#Pontiac #GTO #GOAT Авто/Мото
I've decided to sell it, so we can spend more $$ on the 57 Plymouth. Selling it for $18K OBO (less than I payed for it) and it comes with the correct size BF Goodrich tires, and a new set of Bilstein shocks). Email autoauctionrebuilds@gmail.com if interested.
Damn.... was about to give ya some key pointers to get her off the line quicker and more of a response.
@@chrislangston2673 I'm still listening :)
I think you’re making a big mistake but it’s your channel good luck
I think it's great to get some of your money back randy it was fun watching these videos of you an the GTO great job again man oh if had the money I would take it off your hands
That’s okay Randy I’d like to see you put more money into the Plymouth! She’s gorgeous plus like you said you’ve always wanted one since you where a kid!
If that car had a Quadrajet that was well sorted (and I mean you knew how to properly tune the secondary air doors, power piston spring, and choke pull-off), you would never have any problems with its carburetor.
Just keep it as is and fix what needs fixing and remove all the fake GTO badges. An excellent LeMans.
The emblems back them were attached with legs in the chrome emblems going through holes in the bodywork, and the emblems were held on by speed nuts or captive fasteners. They didn't use adhesive and the emblems don't all have the same 'pattern' for legs and even some eblems go in different places. For example, some were on the rear quarter, and some were on the fender.
I was joking in the first video I saw of it and said he should get a tag with FAKE GOAT on it.
Thanks for helping me out. I was trying to figure out the “fake” part. Duh on me!
The Pontiac 350 is a good motor. As long as it is converted to electronic ign from points about the only other thing to worry about is the timing chain. Which is why on the old Pontiacs I switch the factory nylon ones to a steel double roller. That one seems to be running really well and no smoke, knocks or ticks. I would take it anywhere.
Yes she makes it to AAR! I hope everything’s all right with your family Randy.
She will make it. I think you should put the Lemans badges back on it, a better steering wheel or the original and maybe the dash with a tach, but just my thoughts. Nice car though I like it.
Don't even know if there was a cluster with a tach. Remember these had the hood-mounted tachometer...
@@wilsixone ~I don't remember on the '68, but you could get the dash tach out of the '70 model. That also had a 140mph speedo, which would be pretty nifty.
Randy is trying to cool the whole world down. Thats great of you. Running the air conditioning in a convertible. I truly appreciate your effort and i hope it works.
Super Turbine 300 two speed used in various Buick, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac models from 1964-1969. The internal operation of the ST300 automatic was similar to the 1962-1971 Powerglide and almost indistinguishable. Few parts were interchangeable.
That's a cruiser for the weekends! That paint is awesome!
That's the 2 speed GM automatic often called Super Turbine 300. It has the vacuum modulator on the opposite side from a Powerglide transmission. There were some Canadian made Pontiacs with special heavy duty Powerglide transmissions. The insides were similar to the 427 Corvette Powerglide, but the transmission cases had bolt patterns for both Pontiac and Chevy engines.
Get rid of the gto badges since you obviously know it’s not a gto and that would be a great start to this car
68 can have a glide which yours has.. Its a nice clean Tempest convertible.. At best a Lemans base version. You need a full suspension rebuild with tie rod ends and a new steering box. Love the over-spray on the frame and engine. The springs are also all sagged out.
amazing cars! good job on all of the success randy!
That's a perfect cruiser as is. Good luck with the sale. I cannot imagine it lasting long.
This is a great deal it is a convertible the paint looks great. Randy you still made a good choice. 😀👍🇨🇦
Your gear selector indicator will tell you. D & L is a powerglide. D 2 1 is a THM
Unless a 2 speed was put in without changing the shifter. If it's a Pontiac 2 speed I believe it would be an M35.
Looks like its a 2-speed going by the gear leaver. Looks like it has D & S. No 2.
A powerglide was NOT available in a GTO! A GTO ONLY came with a TH400, or a manual in either 3 or 4 speed.
@@jasontengan1233 I know it IS a Tempest, LeMans which did come with a power glide as STANDARD Automatic. A GTO was ONLY offered with a TH400 Auto.
