played the extra dry ride was the first time I couldn't really crash the ride that much and really opened up my playing with more stick definition and shoulder and bell work.
Actually, the Audio Technica 5045s are large diaphragm condensers, not ribbon mics. But that's an understandable misconception, they have a rectangular diaphragm that makes them look like ribbons. Great drum kit though, and the Byzance cymbals sound awesome with it.
Really is a GREAT kit - get this kit and you'll never need to buy another kit for the rest of your life - they are perfect for any & all types of music and they are built like a tank & will last for ever.
I had an 8 piece RC kit in an Emerald woodgrain kit back in the late-90's - 2001, Carter Beaufort & Manu Katche had similar kits around that era....I really should have kept it but it was a hog to transport with a set of octobans & a roster of fine Sabian HH cymbals. a five piece today costs more than my full set-up.back then...my tinnitus is gone & I'm tempted to sell my V-Drums to go back to an acoustic kit...Nick gives such outstanding reviews...
WOW Nick! Truly Inspirational drumming and Tuning as well! You make every kit, regardless of price point, sound like a million dollar set! After watching your drum kit reviews, I don't even bother with others because I know your playing/tuning and reviews are the best!!!!
Exactly, but I suspect they didn't show it on purpose, as it is a potentially unpopular feature - so, to fulfil the video's purpose, which is to sell drums, they didn't show it. It's very cler they did this on purpose, because the lift is one of the main changes in the RC update.
Once again, you're ripping it up Mr. D'Virgilio !.. I just picked up a vintage Yamaha Tour (8000) series drum kit in standard sizes which i believe are the same shell composition as the recording customs, with the slight exception of mahogany plies in my kit.. Same finish as you have on the hoops of this kit. Got it for under $500 Cdn. dollars !! I can't wait to play them.. On a side note, the new videos are recorded superbly.. Keep up the great work guys !
I think it IS HILARIOUS that peeps have put two (2) thumbs down. OMG really!!!??? AMZING sounding drums and cymbals AND NICK D !!! This guys got SO much talent!!! It's funny 2 thumbs down, LOL. And I love the new perspective from above, I do like the auditorium background better though.
A lot of drummers have a personal preference on the snare they choose. With shell packs you can pick whatever snare you like without paying for a snare you may not use.
These are the best sounding drumkit I ever heart, ich love the wood and the bearingedge ist just perfect to get a very allround sound out of ervery drum. I definetly want to try out one of these! Where do you get these killer play alongs, it would be so fun to play them. Please tell me.
Hi Nick, I know you have already done a Tama b/b demo but would love to hear one in a mix like this. This is one of the best mixes of your drum videos. Thanks.
One nitpick: You're showing the drums from Nick's perspective, a nice overhead shot, but you have the overheads panned in audience perspective so that the 10" is on the right. Really weird.
Hi Rob, I know, it's a tough one. We really like the overhead shot but decided to keep the panning like the front view because that is the main shot, otherwise we would have to change the panning back and forth and that would be even weirder, I think. Hopefully you can still enjoy the sound of the drums. All the best! Nick
to me, this is how a drum kit should sound. I am NOT a fan of al these flavor of the week blended shells, , I have tried them all live.. but, LOVE high quality birch kits... They project, they are clear, and they just sound great. Live or studio.
Sorry guys, but being a studio player myself, i can say these drums are gread indeed, but overpriced. We had yamaha's both recording and tour custom in the studio for a recording session the other day, both with remo ambassadors on every tom and floor and powerstroke 3 on bass drums, and dude, the tour custom, sounded deeper, fuller, and finally better than the recording. All throug standard mics, like Shue SM57 for the snares, MD421 toms&floor, D112 Kick, Neumann km184 for OH and HH. Again, recordings are incredible drums, the only thing wrong is the price tag on it! *A tour custom costs about half or a third of the price of a recording custom.
