I truly believe John never got the recognition he deserved. There is no better singer/singer writer & should have got SO much more recognition than what he has received. God bless all of us from the old school 🏫
I really believe this is one of the greatest country songs ever written. I also believe he is right about returning to values. He's telling it like it is!
This is real country music. John Conlee is one of my favourite real country stars because his music tells stories, and takes me to a place in time where I was not fortunate enough to grow up. Fun fact that I just learnt, me and John have the same birthday except hes 57 years older than me. He's 76 and I'm 19.
In my humble opinion...John Conlee is 1 of my 5 favorite all-time country music singers. 1.John Conlee 2.Ronnie Milsap 3.Gene Watson 4.Don Williams 5.Gary Stewart I 49 yrs old now...I can remember back in the 70s & 80s on country music stations...you couldn't turn on the radio without 1 of these 4 Legends being on a country station... Lord...how I miss all this REAL COUNTRY MUSIC!!!!!
Randy Miller : Right on with your choices.....I call today’s music ‘counterfeit country’. A lot of noise by artists wearing their cleanest.dirty shirts.
He's absolutely right about needing to go back to values but these values must also include our environment, local businesses and actually doing a real days work. John has such a natural voice great singer
@@jaysmith2414 no they don't I used to do concrete work back in the early 90s and a crew of 3 of us could do 2 house foundations per day and we wheeled the concrete in wheelbarrows . That same company now has 6 people and they use all automated equipment and do 1 house foundation per week .
My gosh, always liked this song but in '84 this song was truly meanng- full to me. A year of a daughter ho means so much to me but so painful that it changed my marriage.
Love his music, have his albums and have been to several of his concerts. I HATE it when he stops singing every other line and just speaks the words. Won't pay to hear you talk Mr Conlee. Love your music and that's what I want to hear. On a lighter note I believe John is one of the most underrated artists in Nashville.
Sharon, this is Donald. I found your comment to be most interesting. I wonder if you would be willing to tell me why this song brings a tear to your eye. Sharon, I'm 62 years old and have been blind since birth. I love this kind of music that has a positive message. Have you ever heard Alabama sing Down Home or Because he lives? Sharon, these are beautiful songs. I have plenty of other songs to tell you about if you're interested. Sharon, have a great day!!!
For some of us, it is in our DNA; we can't loose it. We just earn the labels that assign us to the "old" and that's very right for me. My grandkids will never get to be of the "old" school no matter how old they get. It is something that happens miraculously and never given but earned; much like inevitability, dna, schooled in the hard knocks of life. The little red school house where I spent my first three years formed me as an adult. They just aren't the same environment these days as they were when I was in kindergarten. I started in Ithaca, NY and every time we moved the rules of each state were different and that's why I spend so many years in Kindergarten from NY to VA, to NJ. I ws the most over-educated kid on the block. L O L
Well hello there. My name is Donald Mayer. I was married for 28 years and I'm from the old school. My bride died in December of 2016. Many times, my wife said that I did not sign up for all the problems we had. Janet, let me make it abundantly clear I signed up for all the problems we had. I can only hope you have a husband who loves you with all his heart. If you don't, you're more than welcome to communicate with me. You may send me a reply if you want to do so. I'm so glad you have grandchildren. That is so wonderful! Janet, have a fantastic day!!!
@@donmayer58 - I am flabbergasted and thinking of how to begin this. Why on earth would anyone think for one minute that life would be easy and full of pink roses? I was one who looked at each dawning as a new day with no mistakes in it, yet. Being from the old school just means life was learned by living it and not by dreaming it from any tv show or someone's definition of it. LOVE is still a four letter word; its definition is simple enough: a verb. I don't think anyone ever thinks that any choice they make is an instant success story. It is not a reasonable assumption even for a child. I taught my children about the Law of Cause and Effect. It is always in play regardless if you believe it or not. No one "signs up" for a hard life but life will fool you and you have to be prepared to deal with it. You always have two choices and I deliberately chose to move forward, not backward. After the failure of my 8-year marriage to a military man I took a six year break trying to heal a broken heart. In that period of time I did a lot of growing up and into what became an extrovert, avoiding personal relationships, but developing my radio personality and becoming a party hostess for the singles group I belonged to in those days. It was a very important transition time for me and I eventually became a counselor for Suddenly Single people. I never realized that it would be a great training ground for dealing with six children, grand children and community service. I certainly take the time to count my blessings; I can't complain. I am abundantly blessed. I am always in overload and sometimes explosive - in the right way - mostly with my Dad's sense of humor. I really believe when things get tough - the tough get going. Not always to what the family appreciates, but nevertheless, reality and often in-check. And thanks for the comment. It's nice to find out that someone really does read this stuff! It's the only way I have of "letting it all hang out" and getting it out of my system. I married three times and each one worthy of a book. I've outlived everyone, much like my mother did and she lived to 101 and her mother to 104. So it looks like I have a way to go.
And as a side note from an old disc jockey: I love John Conlee's rendition of "The Old School and "Stuff That Works." My station played music considered "middle of the road" and Classics. Now I love country as you can tell by what John Conlee sings.
Heard him does this at Billy Bob's in the early 1990's. Still sounds amazing! He was one of the best entertainers to see in person. At Billy Bob's he walked around to all our tables as he sang. I wish things were like the olden days still.
Oh Yeah! Old School I am, or perhaps refined Old School. Anyways I can get it done. Love Conlee. Listened to him in the late 70's wearing my rose-glasses.
I can remember riding dirtroads w mama n daddy when I was a kid. Sitting in the backseat w my little brother. Listening to great music like this. I made 40 this year and I realize this music will never get old to me.
Been a John Conlee Fan my entire life, so glad to see him still singing you can see how it still makes him happy to perform. A true Legend. Thanks John.
I have such great memories of his music when I was kid. Mama had a tape of his she'd play while she cleaned house. Such a great voice and most certainly underrated. Love this song! God Bless John Conlee!
Ok Mr John your voice is undeniably great but with this song you hit the nail on the head. Why can’t we, us, our country just go back to the beautiful days like this. Thank you sir.
I'm an auto mechanic. Hooked a good woman and started a family. Still together. There's been temptation but I'm from the old school. Thankyou sir
We had the privilege of seeing John Conlee at the Grand Ole Opry twice. He's one of the last of the real country singers. God bless him.
My how times have changed.
Bread and water saved a old country drunk like me God bless you john and your family love you so much...
I truly believe John never got the recognition he deserved. There is no better singer/singer writer & should have got SO much more recognition than what he has received. God bless all of us from the old school 🏫
He does not write any songs -'mostly he sings the songs written by one of the masters of songwriters named Harlan Howard and/or Hank Cochran
I love his voice so much.real country music here makes me tear up.
John Conley is the best country singer ever gotta like rose colored glasses. I grew up listing to him. Thankyou