From what I can see it looks like the same powerglide I had in my 67 Le Mans and my 69 GTO i been working on has a TH400
You did good with this one, looks and runs great! 👍👍👍
Cars of this era had a valve in the heater hoses that shut off the flow to the heater core when you changed the temperature from hot to cold. The valve may be stuck open or the cable (some cars had a vacuum controlled valve) to the valve may be stuck or broken. This was the first auto repair I made, fixing the AC in my dads Dodge when I was 14 years old.
Hello Randy, you must get excellent smiles to the gallon when driving the Pontiac.
Had a 70 lemans and it was a 350 2 barrel and rated at 255hp
I had one with a 4speed, it wasn't fast but fun to drive.
Steering box probably has some adjustment in it. There is a set screw/jam nut. Loosen the jam nut, and tighten the screw a little. Bet it fixes the play.
The only V8 offered in the 68 LeMans is the Pontiac 350. The shifter will tell you what transmission you have. A 2 speed Powerglide will have PRNDL. The 3 speed will have PRND2L or 1 instead of the L. My 67 LeMans had the 2 speed. The GTO came standard with a 400 mated to a 3 speed automatic with a dual gate shifter made by Hurst.
Thank you for the awesome content!
Alright santa good to see you guys having fun in the sun
Same train of thought with the '57 as what you said towards the end of this one. "So original, a cruiser"
The transmission is a Super Turbine 300, a 2-speed automatic. It's not a Powerslide. Buick and Olds used them as well & Olds called it a Jetaway.
The Super Turbine 300 has the vacuum modulator on the opposite side from that of the Powerglide. Easy way to tell. Some Canadian Pontiacs did get heavy duty Powerglide transmission, with guts similar to the 427 Corvette Powerglide, but the Canadian Pontiac Powerglide has bolt patterns for both Pontiac and Chevy engines.
Look at it as a GTO tribute car. You could always rebadge it as a LeMans for resale. It's still a nice cruiser. You did good on the price. We had a '69 GTO with 14x6 Rally II wheels. Back then 14" looked fine with those unique looking Pontiac wheel arches. Fun fact: you could actually get a GTO with a chrome front bumper. It still had darker grill with white "GTO" lettering. The tail lights were unique for GTO too. GTO hoods did have nostrils but most were non functioning unless you got Ram Air. It sounds like your secondaries are working fine when you step on it. Great video, thanks.
I’m really enjoying watch this keep go man 👍🙌
GTOs are my dream. nice for you to be living it. keep it up ✌🏻
I cant remember the year it started but 68 - 72 gto's had a vin prefix of 242. Also the gto never came with a 350 engine. They were 389- 455 ci. Then on Pontiacs the distributor sit backwards compared to other gm cars.. The reason is the vacuum advance hits the intake and limits adjustment
This car most definitely has a 2.90 or 3.07 gear. No low end power but definitely great on the freeway. Cool car.
I don't care what these people say you sure buy your happiness randy💯💯
Great looking car! If it were me I would go with a black top to match the interior I think that would look tougher and less like a cutlass.
Awesome video Randy 👍
Randy, as a LeMans, 14-inch tires would have been standard, and with the optional Rallys II Wheels, F70 X 14 would have been the likely OEM tire size or possibly G70 X 14.
G78-14 is Factory tire/wheel size, for Lemans or GTO.
Yeah this is one of those cars kinda perfect.. a real real nice driver/ crusier
Though a 4speed manual swap would really be awfully freaking neat lol
The pontiac 2 speeds were super turbine 300s not powerglides.
300 Turbine
@@chrismorales9440 The Super Turbine 300 has the vacuum modulator on the opposite side from the Powerglide. Some Canadian Pontiacs did get special heavy duty Powerglide transmissions with guts similar to 427 Corvette Powerglides and the Canadian Powerglide has bolt patterns for both Pontiac and Chevy engines.
