I went through status epilepticus last year when I was having an extensive EEG done. I ended up in the ICU for 6 days, 4 of those days I was hooked up to a breathing tube because the seizures refused to stop when I got the anticonvulsant and had to be put in a coma, and I came back to consciousness with 3 IV’s in my arm. I dealt with all of that and remember NONE of it, I had absolutely no memory of the day before my ICU visit and the first couple days of my ICU visit (pre-coma). I “fell asleep” (that’s what I thought I did) on Friday and when I woke up it was Thursday, 6 days later than it was when I “fell asleep”. It was quite a surprise to me waking up in an ICU bed surrounded by IV lines, monitors and a ventilator, opposed to my hospital room bed (being heavily drugged didn’t help either).

@@NarenRSKumar All is well, thank you. I had to be on a strong anticonvulsant for a couple months after that as a precaution, but no incidents have happened since that day, and I’ve also only had a few (very small) seizures since then, and those were when I was getting an EEG done at a different hospital. Thankfully the second round of neurologists knew better than to take me off all of my meds like the first round of neurologists did, which was what lead me to my pleasant ICU stay. Mayo Clinic is definitely the way to go when it comes to more extensive procedures, they did a way better job with my EEG than the other hospital did.

I had a 6 minute seizure yesterday, it was my first full-on seizure (the ones before were very minor, usually lasting a few seconds. in this seizure i was dazed, and just incapable of thinking, i was just sitting in the lounger staring at the ceiling while my heart rate ramped up slowly., the only fortunate thing was my friend was there, and attentivley kept his eyes on me. Making sure i didn't injure myself. He is getting 3 boxes of cider for that.

Had 5 seizures, one lasted a little over 5 minutes and I woke up in a hospital room and my mom was at the foot of my bed, the first thing I said was " where am I? " and that's when my mom told me I was in the hospital. I have a vague memory of waking up in the ICU and them telling me I went into status epilepticus and that they had to stop it with medicines. I've never been so confused in my life but apparently I had 5 back to back seizures and had been throwing up all day and despite me puking up my morning meds all my blood work showed that the meds were in my system. Luckily my specialist called while I was having the first seizure and explained to my mom what was going on.

I was in a hospital when I was 15 for 7 months and saw an girl my age come in and out with what I assume now was status epilepticus because she’d be in full grand mal-or what I now know as tonic-clinic seizures for ages even after she was admitted. She also had schizophrenia- I was there severe anorexia- so we bonded over how hard it was to be young people with mental illnesses… I so hope she is ok now somewhere… because of how severe my illness was I was in a hospital 2hrs away from my regional home so I couldn’t keep in touch…

The patient doesn't need to be a child, I went through one a few days ago and I'm 57. I had a brain aneurism and gamma knife and have had six prolonged seizures in the last year and a half. I'm wondering if one of them will be the end of me.

My son had a 90 min episode where the hospital thought it was a behavioural problem which delayed the treatment until I saw him via FaceTime because of my sister and the right side of his face was drooped down and I went off saying that a behavioural problem does not cause facial droop and what were they doing, they didn’t even get an eeg on him to find out. After the midazolam his face returned to normal. I’ll also note he doesn’t have a history of epilepsy he has a cardiac arrhythmia called Wolff Parkinson White syndrome and one of the arrhythmias it can’t facilitate is Afib which presents wide which he has had episodes before that we were unsure what they were and causes stroke. It’s taken nearly a year of testing so we can get a prevention plan going and I still don’t have any answers lucky it’s never happened again.
