That thing Brittany said about friends who will blatantly text and drive GIRLLLL DON'T GET ME STARTED IT'S SO TERRIFYING 😭
I've got a "friend" I don't hang out with anymore, but for a while I was at the point where I'd always offer to drive because I could NOT stand to risk being the passenger in their car!! What's worse is I LITERALLY OFFER to handle their phone FOR them so they can keep their eyes on the road, but they say "nah it's okay!" and THEN CHECK IT ANYWAYS!!! The amount of times they'd go from 60 to 90 back to 60, toeing the line, FAST STOPS instead of gradual ones all because their PHONE was more important than the road??????? Oh my GOD it was awful. One time I was so scared they were going to rear-end someone at a stop light (they were on their phone again) that I accidentally blurted out "stop stOP" and I NEVERRR freak out like that (usually I'm silent if anything goes wrong lol). They didn't hit the car but they were like "oh sorry". WTF DO U MEAN "OH SORRY"??? GET OFF YOUR PHONE 😭
I'm at the point in life now that I'll just take the driver's phone form their hands if they're not stopped. Maybe their life isn't important to them, but MY life is important TO ME and I WILL ensure that I get home safely.
    STOP TEXTING AND DRIVING MFS!

i took last week off of social media (because im doing The Artist's Way workbook) and it was the best thing i couldve done for myself. getting rid of that compulsion to open instagram or tiktok was so hard, but i got rid of it!! im 25 and i was so tired of trying to fill silence in my day with tiktok or youtube. the break gave me a sense of control that ive never felt before, and the self discipline i developed over just one week was something i can realistically carry with me forever. i know its hard but what if its actually so much easier than we think ? finally feeling present for myself and other people has been the most rewarding part.

on the cell phone etiquette convo, i think the reason why we can be apprehensive to calling people/friends out on the stuff they do, malevolent or not, is cause we lowkey know that if we do, its a 50/50 shot we stay friends with the person. to me, the response to the call out or convo thats had is so important. if the instinct is to get annoyed with me for even saying anything or have any type of overly self defensive/aggressive response is a major red flag. people dont like getting called out on their shit and in this age, they will drop you like a bad habit before actually reevaluating their own.

I try to practice not getting on my phone even when it’s socially acceptable in public, like sitting in a waiting room or standing in line. I just sit there and look around, look at people, name all the different sounds I can hear. It’s immersion in daily life and it actually helps me be appreciative and loving toward my surroundings rather than cultivating escapism. Then in situations with family and friends, I don’t even have the urge to check my phone. It helps to not have many (or any) social media apps.
Your part on sisterhood hit me because I struggle to maintain relationships with women for some reason. I’ve had lapses in trust with women I think, but I’m trying to get over that. I feel like we would be great friends, B, I appreciate your connectivity to life’s little things ❤️

Bachelor in Museum Studies here! The tiny portraits Brittany talks about are called cameos. They were made for all income levels with the less expensive ones being made of only one layer of carving (cheaper ones would be clay while more expensive ones might be a variety of materials layered on top of one another). The more expensive/high-class options generally had anywhere from 2-4 layers of carving which could be alabaster stone, mother of pearl, etc. those multilayered ones where often carved so that the viewer could see each material layer as a part of an entire image if that makes sense. Very cool little pieces and they can be remarkably complex images!

I can’t stress enough how much I thoroughly admire your segment on the phone issue with our generations. It’s something that is arguably the most overlooked thing because it’s become so normal to allow these little boxes to take so much of our attention away from the beautiful things in life (I am 110% guilty of it too). And as you moved into talking about the issue with people texting and driving-yeah, I feel you there. There are just so many people who obviously do not understand or try to understand the value and preciousness of life, and how quickly something bad could happen.
Sorry to be so depressing on a Friday evening, but I’m so thankful I was raised to pay attention to these things. I wish more people would, because man, it seems like the more time goes on, the less people understand how to interact with each other and get off of their phones. It’s one reason I made myself delete TikTok. I got so addicted to where I couldn’t go to the restroom at home or get ready for bed without getting on and scrolling. Just wanted to emphasize how much I agreed with your segment on this!

what an amazing synopsis of silver flames. it actually ended up being my favorite book of the series and i resonated so much with nesta.
i think people that don’t like nesta is because they know a nesta and do not understand or just can’t understand how your mind turns on you and makes you feel that you need to protect yourself from everything. and by doing that and having so many walls up you are an impenetrable force but you push everyone around you away and soon enough you find out that THAT is the easy way out. being vulnerable and facing those emotions head on is the hard part and i just am so absolutely obsessed with nestas story and she also ended up being my favorite character

I sobbed at the intimate scene between Feyre and Nesta because I lost my older sister a few years ago and it made me want to hug her so bad-I feel so happy that you got to reach out to your sister in that moment and felt a similar way that I did when reading. What a fucking good ass book and I WISH it was as well received as A Court of Mist and Fury because I think it’s 10 times better SUE ME!!! Sometimes even historical figures or past people of the house etc. I’m not sure which were the most common or prevalent in society at that time but sometimes you can find a really beautiful piece at estate sale jewelry stores. Sherlock Holmes is based on an autistic doctor, and as an autistic person myself, I heavily empathize with the character. My main special interest is behavioral analysis (how a mind and environment interact with human body language and behavior), but I am also fond of food science, rock hounding, makeup/clothing, natural medicine/botany, and generally design (particularly the psychology behind buildings, products, and interiors throughout history).
I have been compared to Google and told that I am not human. Autistic traits are admirable and charming in our society but when they are labeled "autistic," then people see them as negative. Needless to say, I feel comforted to hear someone say that they want to be like Sherlock.
You said that Sherlock is a character but I have to sincerely admit that many times I have a similar level of pattern recognition (with only human behavior).
Once I develop a baseline for a person's behavior, I can't be fooled. It takes me about 2 weeks to establish a baseline and I don't do it intentionally. My personal life suffers because of this, most of the time I learn things I wish I did not know. I also constantly have dreams that later on come true, or reveal truths to me. I believe the dreams are caused by patterns I've observed and shoved down into my psyche over time, nothing more. I have a full honesty policy with my fiance because it saves time and fosters respect.
The skill serves me well at work where I was an SPMI residential program manager who worked on the floor and housed folks (low barrier, risky, honest work). And it will serve me well as a CNA and eventually nurse.
People with similar personalities exist but they never talk about it because wow does that make everyone uncomfortable and hate you. I've lived my whole life like this and only my fiance knows. Writing this post makes me feel like a stupid redditor dweeb.