I dont think a late 60s convertible with a/c is bare bones. It could be a nice driver with some repairs and/ or upgrades
@@jimjungle1397 but canadian pontiacs are acadians though and not a gto and the acadian was just a chevelle with pontiac badges. had the chevy engines and so forth.
@@jeffreyrigged There is a Canadian Powerglide that had a dual bolt pattern for the GM engines and the heavy duty internals that were used in the 427 Corvette. Those weren't just made for Chevy engines. From the heavy duty gears and parts inside and the multi-engine bolt pattern, they likely went behind some big engines. I think they were used in Canadian Pontiacs and not Buicks made in Canada. I've seen Chevy 12 bolt rear ends in Buick Skylarks made in Canada, but with 6 cylinder or Buick engines in those with 3 speed automatics.
She’ll make it no doubt! Just a few things wrong replace the shocks fix the gas gauge and maybe the carb! She’s beautiful!
It's not uncommon for GM cars from that era to have 14" rims on them. My 67 Catalina came factory with 14" rims.
GTO and Grand Prix were the only two models with 15 inch wheels from 59 through 68. Weird.
@@michaeltutty1540 my 69 GTO was ordered new by my parents. Came from the factory with 14 inch Ralley II wheels. Although many have been changed out, there were no 15 inch on 68 and 69 GTOs.
@@michaeltutty1540 The factory size was G70x14 for the GTO.
15 inch wheels where only optioned for disc brakes up front and only 67 up. either 70 or 71 idr exactly is when the disc brakes became standard on the a body gm cars.
You're right about that, I had a 68 Caprice, and a couple of Furys they all came with 14s.
with the gears i think it has you can drive back an forth to aar hq and get 18 mpg i had a 66 tempest wagon 326 thats what i got with 2.73s
I spent over $20K rebuilding my 1963 GMC after a year on the market I just sold it for $6K. I now have $6K will offer.
You do it for the love of the ole cars and of course its a hobby. Very few do it for the money 💰 as demonstrated by your profit ( or lack of ) margin.
Love it. Keep it original. Great buy on your part.
They made a 14x5, 14x6, 14x7, and a 15x7 rim size for this body style.
TP link is amazing it's so fast for being satellite and for 40 Eures a month in rural Ireland where normal internet is crap it's a massive difference
I had a 67 Impala super sport that had a 327 in it with a two speed powerglide transmission but mine had an overdrive which is basically a third gear and I had a little bit lower gear on my first but something you could do is put a lower gear in your rear end to give you that take off
You can put a shift kit in the slip and slide two speed power glide , you’ll see a difference
Everything I find says it should have 14” wheels and F70-14 tires.
You are correct! Check Coker Tire. It is listed as a V8 Tempest. When the LeMans first came out, it was the Tempest LeMans. They are the same body with different trim. I had a 67 and a 71 LeMans and my cousin had a 68 and a 69 GTO. This car has a Pontiac 350. The only V8 offered in a LeMans.
Gorgeous car buddy, my gracious she’s gorgeous.
Casually here to see another great video
She's still a beautiful car🔥
I see that you're selling it, but that transmission is a Super Turbine, also known as ST300, 300THM or Jetaway.
Used in 1964-69 Buick, Olds and Pontiac. Definitely a two speed and seeing the acceleration, probably 2.56 gear in the back.
do a dif fluid change requires removing the cover count teeth on the ring gear an divide by # on pinion= final drive ratio ,my money is on 3.08
I believe gas tank holds 21.4 gallons but I’m not sure . Thanks for a great video content on the fake GTO . Have a good week!
I am telling you the tempest had 14 inch rims in 68. My cousins car was a Tempest and not a Lemans. I remembered that after you said it was a Tempest.