using a lift is not the greatest ideal i have experienced serious issues using one on my gretch jazz kit with and 18 inch kick .its also not needed with a 20 inch kick ,but to each his own ,i guess
why do you never advertise mapex drums. i love your reviews and i love would love it if you advertised mapex. i play a mapex armory kit and love it. i would love to see a review from you nick on any mapex kit.
+Thomas Hope yes. the mapex armory is the best kit ive ever had. i can get any sound out of any of the floor toms and all the other drums. p.s. my fav is the 14-12 great floor tom
Nick I know it's a matter of preferences how to tune your toms but for the sake of the demo videos it doesn't help when you tune then so low like you always do
Hello guys! I have just order this Yamaha Recording custom kits with size 20 10 12 14 and snare 14, I have a Tune Bot studio device... Can you show me the Frequency Hz of all pieces of the kit so I can tune my drum kits to make a good and quality sound inside of my music room? I'm waiting for your help! Thank you so much!
Nick could make my cooking pots sound great as he is such a great drummer. By far the best drum reviews on RUclips.
he is a killer player, no doubt about it
You should point out that a small cymbal can be convenient mounted in-between the mounted toms using the tom mount - it's a feature I love - another cymbal without needing a cymbal stand.
I still have my cherry wood Yamaha recording custom drums from the mid 1980s.
Can I have it?
I bet it's the best sounding kit you've ever played.
Yeah, I have the Birch custom absolute in cherry red. Best sounding kit I've ever played.
Yamaha is pure luxury. Like owning a Rolex
Nick is an amazing drummer, at Sweetwater must be grateful to this guy
Those cymbals are drier than my ex's knickers
tom feathers 😂👍
and there by... DELICIOUS
Nice sounding cymbals but ugly as sin. They look like something from grandma's garden shed. Yes I know that's the in thing now.
tom feathers Not to mention the drums are deader than my ex-girlfriend in bed!!!!!
@@rodneylee4026 Really? I used to hate the sound but love the design. I now think they look and sound great.
Love your playing, man. It's one thing to have the technical chops, but it's another to have the feel for what the song needs. You really know how make the tune good without trying to hog the attention. Also, this kit is amazing.
Killer tone and amazing playing.
That ride tone is killing me😍
Fantastic colour and legendary drums! The only thing is missing here are-pin stripes-of course:)Gadd made legend of this drums/sound.
Whenever I feel sad and miserable I would go to this video to cheer myself up. Just the sound of it makes me feel more alive. 😁😁
Sweetwater is so fortunate to have you onboard, Nick. You do such a great presenting new products.
bought the black ones!
50 Ways to Empty Your Wallet
Worth every penny, especially if you can play like Nick!
And keep their value. Yamaha drums.
Hilarious original comment. Being one who emptied his wallet for this, I agree, they’re both crazy expensive and worth it if….. you have absolutely nothing else that you’re financially responsible for.
Best sounding drums I've heard on Nick's videos.
He really makes the drums sound amazing. Beautiful playing, and beautiful sounding kits!
I LOVE the sound of Yamaha drums. I’ve really wanted to upgrade to a kit in these sizes because I’m short and a 20” bass drum would enable me to set the rack toms lower.
keep the 22 and get shallow toms
Guy Hughes Tried that, still need a smaller bass drum. Plus I prefer the punchiness of a 20.
20 is the better size, fight me
Nick is so down to earth and a consummate professional.
That whole kit is beautiful, love how you mention everything, including mic's. Really enjoy your videos Nick and learn a lot from them, keep it up, all the best!

