When Freddie Mercury died and they had a tribute concert to him over in London George Michael took his place and satin with the rest of the band queen and performed the queen song somebody to love you should look at that life performance because George Michael is every bit as good as Freddy it is an amazing performance
Yea, George did an amazing job at the Freddie tribute show and while he was paying tribute to Freddie, his own husband was dying of AIDS. George is more of a GOAT than most people realize. ❤🏳️🌈 Watch his documentary.
The greatest singers don't sound different live than they do on their records. I don't know why it makes me so happy that y'all enjoyed this so much, but it does.
Another vote for George's cover of Somebody to Love from Freddie's tribute concert at Wembely stadium. 72,000 fans all singing and clapping in unison. It's truly one of the most spectacular live performances you'll ever see. George has one of the greatest voices in music. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, I'm Still Standing, Benny and the Jets, Believe, and This Train Don't Stop are my favourite Elton songs. Have fun going down the rabbit hole.
Just for added context, This is Elton’s song recorded back in 1974. You should also listen to his original version. The video you watched was filmed from a George Michael concert in 1991 where he regularly covered Eltons song, Don’t let the sun go down on me, on his tour. On the last concert of his tour, it was a complete surprise to the audience that Elton John came out on stage to sing with him. Even though they had performed this as a duet at Live Aid in 1985, it wasn’t until this performance that brought the song back to the billboards at number 1. I love both versions!
Elton is of course a legend but it was George Michael who lifted this particular song into the stratosphere. No one really plays the Elton solo version any more on radio etc because what’s the point when this extraordinary performance exists. Their voices complement each other so well.
@@robinmeltzer9024 Probably because I listen to rock stations. I like the original version best. The timing seemed off on this version. Probably because I’m used to the original.
George Michael's faith album was the first one I ever owned. I bought it with my birthday money along with a walkman when I was 12 way back in 1989 😆 🤣
George Michael also sang some incredible duets with Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Ray Charles, Luciano Pavarotti, Mary J. Blige, Rufus Wainwright, Beyoncé, Tony Bennett, Paul McCartney… so much to check out! His voice always shone through! 💜
I'm not a huge fan of George Michael's music, but there is no denying he does have one of the most powerful voices in music. I've actually seen him live several times, my ex-wife was a huge fan. I have never heard another vocalist sing live SO PURE and perfect...and I've seen many singers live, including Freddie. For me, his best vocals are his ballad "Different Corner" when he sings that "live" the audience is silent. Such a beautiful ballad. The line "turn a different corner and we never would have met" is beautiful. Amazing vocalist and songwriter....and nobody can cover an Elton song (this one) or a Queen song (somebody to love) sing them live and sound so perfect. Please react to George Michael singing Somebody To Love with Queen at the Freddie memorial concert
You are correct....Elton is in Versace and George is in Thierry Mugler.... I remember the day they both came in to the clothing store I managed in NYC called Charivari, and we dressed both of them for this performance. They were regular clients at the store, as was every major rock star and actor at the tiime.
I was only 10 when this came out and remember watching it for the first time, one thing I learned recently that took me 30 years to appreciate is how much of a perfectionist George Michael was to ensure this live version was pitch perfect
George Michael had a phenomenal voice. He sounded even better live than studio recordings and that’s saying something special for any artist. This particular performance has become iconic and is the absolute best rendition of “Don’T Let the Sun”.
Fun Fact: Elton and Gianni Versace were very close friends until Gianni was murdered in front of his residence. Versace also designed Elton's concert stage show for his 'The One' tour. I had to chuckle when you mentioned Elton wearing Versace.
You're not wrong..this song takes EVERYBODY to church!!💜💜💜 RIP George!! My favorite artist of all time!!💫💫💫💞💞 another BANGER duet is George Michael with the QUEEN herself, Aretha Franklin, " I Knew You Were Waiting For Me". Maaaann....it'll give you the chills! Great reaction to an amazing collaboration with two of the best of my generation! Absolutely love George , he has been a favorite since his very first Wham album!! Love Elton too, but George makes it for me and you two appreciating it made it that much better! Thanks you, DO MORE GEORGE, you can’t go wrong. 💕🌟💕🌟💕🌟
I look forward to each and every one of your reactions! You two have beautiful smiles and spirits. I am 59 (in 3 days) and love to see your take on all the music I grew up with. These are TWO ICONS! I believe you were trying to think of David Bowie with Freddie. R.I.P to 3 of the four, unfortunately. Thank God Sir Elton is still with us. (Saw him and Billy Joel together......fire!) You keep reacting and I'll keep coming back! 👍❤
George Michael was my favorite singer in high school. I slept on the sidewalk outside a Specs record store to buy my tickets to his concert before they sold out. Those were the days! Edit: two really awesome songs of his are: Spin the wheel and Too funky.
You have to really think about how great these two sound and they were live! I've had the pleasure of seeing these two legends and they were fantastic ! 🔥🔥
I think this performance was Eltons first step back into the public eye after spending time in Rehab. George & Elton were great friends and they shared a special friendship with Freddie Mercury. The song is an Elton original and it also appears on the 'Lost Boys' soundtrack
Big Hit combos are: yes George Michael and Mary J Blige covered a Stevie Wonder Song, "As". George and Aretha Franklin "Knew you were waiting" hit song. Elton, Stevie, Dionne & Gladys Knight, "That's what friends are For" big hit. Aretha Franklin and Annie Lennox "Sisters are doing it for Themselves" another big hit.

I know I'm late to the game here, but not really. I watched your video quite a while ago but I felt maybe you wouldn't see It with so many comments but I just had to in case. There's a big difference even If this was Elton's song but listen to George's part again. You'll hear & see the heart & emotion behind George. I've never heard that kind of emotion & pureness in any artist, & that's because George put his heart & soul into everything he sang! I guess you'll just have to watch & hear more of George. I believe you'll know just what I'm talking about & he will touch your hearts the same way as millions of people. LOL, I'll be watching for more George Michael! Thanks!