Beautiful car. My opinion...leave it original and enjoy it. It's hard to find something that age all original. Wish I could find one. Maybe someday. Good find 💯😎
Those steering boxes do have an adjustment on them you loosen the lock nut and turn the screw down and back it off a bit but a lot of them have already been screwed all the way in you might want to check it it's right on the steering box
I agree ,just due the tires and suspension issues and injoy it,great video
Everytime i come Here Viewing your clips Makes Me Go Start My Rides and Hit the Auction And On line Hustle lol
Oh a HUGE WARNING, make sure you run a lead additive or you WILL sink the valves into the heads. This is of course if you don't have the hardened Exhaust valve seats installed on the heads. It will run fine for about 6 months to a year then you'll start to notice excessive noise coming from the valve train as they sink into the heads. You can fix it by changing the valve seats out but if you don't the Exhaust valves will sink. I know I did it to my 69 GTO and my 1974 Trans Am. Also if you run the lower octane you'll need to adjust the Ignition Timing or you'll get pinging in the valves due to per-detonation. This will result in broken stock valve rings, broken piston ring lands and will chamfer your cylinder walls. Been there and done that on my 74 Trans Am. You can fix that by boring out the cylinders and sleeving them. To find out if your valves have started to sink take it to a shop and have them check the valves stem height and run a compression check. Have fun with your Cool Le mans or Tempest.
The Tire should be G70 Rally II 14X6 wheels not 15" in wheels. If you put 15" wheels on, it will rub the front fenders and tear them and the fenders up. I recommend the 15" wheels with smaller diameter tires to match the stock tire height for one reason only. It will corner better and not "Push" as much. That is very important in a heavy car. I almost put mine over a cliff in California because the tires were; to high on the front, the weight of the car and, Well I was getting a little aggressive in the mountains for a heavy 60's car. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya
Nice tempest
In 67 The tempest looked totally different and had a 326 option w/ a Pontiac powerglide.
Man you should've got a picture of the car on the bridge front view with the bridge behind it that would've looked so cool
It looks like when you were shaking the tire left to right I can see the outer tie rod end looks like it's got a lot of play might need to be replaced
That's a really nice GT-Faux (LeMans). Keep it for a cruiser (but I personally would remove all the GTO badges and put some original LeMans badging back on it).
You can build it into the car you want to it's still an awesome car 👍 or the way it is is fine
Some well known car guy once said, “It’s only original once.” Why mess with it.
I still think it worth more than $20k even though it’s a GTO clone.
I concur. However, it isn't really a GTO clone. It's a LeMans with GTO badges, the builder didn't even try to make the car look like a real GTO.
Love it bro
Beautiful car man!!!!!
Pretty sure these cars came from the factory with 14" wheels. IMO taking those rally wheels off would be a mistake.
Getting the clock to work adds ANOTHER 3g's to the selling price.
You made a good observation that you cannot hear the secondaries open up, most all 350s were 2V carbs. They did have an HO version in some with 4V. My 69 Firebird 350 had 2v. Pontiac loved 2v carbs they put them on 400s too for low-cost full-size cars with single exhaust. Up-scale versions got the 4v.
What A Beautiful Old Lemans Convertible Randy..
It may not be a GTO but it's a nice looking Pontiac. I don't think you got hurt at all.
I may have missed it but what happened to the Mercedes w123?
Looks like the Idler and pitman arm are original and needs replacement. IMHO!

The power glides had that whine or whirr sound when in park. I'm wondering if that isn't a 350 starting out in 2nd gear for some reason?
Yeah sounds like it has a bad solenoid that isn't kicking down to first when coming to a stop.
We are lucky when u see it before the real upload
Use Ethernet over power, easy setups, if the shop is hooked up to the power with the house, if not then look into Ubiquiti, they have point to point ap's, saves running a wire. Love that old Pontiac, well worth the price to me. Thanks for all the videos sir.
As a owner of a real 69 GTO convertible since 1983 and looking at what you bought at first, I felt bad for you being that you are a novice to the Pontiac community but after seeing your rear Oklahoma teabagger plate I’m happy to see that you got what you deserved!
Yes I sure did. I sold it for a $6k profit. Now come here so I can teabag you. Damn libtard.
What freon did you put in it
On a cold start, pump the gas pedal twice to close the choke, turn key. After engine starts, pump the gas pedal once to activate the choke pull off.
Great video
Randy's gettin some Pontiaction!