I'm 28 years old.
This is one of my favorite song ever.
And I'm proud to called myself «Old School»!
I was from the old school as well. Too bad my my wife wasn't. Good luck if you can find one from the old school
We need more youngsters who like the old school. Have a blessed life.
I'm from the Old School and thank Jesus my wife is too.
That voice is iconic.
I really believe this is one of the greatest country songs ever written. I also believe he is right about returning to values. He's telling it like it is!
John Conlee is one of my favorite Country Singers....and this is one of my favorite songs! 🎶
His voice is just outstanding. Just as strong and memorable as ever. Shame country does not let these legends on the radio anymore.
In Bakersfield CA they still play these songs on the radio.
KCW 107.1
Nashville, TN 105.1 the wolf plays these treasures
In Phoenix 94.1
South of Atlanta, 100.1

John Conley & John Anderson are 100% real country stars
Roger Bowen Damn right. They both have unique voices and they’re also both very humble, down to earth great guys.

Randy Miller lovely list. Love them all
Great choices! They are Amazing singers. mine has to be Waylon Jennings Merle haggard and willie Nelson!
There have been so many greats that it's hard to pick only five, but I'd have to add Merle Haggard among the best.
I'm right there with you brother, great to them still performing, sad to see them aging away.
He's absolutely right about needing to go back to values but these values must also include our environment, local businesses and actually doing a real days work. John has such a natural voice great singer
Most people do a real days work and don't get paid what they are worth.

Country Music as it should be . America lost it's way . And Country Music sadly followed it . Love me some Ol School John .
Conlee has such a unique voice. Such an underrated singer.
I'm 45 and never found my soul mate. I was raised this way by my grandpa. I feel like I missed out on life no kids no wife no bond . No forever 😢😢😢😢😢😢
It's not too late but as a divorced man, 42, with 3 kids.... it's unbelievably hard. The dating world isn't 'old school' anymore
One of the living legends and one of my favorite singers of all time
I agree, he was one of the BEST.
One of my favorite singers too.
When country was country
He still is
My gosh, always liked this song but in '84 this song was truly meanng- full to me. A year of a daughter ho means so much to me but so painful that it changed my marriage.

Cold shivers
My Sweet Brother says I'm Old School and that's good enough for me. And John Conlee love rose colored glasses.
Thank you
I am a classic metal guy. The energy and feeling Mr Conlee puts off is amazing. You could see how that song resonated with the audience.
John has been a class act since the beginning.
Wow! That song still brings a tear to my eyes..