thanks man

I bought the matching snare. 14X8...it sounded awesome live. The sound man loved it.
I love a 22" ride.
Nick, you stated that the Recording Custom series had an optional matching snare drum @3:52. Yamaha had discontinued that option about 20 years years.
Really is a GREAT kit - get this kit and you'll never need to buy another kit for the rest of your life - they are perfect for any & all types of music and they are built like a tank & will last for ever.
😎🙌
I love these drums, they sound and look great. I just bought an Emerald Green kit, it's top notch! cant beat it!
Actually... you can lol
@AcePitcher 6 Anything TAMA Starclassic.

Steve gadd, excellent drummer!
How do you get such a great sound with just 3 mics? Especially no snare mic? Sounds pretty balanced
It would have been nice to see the bass drum lift.
Exactly, but I suspect they didn't show it on purpose, as it is a potentially unpopular feature - so, to fulfil the video's purpose, which is to sell drums, they didn't show it. It's very cler they did this on purpose, because the lift is one of the main changes in the RC update.
That 10" tom sounds surprisingly deep. Cool
Sweet playing, Nick!! Plus a sweet kit!! I have a RC kit with a 20x18 kick that I bought in 2006 and I absolutely love it!! Great video too!!
Snare and first tom kills me everytime whenever I hear this....
I just got one of those Absolute Hybrid Maple snares a few days ago and it is amazing.
Once again, you're ripping it up Mr. D'Virgilio !.. Nick is so damn good. If I had half the groove he has, I'd be just fine with that.
The first toon was from steve gadd's zildjian day performance solo
this is the best yamaha recording custom video, and the sound of this kit is so great!!! I am glad i have one of these ; )
Killer drums, and I think I'm falling in love with those audio Technica 5045s... I'll have a mic locker full of nothing but AT pretty soon!
prefection! maybe one of the best drumkist on the market! Yamaha is killer
Wonderful sounding kit. However, those crash cymbals to my ear have more of a white noise appeal. Everything else, spot on!
Why don't they include the snare with these kits anymore?
it's a shell pack. thats the point.
A lot of drummers have a personal preference on the snare they choose.
With shell packs you can pick whatever snare you like without paying for a snare you may not use.
Nick D’Virgilio would be an interesting drummer to watch him play with the cymbals raised up high.
Nick always nails it...
Nick,
Great drumming as usual. I really enjoyed your vlogs with TFF tour, really great drumming and articulate explanations of what you do with drums.
amazing sounds. i like the coated heads on there...you don't see that a lot. That color is not me.
Does anyone know what heads these are? I didn’t hear him mentioning anything about that
You're a bad ass Nick! Your gear vid's are the best on the net... Love this kit! Someday Sweetwater ~ Someday :-)
These are the best sounding drumkit I ever heart, ich love the wood and the bearingedge ist just perfect to get a very allround sound out of ervery drum. I definetly want to try out one of these!

20” kick drums are so underrated

Love your demos brother... always so well done and informative
$2500 for those 2 mics! holy crap!
You always sound great Nick....
Can you do a review of YAMAHA Stage Custom kit, please?
using a lift is not the greatest ideal i have experienced serious issues using one on my gretch jazz kit with and 18 inch kick .its also not needed with a 20 inch kick ,but to each his own ,i guess
Great sound and great playing.
What a kick ass drummer
Amazing sound!! What is the name of the opening track if I may ask?
Anyone know why Sweetwater doesn’t carry the Absolute Hybrid Maple kits?
Just the snares it seems.
just bought a brand new kit w/22" kick.and 16" floortom.
These drums are made of the same American Birch that everyone uses. Not sure why they cost soo much.
Let's play "NAME THAT TUNE" ... Nic, what songs are you playing along too in the latter part of this video ? I love that Hammond B3 sound.
Wow, those cymbals!
I wish the shell pack with come with snare drum
nice Demo Probs to you guys 👍
Great vdo once again. And that tune at 6:45, so inspiring! Cheers!
Playing drum great requires a ton of strength and health. Great here.
also I hope that setup means a meinl extra dry video is coming up soon!
why do you never advertise mapex drums. i love your reviews and i love would love it if you advertised mapex. i play a mapex armory kit and love it. i would love to see a review from you nick on any mapex kit.
you have a mapex armoury? well i have a question lol. i was wondering if you can tune the floors pretty low?
+Thomas Hope yes. the mapex armory is the best kit ive ever had. i can get any sound out of any of the floor toms and all the other drums. p.s. my fav is the 14-12 great floor tom
I have Mapex Armory kit and yes, you can ;)
thanks for the answers guys :D
Sweetwater currently doesnt review or handle any Mapex kit
Nick I know it's a matter of preferences how to tune your toms but for the sake of the demo videos it doesn't help when you tune then so low like you always do
i gotta admit I have a 16x20 and 18x22 matching starclassic performer kicks and the 22 is dusty
You have a great style!
Didn't know Jon Lovitz was so good on drums.
A much more attractive Jon Lovitz.
he also got in shape!
You guys gotta do the Absolute Hybrid Maple
can you please do a review of the yamaha stage custom thank you, and great drumming as usual nick ;)
Great looking kit! looks a lot like mine!
Can you guys please do the Yamaha Stage Custom!!!!!
Woww pls can u tell the snare drums ? Which is that snare ??
You’re a badass drummer my friend
Could you guys review the Yamaha stage custom birch?
Dave Weckl also played those I thought.
Are they made in Japan? Or Taiwan? Or China?
Great playing Nick. Great sounding kit. Dream Kit in fact.
Just don't like that colour at all! :(
Ure the man nick
Intro song?
What is the name of the Music you play drums to? They are very nice
Sound great!
What the set for cymbals? Is sound so good
Anybody know where the three songs on this video are from?
Hey Nick Great drumming as always.. Can you review a Maypex Saturn V?