My first car was a 1968 GTO with a 400 CID automatic, I noticed the chrome bumper, dead giveaway, still a nice old car.
I've been yerning a project car as well. Mine is more specific. 1970 Ford Galaxie 500 2dr sport roof, 351W, FMX(ish, known by a prior ref name). Paint condition doesn't need to be even near good, but as rust free as possible. Wish I could find one for $2,000 of less.
My old mechanic was selling an original 70 Galaxie 2dr with fastback rear window, 351W. It was white with red interior and had decals/couple badges on and in car that said Mayfly. He never figured out where the Mayfly name came from. It was probably a random dealer that badged the car. His had minor body rust on rear quarters. Think he wanted $5k. Cars gone now but was in Ma
Randy, I like the car weather its a GTO or a tempest. its really nice!!
Great car!! Love the video!!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
you can tighten up the steering by adjusting the worm gear in the power steering box
I personally think the long body style GTO is the best model in plum purple
I don’t know if it’s the camera work, but I’m not postitive that’s an original convertible?? I keep looking for the boxed frame but couldn’t get a clear shot of it.
See if the vin has a ‘67’ in it.
WHAT IS YOUR A/C PRESSURES
THAT IS A X2 ST-300 2 SPEED AUTO USED ON BUICK,OLDS PONTIAC
That 350 and the chrome bumper should have been a big red flag as to the G.T.O. heritage. Just loose the emblems and sell it as the convertible Lemans it is.18 thousand is at the limit of the price point
GTO's could be ordered with the chrome bumper in 1968 instead of the duro bumper.
@@joca6282 thats common knowledge... but that 350. And the vin in the window should have 2-Pontiac, 42-GTO, 67-convertable. Thats "24267ect.... the option code for the chrome bumper was 674. Also if you ordered a special paint color you'd get the chrome bumper... the additives to the paint were pre mixed (I believe you could ask for the Enduro bumper with a special color, but not sure.
@@robinluck2922 I know myself that's not a GTO. The tail lights are from a LeMans. The interior is not right in that car either. The GTO and Sport LeMans GT had the same exact interior. Those seats are from a Skylark convertible from the looks of the pleating. The automatic floor shifter is correct for the 2 speed. automatic.
@@joca6282 you're right! To bad you or someone with your knowledge wasn't with this guy when he was checking this car out. At the very least you could have saved him a few thousand dollars just pointing out the discrepancies.
@@robinluck2922 I would have been all over that. I had a rare 68 LeMans sport GT in the 70's till 1980 when I sold it like a dumb ass. It was the first GT type. It was classified as the GT 36 in 68 and 69. In 1970 it was labeled as the GT 37. The coupes were all automatics with the Hurst dual gate and the 2 door sedans had 4 speed manual transmissions. Mine was one of 57 coupes made with hide away headlights. All others were fixed headlights. Ram air hood and tach optional also on coupes as I had. I put a 389 SD crate factory warranty replacement motor. It had 500 ponies just from the block output. I had tri power and it rated about 580 plus. I did a qtr mile in 10:70 with it in 1976. It had a 3:90 limited slip posi rear end. The front wheels would leave the ground on a launch. It was a great car. I'll never find another one. I'll settle for a GTO when I start shopping for one next year. I know where there's another 389 SD for it. Lol. Tri power and all. It's in a guys basement and the crank still turns over with a breaker bar. 389's kill 400's on the strip. I've taken down every 421 SD's with mine back then. The car was built in June of 1968 near the end of production that year.
The low gear is 1.76.1and drive is 1.1, and whatever the rear gear is equals the final drive ratio ( example: a car with a 3.23 rear end , 3rd gear is essentially 3.23, as most th350,400 use a 1.1 3rd)
Would be sad to see her go. But again more content for us!
They use to supe up those 2 speed power glides and race em back in the day. I owned one in my 66 buick skylark. I never had a problem getting freeway speeds with a 340ci
I'm at 2:38 on the video and I am replying to your request. Yes, I think the car will make it (made it now) based on how easily it started, how smoothly it idled.
